Your cover letter is so important because it's the first interaction that you will have as a job seeker with a hiring manager. Most covering letter are average, or badly written. So let me take you step by step through the six points you need to include to make it great.
We'll look at things you should and shouldn't do and at the end there will be an example of a cover letter that you can adapt for your own job search.
If English is not your first language we will also look at some points about grammar and pronunciation for non-native speakers in the application letter.

I am a graduate with 30 years experience in the field of invasive medicine. I have done thousands of holes in human skins and veins.

I must honestly admit, people don't often see me as a friendly person, but my enormous enthusiasm is so contagious, that on the second meeting many of them insisted on being punctured. Oh yes, throughout my career I've been achieving goals beyond my expectations.
Keeping secrets is crucial to my basic profession. I hope you'll understand why I can't send you my CV. If I did, I'd have to kill you all.

Many people think that it is better to apply to 100 jobs generally, but your approach of crafting a cover letter specifically, and then applying to what will likely result to a smaller number of jobs (maybe 20) will probably go way further. I wrote that iam applying for an internship job in accounting. This has been my greast goal. Of working with numbers in accounting departments. This is because I am a sociable person.
