- The manhunt is on for the suspect in a disturbing sexual assault that happened in the Bronx last week, as authorities search for the man they say approached a woman on the street, wrapped something around her neck, knocked her unconscious and raped her.

Because the justice system is ridiculous. It's overburdened and it doesn't get enough funding and the people that are in charge that we somehow vote into office don't give a flying eff about public safety behind their rose colored glasses.
Because instead of real reform, Band-Aids like bail reform are enacted. Yes the justice system is flawed and definitely favors rich people. If you're rich, you have a much better chance of getting out of charges and not spending much time in prison. And that's not okay. But the answer is not bail reform where there has to be a major dangerous felony or 10 to keep somebody behind bars until their guilt or innocents can be determined.
Because the justice system in this country doesn't focus on any kind of rehabilitation or reinvestment in criminals. There are many places around the world where they have started to close jails in prisons because there's no criminals to fill them because their anti-recidivism programs actually work.
Turns out when you give somebody something to give them some worth, like a job and expectations and some dignity, people actually do start to heal and become better people. Not all by any means, but most.
Because our mental health went to hell in the '80s when Reagan defunded all of the state mental institutions. Because a lot of people on the streets probably shouldn't be in prison but instead in mental institutions where they can receive the social services they desperately need.
As a modern society, we should be able to provide the social services and resources needed for the more vulnerable among us, more specifically children, the elderly, and the vulnerable adults for whatever reason they're vulnerable.
But our system is based on punishment with absolutely no focus on The difficulty that many people have reentering society and so recidivism is a huge issue. Recidivism meaning reoffending.
I mean we are a modern society with huge technological advances and understandings in the human psyche and trauma. I just can't believe we still have a for-profit prison system.
Don't even get me started on the for-profit foster care system for which product is foster care services and the demand is foster children in need of services. The more foster children there are, the more money corporations who provide foster care services make. Therefore, there is a direct positive correlation between The amount of money to be made and the amount of foster children to feed the system. Not surprisingly, many of these for-profit systems flourish in states that outlaw abortion.
