I had never heard of Palo Duro Canyon until a couple of weeks ago and have been watching lots of videos about the park and all the different hikes available. You did a great job detailing the hike and showing the landscape. You have a wonderful family, God bless you.

Good morning, I cannot remember the exact elevation but 90% of the trail is mostly flat and wide open so the views are gorgeous. The last part of the descent climbing up to the lighthouse rock was the most difficult for our family. It is steep with slippery rocks, so we just had to climb slowly and carefully. It was just under 6 miles depending if you climb the part to the top ( round trip) so not too bad. I believe we were there in June and it was very hot. Make sure you go very early in the morning because we were feeling that heat on the way back right before noon. We had a full back pack of water and carried a few as well. We didn't run out, however we should have consumed more than we did. The canyon floor can reach well over 120 degrees certain times of the year and they had to rescue several people from that trail due to heat, two weeks before we were there. Just be extremely mindful of the weather and heat. It was well worth the hike and not very difficult until the climb at the end but it was worth it. The views are amazing. I appreciate your comment, thank you for watching.
