    Just took a good look at that seat. I have a very specific type of spinal damage and the first thing that went through my mind is that it might work for my back.

    If you get things from Amazon, you might score some packing foam that makes great seat cushion material. I did. My seat build just got a little more inexpensive.

    Awesome build! The final assembly at the end of this video got me thinking that this construction design and technique would make an really comfortable rocking chair! LOL!

      You might want to look into laminating corrugated cardboard. I have been playing with the stuff and it looks like one could use it for a rocking chair. It is unbelievably strong. I have been using titebond II but sodium silicate is used to make the cardboard so maybe a better choice for laminating.

    Bloody brilliant Rob. You have a small gap midway under the seat where you can build a secret compartment or use for your fusebox. Love the build and again looking forward to seeing the finished build.

    suggest you attach the seat in an adjustable way. So if someone wants to sit up or lay back more they can. Nice job on the seat.

    Hi Rob, off topic I am afraid but have you considered making your supercapacitors using the paper stick method? I wondering if the battery could also be the frame.

    If you layer up thin ply sheets in that shape with epoxy and put in a vacuum bag you would be able to take away the form peices and it would be super strong .

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  3 роки тому

      Great idea mate - unfortunately the form pieces are needed her to attach it to the bike - but I get what you are saying as a general way to form plywood into complex shapes that's would be a really good move

      @@ThinkingandTinkering same way i made skateboards and kiteboard . Once they have a 3 dimensional curve like a basketball imprint it is amazing string . We used layered newspaper a few times in between but i didnt really acheive any extra strength but increased weight from glue .

    I work with both imperial and metric measurements, but mostly imperial . I saw the drawing of the seat and my immediate thought was “26mm, that’s only an inch wide. That doesn’t seem very comfortable.” 🙂

      If you wrap the seat form RMS has made in plastic you can layup in glass or CF and the result will be much lighter.

    Just in case no one else has said it, leatherette, or indeed any impermeable cover, is a really bad idea for recumbent seat covers, especially if you intend to ride it more than a few minutes. Nearly all practical recumbent seats are either covered in mesh or made of mesh because seat is a big issue when your back is supporting your weight. Don’t get me wrong, recumbents are the only sensible bike really, but the seat as your main interface with the bike needs a bit of thought. Your seat frame and base look good, but you W|LL need ventilation.

      Really valid point I mused on as I watched video. Ponders some holes drilled through foam and seat backing ply then cover with a mesh type breathable covering. Not sure how far to go with the Swiss cheese effect or if backing ply may require a second layer but tons cheaper than a commercial bought seat plus no fun in buying and fitting the joy is in the making.
