I think the 10-15% can probably be accounted for with the fact the rear quarter is a bolt on the vent window gone vent and the duck bill spoiler. I think it will go over well for street hunters.
Obviously Fords got a case against TJ Hunts company, otherwise SEMA would allow them to showcase it. Let's say SEMA allowed Hunt to showcase the kit. Ford and Hunt go to court, Ford wins. I'm sure Ford will sue SEMA afterward. SEMA is playing safe.
I work in collision repair. That aftermarket 15% difference to be considered non oem, and legal to sell, will not be noticeable to someone not trained in what to look for. The differences are thing like the sizing or locations of mounting pints for grills and stuff. Its as could be as simbke as making the plastic in the bumper .8mm thicker than oem.
That and the fact that one has molded quarters and one has rivoted ones would be a dead giveaway to any car people. If i had to bet, mustangs are cheap, this body kit isnt a bad price. Everyone knows the stereotypes of mustang owners, ford probably doent want that image associated with this paticular mustang🤷🏿♂️
I don't see an issue with giving people the option of GTD-ifying their non GTD Mustang. It only incentivizes people to go out and buy a Mustang, giving Ford a sale. More non-GTD's are going to be sold obviously, so why not allow it to ultimately get the sale?
Someone probably already said this, but FRP is Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Similar to fiberglass. It's a pretty good and strong material that's a little cheaper than carbon fiber.
If the changes are considered by the hood, left fender, right fender, front bumper, rear bumper, wheels, truck, right quarter panels and left quarter panels, that’s 8/10 things maybe I missed one or 2 but he’d only have too change 2 things to be over a 15% change in design
Reminds me of the “Eleanor” mustang copyright lawsuit with Gone in 60 seconds original movie producer Haliki.. If you built an Eleanor replica and she found out, she could’ve seized your car. Happened to “Build is for B” on UA-cam. For the movie, she took the GT500 body kit made like 2 slight modifications and renamed the car character “Eleanor” . Then wanted to sue ANYONE who replicated the car. Shelby then had to remind her in a lawsuit that she basically stole the GT500 design trying to claim she owns copyright for “Eleanor” but doesn’t have enough differences in the kit in order to claim it as originally her design to legally claim copyright infringement .
Sonny Crockett's Miami Vice Ferrari GTB Daytona replica survived two years on the TV series. Maybe TJ Hunt's Mustang StreetHunter kit should wait a decade or so before launch.
as a customer wanting a gtd, but cheaper, you can buy the whole kit, and not mount all of it. ie the duckbill and the glass vent thing. mount a custom spoiler and boom, i have a car for 70% off
Also, probably voids warranties, could be liability issue, say you put this kit on and it either makes stated times not possible or worse causes a malfunction at high speeds but on the off chance you can't prove it wasn't Ford's fault it could be bad.
Dude straight up copied and pasted that mf with no wing and just added a few carbon parts😭😂. It’s like copying your homies paper but getting a few wrong on purpose
Fair game on their part BUT they are selling a 300k mustang.. If that thing doesn't get a 6:40 on the nurburgring it's complete garbage. If they sue and bring all this interest to the car and it ends up not performing, what are they really protecting?
*He just made it affordable. Ford won't win the lawsuit anyways because they don't own the right to race parts. TJ can easily claim the looks as functional aerodynamics and win the case.*
First, I would like to say I'm a fan of TJ and his work. People are saying it is different enough especially with the rear differences; however, if you go by the 10% to 15% rule you also have to remember each piece alone would have to apply to that rule because you can buy the pieces individually without purchasing the entire kit as a whole....just a thought.
If you want your Foxbody Mustang to look like a 1993 Cobra, you can go on so many aftermarket sites and buy the body kit and wing. Same with the SN-95 Cobra and so on. Makes no freaking sense to me.
The real question is whether or not the change has to be for the entire kit or for each panel/part. Does the front bumper need 10%-15% difference on its own? That's what I'd imagine ford is going after
Yeah that price jump from the Darkhorse to the next trim up is crazy. I like the dual exhaust tips better then those big usb-c exhausts tips on the GTD.
You legitimately live under a rock. If you consider yourself even remotely apart of the car scene you’d know who TJ is 😂😂 he’s one of not the most famous car influencers
Maybe it is just the price tag of the GTD that made this catch Ford's eyes. Tons of offroad fiberglass body companies sell and market literal Ford F150 to Ford F150 Raptor conversions and I have never seen anything publicly about this and Ford is pretty present in the offroad motorsports world so I am sure they are aware.
Yes they do look very similar, but the difference is one is an aftermarket body kit to fit any new S650 mustang and the other is a factory race car. Just adding the looks doesnt make it the same car. Thats like comparing a Porche basic GT3 with a GT Cup car.
The best question is , why was streethunter not confident enough to create their own design instead of starting with the GTD design and making changes ? Yes, it looks great , but it was the easy way , stealing is always the easiest way to make money.
None have been sold so they can't be sued for trademark infringement... at this point a court order to cease and desist the production is what will happen
Other than the fenders nothing really is 100% match 1:1 I'm sure if Drew showed a side by side those are different too. Ford can't patent vents and block off plates ffs. Hood looks like every other hood I put on in nfsug and mc3.
@@logan9334 I did a side by side on my computer and they are very close, obviously there are differences but alot of the body lines and vents arent just in the same location but the same shape. On TJs, The spoiler, the upper vent in the rear window areas, the vent below that and the front block off plates and double lip at the bottom are different. So aside from the rivets everything else seems to be the same or pretty close.
this is a good perspective of WHY Ford is making a stink about this. i think he'll be okay legally if he doesnt continue to kit, make some changes, and he'll sell plenty of kits. Fords not wrong, but a business man like TJ should have saw this ahead of time as any good business person knows to keep your ducks in a row throughout your investment that allows changes until it becomes a legal issue. I like TJ's rear better tbo, but have ALWAYS loved molded wide bodies and am not a big fan of these riveted kits
i think its more the fact its tj hunt, a well known automotive youtuber with alot audience's. all his cars did well in sema and broke the automotive world to a certain degree. they dont want him to take any shine away from the gtd at sema, they dont want any comparisons between his kit and gtd. ford wabt thier debuting of the gtd at sema to be their own. they also dont want ppl to have the idea... wait.. i can build a poor man gtd with power and looks for a fraction. obviously most of us have dream to owning a certain specail car thats out of reach but we have rep body kits since the dawn of age. like; - nissan skyline conversion to gtr kit - bmw m3 kits - lancer evo kit - subaru sti kit thier a whole bunch of others one but u get my point, their ppl who want the look but cant afford the car it self. if it was any other company like the typical china brand, they wouldnt give a dam.. its just tj hunt have a big name and reputation which alot young ppl look up too, his body kit will sell. if tj was smart and out right steal the design, shouldve patented the design, then talk to ford about a partner ship. be the 1st car company to have a wide body kit add on when you build your car. most company have thier oem plus sport kits, Mercedes amg, bmw m sports , lexus f sports and so on. who know, if it does well, other car company might even fallow suit. imagine, bmw to allow you to build a dtm bmw , or a gt body kit to your new bmw build . wont be cheap but thatll be pretty sick.
Do yall know that new mustang SUV I have an idea they should have named it "Ford Welsh" welsh as in the horse Welsh Cob because those horses are elegant horses on top of that they should have made a new logo with a horse with hair going down and then it's head tilted looking forward with its one leg straight down and the other up on both legs on the logo mirroring when horses piaffe where they basically teach horses to tip toe in an elegant manner but yeah and that would have made for a nice logo and name mirroring the SUV of high technology and elegance of it. Please spread my idea. Maybe Ford will change it if the idea really takes off.
@tacoqt3388 I know right because mustangs are more sporty cars so the mustang horse makes sense yes I know the mustang isn't naked after the horse but either way the name is there but anyways yeah the Ford mustang mirroring the fast sportiness of the mustang and the new SUV being the counter part of that of instead of sport being mostly elegant but can also be fast you know. Idk why they didn't think of that lol

I mean, a kit can only help Mustang sales, if anything Ford should parter with him to offer it as a dealer add on. It happens with other aftermarket parts so why not this.
His kit will not hinder mustang sales at all , why tf would ford reach out to a UA-camr for knock off kits when they have their own team ? Nobody is going to stop buying mustangs because of some dude 😂
I'd get the kit, and use all that saved $ on as many other upgrades as i could get, whats nice, is, you can simply go as far as you can afford, start with the looks, and as you get more $, just keep adding/upgrading the other individual parts, suspension, engine, turbo, exhaust, interior, etc... and its up to you how far you wanna go with anything else from, bone stock +kit to fully race prepped + kit. also, I'm not sure, but I'd bet if you spent the same $ as the real one costs, on the 'DIY' version, i _think_ you'd end up with a way better / faster/ and totally customized version then the stock one would give you. not sure maybe wrong on that. if you do end up better off, then really why would anyone get the real one? you got warranty going for ya is about it. like even if you dont wanna actually do the build yourself, have someone else do it, but you'd still have the same / better stuffs totally customized for the same $ or cheaper. so i bet they really just can't compete, and that's why they're coming down hard on this. he needs to quick sell as many as possible before they come and take it all in a raid. even if he has to post all plans and info everywhere for free as a last resort! oh, and i would just make a few more changes to some of the panels/vents, get rid of some like you suggested. change some shapes and sizes, etc. to make it 'clearly' show that its different than the OEM version. Try to get out of a suit. but ya, at this point it's just a replica kit. i would also stop advertising it as a GTD or anything ford at all. just push your new name as its own thing, and let the peeps _understand_ what it really is to them. ok dam that wuz l0ng.... /0ut

Ford doesn't have the design patent for block off plates, vents or hood pins.
1:00 no one is larger than you!
Glad to see people covering this
I think the 10-15% can probably be accounted for with the fact the rear quarter is a bolt on the vent window gone vent and the duck bill spoiler. I think it will go over well for street hunters.
I believe it’s 30%..
Remember tj copy righted his own brand back in the day.
I remember the surfwrx drama really showed how shitty if a guy Tj is
I like when drew mentions all the new vents and doesn’t address the tacky way they eliminate the vents in the front bumper.
Personally love the block off plates. Adds a detail vs plain bumper. Rice all the way but still
if you going panel by panel the difference are very small... I think TJ Hunt is banking that the full kit minus the wing = the 10-15% different
So chill, love the energy here!
How much you pay for those bot likes?
Someone probably already said this, but FRP is Fiber Reinforced Plastic. Similar to fiberglass. It's a pretty good and strong material that's a little cheaper than carbon fiber.
It’s basically the speedhunters kit from nfs unbound
Y'all will call RWB a hack but not tj hunt
RWB is original designs! This is an exact el cheapo way to look like you're driving a 325k car!! And yes RWB is hacking up 911's. But to HIS TASTE!!
If the changes are considered by the hood, left fender, right fender, front bumper, rear bumper, wheels, truck, right quarter panels and left quarter panels, that’s 8/10 things maybe I missed one or 2 but he’d only have too change 2 things to be over a 15% change in design
I think he will be able to slide with it because there is full Shelby kits for the regular s550s
That kit is probably trademarked or design is covered with industrial patent, especially with a company as large as Ford. Mega dumb idea lol.
as a customer wanting a gtd, but cheaper, you can buy the whole kit, and not mount all of it. ie the duckbill and the glass vent thing. mount a custom spoiler and boom, i have a car for 70% off
Also, probably voids warranties, could be liability issue, say you put this kit on and it either makes stated times not possible or worse causes a malfunction at high speeds but on the off chance you can't prove it wasn't Ford's fault it could be bad.
Just stop 😂
Nice 1320 hoody you got there. So.... When are you moving to the DFDub?
I hope soon
@@DrewPeacock Smart man!
We’re full over here y’all needa stay where y’all at bruh 🤦♂️
@@realhastalamuerte303 We have room for people like Drew though.
He literally straight copied there kit its called being lazy and deserves to get sued
Ford should've just partnered with the bodykit. They make money for the Ford S650 GT "GTD" Bodykit, and TJ Hunt keeps his awesome Mustang
I never heard of tj hunt
You legitimately live under a rock. If you consider yourself even remotely apart of the car scene you’d know who TJ is 😂😂 he’s one of not the most famous car influencers
Me neither, but I don't really have much interest in new bodykitted cars. Much prefer my classics.
Adam Lz is better
@@Riley-dw5wymaybe we just don’t care ? Who are you to tell people who’s influential in the car community ? Weirdo 😂😂
@@Keefer24 bro said he never heard of him not that he doesn’t care, and speak for yourself drop the “we” talk nobody cares 😂
Not to mention you need to own like 7 mustang 5.0s in the past or 3 Shelby’s to get a gtd
Yes they do look very similar, but the difference is one is an aftermarket body kit to fit any new S650 mustang and the other is a factory race car. Just adding the looks doesnt make it the same car. Thats like comparing a Porche basic GT3 with a GT Cup car.
Someone was bound to make this kit anyways.
The best question is , why was streethunter not confident enough to create their own design instead of starting with the GTD design and making changes ? Yes, it looks great , but it was the easy way , stealing is always the easiest way to make money.
None have been sold so they can't be sued for trademark infringement... at this point a court order to cease and desist the production is what will happen
ive seen them put on cars they fit very well.
His mustang image and Ford's are so close to each other its easier to name off what doesnt match.
@@entronics I doubt it's close enough to be covered under a design patent. Ford can't stop people from making vents and shapes.
@@logan9334they most certainly can, you’ll see when his kit disappears 😂
Not really a fan of race car kits for regular trims
this is a good perspective of WHY Ford is making a stink about this. i think he'll be okay legally if he doesnt continue to kit, make some changes, and he'll sell plenty of kits. Fords not wrong, but a business man like TJ should have saw this ahead of time as any good business person knows to keep your ducks in a row throughout your investment that allows changes until it becomes a legal issue. I like TJ's rear better tbo, but have ALWAYS loved molded wide bodies and am not a big fan of these riveted kits
i think its more the fact its tj hunt, a well known automotive youtuber with alot audience's.
all his cars did well in sema and broke the automotive world to a certain degree.
they dont want him to take any shine away from the gtd at sema, they dont want any comparisons between his kit and gtd.
ford wabt thier debuting of the gtd at sema to be their own.
they also dont want ppl to have the idea... wait.. i can build a poor man gtd with power and looks for a fraction.
obviously most of us have dream to owning a certain specail car thats out of reach but we have rep body kits since the dawn of age.
like;
- nissan skyline conversion to gtr kit
- bmw m3 kits
- lancer evo kit
- subaru sti kit
thier a whole bunch of others one but u get my point, their ppl who want the look but cant afford the car it self.
if it was any other company like the typical china brand, they wouldnt give a dam.. its just tj hunt have a big name and reputation which alot young ppl look up too, his body kit will sell.
if tj was smart and out right steal the design, shouldve patented the design, then talk to ford about a partner ship.
be the 1st car company to have a wide body kit add on when you build your car.
most company have thier oem plus sport kits, Mercedes amg, bmw m sports , lexus f sports and so on.
who know, if it does well, other car company might even fallow suit.
imagine, bmw to allow you to build a dtm bmw , or a gt body kit to your new bmw build .
wont be cheap but thatll be pretty sick.
Ford is right to sue this guy tj Hunt. I do like the body kit, but it's way too similar to the gtd
Bad publicity is good publicity, good marketing strategy at a high legal cost.
Doesn't matter if his is different enough. Unless he is selling 1000s of kits, the cost of a lawsuit is enough to stop.
I saw the mustang GTD race at the last rolex24 it sounds crazy
You're looking good in the 1320 merch. Hope TJ doesn't go behind bars for pretty much replicating the front end😂
I was wanting to let yall know “I don’t work with him”😂😂
It’s literally a copycat version of the ford GTD ( I’m his long timer viewer )
lol nah ford dumb
The omi in a hellcat reference is diabolical 😂😂😂
you got me at paintball.
The GTD is only a limited run car. If you did NOT get the coin that Ford gave people like Shmee and Strad did you can not get one simple.
Waiting on that next rant video👀
This is a fire idea
@tacoqt3388 I know right because mustangs are more sporty cars so the mustang horse makes sense yes I know the mustang isn't naked after the horse but either way the name is there but anyways yeah the Ford mustang mirroring the fast sportiness of the mustang and the new SUV being the counter part of that of instead of sport being mostly elegant but can also be fast you know. Idk why they didn't think of that lol
Nobody cares about your crap ev. Change your own badges and lettering.
It's made of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic)!!
Polymer. Not plastic. All plastics are polymers but not all polymers are plastic.
my favorite thing about this is back in the day TJ acted exactly like ford when there was knock off merch
It’s probably just gonna be a 1 of 1 kit for TJ himself
He should add a roof scoop and sideskirts just to evade
I mean, what about the kits people would sell to make an S550 look like a GT500? Never said anything about that
Hey drew, just wondering what recording equipment do you use for your rice or nice videos, the ones where you went to car meets, and like the one where you drove the Tesla with go pro? was thinking of getting into recording myself and my build journey with my 435i I just got recently and will probably posting racing games and other things too.
@Keefer24
They never would reach out to a UA-camr for a kit collaboration but if they did it would only increase sales.
/0ut
So you’re a poser ? Cool
All he needed to do to keep under the radar was just _avoid_ using the GTD vents on the hood and fenders. He pulled a GTA Online and nearly 3D scanned a GTD model from the looks of this kit.
Roush and Magnuson’s car was at SEMA. That car copied the GTD down to the wheels. I think Roush saw TJs car and called big daddy Ford crying
I’ve never heard of this TJ guy, but he didn’t even ATTEMPT to make his plagiarized version “different”.
He should have retained a lawyer the second he posted it as a kit to sell
This video is amazing! I'm hooked!
Why did ten people like this cringe bot comment?
Idk y car companies r complaining look at gta rockstar is completely ripping car designs off and they r not getting smack for it for anything big car companies should also go after rockstar as well
How those TE37 wheels replica? still in the market?
There not worried about the wheels😒
But you have to remember when you speak about 10-15% its of the whole product and that in this case includes the whole car not just the styling!! And if we include the whole product the difference is monumental since nothing in this body kit includes what the GTD has under its shell and hood!!
Right but the product tj is selling is the kit. There's still more than enough different that Ford should f off tho
It’s like when ford sued fords garage for the logo but it was changed 10% so they couldn’t do anything. The lady that made the sign is our customer.
Thats not entirely accurate. Fords Garage tried to trademark their name, and were denied. Ford was notified about it, contacted Fords Garage, and they ended up making a licensing deal where Fords Garage pays Ford to use the name and logo.........
Smurfin WRX
20% change to a patent.
