We experienced battery failure on 2 of the cameras in 2 different attempts (1 each time) and weren't happy with the footage we produced. We are going to set them up again this fall and will be running the Tactacam Solar battery pack instead of the SK's solar panel and lithium battery pack. (For our applications the SK panel wouldn't keep up with full video and we had issues with the included lithium batteries, this issue seems to be resolved now.)
@@foxoptic5887 It's been 2 years... means that fall has already come and gone... where is the update? Did the cameras fail again or did the blocks not produce?
I have done it both ways and just pressing the blocks works fine in cold temperatures. (Essentially the material stays "frozen" together. ) Especially in warmer temperatures, unless they are heated thoroughly, they fall apart after a few days, this really doesn't negatively effect their usefulness, actually, most animals prefer the loose version, however they certainly don't last nearly as long as the blocks which maintain their shape. (Animals have to work at breaking bites off)
Keep in mind, I have not tried a heavy form and hydraulic press. That might actually work. I have always just pressed them using the box as a form with a piece of plywood and some 50lb weights on them overnight.
How else would you determine which they prefer if you don't offer them both in the exact same setting? If I separate them it could be a difference in location. The long term goal here is to move the "offerings " from location to location also to "prove" not only which the prefer between factory and homemade but also which factory block/blocks they prefer. This would have been done by now, but I had battery failure in two cameras in 2 different sets and the footage was not complete to fairly show the comparison. We are going to set them up and run it again, however we were waiting for the time of year to get right again and we might incorporate a few additional camera components to eliminate the opportunity for failure and make this a bit better.
Why this cat never shows the actual trail cam footage w/ the same vid he puts the blocks out in. I can only imagine that the homemade blocks he'd like to sell must've missed the mark when it comes to big box store brand blocks. Thats unfortunate:/
When should I check back for the update? Interested to see how they liked them.
Do you have the updated footage ?
Got any results 9 months later?

Nope.. must've jumped all the deer off to the neighbors property lol

@@foxoptic5887 Also, didn't you said that you sell those cameras... and they both failed 2 of 2... horrible marketing promo there
I know this is the wrong video but do you need to cook the blocks? If i made a form out of wood and used a press could i skip the cooking process?

@@foxoptic5887 Thanks for the reply. If i try a hydraulic press i will let you know how it works.
Can't wait to see the deer on the reveal!
How soon will Part 3 be out?
Where is the update video?
Where’s the follow up to this?
We had some issues with 2 of the sets and are waiting until early fall to reset them.
No update? What a waste of a video lol
Exactly. My guess is, they didn’t get the results they were expecting.
Why did you put the store bought with the homemade it don't make no sense I thought you were trying to see if they were hitting homemade blocks?

@@foxoptic5887 so can you tell me which blocks were preferred by the deer? How long did you wait to go check the blocks?
Jmo.. but seem to me like the homemade must've been embarrassed next to the commercial store blocks why they didn't show the 1st trail cam pic:/

Subbed to see the results
