Rita, You have the prettiest trombone sound in jazz. I worked a time with Chet Baker on piano and alto/.flute. He would have loved you You and your mother are master musicians. The best !!!!!
Ballad for WS,,, Oh that tune is unforgetful, So beautiful. What a wonderful quartet. World class. I would walk 20 miles and pay $200-- to hear this live
Rita Payes is the only trombonist since I worked with Frank Rossolino, that can capture a sense of rapture and quiet authority on her horn that is spell binding, enchanting and wonderful. Her singing is also enrapturing.. What a musician. She will be THE giant on that instrument and really, already is. Beautiful quartet all around !
Spellbinding set of three outstanding original compositions by pianist Lucas Delgado. Hats off to drummer Pol Ribó, who also engineered the sound recording superbly AND did the video editing ... looks like everyone's multi-skilled, these days! Couldn't believe one of my favourite singers, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, was camera operator until I saw her full face at 16:56 ! I guess it's just one big Catalan family in Barcelona! So good to see her choice of shots and thanks again, Pol Ribó, for inserting the mute 'off-stage' relaxing sequences ... reinforcing the image of friends gathering in a beautiful house to make beautiful music far from the pressure of a recording studio. R (Australia)
I love this piece, a pure delight. Ever since I discovered the Joan Chamarro site on UA-cam, I love the way the links take you to even more exciting music. This is fefinitely the future of jazz. Thank you all for the listening pleasure.
This has got to be the world's best-kept secret at only 683 Thumbs up, including my own. What a delight to sit here on my computer with a cup of java and the sound of Rita's trombone send me into a transcendental meditation type mood. Nothing here other than pure raw talent. It's good to see that the future of this Genre is in good hands. Saludos desde Pasadena California!
No surprise that Magali and Rita would find talented artists to hang with. Brilliant stuff. Thanks. And nice production work. Interesting shots throughout. And special thanks for the sound engineering. SO MUCH good underground jazz fades into oblivion because of amateurish sound recording. Kudos Pol! Kudos Sílvia Pérez Cruz!
AIE Aie Aie!!! How beautiful! Thanks to all four of you. The tenderness of Rita, the sensitivity of Magali, the accuracy of Pol and the nuances of Lucas ... It's music that we love to hear beyond the mountains. We let ourselves be enveloped by the warmth of the group and we want more. WELL DONE !!!
That was really, really nice guys!!! You all did a wonderful job! I really liked Ballad for W.S. and Cuando se detiene tiempo!!! They were beautiful! Please continue this wonderful Quartet!!!😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
oh my, that Ballad for W.S. is so beautiful, played to perfection..... have never heard it before...composer? These youtube postings are so critical for us to stay in touch with what is happening in the musical lives of those we have fallen in love with years ago as students of Mr. Joan Chamorro. Thank You!
Strongly agree. Ballad for W.S. is of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in years. The composer according to the titles is Lucas Delgado. He did not know him. It is very good.
And kudos to the drummer for some very nice sensitive playing on this piece. Not easy playing sticks on something this slow and sensitive and not get in the way. He plays with great control and taste. Keep playing Pol!
Seriously though, this is superb performance and a great recording too. Full and clear without a hint of distortion. Those two things are not unrelated.
Really fine music. If a true quartet, the women deserve equal billing (type size). Remember, too, you have two superb singers in the mix and lyrics make even beautiful music easier to relate to. Time stopped too soon; so I listened twice. Good luck.
AAAAH! Great session, compliments to all. As I "follow" Rita around UA-cam I find all these other wonderful musicians too. It's nice to know that the future of music is in good hands.
Yeah lol, the algorithm just pocks up that i watch vídeos from the girls of the SAJB and now it almost feels like they are following ME by how much "underground" stuff I'm getting recommended 😂😂😅
Honestly.. Rita's TONE on the trombone is so warm. I've heard many jazz trombone players...Rita is among the best..that tone is comparable to Tommy Dorsey....(not speaking of style..just the warmest of tones..) Magali is superb here as well, as are the pianist, and drummer.. umm.. question..do her friends call her Magali, or Mags, or Maggie as we would here in America ?
Wow! This group has potential for greatness! I follow Rita and Magali. Outstanding, creative, jazz musicians all. The hairy guy at that beautiful piano who wrote these three pieces is quite exceptional. Never heard of him. BTW, who is/was W.S.? What a gorgeous composition! And how is it that all the best jazz these days is coming from Barcelona? Stay healthy and safe kids!
The only W.S. who comes to my mind is William Shakespeare, who might have been born on St. George's Day, but definitely died on that day. Sant Jordi is a special day in Barcelona: books and roses.
Wow, that was fantastic display of professionalism and mastery by all. Lucas, I love these compositions. Rita has always had a melodic, laid back, West Coast U.S. jazz sound, that is very rare, and perfectly fit's Ballad for W.S. Complements to all. The only constructive comment that I can make, is that the piano was mixed a bit on the heavy side in Marvos Blues, which is a bit distracting at times. Silvia, I really dig the beautifully done, video editing and work as well.
We are heaping superlatves on these lovely, talented people - but they can't take that to the bank, or eat it. We need to buy their music. Where can I purchase a recording of this session? Are there any more?
When you feel terrible, you're missing something essential, and you realize it's been at least five minutes since you last heard Rita's voice or trombone ...
Gracias.
Ai! Ai! Ai! And then I hit the SHOW MORE button and discovered who the videographer was! How wonderfully, ridiculously, delightfully absurd! I stand corrected. There were three top-notch vocalists handy if they had some words to work with. She has a great artsy camera eye, too. And then we get to watch her thinking process thanks to your spot-on editing. There is a St. George Quintet of classical musicians out there. You might catch some flak about the similarity. Again, great music. Salut.
id be really happy just to hear what Lovely Rita is playing in that stringed instrument... We love everything of what our heroes do, what they wear, how they speak and the kind of tea they like the most
Rita has been learning some guitar...she was playing chords for her mother's solo with another group. Here is the track: ua-cam.com/video/AySBPCkGyyY/v-deo.html
Rita and the rest , your ready to tour al over the world ! (hope that epedemick will be over soon) If you come to Denmark I"ll by a ticket right away :
A lovely session, but I have to say I am confused as to why the very different type sizes for the different musicians in the titles. There may be a good reason for it I am not aware of, but it doesn't look good.
Excellent composition and play, Lucas. Congrats! :-) Only, the others in the quartet, when will they finally start to learn a little and exercise? ;-) Musical hugs to Barcelona from Bavaria
Here's a little something for Magali - at about 5:20 ua-cam.com/video/uTV2Ko3gNF0/v-deo.html Would love to see Rita and Magali and other Barcelona jazz musicians play some of the little New Orleans clubs like the Spotted Cat in the above clip.

I feel the same as for her trombone playing! It is sublime.
funny, i told a jazz musician friend i never like jazz trombone till Rita...he recommended i check out Frank Rossolini...
Magali & Rita, just wonderful, great controlled drumming in that environment, pianist made me think of Joe Zawinul for some reason. Very nice :)
Lovely, Young People making Great Art...and having FUN! It doesn't get better than This!

Bill Watrous is sitting there smiling knowing the baton for his instrument has been picked up by Rita. What a lovely set of music !!
Great ECM, Jarret influences. Y que bien que así es.
Rita is Magnificent ❤️
And trombone from 5:55. Beautiful!

This version of Cuando se detiene el tiempo is absolutely outstanding
in my dream world bands like this are on tour and you get to see them live. this is great work....all 3 tunes....
I love the whole set. This is soul ointment :D The drumming reminds me of Danny Richmond's work with Mingus.
Rita's trombone is superb! Beautifully smooth and sweet and subtle. And I love the piano.
Well said! A CD with a booklet featuring good photos of the musicians eventually, maybe?
You put words on my keyboard...I've got nothing to add to this!
Great stuff! Lucky neighbours;)

Magie snd Rita I admire you. You are real pro. Excellent quartet. Jazz is in good hands. Thanks.

What a pleasure !
5:15 to 5:25 beautiful part!
It took Rita a while to blossom, but when she did, oh my, what a gift to the world of jazz.
Can relate to "following" Rita around UA-cam, lol. She always appears in all these groups on different channels. Great music!!
Yeah lol, the algorithm just pocks up that i watch vídeos from the girls of the SAJB and now it almost feels like they are following ME by how much "underground" stuff I'm getting recommended 😂😂😅
El segundo tema es una preciosura. Felicitaciones a lxs cuatro!

Agreed, wonderful playing and tone. Sweet!!
I suspect it would be, Maga, (female magician in Spanish), or perhaps Mag (Catalan).
Una música molt bonica. Felicitats!

Beautiful music and a very good playing by all the musics. If you publish or have published your music, please let us know.

These cats are such CATS!!! Take my breath away.
Sensacionales!!!!!!!
this was nice i needed this
RIta, Lady you are a monster on you horn. Dig your playing!
When I wrote above "you horn"; i'm saying your horn and you are one.
Guauuuuuuu!!!!!
Rita you are the "marster" and the sidemen/woman aswell.!
Rita plays the trombone like others play a trumpet, you know what I mean?
A lovely session, but I have to say I am confused as to why the very different type sizes for the different musicians in the titles. There may be a good reason for it I am not aware of, but it doesn't look good.
No matter what is the type size, Rita and Maga are giants!
Swingin'
Excellent composition and play, Lucas. Congrats! :-)
Only, the others in the quartet, when will they finally start to learn a little and exercise? ;-)
Musical hugs to Barcelona from Bavaria
Are any of those photos available anywhere? Did any other recordings come out of that session? So laid back, and not a dot of music to be seen,
Here's a little something for Magali - at about 5:20 ua-cam.com/video/uTV2Ko3gNF0/v-deo.html Would love to see Rita and Magali and other Barcelona jazz musicians play some of the little New Orleans clubs like the Spotted Cat in the above clip.
