      Putting the correct words together, making sure my tone is soft, nervous about not being able to truly get across how skilled I am.

      I struggle with how online applications don't have a space for a cover letter uplink, only a resume uplink, but not one for a cover letter. They don't say it's optional or not required or not wanted. I've got little work experience, haven't worked in years, and need that cover letter to share myself. But when they don't provide a space for it, it feels like I'm trapped in not being able to share myself enough to get me the job. What do I do? Can I put it in as the first page of the resume? What would you suggest?

      The fact that they used to be relevant in the past, when you had to physically print and mail your resume. Before Emails/online applications/social media were a thing. Today they are not relevant, unless one is applying for a high paying role. Unfortunately as I see in Canada - low paying roles still require a cover letter. It's a bit of a stretch to have someone write an engaging cover letter for part time minimum wage and no right to sit. Wonder if this may change any time soon.

    This was absolutely informative and a huge help to me! Thank you! As an RN with >27 years experience, I find myself in a position in having to sell myself for the first time (my jobs were always be recommendations) in my Nursing career. Boy is it hard! Listing to this has given me direction and confidence in putting my cover letter together. I still remain unsure as I'm nervous in putting the correct words(ing) together but atleast I'm a bit more open to doing it!

    How old is she? Looking very young but bet she already had more than 10 years working experience. I appreciate her skill, she must be a very hard working one to reach this position. While HR people I know are almost middle aged ones, good to see much younger generations to advice us the oldies on how to look for a job. 👏👏👏

    • @Indeed
      @Indeed  3 роки тому +2

      You can put your LinkedIn URL in the heading of your cover letter and resume. However, you will want to ensure that you have an up-to-date and fully fleshed out LinkedIn profile that you are sending them to. -CC

    "Do you really need to write a cover letter?" YES, 100% (unless the ad specifically says not to include one).
    Most résumés sound the same. People applying for positions often have similar experience and degrees. A cover letter is where the employer can learn more about YOU.
    Thus, I typically ignore applications without a cover letter.
    What, you don't care enough about the position to bother with writing a CL? If you don't include a CL, you're also assuming that I will make all the necessary connections between your experience, knowledge, and skills and the position duties. Why wouldn't you take the time to make those connections for me? Why not take the opportunity to share something that won't be clear from a standard résumé? Plus, the CL gives me some insight into your writing ability.
    Unless explicitly told not to include one, I think it is a huge mistake not to do so. It's really where you can start to become an actual person, and not just a collection of bullet points on a résumé.

      Smart hiring managers aren't convinced that a bunch of words and phrases on a piece of paper are what enable them to define a person, which is why many hiring managers don't bother asking for cover letters. Actions speak louder than words! That is what the interviews and the probationary periods are for!
      Words are cheap, and any idiot can use spellcheck or the grammarly editing platform. Do you *really* believe that if an applicant creates a winning cover letter, but shows up late for the interview, is sloppily dressed, has terrible hygiene, is poorly prepared for the questions asked, etc...that that applican'ts cover letter is a true reflection and testament to that applicant's professionalism? So when they actually interview the person face-to-face and observe how they dress, how they communicate, how they utilize body language etc, and *then* upon giving that individual the role to scrutinize how they interact with the team, perform their role, and fit into the company culture, that applicants' success is the quintessential example of actions speaking louder than words!
      *That* is the evidence!

      @@TheGozalus And many people are really good at saying what they know you want to hear.
      That's why a smart hiring manager uses multiple methods to make a decision that is as-informed-as-possible.
      You don't hire someone off the cover letter; it's just another piece of the puzzle - and it's a great way to weed out a lot of applicants.
      But, hey, if you want to interview all 128 applicants we had for our last position, then knock yourself out.
      Oh, wait... that's wasting a lot of company time and money. There MUST be a better way of limiting the number of interviews we do... if only I could think of one way of deciding who to interview out of all those résumés. Huh.

    • @mbaker8492
      @mbaker8492 Рік тому

      @@TheGozalus No one said anything about ignoring things like showing up late for an interview. But strong cover letters can help you decide whom to interview. But, hey, if you want to interview all 75 applicants for a position, knock yourself out.

    Many comments are talking about how excellently she expresses, but I just wanna say I feel really tired watching her doing those dramatic performances all the time....widening her eyes frequently (that's a bit scary..), having big smiles constantly....I appreciate her trying to be professional and engaged but it's just too much and feels fake. The content is useful but the person presenting it is just overacted and distractive.
