Thank you for the site review Alex, I'll be making some changes for sure!
Some background on the site:
The site is designed by NevFlynn and I built it from scratch in vanilla JS. I set out to build a personal site/portfolio 2 months into learning how to code. At the time I didn't have any projects I wanted to showcase, so I decided to focus on building widgets around my personality and hobbies (with the overall site demonstrating my coding abilities), and to add project widgets/blog posts etc over time.
I haven't actually updated the site since February haha, but I'll get on that - especially as my job hunt intensifies!
Your website is sick
mate, are the courses you listed on your roadmap the only ones you've taken?
More of these, please! Thanks so much!
Wow, this was refreshing! I thought this would be just an ordinary portfolio review video, but you really tried to give a lot of value here - I appreciate that! Your optimism is also very nice to see. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
This comment made my day Gerson, thank you 🙏🏻
Jacob could write "I design, develop, and analyze data" if he's not keen on ditching the "D-D-D." Just my take as a copywriter-turned-web developer! Great video
Develop data it seems, which he doesn't mean. It will make him see to know data engineering, which he might not be knowing
@@allyouneedispresenthere3312 There should be continuity between the verb-noun pairs to minimize confusion, I agree.
That is a brilliant suggestion. By the way, I'm recruiting some freelance writers for the Scrimba blog next week in case you're interested! Keep an eye on the Scrimba Twitter or message me there
Hi Alex, Thank for giving useful portfolios examples. I see Chinh invest buying couples of domains for her live project demo. Is there any affordable or free options hosting to host a live project?
Downunder, but it could be a really cool play on words, since the DOW change to DOM and she's rendered them onto the DOM!
I loved this video. I found it very useful!
Great tips. Thank you!
4:58 As a fresher, I haven't worked with anyone so far; which project should I add now to my portfolio?
That ios design , I'm inspired.
Amazing tips!
This was very helpful! Thank you
Anytime! What was your main take-away?
Wow, while not perfect, they all still put mine to shame! I've got some work to do. Good chat
Hopefully they inspire you!
11:50 There are several different node packages available that generate QR codes from a string source. It's nearly trivial to do this.
yes alex I have been coding for about 4 months now even though i'm not ready for junior job can you keep making this? maybe i'll submit my portfolio in the next 6 months
Yes, definitely!
For the first one, for most I'd say the city "Sydney" gives away immediately that it is Australia, but being from "Down Under" myself I even found it incredibly hard catch what it said. Took me a few seconds - which a potential employer won't want to work out. It's cool, but would definitely change it for a portfolio.
It took me longer than I care to admit but I'm still not sure if I was being dense 😄
Would be cool if the letters flipped over on hover.
Very useful thx
if Jacob doesn't implement your copy immediately, he's missing out on a fantastic value proposition!
He mentioned to me on Twitter he'll use it or at least adapt it 😄
apple gotta hire Ryan rn
yeah, I was trying to read "downunder" backwards until I realised what it was :D
Sydney was a good clue but I am too slow 😄!
The word says "Downunder"! pretty cool, tho it took me a few seconds.
Ah, glad you got it! I am quite intrigued as to what everyone will comment to be honest!
Maybe I am just dense 😄
can we do a tutorial on ryan's site?
I will let Ryan know on Twitter you asked! Maybe he will respond
@@bookercodes thank you so much! Love the channel (:
@@Rantalytics I should be able to sort that out for you over the next month or so!
@@ryanregiste9449 you guys are awesome. seriously thank you so much
im making one rn maybe it will be done and ill post it if you do more
Go for it!
"Junior Web Developer" -> "I teach design, code, and analyze great chunks of data"? Yeah right.
That word is DOWN UNDER - I.e. Australia I got it first time
I have no Web Design knowledge, and my Designs are just awful. Why does a Web Developer Junior have to have such unbelivable good looking designs? How can I get a job without Designing beautiful Designs but having good knowledge in programing?
Exactly! this is crazy! The amount of things the third ryan guy knows should no way be ever required for a junior dev job. It's crazy!
bro looks like leonard from the big bang theory...fr
I got DOWNUNDER ☝️
Maybe it is just me 😄
it's down under upside-down
If you're still a jr web developer after 5 years... I think you're doing something wrong.
