Great review, thank you. I’ve just ordered the 2024 IPad along with pencil. However, one has to be a real idiot (kept my language slight), if you lose your pencil. The first place I will look is in the crevice of my sofa!

Double checking what you said about Procreate support for Apple Pencil Pro. From what I can see the current production release does NOT support features like squeeze-for-menu and barrell roll. Are you using a Procreate beta release? Note: these new features do work, as you noted, with Apple provided apps like Notes and Freeform
GoodNotes 6 has been updated with support but the final version of Procreate isn’t out yet. Will be soon!

But do all of these things work with the new Air as well? I don’t want to buy the more expensive pro just for all the Apple Pencil functions.

I’m hoping for an Apple Pencil 3 or a Pro version for the other iPads (surely this will be confusing to some so it’s unlikely). I love the new features of this new Apple Pencil but the fact that I need their new tablets is really disappointing. I will wait until I eventually upgrade to a future iPad Pro but not anytime soon.
They wont. Those iPads will be discontinued later this year and the 2nd-gen will be discontinued too.

As first time user of a pencil for my iPad, now that I have just upgraded to the new iPad Air 13 M2, I have broke the bank and got the Apple Pencil Pro and have just viewed this video.
One really basic question is, what is the app you are using about a third into your presentation that shows the different brushes & pens at the bottom of the screen please.
I already have Procreate but that doesn’t resemble that.
I have also subscribed to your channel, as being nearly 80, I am what you call a late learner.

Apple Notes.
You’ll find this toolbar in the Apple notes when you write with the pen. Just make sure to select the Pencil tool in notes so that you can write/draw using the Pencil. Otherwise the iPad will think you want to scroll with the Pencil instead.

Glad its same size as the 2nd gen means cases and covers will fit even the nibs are the same as the 2nd generation so i can still buy cheaper nibs as...they are identical to apples in practice

use a shortcut to squeeze gesture
Try the ESR pencil pro $29 click the top button. It will go to the home screen and exit you out of an app.

@@PSy84 shortcuts are something I don’t generally use on iPhone too..They seem complicated and it has a lag. Have you tried it on the new Apple Pencil pro ?
Very cool pencil but the find my isn’t very interesting…
That could be added on any pencil with a software update because it’s only give the position of the iPad the last time the pencil was connected. And to detect the proximity it’s simply using Bluetooth strength of the connection…
I was hoping to be really able to detect it like an AirTag but no. There is no hardware change for that specific point and that seems impossible to have an improvement with a software update in that case.
Even a left behind feature isn’t possible as if you use a case for the transport the pencil isn’t connected to the iPad so the pencil will be detected as left behind.
The only improvement possible is that the location was given if the pencil is in the Bluetooth range of the iPad to make a left behind possible.
since the sqeeze feature is uswd for shortcuts or commands but that means that u can only have 1 at a a time right?

Yup! Create a shortcut and then tie that function to the squeeze gesture!
You cannot turn the barrel roll function off and it is annoying. I like the fountain pen tool in freeform because it resembles the chisel tip of a dry erase marker at the “usual” angle. If you move your hand slightly with the pro pencil, the angle is thrown off. I love the squeeze gestures and haptics but I find myself using my usb-c pencil more than my pro because of this barrel roll issue. I hope they allow this setting change in a future update.

Yes he to spend $219 for the new pencil. Went with the 13 from my 11 pro. Think I should have just stayed with the 11.
This was my thought too. After playing around with both… the 11 just seems better. Weight - and reach-wise (typing with both hands whilst holding the iPad).

The Apple Pencil 2nd gen won’t work with the new iPad Air and Pro either. Only the pro and USBC.

No, only the iPad Pro M4 and Air M2 support the pencil pro

Because they redesigned the magnets because the camera was moved to the side that the pencil goes on and it gets in the way
Excuse me my Apple Pencil pro connects to the magnet but doesn’t do anything. It used to be on blue tooth and said it needs to be attached even though it was and now it disappeared. What do I do. Did I get a broken Apple Pencil?

I played around with the new ApplePencilPro at an AppleStore … and it did not impress me. Imagine wanting to buy the latest iPad for sketching… only to be turned off by the squishy pen nib. :(

Guys! 99% of all apps don’t support this Apple Pencil Pro. Only one app - apple Notepad- support it.
Very incorrect. First, some apps have been updated -- but it's only been barely a week. App developers didn't have this information until the rest of us did so they're going as quickly as they can. All the existing Apple Pencil features still work, such as hover support and double tap in Affinity as demoed. I also showed off GoodNotes, which is one of the apps Apple highlighted. That app update has been released and is available now.
