I haven't even touched my fiddle yet and i can already hear it working...this is a very good tip. Why didn't I ever think about this before? I think i have always just gone from case to case without looking for a rule. I've always been thinking about chords and arpegios...bits of scales, but no average rule like this. I'm gonna watch this again tomorow.
With a lot of jazz playing you tend to leave out the fourth to avoid that minor 9th sound, I wonder if this is the fiddle equivalent! That being said, I am unsure why the 7th is excluded on the way down. haha But this totally cool and accurate now that I think about it a little more. haha :D
Depends on what key you're in. That's why I like to use numbers, because they are independent of the key... then when the singer wants to change the key, you're still good to go.
A Pentatonic scale not really so much in the style. It would work, of course. But we usually set up patterns for pentatonic more in Jazz music. This scale really sets you in Bluegrass, adds the color of the 7th and 4th, and enables you to land "on your feet", as it were.
Darol is so insanely good. One of my absolute favorite fiddle players. I've learned so much about playing blues and jazz from him.
yep. I love his homespun blues video. It was like permission to play however the hell i want. Bravo Darol.
In this first vidéo I Watch, I did not find something "insanely good" !!!

Get playing! It's so much fun :)
We play the FIDDLESTICKS all the time at the office - love it!
Awesome scale, thank you!
Same idea in bebop by adding an extra note everything lines up and the chord tones land on the strong beats.
makes sense. I'll give it a try! thanks Darol!
Gonna go practice!
same here!

WoW!!! I didn't know Jeff Goldblum play the fiddle to!
Yeah he does look pretty jewish...
So the blues scale is leaving out the fourth and seventh? And flattening the 3rd, 5th, ?
On my online school, I have a series of Blues Scale lessons. There are different levels to the blues scale

@@darolanger2297 Well, what are the numbers?
@@mikebastiat like he says in the video, it is without the 4 going up, without the 7 coming down :)
@@lalelona So, can you tell me the notes for a given key?
@@mikebastiat what key do you need?
Okay, but why not go full-on pentatonic?
You can always add the odd accidental if you need to.

@@darolanger2297 I love the the question and I love the answer. Well done gentlemen.
Thank you. I had this question too.
