I thank Antonio C Jobim , S. Mendes, Joao and Astrud Gilberto and all others who left this legacy for Humanity to enjoy and share. And to this quintet too, of course. Thanks , and the Gods Bless.
I am Brazilian. The work these young singers are showing is astounding.T his singer captures the very essence of this song, and she demonstrates this in the timbre, body movement, choice of tone, in every detail. Desafinado is a prank, sort of. Tom Jobim, one of the persons least out of tune on the planet, sings a song about a poor out-of-tune soul, who begs to be respected because "even an out-of-tune being does have a heart". Or "I photographed you with my Rolleiflex, and what we could see was your absolute ingratitude". It is humor at its best, and she gets it, and sings it. In bossa nova, the language, the sweet Brazilian Portuguese version of our common language, (Portugal´s Portuguese is beautiful in a very, very different way, and it would never work in bossa nova because bossa nova is all about joie de vivre, something our Portuguese brothers and sisters have less training for) IS part of the music. Our syllables are notes, and it really does not work in any other language, and that is why they go through the effort of singing in ours. Well, I would say the result is adorable, and it adds to our comprehension of our language. I love their interpretation of our consonants, and an surprised that our nasals, "ão" sounds present such a barrier to speakers of Catalan, or Spanish. And this means absolutely nothing, compared to the result they get. It is the song, in its intention, and brilliantly executed. I am Sprachloss!!!
I don't get it. I'm 72-years old, and I just can't fathom where these young performers get this kind of talent... their degree of technique, their depth of feeling, and to so easily keep up with these world-class players, it's just beyond my imagination. When I was a teenager, I was getting busted by the cops for being high on LSD. In the city where I live, rap music is king, but it is just pathetic garbage being sold as "music." It isn't. THIS is music. When I die, I can rest easy, knowing that music is in good hands.
There are thousands of enchanting kingdoms of talents hidden here on YT , which you never saw and will never see . Just live with it. I also came along here by chance ...
Rita Payes has unbelievable talent. She was only about 15 years old here. And look at Joan Chamorro in the background. He is glowing with pride in his students who reflect all the love and care he has obviously given to them. Gives me hope that there is still good in the world. Thank you.
I am Japanese. While searching for Someday My Prince Will Come on youtube, I encountered Joan Chamorro quintet. I like JAZZ but it became comfortable as soon as I heard it. Today was a very good day.
Nice comment um. They have given a lot of people hours of good listening and watching of great music and performances. Good you found them, all the best to you and many more Good Days.
May be next year? I have been playing bossa nova for fourty years now and it is not getting boring at all. Thanx a lot dear Rita..........

This is a killer rendition. Rita is so rhythmically inventive, breathing new life into something in danger of becoming a musical cliche, and as only a young new musical soul can. Props to Joan Chamorro for being a serial nurturer of young jazz talent, first with Andrea Motis (see her admirable Desafinado when she was Rita's age, classic, mature), then Rita and a string of others after. Props also to Scott Hamilton, clearly having a great time, and causing Joan to call out appreciatively in the middle of his solo. Rita's career starts on a high here and just goes up.
What to say? Magnificent. Six years on the music and the performance does not diminish with time. These musicians and their performances are surviving the test of time. They absolutely deserve to
Sou brasileiro e 69 anos A interpretação é singular, porque a cantora da a voz a particularidade do sentido da palavra. Ela interpreta como se fosse brasileira nata. Fantástico.

This was my introduction to Joan Chamorro's world of amazing young musicians, several years back. and I came across it again tonight. Still sounds great. Amazing how far many of them have come.
I was listening to Astrid Gilberto singing Girl from Ipamena, on you tube. I turned away for a little while and the Astrid track finished and a new track began and I thought Oh another Astrid song but when I turned to check and it was Joan Chamorro and another of his proteges, Rita Payes. That's praise indeed!!!
86 dislikes? These are amazing musicians with real soul and talent. How can anyone not be moved by this? I found this band by accident and so glad I did. Jazz is alive and well in Catalonia. Praise be ...
Tom Jobim would be so proud! as a Brazilian, i'm also so proud of this version! amazing! her accent brings a colorful plus! it s so beautiful the whole band! congratulations great musicians!
Very well played guys. Rita is, like Andrea and Alba, a great performer with a special talent. And last but not least, i love your happy face when you are playing Joan.
This is the best version of this song in existence. Everybody is at the top of their game. The swingy bossa nova beat by Esteve Pi is amazing. The lyrics to the song mention "swinging the bossa nova". And the rest of the rhythm section is solid as can be. Cannot say enough about each player! Add the great solos by Scott and Andrea... Then the amazing interpretation by Rita on vocals. She hangs back on the beat giving it an other worldly relaxed feel, but never draggy. And then the recording is so crisp. You can hear every single instrument. The sound people did a great job as well. I can listen this over and over and over. The chords to the bridge seem correct to me. Some Americanized versions have wrong chords, plus some (original Real Book 1) are missing 4 entire measures of the bridge! But this! Wow! Everything so perfect! What a great interpretation!!!
How can she be THAT BRILLIANT? There is no doubt that she has an unfair ammount of talent and I bet there is also a ton of hard work involved. Yet she makes it feel so effortless. It's like jazz is flowing in her veins. I don't speak the language of the song yet I feel like I understand the whole meaning. She speaks the most beautifull language of all - the music - that good that even I can understand it.
A lovely & unique version of Desafinado - so beautiful. Excellent musicianship & very tight group. Rita has Bossa nova & Jazz in her soul...and in her genetics! Both of her parents are musicians. She is only 14 years old in this video - an incredible talent with a bright future ahead. 💕

Listening while I work quietly inside today. Great number, love it. Hope Scott is doing well, a greeting from a senior carpenter to a senior musician. Joan and band and guests, a very good year to all. Wish I had some of Spain's recent snow. This old guy loves to cross country ski and believe it or not - love to shovel snow! Great workout in the cold beautiful white winter.
Bossa nova is fenomenal style from Brazil, saks, and other instruments are excelent, I adore such music, I come from Croatia, my father was musician, and I learned with him many good vibrations.

How could Brazil stray from the most beautiful music the world ever knew? Replacing it with a hard cold beat that makes noone happy. Their president hardly acknowledged the great Joao Gilberto when he died. The whole country should be in mourning and the music should be heard everywhere. Thanks go to these amazingly talented young people from Barcelona keeping the flame
I love how Joan Chamorro constantly checks up on comments on all his videos , thank you for being there and for blessing us with such beautiful music Mr.Chamorro, lots of love from Chicago !
Oh my GOD, this song is, really sultry my, my, I can't understand yet, I somehow can, if that makes sense. You guys are the future of jazz I can't stop now that I've found you-all Hats off LADY'S YOUR ALL WONDERFUL.
I've known this composition some 60 years now. I am always curious what artists make of it. Rita does a excellent job, she has an infallible swinging timing, perfectly fit for Brazilian music. Compliments for all participants, respect and admiration from Holland.
I hope Rita reads the messages here praising her singing because she deserves them all. Rita, you can caress a jazz theme with your voice in a way akin to all the best female vocalists. And you're an accomplished trombonist. You should understand that there are good reasons why you can attract over 400,000 hits for one track alone!.
Capital Federal -Argentna 22/6/2020
How wonderful to see the way ALL of these gifted musicians support each other and all thoroughly enjoy each other’s solos etc. Smiles all around. Especially from me! 👍🎼🎷
Fabulous performance by Rita. I've heard "Desafinado" thousands of times, but Rita puts an amazing spin on the delivery of "o que Deus me deu" that is rhythmically unique. Great work, young lady. And Scott is fantastic, getting a lot of 21st Century exposure from Joan and company.
I do not understand too much of the jazz rhythm, but I heard this interpretation of on-trend by this group of musicians and I must say that I loved it. This band turned out to be "a gentle breeze that refreshes the soul". Congratulations and my cordial greeting from Bs.As. Federal Capital -Argentna 06/22/2020

Well said.
My favorite rendition of this wonderful song!

May be next year? I have been playing bossa nova for fourty years now and it is not getting boring at all. Thanx a lot dear Rita..........
I would have liked to see the old gang perform in Toronto, but because of this virus and others to come, it may never be a reality.
I believe Rita was 14 when this was recorded. Amazing!
WHY, OH WHY have I not heard of this group before? My life was wasted.
William Simmons ahah that ‘s exactly what i said..
That's exactly how I felt haha
But you now have a lot of wonderful catching up to do.
Rita's voice is so fresh and confident, the best cover ever! (I still listen almost daily). Still can't believe she was around 14 years old at that time
This is a killer rendition. Rita is so rhythmically inventive, breathing new life into something in danger of becoming a musical cliche, and as only a young new musical soul can. Props to Joan Chamorro for being a serial nurturer of young jazz talent, first with Andrea Motis (see her admirable Desafinado when she was Rita's age, classic, mature), then Rita and a string of others after. beautiful!
She puts more emotion into the lyrics than Joao Gilberto/Stan Getz version. Rarely do I enjoy a remake over the original, I do in this case.

Scott Hamilton invariably delivers such beautiful solos!

Joan Chamorro & Rita Payes & the Musicians are Totally Awesome!
❤ Big fan here, Rita! Thanks for keeping jazz alive and well!
Holy smoke. She cut thru that like a razor. Nice combo too.
I've probably listed to this 30-40 times

Rita Has A Strong Voice Loaded With Octaves.
Gilberto morreu? Sabia nao. Que tristeza.
Exactly, and unfortunately most people these days only listen to sertanejo and carioca funk.
I agree totaly. Congratilations.
Rita presents music candy to my ears. So sexy! No clue what she is singing. Beautiful. Beautiful! Thank you so much!!
Andrea did an English-language rendition.
Oh to see this live, Mr.Joan Chamorro, wonderful are the things you can with music
Such a beautiful language which, lends itself to jazz effortlessly .
I've known this composition some 60 years now. I am always curious what artists make of it. Rita does a excellent job, she has an infallible swinging timing, perfectly fit for Brazilian music. Compliments for all participants, respect and admiration from Holland.
Wonderful Rita.., and also all the group member. Thanks.
Rita, i’m a fan. You sound so good, i feel so relaxed listening to your voice. Band is awesome! Thanks a lot! Enjoyed it. 👍🏻🎷🎹😍🎻🎺👌🏻
Wow! I could listen to this endlessly, and to think these are still teenagers. Many thanks to the adults for mentoring these amazing young musicians.
IGNASI TERRAZO IS A REMARKABLE PIANO PLAYER. HE NEVER MISSES A KEY AND KEEPS THE TIMING PERFECTLY. I LOVE HIS MUSIC . SYLVIA! FL 6/2/2020

This is so good that sometimes I applaud my computer screen, even tho there is no one to hear. Wonderful performance !
:-)
Me too!!
Yup... 👏
Classically beautiful
HELP!!! my ears, heart and soul are being held captive by this group
Super RITA !!,,,Besito
Rita Certainly Is A "Little Kiss" Hermosa
Her voice adds an oomph to the song.
Capital Federal -Argentna 22/6/2020

How wonderful to see the way ALL of these gifted musicians support each other and all thoroughly enjoy each other’s solos etc. Smiles all around. Especially from me! 👍🎼🎷
You can already hear the character and quality of fourteen year old Rita's voice! It has only gotten better over time!
Ray Valencia, so Rita is only 14 years old? That`s Incredibly Amazing! Her voice is So Awesome!
JUST BEAUTIFUL¡¡¡¡THANKS YOU TUBE YOU ARE SAVING LIVES ¡¡¡¡¡
Greetings from the Island Republic of Mauritius, in the South of the Indian Ocean, superb music. Thank you all. Gods Bless.
What a great group of artists and great recording. Howard, Nashville, TN
Rita Loves The Applause, And She's Entitled to It, They All Are.
Maravilhoso!
Me encanta esa música. Gracias. Saludos desde Guadalajara (México)
There is hope for good popular music when this group and Rita's singing gets over 2.5 million hits
