I like how you review other people's portfolio, I mean constructive feedback and don't put other people down while also never hide good impressions! good luck man ...
This is a REAL review. The most concise and critical review, not just reacting 'wow! I like this' to everything like every other youtuber. Much appreciated.
Ah snap Darian I never actually commented here! Thank you for doing this and reviewing my portfolio. I've been working about 9 months now and I finally updated my stanky-ass contact form. By the way, the reason the Expenses App isn't hosted is because it's an Electron app, not a web app. I got stuck when trying to build the app into a downloadable package, and never got back around to that since I'm not job searching now and the project is dated - maybe one day! I feel super gratified by your comments! A lot of work went into all this stuff. Hope your girlfriend's job search went well and if she did find a job using Javascript Jobs USA that'd be pretty sick.
@@peteryoung4705 Thanks. During the pandemic I was unemployed, so I did 3 months of full-time learning, then a 4-month bootcamp. Flexbox and responsive design might have been the most impactful skills I learned that helped me build a good looking UI. I liked flexbox zombies for that.
Thanks a lot for the review I really appreciate it... Managed to land a job... I worked tirelessly on my portfolio for 3 days, and just felt lazy to fix some of the issues. Thank you for highlighting them.
I really like the way you review these. As a high schooler just starting out you pointed out a lot of improvements I can apply to my own portfolio, and your insight is helpful. Thanks brother
This stuff is great, I'm really glad I found your channel. I recently got my first full-time full-stack job (been working as a part-time developer while finishing University), and this is a great way to see what people are looking for in portfolios and projects. Thanks so much for this. I'm struggling to find a job after almost a year long work gap, and looking for eays to make my portfolio stand out. This was really helpful, thank you!
Wait.. People are using something like Wix to build a site and then adding it to their resume as if they built it? I'm confused... I'm still a 1st-year student but I would assume if it's on your resume, that you build it from scratch?
I thought the same. ;) Maybe building your own projects is more important than a portfolio website. Sometimes people put their own portfolio website like some independent project. I'm confused.

After completing a Diploma in Web development and Design last year, watching this video makes me realise how screwed I am. What a worthless course that taught me virtually nothing.
Awesome video! As someone who's just starting out, your videos are super informative and have really helped me get a grasp on what I should aim to learn and create. Many "Do's & Dont's" gems in here. Maybe one day you'll review something of mine! Liked and Subbed. Thanks again Darian! :)
The more you do it the more you roll the dice. But the truth is that people looking at your portfolio that are gonna pay you probably aren’t gonna notice.
@@DarianSampare I wouldn't be so sure about that. The people skimming portfolios are more likely than ANYONE to notice, you think someone who views 20+ portfolios per day won't notice when 2 look identical? you noticed the reactive poligon background that 2 portfolios shared in this one video alone
I just started a web developer bootcamp and so far only touched html and css and so much to learn. My question is if i wanna focus on front end or full stack. I dont have a degree and really have a passion to learn coding. I dont wanna learn too many different things otherswise i feel like i wouldnt have went deep enough on any. My plan so far is html/Css/Javascript/React in that order. After the bootcamp go deeper on react. Let me know your opinion , im not in a rush to learn and get a job but i wanna be efficient and learn the right way and hopefully in 12 months or so be confident enough to apply for a job
@@DarianSampare sry I mean't like when you click it, it scrolls to the area you want. Like your portfolio you showed like when you click something in the nav it scrolls down to area you want them to see. Was trying to do that.
I dont know many, i recognized that codependent background template (with the hover effects) as being reused code years ago before i even started doing frontend or coded seriously. I am pretty sure a hiring manager would notice right away and it could give them a bad impression of you right off the bat. They might not care, but its just not worth it in my opiniom to use a tacky design and risk it.

250$ cheap?!? Welp guess this is what I’m gnna do now coding is my life so why not make a living off it I was expecting a website to be like 100$ tops or some guess I’m way off
@@yawshee1427 not really. Think about it, many people don't know how, and it will be used to generate profit more likely than not. A dev has to design it, get features working, revise them if the client wants different stuff done, and more. And it has to look nice, run efficiently, and optimized. Even web builders like wix for example can charge a good amount tho I'd say less. $400 if someone wants to pay someone.
