As a bus driver, I see people running my reds all the time. It makes me feel great to see pd taking initiative and stopping people from doing this dangerous crime!
my brother works for Gatekeeper systems. They're a company that specializes in camera systems for vehicles. They have tons of systems in use across North America that use stop arm cameras. If a car passes a bus with the stop arm activated three pictures are taken, the front license plate, the driver, and the rear license plate.
Put an active camera to switch on when the signs out and off when it's not. Send them a ticket and have them show up to court mandated to talk to a Judge and explain it. It's no different that a speed camera. The difference being this is to save kids lives not Big brother!
Ahman Millener They'd also have to change laws and do public education campaigns first, where I am the cops set up speeding cameras, but the tickets got thrown out because by law they had to have proper signage up indicating of the camera thing ahead. So the law kinda forces the cameras to be a deterrent and only tickets those that don't care and speed anyway. When I lived in that area I never saw cops patrolling and everyone just breaker for the cameras... DUI was also socially acceptable there -_- So they'd have to change laws to allow for traffic enforcing cameras being installed on buses, proper signage of them being in use, public education campaigns to notify of the change, and then prove that it's a foolproof system that can't be screwed with.like Busdriver acticating the camera without the arm out.
Speed cameras are a deterrent they don’t hold up in court. As this is the highest moving fine that can be given, anybody would go to court and get it thrown out
This is a great idea. In my department we view infractions within close proximity of a school bus to be some of the more serious infractions, rarely issuing a warning. We've never gone as sneaky as this but it's definitely a good idea. People will be thinking twice before driving around like a ding dong near a bus full of our future.
why dont they just mount cameras like at red lights. violators get a nasty ticket mailed home and maybe required to show up in court amd explain why they ran the sign. personally i would be more embarrassed having to explain why i didnt stop.
Dantastic agreed this is one the cops should really be looking out for.... btw if the person is reckless enough to not stop for the bus, what’s the chances they won’t run a stop sign either ? It’s not just kids that are in danger...
Next time... Simply have an "un-marked" driving in the front-pilot "position" ahead of the bus.. such that when the bus "stops" - the lead-pilot car can slow and crawl until about 50 - 100 yards further on .. after the bus stops, as that way - the cop in the bus only has to give the "lead" driver the two-way call, and that officer in the lead-car thus has a "free-run" at the speedster, because he's already ahead of the bus, and slowly moving .. thus an acceleration is all he needs to be "up-to' chase speed, by the time the illegal bus-passer get to them..
Several years ago I was a taxi driver. Every now and then the local police would show up at the company and borrow some taxis. They were the spotters and as soon as they caught anyone breaking the law they contacted another officer in a marked police vehicle and you got some pretty flashing blue lights behind you. be careful out there because the police are undercover in more vehicles than just school buses and taxes.
Something I would love to see when the stop sign deploys for a stop is under the bus, a spike strip that can adjust to two lane or four lane capability comes out as well. See how many red light runners will run then.
@NeOGlock They do. On most buses in my county there are two night-vision cameras mounted under the stop sign facing the back and front and when the 8-ways are activated they snap a picture when motion is detected. But the citation has to be made up manually- they haven't automated that yet! :)
There are so many ridiculous traffic violations I've seen police try to attack head on in full force. This is not one of those violations. Keep the kids safe, you go guys.
Drivers caught driving past stopped school buses that have lights that are flashing should be fined. The Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, Canada prescribes 6 penalty points and a large fine for blowing past stopped school buses.
This is outrageous you place the safety of a child every time you pass a school bus with their flashing lights on. I wouldn't want on my conscience somebody getting hit by my car passing me flashing lights. Where do these people get their license?
why dont they use a camera system that when then stop sign comes out anyone who passes gets caught by cctv registration taken and receive a fine through the post. London has them on the buses for drivers who go in the bus lane at restricted times.
Many smaller districts don't have the money and voters won't approve bond measures to get them. In my district, our schools have "delayed" nearly 50 million in repairs because of inadequate funding.
I live in California the procedure is that we activate our red lights take the keys out of the bus and cross the kids, we're out of the bus no longer than a minute. Also some of our buses have a park-brake feature which disables the air brake knob( I'll be happy to do a video demonstration If you like) so the kids can't move it. I can understand your worries but everybody is safe.
I'd like to be called in on these. As a Trooper I was pulling over 4 or 5 at a time. I even had a motorcycle that I caught up to that went by at about 200, by the time I got turned around they were 2 miles away, it was more luck that I caught them when they finally thought they were safe. Having an aircraft above could also help alot.
Foremost let me commend you for the job that you chose. Most folks can't really wrap their heads around the demands of your vocation. And kudos to your constabulary for taking an aggressive stance as they try to stop these potential children killers. Godspeed you all.
School Buses have amber warning lights similar to hazard lights that are turned on about 5-10 seconds before the bus stops. There is plenty of time for drivers to safely stop and wait for the children to disembark.
I watched a pick up truck pass a stopped school bus once and almost hit the kids who had just gotten off. They were walking oblivious and were going to cross the street in front of the bus. The kids never saw it coming but the bus driver and I did. We both laid on laid on our horns. The kids heard it and stopped quick but the driver never slowed or looked back in his mirror. Angels and miracles worked together that day.
What i'm trying to get on about is this: People still need to stop for when kids are getting off buses. And, in drivers handbooks/classes, they say that pedestrians, no matter what age, are to be given the right of way. And the police in this were doing this due to complaint they received on drivers like this.
On a bus, the yellow light is used a warning or heads-up for drivers to prepare to stop, not proceed with cuation like an amber traffic light. Then the red lights and stop sign.
It's so ridiculously bad out here . That I used to take my daughter to school in the early morning program at school and there was a short bus that has to stop across the street for a kid @ 630ish I would use my car to keep cars from passing and the would still try to pass me until they see the kid !! It's like wow !!!! Where the respect and care for the Youth of America !!!!!!
bus drivers tend turn the ambers on and open the door to activate Reds while in motion. your trying to figure when is the bus stopping when your distance is to far back to know if the bus had stopped or not.
Naaaahhh. That's bullcrap. I live in Maine, And the school bus drivers always watch out for cars that may seem to be going to fast to stop. They put the yellows first, but if it seems you are going too fast, they will wait 5 or more seconds before they flip the sign and red lights. Now that my friend, is REVENUE GENERATION.......
He's correct as a driver if a kid needed to cross the street, I'm required to turn the engine off and walk in the street with a hand held stop sign and let them cross.
Dr. Zoidberg I don't know if it is the whole state, but at least the Rochester area and it is only a few days of the school year so rarely done and the amount of busses followed depends on how many units they have so not every bus is followed.
a stop sign means stop... not continue on going like it was not there... its the same as a intersection... the pedestrians have the right away to cross...
The question about the cussing was rhetorical. Whenever police are used in this situation then there a couple of reasons as to why: 1) Parents of theses kids are probably calling about the way some drivers are around the buses during unloading/loading of students. 2) It is probably, also, due to some cases of accidents involving children leaving the bus.
Amanda Jarrett was with Wood TV 8 in Grand Rapids Michigan and I am so happy to see her gone that voice of hers is so irritating I had to mute my TV no loss to Michigan 😂
This morning I dropped off my son to school and I happen to be stopped by the bus in front of me with lights flashing red and next thing I know I’m being honked at behind me ....they kept honking and honking I didn’t go but it kinda frustrates me how impatient people could be. I got the middle finger afterwards and the F word just glad I was there so the kids could get on the bus safely.
Make it mandatory for all school busses across the country (both U.S & Canada) to have HD cameras on the front and rear of the bus that activate the moment driver activates the flashing lights warning motorists that the bus is about to stop. Word of advice to all UA-cam users who are learning to drive or just started to drive. DON'T PASS A SCHOOL PASS WHEN THE SIGN IS OUT. You will be putting the kids or other passengers at risk. Some kids go in front the bus to get to the other side of the road, right in your path.
I almost died to one of those idiots. Stop signs were out. I was crossing the street. Suddenly, a car zooms around the school bus. (Plus, if u really wanna see idiots, go to a railroad crossing and wait for a train. People will actually go around the railroad crossing gates)
Let's get some seat belts in those buses. Let's alert the family's that there will be others riding with THERE kids ahead of time. Let's not include kids in police stings. Your putting them at risk. Get your own bus.

Bottom line, there are children. Here is AZ the drivers I have seen, put on their flashing lights then stop the bus then put out the flashing stop sign. There is a good 15 seconds or longer for all this to happen. Nobody should be slamming on their brakes or not failing to stop. About 3/4 years ago a crosswalk guard was run over and killed at a school crossing.
Where I live they want to do it, but we’re debating it for cost reasons I believe (the previous government was notarious for wasting money on stupid things but not this..... the amount of people it would catch would pay for itself fast! (the fine goes to 2k and starts at 490)
If it was a family member of yours you'll feel exactly the same so yes it's those little kids. 😂😂bad drivers. If you drive by a stopped bus. Should be 1 year suspension.
This is a good practice by state police, but, the 'bad' also has to be reversed...In Houston, Tx where I live, school bus drivers are known to speed as much as 35 mph, or MORE, above the speed limit all over Houston, The worst place for this going on is in North Houston, just southwest of Bush Airport by Aldine School District buses. I have personally paced them doing 75 mph in the posted 45 mph areas. School police, bus barn bosses, and, school superintendents will do NOTHING! This is our school taxes at work here in Houston, Texas!
This school bus using and displaying the STOP sign is a pain in the ass and a waste of taxpaying motorists' time. The same kids would ride on the city bus and exit at the same location and sidewalk, but the city bus does NOT display the STOP sign. If kids can get off the city bus safely so can they from a school bus!
As a bus driver, I see people running my reds all the time. It makes me feel great to see pd taking initiative and stopping people from doing this dangerous crime!
In Ontario cameras automatically come on as soon as the busses flashing lights do, are your busses equipped the same way?
$5000 minimum fine have great day !
my brother works for Gatekeeper systems. They're a company that specializes in camera systems for vehicles. They have tons of systems in use across North America that use stop arm cameras. This is a real thing where I live now
except speed cameras are dismissed in court and is the main reason i wear sunglasses and stuff while driving.
Speed cameras are a deterrent they don’t hold up in court. As this is the highest moving fine that can be given, anybody would go to court and get it thrown out
This is a great idea. In my department we view infractions within close proximity of a school bus to be some of the more serious infractions, rarely issuing a warning.

looks like B ST is mad
Simple solution - Roof mounted machine guns!
+Sage Diviner calm yourself child
Sage Diviner lol
Chance of ricochet back towards the bus though..
Sage Diviner 😂
Sage Diviner you spelt rocket launcher wrong lol
why dont they just mount cameras like at red lights. violators get a nasty ticket mailed home and maybe required to show up in court amd explain why they ran the sign. personally i would be more embarrassed having to explain why i didnt stop.
chavy I agree just like cameras used in overhead tolls to take license plates
some state can't issue tickets in else officer see them bus compaines do not have all this extra money to buy things they don't have
chavy I
this isn't *only* about red lights..
In many places, they call that "illegal modification of a school bus." I wore a body cam and they frowned on that too. It's bureaucracy at its worst!
on top of speeding tickets, violators should be fined extra to cover the cost of school bus cameras.
100% agree
100% agree
and for the police payment
100% agree and more school bus companies should do this with the police every once in a while.
Donald Trump we got a tough kid here who is another dumbass
Good, they should do this more often.
Great idea to have law enforcement on the buses.
This is one violation you can't argue the police are enforcing just for revenue. Keep it up.
Dantastic agreed this is one the cops should really be looking out for.... btw if the person is reckless enough to not stop for the bus, what’s the chances they won’t run a stop sign either ? It’s not just kids that are in danger...
Equip the school buses with exterior cameras!
I seen Some of the drivers don't stop at the street stop signs!!! So don't complian just about the bus stop signs!!
Here they took out the stop signs in residential areas & put in yield signs. City & insurance companies probably running low on money.
stopping or a full stop? full stops arent needed as long as they doa decent stop look every direction twice and then go
We need them on my bus !!!
Or have a police officer posted at/near every bus stop possible in the mornings and afternoons.
I saw someone in a red ford sedan pass the reds. My bus driver caught his plate, I wrote it down, and it got taken to the police. #catchpeoplesplates

David W yup 6 demerits for passing a school bus is the same league as drag racing ...... as it should.....
This is outrageous you place the safety of a child every time you pass a school bus with their flashing lights on. I wouldn't want on my conscience somebody getting hit by my car passing me flashing lights. Where do these people get their license?
only 3 out of 11 were caught/cited? what a waste of time... i can't believe they weren't more prepared for this....
They will be.
You only a certain amount of cops who can actually catch up and pull someone over
City got their money
Better than none at all
Guys, passing a school bus is like passing the FBI going 100 miles an hour.
Eleven vehicles passing a school bus with its stop arm extended within 30 minutes could indicate a problem.
why dont they use a camera system that when then stop sign comes out anyone who passes gets caught by cctv registration taken and receive a fine through the post. London has them on the buses for drivers who go in the bus lane at restricted times.
Many smaller districts don't have the money and voters won't approve bond measures to get them. In my district, our schools have "delayed" nearly 50 million in repairs because of inadequate funding.
If they put cameras on the buses they could get a hell lot more tickets, more than enough to cover the cameras in the first place.
I bet those are the best behaved kids on a bus EVER! Put a state trooper on every bus where kids behave badly.
Foremost let me commend you for the job that you chose. Most folks can't really wrap their heads around the demands of your vocation. And kudos to your constabulary for taking an aggressive stance as they try to stop these potential children killers. Godspeed you all.
need this to happen in the afternoon in NSP,Maplewood,Oakdale area no matter what company
Good reminder I will be more careful and make sure when I'll see a yellow truck it will be my priority
School Buses have amber warning lights similar to hazard lights that are turned on about 5-10 seconds before the bus stops. There is plenty of time for drivers to safely stop and wait for the children to disembark.
this is a very good idea... most police should been on a school bus checking for drivers who doesn't stop and checking for kids for do silly things
800mhz trunking system. The ISP statewide system that's been in use for over a decade.
Once that sign pops out and it says STOP, you gotta STOP. Doesn't matter who you are, treat the bus STOP sign as if it was a real STOP sign.
Good, this should also prevent fights on the bus. Nobody is going to get in a fight on the school bus if there is a cop on board.
i bet those kids behaved themselves when he was on that bus probably could hear a pin drop lol
In Ontario whenever those flashing lights come on a camera automatically comes on to to catch anybody that goes by illegally.
What i'm trying to get on about is this: People still need to stop for when kids are getting off buses. And, in drivers handbooks/classes, they say that pedestrians, no matter what age, are to be given the right of way.
And the police in this were doing this due to complaint they received on drivers like this.
That needs to continue at All times
This needs to be done frequently as this is basically free money for the city 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They should put a high resolution cam on that stop sign on the bus. Should be like a money generator for the first few weeks :-)
On a bus, the yellow light is used a warning or heads-up for drivers to prepare to stop, not proceed with cuation like an amber traffic light. Then the red lights and stop sign.
All states need to do this! With a 1500 dollar fine!
What an AWSOME idea!!!!!
Bet there were 0 fights on that bus that day!
I had a police officer ride a school bus with us once when I was in junior high.
I was just pointing out how nervous they must've been getting on the bus that day and seeing a cop on it...
bus drivers tend turn the ambers on and open the door to activate Reds while in motion. your trying to figure when is the bus stopping when your distance is to far back to know if the bus had stopped or not.
all i can say is good job cop and driver bus lady...
Naaaahhh. That's bullcrap.
I live in Maine, And the school bus drivers always watch out for cars that may seem to be going to fast to stop.
They put the yellows first, but if it seems you are going too fast, they will wait 5 or more seconds before they flip the sign and red lights.

F*cking unbelievable that people fly past a school bus stop sign! 😡
We have Cameras on all our schools buses in the area. EVERYWHERE NEEDS CAMERA’s‼️
He's correct as a driver if a kid needed to cross the street, I'm required to turn the engine off and walk in the street with a hand held stop sign and let them cross.
In New York state at least there are days when state police follow our buses and then there is a runner the lights go on and they are chased down.
Dr. Zoidberg I don't know if it is the whole state, but at least the Rochester area and it is only a few days of the school year so rarely done and the amount of busses followed depends on how many units they have so not every bus is followed.
Have a safe and careful day. God bless all kids to make it safely to school and home.
a stop sign means stop... not continue on going like it was not there... its the same as a intersection... the pedestrians have the right away to cross...
state patrol doin a lot of good out there. Great job yall
Yeah they'll spread the word....DONT GET CAUGHT, these punks need to pat a HUGE FINE for putting children in harms way.
Amanda Jarrett was with Wood TV 8 in Grand Rapids Michigan and I am so happy to see her gone that voice of hers is so irritating I had to mute my TV no loss to Michigan 😂
Should be a mandatory 6 month license suspension. There is no excuse for endangering kids due to impatience or stupidity.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
That is MJ, he's still alive.
Make it mandatory for all school busses across the country (both U.S & Canada) to have HD cameras on the front and rear of the bus that activate the moment driver activates the flashing lights warning motorists that the bus is about to stop. I almost died to one of those idiots. Stop signs were out. I was crossing the street. Suddenly, a car zooms around the school bus.
(Plus, if u really wanna see idiots, go to a railroad crossing and wait for a train. People will actually go around the railroad crossing gates)
Yep and people want to increase the speed of the trains putting more people at risk
that's extremely smart
Actually some kids have a 6th sense to alert them when something is wrong. I still have mine working over time, lol. But, yeah pretty good theory.
I think you just found a cause that needs a leader... go get em, give em hell till it's overturned!
Let's get some seat belts in those buses. Let's alert the family's that there will be others riding with THERE kids ahead of time. Let's not include kids in police stings. Your putting them at risk. Get your own bus.
"Their" dumb ass, not "there." And you even capitalize your stupidity!!
how much would it cost to make spike strips roll out with the stop sign? becuse that is a great idea
ok, go back and "read" if there "ISNT" a crossing guard or a crosswalk. then there is no reason to stop, because the driver is required to get off the bus and stand in the middle of the road with a stop sign if a kid needs to cross. if no kids are crossing theres no reason to stop..
They should do this in the Bronx and Yonkers
Bottom line, there are children. Here is AZ the drivers I have seen, put on their flashing lights then stop the bus then put out the flashing stop sign. There is a good 15 seconds or longer for all this to happen. Nobody should be slamming on their brakes or not failing to stop. About 3/4 years ago a crosswalk guard was run over and killed at a school crossing.
$500 and you caught 3 out of 11... sounds like you should increase the ticket.
Wow. I would like a state trooper on my county school bus.
Need cameras on the school busses! Also need TAGS on front and rear of vehicles to catch the violators!
Where I live they want to do it, but we’re debating it for cost reasons I believe (the previous government was notarious for wasting money on stupid things but not this..... the amount of people it would catch would pay for itself fast! (the fine goes to 2k and starts at 490)
Damn now we can’t vape on the bus anymore
It's such a small inconvenience for the safety of our children
If it was a family member of yours you'll feel exactly the same so yes it's those little kids. 😂😂bad drivers. If you drive by a stopped bus. Should be 1 year suspension.
No, when the bus stops, pull to the middle so other cars cannot go around it.
The word they'll spread is "don't get caught" not "don't do it."
Cops should be shadowing school buses every school day to catch stop sign runners. What else do they have to do at 7:00 in the morning?
the driver kinda looks like michael jackson.
What's wrong with a few kids getting clipped?
In Galveston Texas, the drivers they are not respecting any schools signal
It's $200 in Montana
I just came from there...
They should go straight to jail, not a fine...
main producer: WTHI-TVpolice: SG. TOM HANNON
Whats the point of the police riding on the bus if they only caught 3 out of 11 drivers?
need MN to do this in the TC area
