I owned a 1980 XS1100 Midnight Special. Great bike, very fast and it handled beautifully. I was the 2nd owner and wish to this very day that I could say that I still owned it.
I had an XS11 of the same year, and color - obviously. Although it was a blast to own - in Cambodia of all places - the 850 would've made me smile no doubt. Congratulations on another beautiful example of the incredible XS-Series
That’s beautiful, I had one in the early eighties and enjoyed , sold it and bought a brand new KZ1100 which I still have , those eighties bikes were so cool , thanks for sharing this .👍😎
Daumm brother Ken I cannot remember the last time I seen the three cylinder Yamaha and I tell you what brother I've had a couple of the 650s when I was younger and they are just a super cool cruiser almost ahead of its time that is a dime piece for sure whoever gets to that will be very happy and there ain't nobody I know that goes the distance and gets as much literature and paperwork with these bikes then you do you're the greatest of all times brother Ken there ain't nobody that can dispute that💯💪🏻💪🏻💚👍🏻👍🏻🌎🤟🏻🤟🏻🇺🇲✌🏼
There's just something so incredibly cool about bikes from the late 70's through to the early 90's. My pick of the bunch would be the Z1300, but this big Yam is a stunner....Great stuff Mr Kaplan.
Very very nice 1981 Yamaha, LS850SG absolutely gorgeous midnight special. Very nice bike. Love the paint job. Chrome really pops off of it. Thanks Ken. Great video. Ronnie New England motorcycles museum number one 🤘🇺🇲 absolutely stunning motorcycle. Love the gold around the black
Brother I'm watching you from Greece you got the best bikes evere made out there keep rescue them and us always god bless you and the whole earth peace buddy
Gorgeous musclebike. Unheard of low mileage..In the early 80's, my Uncle had a Black Yamaha XS 1100, with gold badging on the gas tank, like this bike. My Uncle had musclebike handlebars on his. If she were mine, I'd get a mean sounding exhaust...deep and throaty, and put some muscle bike handle bars on her! ML&R

Wow, if I was Ken I'd keep it. It's basically new.
I graduated high school in 1981…so this is my era! One of my favorite bikes!!!
Used to have a minty 1979 Yamaha 750 Special back in the mid 2000s. Only had 2300 miles. Wish I didn’t let it get away…

I used to have a poster of this bike on my wall in 1981 with many others.
The only motorcycle that sounds like a Detroit diesel. Love that exhaust note
Can't be many of these around in this great of condition!
The eleven 1.1 Yamaha so beautiful as well

I had 1 of those. Bought it off a buddy's uncle. Put a kerker pipe on it & had it tuned. Rad bike. He had an eagle airbrushed on the tank.
That same friend I said I bought a CR500 for, his dad had the 1100 midnight special! Beautiful bike.

Nice bike. Had the same bike with a 3 into 1 back in 1989.
Not to nitpick, but are the handlebars loose? I noticed when you got off after your demo ride, it looked like the handlebars rocked back and forth.
they are rubber mounted to reduce vibration
Thank you for the explanation. Did not know such things existed.@@KaplanCycles
Why no helmet?

did they have an 1100 midnight special
Yes
Big ol honkin!
Friend had one. Bummed him out. My 1972 Suzuki water Buffalo would walk and gap him every time. Two stroke tuff to beat.
First street bike I ever rode was a friends, thing would chirp gears with that drive shaft very weird how it lifted under acceleration...
Hi kaplan America can I fit a hondq xl185 engine to a 2010 honda cbf 125? Or cb 250n twin to a cbf 125?'
Would you like to buy an 81 XJ1100 Maximum?
