When the Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire a few years ago the first thing I thought of was this song. “Paris is burning, I can see it from afar”. You certainly did, Don! Wow, Dokken was way ahead of their time!
You can hear the Eddie effect in George Lynch's solo on this one. He sounded nothing like Eddie by the mid 80's. Lynch developed one of the most unique styles, you can tell it's him 10 seconds into a song.
@@nikki78225 You mean both solo's? Of course it could count as one long solo. Live at least as seen here Lynch plays the first one but maybe it's all Don on the studio version.
I have to disagree. George Lynch had already pioneered his sound and some unique techniques before Van Halen was big. Lynch credits EVH as an influence but more than a few say EVH copied techniques off of George.
I have Loved Dokken since 84’ when I got Tooth and Nail, out of all the L.A. bands from that period,I always thought Dokken was the best,I can’t believe after all this time I am just now seeing this video and hearing this studio version of this song, and it sounds Fantastic!! Pre Jeff Paulson Dokken with Juan Croucier who went on to play in Ratt
Wow Much respect to Don!!! He can play Guitar as well.... Love his lead, wonder what that switch did at the end of his solo that made that loud bang!!!!! Love this song!!!! Wish I could go back to those days!!!!!
He was a really good guitar player. Unfortunately as recent as about 4 years ago his right arm got paralyzed due to an operation he had that became disastrous. Since then he hasn’t been able to play guitar
Don said in interviews that he originally was going to set out to be a lead guitar player but then after seeing a Van Halen show he decided to be a singer instead since he didn’t think he could be as good as Eddie Van Halen on guitar.
Yes I've seen those interviews he also was very hesitant about having George in the band it was only going to be mick but mick talked him into having George play also
Story goes that Don told him he was fired, then Juan fired back that Don's music sucked and no one liked him. After Juan left, Don broke into tears. Awhile later he began to write Alone Again.
@@ForeverMPH I love Dokken, but Its kind of sad to hear him today. He is still putting on shows and is not in the best health. I wish him well, Dokken put out some amazing music, and I know he has bills to pay like any of us, but I just couldnt pay to see that. He sounds terrible. Like Axl rose, his voice is in bad shape. I suppose none of us are getting any younger.
If you think this song is literally about the streets of France engulfed by flames, you entirely missed the point of the song. Paris is known as “The City of Love,” and by saying, “Paris is Burning...I can see it from afar,” Don Dokken is talking about a romance destined to fail. He can see the signs that it isn’t going to work out.
You can still find, just not in good quality. Im not sure if it ever was good quality to begin with, beat club take all their old clips and remaster the footage if you check out their channel. So this might be the only quality clip of the dokken gig that had was uploaded by someone.
that whats im looking for too, was just telling a friend about it because he did not know Don actually could play. now it looks like im making up crap because i can NOT find the clip.

This is one of my favorite Dokken songs

Well interestingly enough, one year before this song Trust recorded the song Paris Is Still Burning.
I recall I left Paris day before and next day heard the news :)

Ha! Juan Croucier on bass. George had short hair because he was still doing deliveries for a liquor store in LA.
Delivering the goods while Paris burns.
@@ColtraneTaylor Fuck yeah. This is the song that inspired me to play guitar all those years ago.
The live version is pure fire
It's awesome seeing Don play rhythm guitar along with George on leads

Such a great song it's crazy to see George's hair that short
Anyone recognise the bassist? Juan Croucier of Ratt. He left just before the debut album was released.😊

1981 - Paris is Burning 2023 - Paris is burning. BAZZ USA really need to give that Statue back.
This song with the video actually makes me think of today's situation...
Back when Juan Croucier was the bassist
I loved Dokken as a kid.
Wow, Don can seriously play guitar as well!
Yup!
How have I never been heard this version ?
Ph'n Don Playing Lead Guitar ? !
Fantastic.
Can’t get enough of this song. Nostalgia!
I got this album when it came out. Carerre Label Blue Graphics cover.

Damn!! Don Dokken is like Nostradamus!!!

Really, he is! After all, he wrote "Will the Sun Rise?" "Give It Up," etc. Predictions of everything that's happening now.
