I'm 61 now, the same age as Nick Lowe when this session was recorded. I have been listening to Nick Lowe since I was in high school, and as I've gone through the decades of my life, it's felt like Nick Lowe blazed the trail ahead of me, writing and singing songs about his lived experiences. His songs speak to me deeply because they so perfectly capture the essence of getting older, experiencing disappointment & heartbreak, gaining wisdom, and finding a chance at renewal.
Nick Lowe is among the very best of UK songwriters. His sincere honesty and a dry humour always come through in his work. Always seems like a lovely bloke too. Definitely a sound of my younger days and one ive happily followed for decades.
The most underappreciated popular artist for his contributions from country rock, pub rock, punk, new wave, pure-pop, rock, country, singer-songwriter, and more! House for sale…Genius!
Treating myself to this on the evening of my 61st birthday. Nick has been a source of inspiration since I was 16 when I bought Elvis Costello's "Armed Forces" as my first album purchase. From there, I bought Nick Lowe records, then Brinsley Schwarz records, and onward through the Nick Lowe family tree. So fun to discover this.
Thanks for pulling this one out of the vault. I have such fond memories of Nick Lowe acoustic at the Bowery Ballroom sometime around 2005-ish. A Monday night. Most of us 40+ (folks who remembered him from his Elvis Costello years). Lowe came out around 9pm, played a delicious, unfussy, sober, pitch-perfect set that was over around 10:30. And then we all went home to our adult lives, happy to see a great talent--one that managed not to be claimed by the demons that took down so many of our 70s-era heroes. Thanks, Nick Lowe. Thanks, NPR.
As an original Beatle maniac I remember after they had broken up it was Nick and Rockpile along with the Faces that filled the void. There was nothing going on in in USA that even came close. Love you Ni

As I listen to Nick Lowe sing “House for Sale” I can hear the how much he influenced Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, especially the way Alex sings and writes on the last couple albums 👏🏻
Glad you re-visited this by Nick, I have seen it before, but a nice reminder on a wet cold day in an English summer :) Thank you.... would love you to get the Artic Monkeys, Elbow and Lisa Hannigan on here and maybe a re-visit by Maclemore....

I always get a kick out of "Man That I've become" because I see a glimpse of myself there.

He’s the greatest songwriter you’ve ever had on the series. And artist, and musician. The greatest period.

Pure gold. Thanks for sharing.
Big big fan since Brinsley Schwartz.
That song about The Man That I’ve Become....would’ve loved to hear Johnny Cash sing it.
He was married to J Cash's Daughter ?
Johnny Cash did record a Nick Lowe song, The Beast in Me.
That would have been perfect.
0:05 - *Man That I've Become* (2:53 / 3:23)

Lovely.. Just what my soul needed
I've become the kind of man that Nick's become.

And me too
In my opinion he’s the most gifted song writer in the world right now
Hahaha, I love that he immediately followed up Rome Wasn't Built in a Day with All Men Are Liars.
His songs are often tongue in cheek
