Warrior within is actually my favourite out of all of them. I think the tone change and character change is explained well with the story. Its really well made. I love all 3 games but WW was just so great. The semi open world was great and the Atmosphere was absolutely beautiful

the tension, the music, the darkest atmosphere, ww is almost perfect, being limited only by technology, imagine such a game being made without the limitations of the time, it's basically a wet dream for the fans

@@mapacherojo8475 for sure. It was amazing. The music is wayyyyy too good. I still listen to the album. Atmosphere was great. I think people oversimplify it by saying its "emo prince". But i think it was done properly. Like there was a good reason for it to happen. He had been on the run for so long and he was scared of the dahaka. So he was filled with rage as well and wanted to just be done with all that. The story was actually really good and very well made. The level design was absolutely amazing. Watching the same places in past and present was really fun.
Hopefully if they do remake prince of persia sands of time, and it goes well and they go on to remake warrior within, i hope they keep it faithful to source material and keep the same type of music as well. An issue with newer games is that they focus way to much on orchestras. They're amazing. But some games are just made for rock and metal, like doom.

I played it way back in school a couple of years after it released. Loved every minute of it. And back then, playing games with your friends didn't mean playing online. It meant we'd physically meet up at the house of the guy who had the best console or PC and fire up a game and take turns playing it, seeing who could get past the hard parts. The old school combo mechanic would be interesting to revisit. It felt very smooth and organic compared to the preset finisher animations we have today. And the atmosphere of that game was just brilliant.

    • @RealHegrid
      @RealHegrid 2 роки тому +16

@@lamenamethefirst the combat is something that i really miss nowadays. That sort of sombat system, the flow of the combos, the amount of moves . It was crazy .way ahead of its time. The semi open world was great, even though it was fairly linear in progression. The secrets were great. The dahaka was such a well made enemy in the game. Every single chase scene was so scary and it was really satisfying to pull of the escapes. I played it back on the ps2 when it came out. And it blew my mind. I kept revisiting the game every year or so and then playing it on pc and psp when i got those. And it never ceased to amaze me. It was fun throughout and i think it holds up very well. Infact the whole trilogy holds up really really well. I could easily recommend it to a new gamer and they would most likely enjoy it.

To this day I still remember that moment towards the end of TTT where, after the Prince's father dies and he starts freaking out about what to do and Farah and all that and thinks that maybe if he recovers the sands he can time travel again like in WW
And then the Dark Prince drops the bomb: AND THEN WHAT? and basically goes through every single mistake the Prince made since the first game, how he kept abusing the sands to "fix" the problems, HIS problems and ended up causing more, bigger problems to himself and others to the point he's essentially at the same place he was during the first game, the vizier is in control and kidnapped Farah and he's messing with powers beyond his comprehension.
And the Prince actually acknowledges this and how he has been acting like a kid running away from the consequences of his own actions and swears to not depend on the sands ever again

20:25 I think the reason of why Two Thrones wasn't that well received was because of it's prototype, Prince of Persia: Kindred Blades which was gonna be an open world game that kept Warrior Within's edge and it also had the Dark Prince but you could transform into him on command (by walking to fire sources as opposed to the healing water ones) and he had no time limit and apparently the ending of the game depended on which character you spent most time playing with, there's even a demo so they went pretty far with the initial idea.
The issue is that while the game eventually switched directions into a more linear Sands of time experience the marketing didn't, almost all press for the game was based on Kindred Blades (Like trailers showing the Prince saving civilians from monsters, and pouring fire to turn into the Dark Prince) so when the final game came out it didn't resembled the marketing material and people felt kinda cheated.

    • @Xfushion2
      @Xfushion2 2 роки тому +31

I was also confused when Two Thrones came out and it was vastly different from all the trailers promoting it, while I did ended up enjoying the game the aspect that I was dissapointed by the most was the Dark Prince, the guy is fun to play as but it's restricted to very short sequences and they are few and far between, maybe keeping the original idea of turning into him on command wouldn't have worked on a linear game but they should have found a way to have him around longer.
Warrior Within is also my favorite, sure is edgy as hell but since I'm into heavy metal bands the soundtrack and the mood didn't bother me at all and not accounting that I feel that the level design in that game was the best of the three.

I mean Two Thrones is not bad as per say. it's just Warrior Within is more interesting, it's open ended level design and it's bold cleverly put together story (which for the record, today's 90% developers don't have the balls to create a smart edgy story like that). was just too much for it to surpass. maybe if Ubisoft had not abandoned the original Kindred Blades concept

    • @விஷ்ணு_கார்த்திக்
      @விஷ்ணு_கார்த்திக் 2 роки тому +12

@@v-trigger6137 The biggest issue with two thrones IMO is the dark prince and how he got replaced by vizier. From the ending of Warrior Within, it was clear that Dark Prince was the true villian. Two Thrones cut him down to an annoying voice in the head, even when Prince transforms the Dark Prince has no control of the Body or the Mind.

    Interesting Trivia bit.
In Russian dub they never changed Prince's VA - they simply recorded lines for Warrior Within in the morning while VA's voice was coarse due to him being forced into heavy drinking on the night before the recording session.
Man suffered for the sake of art! But myths and legends of crazy Russian dubs aside - having one consistent VA really helped to sell Prince's journey from young and naive man to weary and hardened warrior.

Even if it was a mace.
Kinda funny that you missed wall jump attack in first game and silent choke move in second both mechanics they expanded upon in next respective games.

It's because of this trilogy that I realized video games can have such engaging stories with fun gameplay. True there's jank, but as long as it doesn't make the game unplayable, I can live with it. Warrior Within is my personal favorite as I've played it countless times, but the glitchy stuff you showed off just adds to said experience.
One particular glitch happened when I played the Xbox version. I got the life upgrade from the bottom of the main hall, where you move the lever to access the towers, and came back to see... nothing. I shit you not, the hall's layout didn't load in, leaving it just a black abyss. Funny enough, the hitboxes were still there, so I was able to have the Prince stand over said abyss.
Thankfully, all I had to do was exit the hall and come back to load the place back in. But yeah, I don't know what they did with Warrior Within, but that game is not stable sometimes. I played the PS2, GameCube, Xbox, and PS3 ports that had their own glitches, but that was the most memorable one I can recall.

Warrior Within was the best PoP game. The combat, Animation, the cloth physics of WW blew my mind the first time I played it. The story was interesting and fresh, Dahaka was an amazingly terrifying enemy that I loved to hate and both endings were awesome. and that Shahdee CG at the start of the game, got me in trouble!
PoP1 was alright, It was pretty interesting but everything it did was drastically improved in PoP2.
PoP3 was just a cash grab, I don't care how much you wanna praise it, but when the 3rd game looks like a downgrade even compared to the first game, it means something. PoP3 didn't add or improve anything to the series and the things it did were all downgrades or half-assed. the stealth was god-awful and the bosses were a design nightmare! even compared to the newer reboots of the series, PoP3 is still my least favorite PoP game.

I owe so much to Prince of Persia. Not only as a foundational piece of my childhood as a solid platformer, but for introducing me to the middle-east's past and making me want to understand a lot of the setting. It opened up this whole world to me of the ancient Persian/Iranian empires and made me fascinated with that vibe I couldn't explain. also it conditioned me to basically release a hit of dopamine every time I hear Yuri Lowenthall (the Prince in 1 & 3)'s voice.

WW: if it's unblockable, it's dodgeable.
(Shadi's double sword impale, the griffin's dark pulse)
And did you know the charged sandblast works amazingly against the Griffin?
It's not a slow clunky fight when you know that, and the Sand Wraith is built to dish out that attack often.
Warrior Within is fair in every combat scenario and trap puzzle with only one outlier: the Empress might teleport while you hang from the ledge, and you can't finish the fight to get the crappy ending (but you should be fighting the Dahaka instead)

So like most "journalists" you admit that you have a short attention span and dunk on PoP WW because of that(and it being the band wagon, so to speak). Jerk on it for all you want, it had the best combat system created to this day, and the soundtrack, it being a masterpiece of rock with oriental influences(tattooing Godsmack's signature style to it, courtesy of some talented people like Inon Zur and Stuart Chatwood). It not having the HAM acting from the first one(with a britt-ish accent) and a more fitting tone for the story was an appropriate move, shame shallow critics couldn't see past their own biases, but that why there are two review categories on Rotten Tomatoes.

SOT is my 2nd and I don't like 3rd one, too many quick time events. The ww world somehow felt alive it opened up and when going back to the initial levels makes it feels like it doesn't just exist for us, instead we are just passing through. The Sand wraith mode was fun. SOT was great and WW feels like they built on top of it and the 3rd one felt kinda bad, it had good parts but it feels unfinished sometimes. WW is the only remaster i look forward to but the 3rd one has the most potential to improve.

This whole trilogy needs to be viewed as a journey. SoT was Prince making a mistake due to immaturity and then quickly trying to fix it, WW was him having to suffer the lasting consequences of his mistake and becoming more jaded as a result, and TT was him coming to terms with the fact that he can't just fix everything and you can't run away from your mistakes, which is when he really conquered the darkness that has been in him since WW.
So in a way you can see Prince going from Young and Hopeful, to Mature and Jaded, to Mature and Hopeful.
You can say you don't like the edginess of WW and that's okay, but you need to understand why it was needed to the story.

"The Two Thrones" would've been the fan favorite ... if it would've stuck to the original concept of "Kindred Blades". KB had THE PERFECT blend from what we were shown from E3 footage and behind the scenes. But the vocal majority of SoT fans made themselves heard ... so-much-so that UbiSoft scrapped KB and redid it into the severely underwhelming SoT redo of T2T. Side-by-side, SoT and T2T is just ... SoT but with better combat. So the hard core fans ( Not the tone deaf, Arabian Nights kinda folks ) agree that the high point was at WW. And rightfully so, because it has enough edge and maturity but still keeps what's good of the setting and aesthetic while making it grittier. Try being chased by an unstoppable beast for more than a year, see how fun that feels, if you don't become edgy, you probably end up six feet under. Ain't no "Merry go happy" moments in that situation, so WW style choice makes sense, and it is well explained too. KB would've taken that title strictly because it would've taken what WW established and ironed out the kinks while still holding both sides of the fanbase ... instead UbiSoft thought "WW didn't do well on money but SoT did ... people are talking so let's do a 180 instead of mixing them."
Apologies for the long comment but I just had to. Much love and stay safe, folks!

I didn't trigger the cutscene or know that it existed, so I was just running around this level confused as shit til I fell off something and died. When I came back, I respawned as a floating head with my sword and dagger. I popped a VHS into my TV (yeah, I'm fuckin' old), and recorded the glitch to keep. Then I died and respawned as the prince in his sand form or whatever, which I had not seen in the game, so that was jarring and most deffinatly recorded on that VHS, as well. Good times.

WW for me is the best simply because the Prince is a hardened warrior and he became that way because he's been dodging the Dahaka for seven years. I think Ubisoft should have had some content where they show some flashback to how the Dahaka appeared for the first time and how the Prince has scavenged the world at sea (Dahaka cannot handle water) just to stay alive and make it to the island of time. Initially the Old Man was supposed to be a narrator throughout the story but I really think that they wanted to make the game more hardcore and that narration wouldn't ft in to the aesthetic of the warrior-esque Prince with heavy metal music from Stuart Chatwood and Godsmack in the background. Prince evolved from a young teenager to a hardened warrior in WW and this game is a masterpiece. I hope they remake the trilogy 🙏

Correction to the SoT combat sequence. You CAN interact with the environment. Through a combo of actions you can propel yourself off the wall and either attac with the dagger or sword. Don't ask me the combo though I played these when I was 14

Everyone's gangster till you play Warrior Within on hard mode. That's some Dark Souls shit right there.

I played Prince of Persia sands of time , it’s a good game all tho it does need some improvements, I started playing warriors within and I was disappointed, this game has a lack of puzzles solving compared to the first game , the 2nd game does have the great platforming and action from the first game but where the hell are the puzzles in the game !!!!?????? It focuses too much on action and platforming but without the puzzle solving mixed into it. Like the first game had a focus on platforming, action and puzzles solving but now it seems like the 2nd game abandons puzzle solving. This made me drop the game , like if ur going to try to improve from the first game then why drop a very fun gameplay element that might make me like this game less than the first game???? So I’m just wondering if warriors within is still worth continuing playing the game , like does it get better , will have it puzzles later on or do I have accept this new gameplay style??

Skill issue with the Dahaka. I too got my ass handed to me by the bosses but the Dahaka chases were easy, I mean you do have rewind powers. My favorite sequence in the trilogy is still the part in WW where you have to complete a puzzle by going through three consecutive chases. Hearing Godsmack while parkouring for your life tickles a certain spot in my brain.

Hope you cover the Wii version of forgotten sands along with the HD one.
It has an interesting history and it’s a completely different game

15:35 IIRC, you could attack in that manner kicking the wall in the original PoP Sands of Time as well.

also jump over sweeping attacks, counterattack, pretty sure roll attacking was a thing. Lots of options and room for creativity - just using the jump-over-and-slash thing will get you combo'd to death eventually in SoT

And then the big sandzombie hit me square in the chest with his big glaive, throwing me against the wall where a big sawblade cut me deep before i fell down into an abyss filled with snakes.
    Waaaait, thats not what happened.
No yea i remember now. First the Sandzombie tried to hit me with his big glaive, but i was cunning to his trickery, so i ran across his face, flipped over his back, and just as i was about to land a devastating blow, i got caught in the big sawblade that cut me deap and i fell down into an abyss filled with snakes.
No, thats not how it happened.
Also, is it just me, or was the castle in the first game designed by Bloody Stupid Johnsson as a meat packaging plant, or a massage parlor?
Like who puts that many stupid stupid traps in their own cellar? Who does that, but a man who thinks "well, these spinny poles with blades all over will neatly catch your clothes, and then carry you effortlessly across the corridor so you dont have to walk."

I think you didnt reach sands of time's advanced moves. They show up in one subtitled tutorial once and are easy to miss. There are wall torpedoes, wall vaults, vault dagger strikes, stun dagger strikes, parry dagger consumes and other parry moves. The enemies have their own immunities to certain moves but you can get through the whole game mashing square which leads people to completely missing half the combat moves like I did in my first few playthroughs.
If an enemy is one sword strike from being down you can vault dagger to get an immediate consume instead of downing them. In the air you avoid the ai attacking you so its best to use the advanced moves to deal all of your final dagger blows instead of consuming their sands when they are down.
Also you dont have to swivle slowly on colums, you can quick jump to the next pillar with the jump button and the direction input immediately after landing
I really wish the game was harder because then you'd be forced to discover the advanced moves. You straight up claimed that warrior within was the first game where you could use the walls in combat...
