I would say don't discourage her. If she wants to go, let her go. If she goes and decides that is not what she wants, let her come home and figure out the next steps. Nothing beats a quitter but a try. So, let her go and spread her wings in this world.

I went to college, joined the military as an Officer, did 18 yrs, medically retired, went back to school and got 2 Masters and I work for the Air Force. I would say she needed to go to a Performing Arts high school but if that didn't happen she needs to go to a Performing Arts college if what she wants to do falls in line with that

I was an academic advisor/counselor in high education for over a decade and agree with this. Most of the internships and other professional development opportunities he discussed are going to be reserved for BA/BFA/MFA students, especially those at the top schools, because the pursuit of their degree is interpreted by those in those industries as a dedication to learning their craft.
In my experience, once students understand the relationship between a college degree and their chosen industry, getting a degree can be very worthwhile for their career longevity, especially if they ever need to make a career pivot.

Concerning your daughter and college, I would support her going to college. You don't want her to have regrets. This is the future she sees for herself. Let her pursue it. In addition, encourage her to get internships and job experience. That's important too.

College is great for learning critical thinking skills, analytical skills, writing skills, time management and other valuable life skills, even if you’re not sure about your career direction yet.

College is not a scam. You need to google the definition of scam. You can go to college for free if she goes to junior college first.

About your daughter...and this is all love....IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU!!!!! She has to go through her stuff and you as Father have to support her, even if you are strongly against it. The more you push against her, the more she will pull away from you, not feel comfortable talking to you about anything that is important to her, trust me. It took me and my Dad YEEEEAAAARRSSS to build the bridge back...now he's gone...don't let your way of thinking and expecting her to just follow it deter your relationship. What's more important, your opinion or your daughter trust and love of YOU? FYI, I feel the same way about college.

Understand brother this could be her path to find out who she really is. The beginning of the story never looks pretty and it’s never a straight line. Allow her to grow because I guarantee you regardless if you end up being right or wrong you supporting her will give her the light she needs to succeed anywhere. But if you deny her that while she sees you helping the world… that’s definitely gonna be something she’s gonna hold on to and possibly despise you for allow her to be proven wrong and allow yourself to be proven wrong, that’s your daughter if you gonna sacrifice anything or take any hit for it’s for her. Just let her know what you demand from her in return on this college thing. Ex she wants to do art give her a deadline for an outside project that resembles real world situations that she may find herself in, so even though she’s in college your still feeding her the knowledge you want her to have. I believe college is a scam to but I’m also happy abt the experiences I had in college, they attributed to who I am

It’s really bothering you, because deep inside you know you’re not supporting her. It’s not about you it’s about her doing what she wants to do. She didn’t say she wants to get on the pole. As her dad you influenced her as she grew up. That’ll come in effect with her as she lives her life believe me. You gotta let her go to make up her own mind and learn from any mistakes that result. You’re really being overbearing and too agressive with her. She may even be the type that’ll do it just because of how strong your feelings that are not aligned with hers are on it. Just relax, support her and respect her choices. As her dad you always want your daughter to feel comfortable coming to dad for advice in life, career, men, etc. Don’t make her shut you out.

I remember seeing your kids as babies so to see them on their way to (maybe) college is crazy .. but if you want my opinion I think it’s a good idea to let your daughter go to college if that’s what she wants. Your opinions and apprehensions are your own, if she has an idea she wants to chase you should encourage it and listen, not all support has to be financially

Your gut instincts are right. College is just gonna scar her financially and emotionally. She needs to be with people she loves and people protecting her. She can learn everything online from better sources then college. College can ruin the values you instilled in her. Let me explain whatever the agenda that college pushes it will seed in her mind and if it’s that toxic feminism thing good luck dealing with that. Most girls do college for the social experience and to say they have a degree but never learn a high paying skill. Ambitious young women in the end would rather build a family then career they just get confused/guilt trip to go ‘live their life’ when 8/10 would feel more alive / accomplished building their own great family with a respected successful man.

Here my POV about college..It is a choice, and you don’t have to incur a bunch of debt if you are properly prepared…go,to,the school you/ family can afford…that’s why getting good grades to obtain scholarships is important..
Go to the school that offers the most money, or the school that will cost the least..Go to a school in the same state u live and it will cost you less…
It’s that simple we tend to want / do things we can’t afford..
Most people with college degrees are not broke, and most millionaires do attend higher education..referring to the outliers is a stupid approach or statement to make.
All these content creators / UA-camrs tell you people to do the things they can’t or haven’t done.. where would these people be without the YT platform. Lets see them survive or be successful without YT.
Most people that criticize education or the ones that don’t have or can’t complete a educational program..smh

I think it would be best if you supported your daughter, even given your strong opinions on college. Talk to an advisor about how her education can be paid for. She may be able to work it so that she has scholarships and grants to pay for most of it. Try junior college first so she can feel her way out and work her way to a 4 yr if she still wants to. It's way more affordable that way.
Let her explore & find her own way, like you did. ❤

I agree with this take on college. We're in the same age group though. Some things we had to learn on our own and as a young woman she probably wants to make her own path her way. It's on your dime cause you're dad tho... I'd look at it as an investment in her future. You gave your options and it's up to her to choose bro.

College is great BUT the way we finance college is not. The price of college is higher than ever before and student debt is at an all time high. I watched a documentary about students taking on $100,000s worth of debt and in debt for a majority of their lives. If she can, I would go to cheaper colleges like community college etc. I have one friend whos in $60k debt which she will probably make $50k coming out of college

    • @JesseWestie
