It would've been nice to see the actual new pump install, especially the gasket and an oil-filled pump. Any gasket sealer used? Maybe you can help my top bolt is a long stud like the lower and my new pump is a m35a and takes the short bolt will this pump still work for me ?? I'm new
You can also undo the top oil filter hose and back pump the oil until it comes out of the oil gauge tube. Once then, reconnect the oil guage tube.

And yes the 53A is only for the chain driven cam as it spins with the crank, not opposite like the gear drive.

You should have a long stud. Long bolt, and a short bolt all three are needed.
Sounds like someone added a extra stud to make the install easier. Either way will work
