  • 2001 Honda CR-V SE in snow. Testing to see how the Realtime 4WD system works. The system does an excellent job on the snow and ice, as soon as the front wheels slip it immediately sends power too the rear wheels. Great small SUV, Go Honda!

It's a trooper! We all wish they had a little more power, but oh well.

not bad for limited offroad and occasional snow use. dumb that they didnt make a manually lockable transfer case though.

I don’t think they know anything about a locking transfer case…

    • @reidthompson8979

They didn’t do that because it would make it a lot heavier. These only weigh 3200 curb with all the goodies. The awd system is compact and robust due to the hydraulically controlled design. No electronics involved.

@@reidthompson8979 id say they could actually save weight with a manually locking clutch instead of a hydrolic actuated one

    • @reidthompson8979

@@shonuffisthemaster a manually locking system would need to be much heavier duty. The rear differential is very small and light as the clutches don’t hold much power. To be able to safely have a manual transfer case it would need a much heavier rear differential, along with a heavier driveshaft and halfshafts. Everything is very small back there, but it’s robust due to the clutch design and the fact that if it overheats it can automatically disengage.

I want a 1st gen crv, because of the AWD and for outdoors activities. It’s cheap, if you can find a good one for 3000 to 2500

    What snow?
Any car with snow tires can get up that incline. It's really not a big deal.
If you are slipping in place - turn off traction control.
If you aren't slipping, leave it on.

    • @wtdash
      @wtdash 4 роки тому +5

Not all vehicles CAN turn it off...including this year of CR-V, nor my Highlander or the RAV4 I had before.

It also handles similar to the CX-5. I would beg my parents to get the CX-5 over the 2012 CR-V, because the new CR-V is a big joke. It has a 2.4 Liter 4-cyl engine, okay good for 0-60 in about 9.5 seconds, but toss it in the corners, and the CR-V has its limits. The materials in the 2012 CR-V lacks some quality. But I'll tell you that the resale value for this one can go up to $9,000 currently.

I presume you're grown up now and can think clearly.
You're complaining about 0-60 in an suv? Who cares....
You're complaining about not being able to toss the crv into the corners?
Go buy a little civic if you want fast and nimble.
