I like force awakens but I feel like since force awakens was such a money maker that over let the leash off Kennedy then she destroyed Star Wars so after last Jedi over knew they need rise of skywalker need to be a hit and I think they went with Abrams because of how force awakens was good not great but made money
You didn't recognize his voice? That's understandable, but the amount of random cameos made me wonder. I didn't look into the entire cast just in case of spoilers before I saw it, but when Captain Phasma spoke, all I heard was Brienne of Tarth filtered through an iComm. Maybe it's just me, but I'm also not great with voices.
@@spaceace4387 No you didn't, nobody knew that, you just weren't willing to give it a chance back in 2015. It's easy to look back in retrospect, but if you were trashing on it before the second movie was even in production then you were just being weird and bitter
@Jimb0 Lmao you say that like episode 1 and 2 are consistent AT ALL. There was zero overarching story and I'm tired b of being told that. They were building to Darth Vader....that's literally it. They threw a bunch of s**t at a wall and none of it mattered as long as Vader popped up at the end. I never said it was perfect or amazing...but Its light years ahead the prequels in every way but music.....prequels had some bangers. So how about you just pretending that movies 1-3 were about anything else other than selling toys and video games because that's where the real money comes from.
@Jimb0 Are toys and merchandising involved? Absolutely. Were they made FOR that purpose? I don't think so. You know how many star wars games were made for force awakens? 0. You know how many were made for and were out BEFORE phantom menace? 3. You know why Padme changed clothes 12 times in Attack of the Clones? Because that's 12 different toys you had to buy. Why was there a new villain in each movie? Ooohhh because more toys and t-shirts. Have I made my case yet?
@Jimb0 What was the point of phasma? What was the point of boba fett? Hey let's stop Episode 1 dead in its tracks for 25 minutes so we can have a space NASCAR scene. And I'm sorry man your examples just sucked. You literally just named things from a movie then said toys. Why did they have coffee mugs? Toys. Shoes? Toys. Umbrellas? Toys. You didn't make a point man.
Yeah if Kylo ends up turning good, George Lucas will demand editing it so that Han shot first to show Kylo didn't have any other choice and the kids don't think he's a bad guy
I am waiting till episode 9 comes out to make that call. We may look back and say that episode 7 is where it got crazy. Personally Episode 2 is the weakest for me. It is very drawn out.
lol, reminded me a line in an article about something, who's fans are nitpicky: "Fans are such fans - they'll shit on anything what is given to them :D"
All three movies were total shit. I went into each one with the expectation of an original movie quality story so it was totally disappointing. These movies were crap from a story telling point of view.
Sam White I liked Th Force Awakens and I feel like most people did too. I hated the Last Jedi, which some love and some hate, and going against the grain I actually liked Rise of Skywalker. While it doesn’t match up with the originals it is a pretty ok trilogy and is for sure better than the prequels
+Tomás Barreto Hmmm. A plan to destroy the death star and a plan to find Luke. Leia putting vital information on the R2 unit and Poe giving BB-8 vital information on Luke Skywalker's whereabouts. I liked TFA but its not as great as everyone claiming it is. Episode 8 will feel new and should be better than 7.
Jedi Dark Knight New characters, new stories. It's not a remake. Obviously , it has similarities with Episode IV . The good news is that the episode VIII will be something much newer and I'm sure innovate .
Tomás Barreto Agree to disagree but I am excited to see episode VIII and yes I agree it should feel innovative. Excited to see the evolution of Kylo and Rey! Happy holidays!
+Tomás Barreto The entire third act was way too similar. Really....a third death star....they could have it least have this one stick around for more then 1 movie.
"Disney paid Chris stuckmann and other critics to praise the film", yeah they also paid everyone who cheered and clapped at the cinema when the film ended both 3 times when I went to see it.
+alistair p i swear just because "true star wars fans" don't like itthey say that any critic who enjoyed it is getting payed by disney its the stupidest thing isn't it?
Didn't Chris say people were cheering at the end of transformers 4? Not saying TFA is bad like AoE, hell, TFA is really good, but people can cheer for almost anything.
really? cause when I saw it people were laughing at the scenes that were supposed to be serious and sighing at the parts that were supposed to be fun or any jokes. I don't know how stupid you are but clearly pretty dumb. when the film ended, I'd never seen a theatre clear out so quickly and silently
Josh B I think some blame falls on Abrams. He tried to act as if TLJ was a concept he was told to loosely follow instead of a part of the franchise, so he tried to make 2 movies into 1 and as a result it didn’t feel like the finale, it was, rushed, there were confusing ideas, it was mismatched and it would’ve just been better to continue from TLJ, so he could make a coherent story and most of the blame would be on Rian Johnson.
This movie was very disappointing although it’s message and it’s artistic tone really made me intrigued and it also makes me view this movie in a very interesting way
I feel like starkiller base would be better pulled off if they saved it for Episode 9 and have rumors of it being built being revealed by Finn in episode 7. Then Leia would be able to send off Poe to investigate and we could have had a cool subplot for Poe to return to throughout the trilogy, leading up to a Starkiller base finale which would also set the stage for the final confrontation between Snoke and Luke and Kylo and Rey. I feel like that would be a better application for the Starkiller base storyline.
Agreed that would be a better use of Starkiller base, but I feel in Episode 9, the payoff wouldn't be too exciting. Everyone would just be like "oh its just another Death Star". I say get rid of the whole "Death Ray Base" thing and come up with a new weapon.
+domxthexdon "A New Hope" successfully introduced the Death Star and had it beaten in the same movie, with the most epic space battle scene (and arguably any type of battle scene since "Zulu Dawn"). The whole movie was about the terrifying Death Star, and how the rebel alliance was possibly going to bring it down. And it was touch-and-go all the way until the end. The final battle was a masterpiece that will probably never be bettered in Star Wars. Apart from Poe, I didn't get to know any of the other pilots as they assaulted the "star capacitor" (my term) ... whereas in New Hope .. you got to know Wedge and Biggs and Red Leader, just from that one scene - because it was long enough and involving enough to care about what they were doing. I agree with you that sucking up a star's power is such an immense technological achievement, that it should have been a slow burner (no pun intended!) - something as immense as that should have been the entire focus of maybe the second movie, and our heroes must try to stop it etc.
+domxthexdon Yes! In my opinion having them destroy the base was worse than actually putting it on the film. I feel like it wasn't really necessary to have a bigger newer Death Star, but I would've been ok with it if instead of blowing it up again, they destroyed it's weaponry or something like that. Then the Resistance would be on a race against the clock to recover Luke and kill Snoke before the First Order rebuilds the super laser. Leading up to a very sweet final confrontation in episode 9.
Star Wars fans are some of the biggest crybabies on the internet. Seriously, what the fuck? This movie is great... And as for Rey knowing the force and knowing how to fight... She wasn't doing front flips, force pushing, or doing crazy light saber moves? She had melee training with her staff(those 2 thugs she owned) My favorite star wars movie, 9/10 IMO
+Elias Gonzalez Suuuure a staff is the same as a light saber, in theory a weapon EXCLUSIVE of jedis that requires training since childhood, She is also super good as a pilot, super good in mechanics as Han Solo, super good aiming with blaster pistols, she does everything super fine without even trying... So much you can learn being an orphan inthe desert. GIRL POWER! SWJs be happy. The truth the movie is not bad but i don't see anythign amasing or surprising.
+FermiToll Ability with a staff doesn't directly translate to skill with a lightsaber, but a melee weapon is a melee weapon and certain things overlap. More importantly, however, it's always been made a point by Jedi that the force has a lot to do with skill with a lightsaber. The ability to gain glimpses into the future allows increased reflexes and faster action, so when you add Rey's obviously powerful connection to the force and her ability with a staff (and the skills that would overlap), you get an obvious reason for her to be skilled with a lightsaber. I mean really, even watch what she does. No flips, no flourishes, basic parries and thrusts for the most part with a few swings. Anyone with a basic understand of melee combat can do that. As for her ability in other things. It's established early on that she has a great interest in flying. She has an old rebel helmet -- a sign of her passion, obviously spends a lot of time taking apart and fiddling with aircraft due to her status as a scavenger, and is shown piloting various craft before the reveal that she's a talented pilot. As for the ability with a blaster, please. Point and pull the trigger. She's not doing any sharp shooting, all the targets she hits are within a few feet of her, and when she makes her first few shots she misses. Of all the things you may question in this movie, Rey's ability and her talents aren't really one of them. As for the stupid passive-aggressive "SWJ" comment. 1) SJW, if you're going to get on the bandwagon please get on properly, and 2) if your response to a strong female character with an established number of strengths is to instantly cry "SJW corruption", you're the problem.
+Elias Gonzalez I wouldn't say just Star War fans but Movie fans in general. Take any classic movie released back then and release it today. Most people would point out all the negatives and the lack of answers. I agree with that rating.
***** Something being the original never makes it naturally better than things that "aren't". George Lucas -- when you remove the veil of nostalgia -- was never a stellar director, and made a lot of mistakes. Especially when it came to the prequels. I could not be more happy that he wasn't in charge of The Force Awakens. What talent he had is long dead, he would have ruined it.
+Trevor MacEllven I kind of agree. It is like in legend of Korra how Korra started out badass while Ang became badass over time and this made season 2 of Korra crappy because she basically didn't change as a character. At least season 3 was ok, but season one was just too good for its own good. So I agree that Rey knew too much right away.
+Eli Kelley but she still got beat in season 1 so what are you talking about. she had to overcome things while she still was training the exact opposite of rey
I loved this movie. Just a question for chris, were u disappointed with captain phasma? U really hyped her up and she didnt do much, she had a cool look , just didnt do a lot
+Alex Sc YES I agree- such a waste of her character. I think along with more moments of her and others from the dark side would of been nice, it was a bit too heavily weighted to the heroes. Also curious what you thought of (Sorry not sure of his name) the ginger starfleet- captain? I thought his character really stuck out. I would of preferred more of a normal 'russian' sort like the originals like there were in the cock pits in the force awakens. He just seemed to be trying too hard.
Thank you for reminding everyone to remember the big picture, and also that the Original Trilogy had plenty of flaws that we ignore. A handful of flaws do not a movie break.
+Pendragon Agreed! Well said. At the same time... it is very valid to complain or to point out something in a film now. If something doesn't make sense now, it can still be a problem. Sure perhaps it will make sense once the big picture is revealed, but I don't think its not valid to dislike it currently. After all we can only go based off of the information we currently have.
The strength of the original trilogy was that the other parts were so captivating that it made you overlook the flaws. All this new remix of A New Hope has going for it is good CGI; everything else was garbage. And good CGI alone does not a movie make.
+TeaLobster Yep just good CGI, and writing, and characterization, and animotronics, and fight scenes, and was funny. But none of those makes a good movie, wait yes they do. . You must be a prequel and special edition lover..
Chris, did you hear the theory about why they built what was functionally a new Death Star, with the same weakness as before? It basically states that Snoke built it in order to have the same thing happen to it that happened twice before - to draw Luke Skywalker into trying to destroy it, therefore revealing himself during his exile. It makes the whole idea of rebuilding the Death Star quite brilliant.
+Darragh Tate actually that is a really good theory. but the problem is that it's not 100% reliable because han was in the base and even without luke, it's possible that the rebels could have figured that out on their own.
+Darragh Tate ...and wasn't the original death star 'the size of a small moon'. The new death star looked 10 times the size of the original - putting it in the vicinity of the size of our Earth. Really - how could any economy justify building something the size of a planet in an attempt to draw one man to them - a man who has been lying low, and not really causing any trouble these last 25 years or so.
The best thing that ever came out of the prequels was the last fight between Anakin and Obi wan Kenobi. That was full of such emotion and you could feel the moment. I loved that final scene.
I still love Episode III over all others if only because of the fall of Anakin and the final battle. I just wish all three prequels focused on his downfall and not intergalactic trading and politics. It's really disappointing.
Episode 3 I feel is still a good Star Wars movie. The first 2 prequels are mediocre or bad but Episode 3 was actually enjoyable and delivered a pretty good story.
I personally hated it and when I think of why I hate ROTS so much, one of the things is that fight. It's like 10 minutes too long, so choreographed, and the lava surfing was one of the dumbest things in the whole series. Then the high ground thing was really corny. I think the best light saber fights are in ESB, ROTJ, and TFA. I think Vader and Obi Wan's fight in ANH is better even though technically speaking it was way more limited.
ed1rko17 the ANH fight is pure kendo. The most spectacular fight is in TFM and the more dramatic in ROTJ. The Anakin/Obi-Wan fight in Revenge of the Sith is stupid and boring.
I don't know about you but I absolutely loved the visual symbolic that took place when kylo killed Han... When han first approached a dim red light shadowed Kylos face and when Han started talking about coming home to be with his family it went away and looked almost blue. But then when kylo made up his mind his face became completely shadowed by a bright red light ... Astonishing, bravo
+Mykill Molina Thank you! A lot of people are saying Kylo only killed Han for the shock of the audience and that it didn't have any build-up. From the moment he was talking to Vader, we learn he's still struggling with the Light side, and that shot with his face divided in colours really pays off.
+IOwnTheSpire I thought so too, and I'm critical of fake looking CG in movies. I thought they looked fine and didn't stand out at all. The only CG I thought was noticeable are the monsters on Solo's ship.
DFM Productions I'll have to reserve further comment on Snoke until I see the movie again after it's out on video. I think I was okay with him after I found out he was a hologram.
So someone tell me why does Chewy not get the big hug from Lea after Han's death?? Furball has been BEST FRIENDS with Han for over 40 years! But no... Hug the strange chick and ignore the wookie...
Leia thought that her son was just taken over by the dark side, so pretty much saying he had no control and was trapped in his own body with just the darkside. So my guess is that she didn't know he was alive and then thought that Rey basically freed him of torment so she hugged her
"The prequels are not like the originals" "The Force Awakens are too much as the originals" Get you head straight guys. Chris is right, you guys are Cherry pickers, this movie was great!
+kar muts this reminds me to the F2P games "we dont want f2p we want to pay a reasonable price for all the content" "we want it to be f2p and choose what we want to buy"
+Stephen Stinson Take off your rose tinted glasses and stop being one of those guys who cherry picks TFA. Seriously, Star Wars fans are rabid. You guys seem to pick out every little mistake this movie had even though there were just as many plot holes in the originals. I guarantee that if A New Hope came out this year, everyone would hate on it. People just can't enjoy movies anymore. TFA was better than the prequels by a long shot in my book. The prequels have not aged well at all over the years while on the other hand, TFA will age very well over the next couple decades. To add on, although there was a lot of reused ideas, TFA succeeded in creating a fairly good story. I cannot say the same for the prequels at all. It's certainly not as good as the originals, but give it credit. Come out of your cave of nostalgia.
I was totally in shock when Han got sabred by his son, but I totally melted when his long term friend Chewie roared in agony and went ballistic. His actions were realistic and totally agonizing to watch. R.I.P Han Solo
+no hassle I actually got tears in my eyes. I never - repeat never cry during a movie. But Han Solo was like this big immovable part of my childhood and suddenly he was gutted and tossed into a pit.
+no hassle My big problems with that scene are: 1. He doesn't look like neither Han or Leia AT ALL = Lame 2. Neither he and Han Solo shared a moment together on screen to at least add a bit of a sense that they actually knew each other before the scene. 3. They could've added a 1 min. flashback or something to give a little background about what made Kylo be such a pain in the ass and not just make him be the bad dude because of... REASONS! Having Leia mention "Oh it was all because of Snoke (whoever the fuck that is) is NOT ENOUGH!" Geez... it could've been so much better and bitter to see a well prepared scene like that, than just feeling bad about Han's death because you're not gonna see Harrison in Star Wars anymore.
Can we talk about the red guy in Maz's palace with the cool hat that Fin talks to about leaving? I like that guy. He had a nice hat. I think he's my favorite character.
I agree that R2D2 turning on felt abrupt, but I think it was a response to Rey's presence. Whether she is Leia's daughter or Luke's, I guess her 'return' brought R2D2 back to himself. (Love your review, by the way, and pretty much agree with all your points!)
interesting opinion, I've thought its more a response to Luke's lightsaber being present, although both the lightsaber and Rey probably showed up in front of R2 at the same time
+Dennis Ortiz I hadn't considered the light saber, but I think Finn had it with him when he first met up with the Resistance and it didn't wake R2D2 then. That being said, it's possible that the combination of Rey and the lightsaber (or the lightsaber being wielded by someone with Skywalker blood etc) is what did the trick.
+sendtherain but R2D2 is not force sensitive. for goodness sake, it's a robot...and old tech robot dated for like more than 50 years ago...How could it react to Rey's presence and a lightsaber (if considering the saber doesnt have an id code, encrypted)
After seeing it 3 times, I love the new cast. That was by far my favorite aspect of this film. Especially Rey and Kylo Ren. I love how Kylo (Ben) was so powerful in the force, but was clearly young, arrogant, bratty, and over confident in himself. The final lightsaber battle between Kylo, Finn, and Rey was top 3 lightsaber battles in all of Star Wars. I love the use of the old characters, especially Han. I felt that Han's exit was handle brilliantly. I really liked that Kylo has that constant battle of light and dark going on within him and his dynamic between Hux and Snoke. I rank it as my 2nd favorite in the entire saga, tied with A New Hope. I genuinely felt like it was the best possible way to enter back into this world. And no, I'm not Phantom Menacing this. I've seen it 3 times and have judged it as fairly as I judge any film. My only problems were the fact that Starkiller base was just another Death Star and that Phasma was underused. Beyond that, it's a near perfect film
And I just have to say that I HATE when people complain about how Rey was able to basically defeat Kylo. Kylo was clearly very powerful but not trained with a saber very well and was already damaged from Chewie's blaster. Also, I don't believe he was trained well with a saber. If I had to guess, I'd say that Luke teaches mostly about the force and how important it is instead of with a saber. Also, they established on Jakku that Rey was skilled in combat when she took those guys out with her staff.
(God there's so much I have to say about this movie) and also, I loved that they didn't just blatantly explain everything about the first order and the resistance and Luke and blah blah blah. They didn't need to. They didn't in the originals do I don't get why I'm hearing some complaints about them not explaining enough. They're playing the long game and if they gave us everything in episode VII, there would almost be no point in an episode VIII. And the final thing I will say, is... that was hands down the best final scene in ANY Star Wars movie.
+sinister kiid kylo ren has been training ever since he was a child by luke skywalker, im pretty sure he could have best rey with his eyes closed. Maybe they should have made it so that kylo ren sort of won and rey lost with minor injuries, because one of my many gripes with this film is that some characters were rushed
I am excited to see the light saber fights in the future movies because both Rey and Kylo are both going to get stronger. That means more cool light saber fights.
Clark Kent I agree. I want them to find a good middle ground between the prequels and original trilogy fights. I think they gave us a glimpse of it in this movie and I hope it just gets better.
+Candy Vegetables and darkness No, but R2 units can scan for specific lifeforms and/or objects (R2 scans for Luke's lifesigns in _The Empire Strikes Back_) It's more than likely that Luke used the Force to tell R2 to shut down until he detected Rey or detected Luke's lightsaber in close proximity. It's the only way Luke could be certain his whereabouts would be revealed to the right person.
Re-watching this after watching the Rise of Skywalker, I have to agree that Force Awakens is the best motion picture of the this trilogy. To be honest I didn't particularly like any of them. However, I still have a major problem with something you say in this review. The way you brush aside the complaints about the similarities between this movie and the originals as people "not making up their minds" is so easy and unfair. I disliked this movie because it was too similar to the originals in terms of STORY. I, like most people I think, wanted something similar in terms of TONE, PACING, FEELING, VISUALS, etc. but that doesn't prevent you from writing an original story instead of re-hashing the same one we've already seen before. There were a million directions they could've gone in while maintaining the elements I mentioned above but noooo. They had to bring back the Falcon and another Death Star and another Cantina scene and another kid stuck on a desert planet and so many other beats and story elements. I don't like it because it's a waste of time and a missed opportunity.
I think what's even worse is how it ruins the legacy of the original trilogy. Think about it, what was the point of the rebellion defeating the empire if thirty years later the galaxy would be just how it was before, with an organization with TIE fighters and stormtroopers being the main power in the galaxy and a rebellion movement with x wings and y wings fighting against it. It makes zero sense because why would the "ashes of the empire have a weapon 100x the size of the death star and HOW THE HELL WOULD THE NEW REPUBLIC NOT STOP IT. And also what's the point of the resistance if there's a new republic? They sacrificed any sort of sense and creativity just so they could rip off the original. And for that reason this is my second least favorite SW movie. Only above The Rise of Shitwalker.
@@gbrow1604 Couldn’t have said it better myself. This was my biggest problem with the sequel trilogy, though I still don’t dislike it as much as many Star Wars fans do.
+Desertxskills This comment section(and indeed, most of the internet) is so depressing. I just look at them and I feel bad for JJ Abrams who made such a great movie.
***** No because everyone today is a cynical critic. Honestly, it's a fantasy movie set in space, stop trying to apply realism to a fantasy movie, it's not supposed to be realistic.
***** Wasn't the point of it to run on the OT's coattails? What with all the mythologising of the OT's events and everything. Besides, they introduced enough new storylines for the next two movies to have little to nothing to do with the IV-VI. I know why you're angry, remakes are utter crap, but this is not a remake. The characters are new and not ripoffs, time has moved on, things are noticeably different. Only the very basics are the same like the droid with the message and the Death Star.
***** I agree with you on the fun watch and pretty exciting, but I wasn't disappointed at all in the end. To me, the characters felt new, the story was more of a continuation than a remake(in fact, if you think about it, Return Of The Jedi is a remake too, yet nobody says so). It introduced enough new things for me to be really into it, the Han Solo death scene was magnficient and I really liked the cast. Considering how crap blockbusters tend to be nowadays, TFA did an amazing job bringing Star Wars back with panache. It felt new again for me, whilst the other movies, as great as they are, are burned into my skull.
My theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter, thats why R2D2 awakened when Rey awakened the Force inside her. It would also make Rey & Kylo both the grandchildren of Vader.
Yup, & also in one of the Trailer's, you hear Luke saying "The force is strong in my family, my father had, i have it, my sister has it, & you have it too" that was probably ment for Rey but they cut it out of the movie.
Oh my God, me too. I watched it two times, and the opening is always what gets me... For me, this is the first Star Wars movie I've ever watched in the cinema... And it really brought me back into this world. God damn, I got nostalgic during this movie. I thought I was a little kid watching Star Wars again. It wasn't the adult in me that watched this movie. It was the little kid in me. Hell, you shoulda seen me when I saw the Millenium Falcon again. I was like this: www.dumblittleman.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/banner-chids-01.jpg And I found myself in love with Rey half the film... Jesus Christ, her voice, god damn. Her friggin smile! She's fucking adorable and I am stuck with bitter, ugly, girly girl bitches where I live! >.
It's funny watching this review now when Chris talks about Force Awakens setting up the Big Picture of where the trilogy was going - and in the end it just ended up being a complete mess.
What? You didn't get the R2 thing? I admit, that was a wrongfully placed shot. But It's the moment Rey lands on the rebel planet that R2 awakens. It's a force trigger. R2 awakens due to somebody with the force coming closer. Awakened by the force... The force awakens? Hint hint?
+extramouton Leia had been with the rebels and R2D2 for the entire time, there wasn't any change from when luke was there to when he left. Rey was the only character introduced to this movie that was force sensitive (and is also likely linked to Luke)
+MaJuV My theory is that R2D2 was in hibernation until Rey's Force Awakens. I have to see it again, but I don't think he woke up until she was gaining power. I'm pretty sure Rey is Luke;s daughter. R2D2 had the missing piece needed to find her father and only she could trigger him to wake up. Luke knew that when the force awoke in her, trouble was ahead and it was time for training. Luke left when Han and Leigh had Kylo. He could feel the weakness in him and knew he had to die or train until the Force Awakens and defeat the dark side.
FUN FACT , the stormtrooper Rey manipulate is none other then Daniel Craig ! he got a small cameo in the movie ! i just rewatch it and it make the scene 10 times more entertaining he even walk abit James Bondish !
+DickChappy Her channel is called 'Sam Liz' There are like 3 videos... I'm not sure what Sam wants to do with it, You can see them together in 'Scary Movie Binge!' video that Chris made...
THANK YOU for bringing up that point about Rey fighting Kylo Ren! No, she's not a perfect warrior, and neither is he! It was a fight between two young, talented but still inexperienced fighters where the one on the side of good and selflessness won out. She's not some Mary-Sue-Pixie-Dream-Perfect little Disney girl. Is she the most complex character ever written? No, but this is Star Wars and her character is handled just perfectly.
Honestly, that scene was still pretty bullshit. Kylo is a trained force user who's presumably been training nearly his entire life. Rey is a scavenger who is holding a lightsaber for the first time in her life. There is no way she would overcome him as easily as she did just by being reminded "the force exists." I mean she's just such a bullshit character. She outmatched Kylo in his whole mind-read thing in their second encounter without any training. Mind you, he's been doing that shit for ages probably. Then she learns Jedi mind-trick in less than minute, something that Luke three movies WITH TRAINING! Then she wrestles the lightsaber from Kylo's force grip with the Force. She's just so perfect and infallible it got seriously noticeable on repeated viewings, even in between all the fan-service and great acting. Rey is just bullshit, and they better justify some shit in the next movie.
my theory is that Luke planted the lightsaber with Maz as a test. If the force called to anyone and brought them to it, then he would know they were worthy of training. That person of course was Rey. After that happened and Rey realized the force was strong in herself, Luke allowed R2 to open the door to him.
Argus The Colossus I'll wait. I actually hope I'm wrong on this but I doubt that I am because everything about Rey screams Mary Sue. It's a real shame too because Daisy Ridley is a good actress.
Did everyone miss that the title of the film is "The Force Awakens"?. In summary, to me, it means that suddenly the last Jedi was no more. The force awoke inside living beings to create some sort of balance. That would be why Rey and Finn felt some sort of force within themselves. Without training. Like "Cavemen", they knew, but was not finalsed.
Fronz Clownz That's not how the Force works though. People who are "force sensitive" simply have the potential to connect with the force and attune themselves with it, but the actual connection is something that only comes with practice and training. It has always been like this. If you're going to change the most fundamental elements of Star Wars then stop calling it Star Wars.
I loved this movie, cried while watching it. A few flaws can't sully the best Star Wars movie in over 30 years. (On a side-note: PLEASE give us more of Phasma in the upcoming movies)
+Charlie's Drum Corner For me Phasma wasn't in this movie I hope she will kick some ass in the next ones instead of walking around and getting knocked out by teenagers. Loved the movie
+Mark Devlin totally agree. if they wanted to imitate the whole "I'm your father" thingy they should have saved the big reveal of both Kylo's real name and his face until Han caught up to him. No reason why he would have revealed himself upon Rey's request (the sexual tension between Kylo and Rey gives me quivers and not in a good way :P)
+Jack Cheng yeah he would've remained a mysterious villain up until the scene with Han instead of revealing himself to Rey. A lot of people say he doesn't look intimidating but to me he looked like a really troubled person who's still really confused
I'd like a moment where everyone is on the run from the first order and as they are resting at night around a campfire to get character development as they all talk and mourn Han Solo with no music only the sounds of the voices and the Sparks of the fire
+steezenuggets All the dialogue in this movie was shit in my opinion. And this movie was exaggeratedly fast-paced to the point of absurdity. I couldn't root for any of the characters thanks to that :/
+Randy Nguyen So what if Luke put the missing part of the map on Jakku, where he left his daughter (?), so she could get it once she's old enough and try to find him. So when she gets close to R2 he can give her the rest of the map. Why else would the map be on Jakku, in the smallest village with no outside connections?
+Randy Nguyen its weird to me that everybody doesn't realize this. She wasnt there earlier with Fin, the end was her first time there, and the moment she steps off her ship and onto their base, R2 wakes up full of excitement. Either R2 thinks its Luke, or Luke programmed R2 to only turn on for his daughter so she can be trained at the right time.
The Millenium Falcon reveal...?? OH MY GOD!!! Couldn´t hold my tears! I was alone at my home... and jumped from my seat, with no one to hug... wanted to scream... AWESEOME!!!
The best thing about the film is how Kylo is tempted by the lightside, it's such a good flip of the standard "seduced by the dark side' plus how he wears a mask just to emulate Vader is clever. Only thing I still don't understand about the force is how you can go from light to dark instantaneously, like how can all your views just switch
Well I don't understand why kylo ren had a mask in the first place. I mean it's kind of cool but all of the other sith don't wear masks and the only reason darth vader did was so he could stay alive
They're trolls or "original" purists. They just nitpick the minor flaws in the film and call it trash. But hey, welcome to 2015 where almost everyone on the internet acts like they have a stick up their ass.
Ooohh SOMEBODY IS MAD BECAUSE THEY KILLED HAN BWAHAHAHAHA! The way they killed him off is nothing short of brilliant. Sure his death scene slightly mirrors Obi-wan but what i like about Han's relationship with Finn and Rey is that he is their Obi-wan but more subtlely. It also makes it more emotional because it wans this duty to help them unlike Obi-wan. I liked it a lot.
I went to the midnight premiere of TFA in Leicester Square in London and it was awesome. Everyone turned up in outfits and when the opening theme begun, everybody cheered. They also cheered whenever a returning character came on like Han, Chewie, Leia, C3P0, R2 and Luke. Really great experience and a great movie.
A large room full of Star Wars geeks dressed up like kids on Halloween, probably stinking of body odour and cheering every ten minutes when you're trying to watch a movie? Sounds like a fucking nightmare tbh.
I felt there were 2 flaws with the film: 1. Length spent on Han Solo's death. The grieving process went by too quick. But Chewie's howl upon seeing it got me. 2. Starkiller base destruction...not feeling it, should have only been disabled. Looked too much like planet Vulcan being destroyed in the other series.
+Robert Ringuette I though so too regarding the base, but think about it. The base had the power of a star to fire its big cannon. If the containment system was compromised, it could have easily been destroyed along with the entire system. I at least thought the effect looked good.
+Robert Ringuette There was another flaw, and that was Captain Phasma. My god, even for the first movie, what a waste of potential, I really hope she gets more screen time and a badass scene in the next movie, because she was just so stale in this film.
+Declan Brannigan stale is kind of a harsh way to put it. I would say underused, more set-up than anything else..she probably will play a bigger part later.. but yeah abit disappointing
+Sergio Vale da Serra (Mr. V) I don't think so. Han and Leia didn't really react to her at all, and Leia wasn't even slightly concerned about her being on StarKiller base. It wouldn't surprise me if she was related to the Skywalker family somehow, but I don't think they will be siblings. She could be Lukes kid, but I can't wrap my head around why nobody would have known who she was, or why Luke would have abandoned her on Jakuu to fend for herself.
+Sam Hawes everyone has an opinion, even if yours sucks ass, which is my opinion. The force awakens opening night being one of the most fun nights I have had is also my opinion.
+Eduardo Hernandez i saw the original trilogy not to long ago for the first time. Instantly loved it. Watched episode 1 and i was so disappointed, but the force awakens reminded me so much to the original trilogy. I think i never got so hooked during a movie. I almost cried cause it looked so good and i was glad they didnt fucked it up.
Shinji the Dog I'm glad you're fair about that. That despite the fact you didn't like the movie, you're completely fine and respectful to others for liking it.
Shinji the Dog who knows? The Star Wars fandom is honestly quite embarrassing to be a part of. I don't understand why people can't keep an open mind about their opinion. They also need to be fair and realistic about it. If one enjoys the movie, they enjoy it. But if one finds it disappointing, they find it disappointing. Nothing wrong with either of that. But when people start bashing others for having a different opinion, telling them they shouldn't like it, or rudely insults others, making rude, and uncalled for remarks about it, that's when it gets unbelievably stupid. Some of the reasonings also feel petty, such as Kylo Ren's facial appearance under the mask, I even found someone calling Adam Driver a terrible actor for Kylo Ren, just because of his appearance. I didn't see one criticism about the perfomance or portrayal itself. No critique about the facial expressions, tone of voice, nothing like that. If someone is gonna criticize an actors perfomance, or more fairly critique it, they need to brings some points about the perfomance for what it was. Such as facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc. Those are things that one should critique about during any performance, if one is to talk about something like that, not the physical appearance itself. But for more examples, of how unbelievable some claims are, I recommend checking out I Hate Everything's video regarding some unfair hate it's getting, and how even more unfair hate people who may like it are getting. He has a lot of good points he put out there, such as that it's fine to like or dislike The Force Awakens, and some things he could understand that may take them out of the movie, or not like about it. I'm also really glad I watched his video, it also inspired me to understand those fundimental basic details of filmmaking (pacing, cinematography, writing, acting, the way the score is used), most of those I really liked about the film, but I never understood the basics of the details, till I tried to understand some of what he meant. Either way, I was definitely glad I watched that video. I never really understood why Force Awakens got some overhate, and I never realized how far it went till I saw that video, and showed some examples. But after watching that, I watched the movie again, and despite the recycled plot, I still really enjoyed it, and thought it was quite well done. It's something I really enjoy watching, and like looking at each time. I like doing the same with all Star Wars movies, good or bad. Anyway, I'm probably rambling on now, it happens a lot, but I'm glad I get it off my chest when needed.
Yeah I watch I Hate Everything as well. I hater the movie for the recycled plot, boring protagonist,BB-8,over abundance of comedy and how Disney said the expanded universe(books, comics, videogames) are no longer canon yet still took those ideas and made them there own. I just won't be seeing any of the new Star Wars movies as I know I won't like them.
Shinji the Dog I really like the movie for its acting and blend with the old and new cast, the facial expressions and body language in my opinion have never been better in a Star Wars movie, the cinematography, how the settings are made and how they look, to me it also had a charming sense of humour even if it's found overused, and finally I love the new characters. They have the right personality traits and nice introductions, and the actors show them, and capture them nicely. The combined elements of the cinematography, acting, and how the score is used, and sound quality, the combined aspects really can make a scene. They can add a suspenseful tone to what's about to happen, and how it does happen. Along with a heartwarming tone in certain scenes where the characters are seeing new things, such as Rey, Finn, and Han making a stop, and Rey seeing how lovely the planet looked. Along with Rey and Finn reuniting. I personally disagree with BB-8 though, while I respect that you don't like him, I personally find him adorable. The way he can move, uses all of his little gizmos, how he shows his mood, by being able to move his head in addition to the cute little noises he makes. I just found his personified gizmos cool. Though these are more on how it's made. The best elements in my opinion are the cinematography, settings, acting, balanced sounds with what's going on, as well as acting the scenes and situations out. I also find the characters likeable and relatable, for their situations, and others interesting with their motives. Finn being frightened at seeing how cruel and merciless the First Order is, and deciding to turn a new leaf, and help Poe out. But after believing Poe is dead, leaves off with nothing else to fight for, until he runs into Rey. Rey shows a strong willed and independent personality, who can stand up for herself, but is also compassionate and empathetic. While others have her mixed feelings about her, I think she has the right personality traits, and that Daisy Ridley shows them really well, especially when the character is in an emotional situation. I personally find that she had the best performance in the movie. I thought all the main stars were good. Sure the panting by John Boyega in his first like 10 maybe 15 minutes was a bit excessive and distracting, I know he was anxious and all, and emotionally traumatized, so granted him in that situation is understandable, even if it was distracting and excessive. But later on, he kept it to a minimum to focus on the other things he was going through. Especially as he faces his fears, against that Stormtrooper, and Kylo Ren. He was mostly at his best during the last half, he was also good around Rey, where he was starting to meet her and with her to escape. Oscar Issac was good too, sure his lines may have sounded kinda monotone to me, or slower paced than I felt could've been, but I still thought he delivered some of his other lines fine, especially the enthusiasm and compassionate and friendly side of the character. But his strong point to me was his body language and facial expressions in the situations he was in. Like when he was captured, and going up against Kylo Ren. Like I said, I think the facial expressions and body language were at their best in Force Awakens by most.
We all know that people have criticized this movie for being too much like A New Hope. I won't deny that, but I don't think it's a bad thing. A New Hope set up a world and introduced us to new characters so well. Going back to Chris' review of ANH, he mentioned that he thought it was a great idea to not introduce Luke until later in the movie, like they did here with Rey. TFA borrowed the element very cleverly, I thought. These are just my thoughts, but I don't think TFA should be as heavily criticized as it is for being similar to A New Hope. Great review as usual, Chris!
Rey isn't a Mary Sue just because you just have a problem with strong females because girls don't talk to you in real life. She was the best part of the movie.
+SmashBrosSieger Nope. I hate political correctness and I hate feminism, but I can tell you are wrong on this. JJ Abrams just likes female characters. He made Felicity and Alias, both super popular series featuring female characters. Literally every other character who does something significant in the movie is a male. Captain Phasma hardly counts as she has almost no screen time. Rey does not need training to do things well because she is naturally stong with the force, just like how Anakin was able to pilot pod racers when no other human on the planet could.... and he was age 10. It is not bad writing, it is in fact very thoughtful writing. I for one, am glad that we have a main character who is actually strong for once. Having your main character be weak and stupid and slowly growing to become strong is soo cliche and overdone.
It was a bit much that she was God at everything, I didn't find her interesting, nor Finn. Harrison Ford carried the movie at 70+ years old. I'm not saying they weren't good actors but they definitely weren't charismatic.
+shmaveyea Rey is the definition of a Mary Sue. In A New Hope, Luke was a complete liability until the end of the movie. He was saved at least 6 times, and didn't do anything significant until the very end of the movie (even then he was backed up by two of arguably the best pilots in the entire SW universe). Luke had two skills that he was moderately good at. 1. marksmanship and 2. piloting. He sure as hell couldn't do half the things Rey could do.
I think a lot of Star Wars fans can just never be satisfied! I have an emotional attachment to the 3 originals because my dad showed them to me as a kid. We bonded over those and now we can bond over this new one! I can kind of understand why people say its very similiar to a New Hope but its Star Wars! There will be jedis, light saber battles, and the old characters! Of course it'll be similiar because JJ Abrams is a smart director! There are plenty of new fresh ideas in this movie too and it all blends so well together! He did really well with the new Star Trek movies and I have faith that he'll continue to do well with these movies!
He didnt was honest from the start. I mean the guy is literraly saying he loved the móvie. There is no way you are a big fan of SW and said that, I can accept that someone like the móvie being a fan but I cannot believe a hardcore fan of SW is so excited and happy after watching that piece of sh***.... He is pretending he didnt dislike anything he is just there saying the móvie is perfect... Such a dishonest review.
"Make up your damn minds" is kind of an unfair statement. It's a false dichotomy, since people who disapproved of the sequels clearly didn't mean "We want a movie with a similar plot as the OT".
exactly. when people say the prequels weren't enough like the OT, they meant that they didn't have the same feel. When they say the force awakens was too much like the OT, they meant that it had almost exactly the same plot points. Stuckmann, and anyone who makes this argument, is a fucking moron.
At first I thought that how Kylo Ren got defeated was lame. But now that I think about it, I agree with what you say. To those who say this movie is racist because Finn is such a 'coward'. Not every character has to be perfect. Look at where he started, he was a strormtrooper who didn't agree with the first order's ideals, he already has a very cruel life. He wants to quit, but he is forced to join the fight even though he doesn't want to. Some people might argue that Rey is a stronger character than Finn because she is a girl, look where she was. She is an orphan who was forced to lived on Jakku who always had the sense that she could do more. She is forced to be independent and collect scrap for food. When people compare Rey to Finn, you have to think about where the characters were at the time. Finn was in a more emotionally disorganized state than Rey when they first met. But in the second act, Rey too is becoming emotionally challenged in a sense. And at the end she stops running from Kylo Ren and uses the force in a way that Kylo Ren can't, in a calm manner.
And in the end Finn changes as well, Finn also stops running and stands up to Kylo Ren even though he knows he can't win. This is his character arc. It's ok to havea character this way so long as they evolve at the end like Luke in the original trilogy.
I do not think Finn is a coward. He just did not want to have anything to do with wars and murders anymore. Cannot really blame him. It does not mean he is a coward.
rey really shouldn't be more competent than Finn since he was trained since he was young in combat. being a scavenger having to survive by yourself doesn't necessarily make you a great fighter. And no its not because she's a girl that I think that(not saying that to you specifically but people assume)
"being a scavenger having to survive by yourself doesn't necessarily make you a great fighter" Not necessarily, but skilled to some degree it does. Finn was trained since he was young, yes, but his first battle was at Jakku and look how that turned out. It took a lot for him to actually step up and use all the training he had. And even then he utterly failed against Kylo. Which is completely logical.
+1beatcher That's fine, cause a) the originals each had different directors and they turned out fine, and b) it stops one person from having total control of the franchise (that's what ruined the prequels).
JJ can literally never finish what he starts, and it makes me mad because he's good at what he does. Look at Lost and now Star Trek. Just too bad, maybe he doesn't know how to finish a film or just doesn't want to be responsible for how a series should end.
There's something I wish had happened in this movie. Maybe when all those planets(I can't remember the number) and/or when Han Solo dies, you just see a brief moment with Luke in it and he kinda just shudders a little. I think that would've made a great addition!
R2's awakening didn't bother me. There are hints that Rey is somehow connected to the Skywalkers, so I just assumed that Rey's force awakening made R2 think that Luke had returned.
+Rob Sorbo Probably Luke programmed R2-D2 to recognize a certain algorithm that depends on the midichlorian count of the person that's with R2-D2. Therefore it will have a spontaneous recovery to it's original functions.
+Tom Miller I think we are starting to make excuses for the lack of good plot development. I think a good movie should not leave important plot points up for guessing. However, I hope you're right.
Looking back at this review over five years later, I love Chris's excitement for the movie, and I'm sad at how the trilogy turned out. So many good ideas in this movie just got shoved aside by Johnson. I would pay good money to see the treatment that Abrams wrote up of Episode VIII made into a movie.
@@KahlessTheUnforgettable There are different degrees of sadness. I would never say the way the trilogy worked out is as sad as kids with cancer. Not even The Last Jedi is that terrible.
It's ten times the film rotj is. Way way better in the technical realm, way way way better in the acting department. It's overall a better film. It's on par with the original Star Wars if not slightly better.
+Tyler Jacobson its definitely tied in second with a new hope imo. Hopefully the next one is great. But its with the director of jurrassic world which isnt a very good movie. Not terrible. Just not good ...its basically a glorified syfy channel movie. Im worried it will just throw references of the empire strikes back and not be its own thing.
Finn and Rey's interactions with each other felt very rushed and forced (pardon the pun). They're already hugging each other and almost tearing up when Finn leaves Maz's place after only knowing each other for a few hours, not to mention Finn was being dishonest the entire time. I just felt their exchanges where written poorly and kind of glossed over.
Jesus Christ. Anyone who is thinking about reading the comments I suggest you don't....especially if you liked this movie like I did. Most of them are talking about how this movie was just to make men look bad and that its propaganda and just an agenda. People it's a freakin Star Wars movie. A company is trying to give us what we wanted and this is what you say? God I'm so done with some of these fans. You don't like the prequels because they're not enough like the originals, you don't like TFA because it's too much like the originals. THEN HOW ABOUT YOU GO WATCH THE ORIGINALS AGAIN AND QUIT RUINING IT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIKED THIS MOVIE. ITS NOT THAT HARD.
I watched it like 2 times, and it really sucks, I found the Star Wars movie a huge disappointment, especially the character Kylo Ren, I mean, how he talks is so fucking annoying, and the scene where he throws temper tantrums made him look very immature and not cool, especially where he took his mask off, he looked so average, especially that long ass nose, and not to mention, he is not even built, he's skinny as a tooth pick, Kylo Ren has to be the worst Star Wars villain and the worst and most average looking (Not that I'm gay or Bisexual) actor to play a Star Wars villain ever!, enough said.
PS, the guy who directed the movie was JJ Abrams, who I always hated as a director ever since I watched that lousy show Alias when I was a Senior in High School, it literally sucked ass. Jennifer Garner was the main character in that show, and she was so annoying, all she ever did in situations like confronting killers, she didn't have the heart to kill them or when she learned some other bad stories going on in her life or any shocking family secrets that were revealed to her, she would cry all the time, which was l literately fucking annoying, I couldn't stand it. Anyways, I don't like Jennifer Garner, I don't find her hot at all like a lot of other guys do who have heard of her, and plus she barely gets any tv or movie roles anymore, she just gets paid to do a bunch of adds on tv, which is no surprise to me because she's not a good actor at all.
It's like people don't realize this movie is part of a TRILOGY. If everything was explained in The Force Awakens WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT OF HAVING TWO MORE MOVIES!!? Having unanswered questions is a GOOD thing. If the Emperor wanted to turn Anakin to the dark side he should have just made him read the UA-cam comments section on these Star Wars videos. The hate is strong with these people.
Exactly! Star Wars didn't have any of the big things from the later movies like Vader being Luke's father. It was just them saving a princess and blowing up the Death Star.
Apply that judgement to the Phantom Menace and ask yourself if it was a good movie or not. You will say it sucked because that's what everyone says and it doesn't matter what's in the next movie because the movie itself was bad. But you won't apply that logic to this move you fucking hypocrite.
Seena Zabihi First off, take a high school level English class before you try and use words like hypocrite, amateur. I thought this movie was good. So I disagree with people who thought it was a bad movie. And I was addressing the point of everyone bitching about unanswered questions, saying that it's a good thing to have questions after the first movie in a trilogy. You didn't even address my point and then proceeded to make yourself sound like an idiot.
+TheShockmaster I did address your point but nice bait and switch to cover up the fact that you're a hypocrite. One of the biggest criticisms of Phantom Menace (which I think is an average movie btw) is that it doesn't do enough to answer questions about the origins of the SW timeline. But when people criticize The Force Awakens in the same way, idiot fanboys like you come out in droves to claim that you need to give the trilogy time to develop before judgement. Treating one movie with a different set of standards than another movie but still comparing them by calling one good and the other shit is hypocrisy by defintion. Sit down and shut the fuck up.
Listen hun. TFA is better that the Phantom Menace, so I'm not using a different set of standards. We can look at the prequels as a whole and see that many of the main questions were never answered. You have to be patient and wait for the next two to come out before you can say the same thing about this trilogy. And please look up the definition of hypocrisy. I know you probably like to use strong words like that just because it makes you feel intelligent. I'm sorry to say, but you are, in fact, a dumbass. Goodbye.
+doctorisjoe Maybe he'll have a robotic spine since that wound he received looked pretty fucking nasty. I'm intrigued as to where his character will go as Rey has all the talent but Finn is so damn likeable I just want him along for the ride.
+Denita Watkins eh that forehead kiss (I know it is just a forehead kiss) might say slightly otherwise. like they are going out of their way for each other. Rey is trying to get Finn to stay Finn saves Rey, Rey gets to know it was Finns idea. Rey saves she will see Finn again. I think it is leading towards a relationship, but they are going to need to have Finn be either really good at something or he might look like an extremely small side character in the relationship
Ok. I will tell you why people don't like force awakens. 1. Rey is a Mary Sue. She has no flaws, she knows more about the millennium falcon than Han Solo, 2. She is able to use the force and wield a light saber with zero training. Whilst every other force sensitive being in the universe has to be trained to use it competently. 4.this Gives Rey zero character arc making her bland, boring, actually totally unlikable. 3. Missed opportunity to have the original cast together on screen. 4. The storyline is unoriginal, it's almost a copy of A New Hope. 5. The only surprise in the movie was Han Solos death. 6. Now the last Jedi is out, and by god that's even worse!!! It consolidates that Rey is a Mary Sue, the character Luke Skywalker has been completely butchered so badly that even Mark Hamill said he disagreed with every direction that his character was taken to. And princess Leia doing a Mary poppins impression in space was just the biggest WTF moment in cinema history! I enjoyed episodes 1 2 and 3. They weren't perfect , not as interesting as 4 5 and 6 but still enjoyable. (But that's why George Lucas did 4 5 and 6 first because he knew they were more interesting stories ). But they fit the star wars universe, they actually add to it. Episodes 7 and 8 destroy the mythology that the previous films had spent decades building on! That's why people hate force awakens and last Jedi.
That guy you thought you knew once no people don't like them because they shit all over the Jedi lore that was established in the previous movies, and the extended universe, as well as the other reasons I mentioned in my previous comment.
When Kylo Ren kills Han I so wanted the dialog to go: "I love you" Han solo said. "I know." Kylo Ren said, a tear rolling down his cheek. He activated the light saber ripping the light side from his heart and with it the life of his father. Han Solo looks in to his son's eyes for the last time and gently reaches up and pats him on the cheek his thumb wiping away the tear.
+ayleelya It sounds nice on paper, but that would have been an incredibly cheap and unoriginal way to pay homage to the original, it would have soured one of the most iconic and beloved lines in film history. Literally rewatching those movies would ruin those lines since all you would be able to think about would be this death scene. Plus, it was already rehashed in ROTJ, I think it would have added insult to injury using it a third time.
I'm betting Rey is Luke's daughter and she had some early Jedi training back when Luke had the academy. So when Ben Solo embraced the dark side and destroyed the academy, Luke sent Rey away to protect her.
She'ld know more than she does (or at least let on) in the beginning of the movie. I think Snuke was the student that turned on Luke, Ben and Rey were twins and were separated.
+bobby111 How is abandoning her on an awful dessert planet "protecting her?" Luke was given to his Step Aunt & Uncle. Rey was seemingly given to a junk dealer...
Adam Hasser Because on a planet like that, The first Order wouldn't find her. Also that environment would toughen her. It's s secret Jedi training plan :))
AND KYLO REN KILLS HER! That adds more input on why he lives as a hermit. He destroys his friend's family and even even his own (sister and wife!) *gasps*
I wonder how much guilt Luke is going to have in Episode 8. He already felt bad that Kylo Ren joined the Dark Side in spite of his training. Got to imagine it's going to be brutal when Episode 8 (more than likely) starts off with him learning and having to live with the fact that Han Solo is dead because he failed to keep Han's son from joining the Dark Side.
“We dont see the big picture yet”
3 years later neither did Disney
Unfortunately accurate.
I still like all 3 movies but its true :(
This. Now we know the big (shit) picture.
I like force awakens but I feel like since force awakens was such a money maker that over let the leash off Kennedy then she destroyed Star Wars so after last Jedi over knew they need rise of skywalker need to be a hit and I think they went with Abrams because of how force awakens was good not great but made money
And you never will
Daniel Craig was great in this film
"And I will Drop My weapon"
Yes, we googled that too
true! 007 in action.
"And I will drop my weapon"
You didn't recognize his voice? That's understandable, but the amount of random cameos made me wonder. I didn't look into the entire cast just in case of spoilers before I saw it, but when Captain Phasma spoke, all I heard was Brienne of Tarth filtered through an iComm. Maybe it's just me, but I'm also not great with voices.
Chris: you don’t know much about Hans past.
Disney: write that down, write that down
It’s sad watching this knowing chris would in the end be disappointed by this trilogy
When he said, “we don’t know the big picture yet,” I’m just like 😬
As so many of us are as well.
Its sadder that I was lmao
Not me, I actually find it quite hilarious because I knew back in 2015 that this trilogy was going to suck.
@@spaceace4387 No you didn't, nobody knew that, you just weren't willing to give it a chance back in 2015. It's easy to look back in retrospect, but if you were trashing on it before the second movie was even in production then you were just being weird and bitter
Retrospectively, it is so sad that there was no "bigger picture" for the Sequel Trilogy, and they were pretty much winging it as it went along. :(
Every single trilogy was "winging" it. Do some research.
Okay man. You win. This is absolutely pointless and I'm done here. Have a great day.
Looks like Kylo stabbed first
+BestintheWorld247 lol chewbacca shot first
Yeah if Kylo ends up turning good, George Lucas will demand editing it so that Han shot first to show Kylo didn't have any other choice and the kids don't think he's a bad guy
+BestintheWorld247 - And Han threw first...
Ye bastard! XD
+BestintheWorld247 Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyy
“We don’t know the big picture yet.”
Eventually, we found out that neither did they.
Daniel Craig has more lines than Mark Hamill
that's because Daniel Craig had 4 lines and hamill had 0
Anyone has
We all have equal lines to Luke in this film
I have as many lines in this as Mark Hamill.
I just realized that the people that hate Star Wars the most are Star Wars fans
Boy, you ain't wrong...
Worse than Episode 2?

I am waiting till episode 9 comes out to make that call. We may look back and say that episode 7 is where it got crazy. Personally Episode 2 is the weakest for me. It is very drawn out.

Fun fact the storm trooper who Rey uses the Jedi mind trick on is played by Daniel Craig (James bond)

Yupp
All three movies were total shit. I went into each one with the expectation of an original movie quality story so it was totally disappointing. These movies were crap from a story telling point of view.
Sam White I agree but I honestly enjoyed the force awakens plot but the last jedi and rise of skywalkers plot was lazy.
100th like
Ep4: Find the droid with the secret message.
Ep7: Find the droid with the secret map.
+xeinre A map and a message. Very different.
Wasn't the storm trooper that Rey tricked Daniel Craig?

I miss when we were optimistic about The Last Jedi :(
Benjamin Ramsey Yeah...
I loved The Last Jedi as a movie but after seeing The Rise of Skywalker, it was pretty clear how the movie did not fit Abram's vision.
This movie was very disappointing although it’s message and it’s artistic tone really made me intrigued and it also makes me view this movie in a very interesting way
😔
+domxthexdon
"A New Hope" successfully introduced the Death Star and had it beaten in the same movie, with the most epic space battle scene (and arguably any type of battle scene since "Zulu Dawn").
+domxthexdon When i saw it i tought it was defenitely too big for being destroyed in the same movie i was kinda dissappointed when they did ;/
+domxthexdon Yes! Leading up to a very sweet final confrontation in episode 9.
omg, you're a genius.
Those cry babies who gave the movie a 1/10 on IMDb are not Star Wars fans
Never were and never will be
***** Something being the original never makes it naturally better than things that "aren't". George Lucas -- when you remove the veil of nostalgia -- was never a stellar director, and made a lot of mistakes. Especially when it came to the prequels. I could not be more happy that he wasn't in charge of The Force Awakens. What talent he had is long dead, he would have ruined it.
Kinda disliked how Rey instantaneously got the hang of the force.
Ya.. it ruined the movie for me.
Luke was blocking lasers blind folded on his first try....So I wasn't too bothered.
+Eli Kelley but she still got beat in season 1 so what are you talking about. she had to overcome things while she still was training the exact opposite of rey
*****
he had to learn to use the force(cough) rey. and struggle with killing his father which he did not do and almost got himself killed.simple
Now we know there was no big picture in 2015
I loved this movie.
+Alex Sc Yeah. Just like Boba Fett. ;)
+Will Binks I feel the second episode will have more of the first order... Just like episode 5 had more empire.
+Alex Sc Too many other characters to introduce. Somebody has to get less screen time.
+Alex Sc Too many other characters to introduce. Somebody has to get less screen time.
Danny Fedor I'm talking about The Force Awakens, not A New Hope. Also CGI wasn't around back then. What on Earth are you talking about?
+ghoster88 Completely agree with you. If people dislike it, its a valid dislike, but its good to keep in mind that there are more movies coming.
+Thomas Hall On the plus side even if the plan didn't work as intended they still got to destroy the New Republic. So not a total loss.
Want the new "Death Star" just a planet that was takin over and the first order just put a big laser on it? That's how I saw it at the premiere
+chillzwinter Just curious: was it ever stated how long he was actually in hiding?
The best thing that ever came out of the prequels was the last fight between Anakin and Obi wan Kenobi. That was full of such emotion and you could feel the moment. I loved that final scene.
I still love Episode III over all others if only because of the fall of Anakin and the final battle. I just wish all three prequels focused on his downfall and not intergalactic trading and politics. It's really disappointing.
Episode 3 I feel is still a good Star Wars movie. The first 2 prequels are mediocre or bad but Episode 3 was actually enjoyable and delivered a pretty good story.
Same.
*symbolism
+Mykill Molina I'll pay attention when I see it again in a few days. Thanks for pointing that out!
+Mykill Molina YEEA I noticed that too. The base finished charging which took out the sunlight leaving only the red glow. So cleaver.
+Mykill Molina I noticed the same thing. Posted a comment above talking about it. Also made a note of how I thought Han should have died.
+Mykill Molina Thank you! A lot of people are saying Kylo only killed Han for the shock of the audience and that it didn't have any build-up. From the moment he was talking to Vader, we learn he's still struggling with the Light side, and that shot with his face divided in colours really pays off.
Snoke and Maz looked fine to me. Not every alien can (or should) be practical.
+IOwnTheSpire I thought so too, and I'm critical of fake looking CG in movies. I thought they looked fine and didn't stand out at all. The only CG I thought was noticeable are the monsters on Solo's ship.
+No Youmaynot Snoke was pretty noticeable . . . but I thought Maz looked great.

I'll have to reserve further comment on Snoke until I see the movie again after it's out on video. I think I was okay with him after I found out he was a hologram.
No Youmaynot I guess you are right.

Nah, there's no right or wrong here.
So my guess is that she didn't know he was alive and then thought that Rey basically freed him of torment so she hugged her
But Leia Knew that Han had died. She felt it through the force. That means Chewie was the one who needed comforting. Not Rey...
I like to think that he's just going to go off, after all his life debt has been served, why stick around when he could be doing woodie stuff?

TFA was better than the prequels by a long shot in my book. The prequels have not aged well at all over the years while on the other hand, TFA will age very well over the next couple decades. To add on, although there was a lot of reused ideas, TFA succeeded in creating a fairly good story. I cannot say the same for the prequels at all. It's certainly not as good as the originals, but give it credit. Come out of your cave of nostalgia.

+no hassle Kylo Ren was awesome, but please don't compare him to Vader. That's like comparing Snoke to the Emperor.
+no hassle I actually got tears in my eyes. I never - repeat never cry during a movie. But Han Solo was like this big immovable part of my childhood and suddenly he was gutted and tossed into a pit.
DarthRushy Yeah, I know your pain. He was so iconic and lovable. It was hard to watch, but it was brilliant drama. Tragic, but brilliant.
no hassle I do agree with you about Snoke, though. They should've just used Andy Serkis on his own. He's creepy enough as it is.
+no hassle My big problems with that scene are:
1. He doesn't look like neither Han or Leia AT ALL = Lame
2. Neither he and Han Solo shared a moment together on screen to at least add a bit of a sense that they actually knew each other before the scene.
3. They could've added a 1 min. flashback or something to give a little background about what made Kylo be such a pain in the ass and not just make him be the bad dude because of... REASONS! Having Leia mention "Oh it was all because of Snoke (whoever the fuck that is) is NOT ENOUGH!"
Geez... it could've been so much better and bitter to see a well prepared scene like that, than just feeling bad about Han's death because you're not gonna see Harrison in Star Wars anymore.
Can we talk about the red guy in Maz's palace with the cool hat that Fin talks to about leaving? I like that guy. He had a nice hat. I think he's my favorite character.
He sounded like a Kel Dor when he talked... Maybe he was a Kel Dor but just had a different mask on than what they normally do.

I agree that R2D2 turning on felt abrupt, but I think it was a response to Rey's presence. Whether she is Leia's daughter or Luke's, I guess her 'return' brought R2D2 back to himself. (Love your review, by the way, and pretty much agree with all your points!)
I reckon rey is leia's and Hans daughter, not just the sister of kylo ren, but the twin sister.
+ScorpioLeagueX they do love their twins
I reckon kylo's the one on jakku with younger rey in the flashback as well
interesting opinion, I've thought its more a response to Luke's lightsaber being present, although both the lightsaber and Rey probably showed up in front of R2 at the same time
+Dennis Ortiz I hadn't considered the light saber, but I think Finn had it with him when he first met up with the Resistance and it didn't wake R2D2 then.
I wish we still had this hope.
There’s always hope, but Disney and Kathleen cast a dark shadow
Yes to all of this.
Laugh if chewbacka become Jedi because he survived
I am excited to see the light saber fights in the future movies because both Rey and Kylo are both going to get stronger. That means more cool light saber fights.
As long as they stay away from pointless flips, twirls and bad dance moves I'm happy.
Clark Kent
I agree. I want them to find a good middle ground between the prequels and original trilogy fights. I think they gave us a glimpse of it in this movie and I hope it just gets better.
+Clark Kent stfu revenge of the siths fight was legendary
Kylo Ren reminds me almost as a Zuko character. If you understand that reference.
Isaiah Luc Apachee-Kriz
I thought the exact same thing while watching the movie. I don't really want him to turn to the light side.
I got the impression R2D2 felt Rey's force and sensed that a Jedi needed Luke.
Droids can't feel the force
Candy Vegetables and darkness I worded that wrong. Maybe R2 just sensed that a Jedi was nearby or that Luke needed this Jedi?
+Infinitify I think BB-8 just told him to wake up cause he had the rest of the map.
I think he sensed the same kind of power as Luke... As in i think Ray is Luke's daughter
+Candy Vegetables and darkness No, but R2 units can scan for specific lifeforms and/or objects (R2 scans for Luke's lifesigns in _The Empire Strikes Back_)
It's more than likely that Luke used the Force to tell R2 to shut down until he detected Rey or detected Luke's lightsaber in close proximity.
Just watched it with my brother and we both completely agree!
@Jack Fisher I couldn't have put it better honestly
@@gbrow1604 Couldn’t have said it better myself. This was my biggest problem with the sequel trilogy, though I still don’t dislike it as much as many Star Wars fans do.
Calling The Force Awakens “the best motion picture of this trilogy” is like saying that one part of a dog turd is less smelly than the rest.
If A New Hope came out today, i guarantee you people would bitch and moan about it. I feel like people don't know how to enjoy movies anymore.
It felt new again for me, whilst the other movies, as great as they are, are burned into my skull.
well ya we probably would, the movie is almost 40 years old, times have changed.
My theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter, thats why R2D2 awakened when Rey awakened the Force inside her. It would also make Rey & Kylo both the grandchildren of Vader.
Not to mention a lightsaber to only be owned by the Skywalkers called out to her.
Yup, & also in one of the Trailer's, you hear Luke saying "The force is strong in my family, my father had, i have it, my sister has it, & you have it too" that was probably ment for Rey but they cut it out of the movie.
+imsteezy1 I'm guessing she is the sister of kylo ren
+Bob Jenkins hmm maybe but I see her being Luke's daughter, but either way she definitely has Skywalker blood in herb
Has to be! The lightsabre went through the family from Anikan (Vader) to Luke and then to Rey!
I just remember smiling like a dork during the opening credits crawl...never washing these eyes again!
+Angry Jim I almost cried during the credits
I was smiling like the joker when I saw that
I'll never wash this flipper again
Oh my God, me too. I watched it two times, and the opening is always what gets me...
For me, this is the first Star Wars movie I've ever watched in the cinema...
And it really brought me back into this world. God damn, I got nostalgic during this movie. I thought I was a little kid watching Star Wars again. It wasn't the adult in me that watched this movie. It was the little kid in me.
Hell, you shoulda seen me when I saw the Millenium Falcon again. I was like this:
www.dumblittleman.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/banner-chids-01.jpg
And I found myself in love with Rey half the film...
Jesus Christ, her voice, god damn. Her friggin smile! She's fucking adorable and I am stuck with bitter, ugly, girly girl bitches where I live! >.
+Angry Jim I think I squeaked at that part XD
It's funny watching this review now when Chris talks about Force Awakens setting up the Big Picture of where the trilogy was going - and in the end it just ended up being a complete mess.
What? You didn't get the R2 thing? I admit, that was a wrongfully placed shot. But It's the moment Rey lands on the rebel planet that R2 awakens. It's a force trigger. R2 awakens due to somebody with the force coming closer.
Awakened by the force... The force awakens? Hint hint?
+MaJuV Why didn't leia trigger it then ?
+MaJuV Yup
+extramouton Leia had been with the rebels and R2D2 for the entire time, there wasn't any change from when luke was there to when he left. Rey was the only character introduced to this movie that was force sensitive (and is also likely linked to Luke)
r2d2 is a droid
he couldnt have felt the force
+Yee ji ziang JB007 report for duty.
+Hessiakoff you mean 'Snoked'? okay I'll leave now
I heard that rumour.
It would be cool if it isn't a rumour.
Your wife has a channel????!!!!!!????
+DickChappy Anyone know what her channel name is? Can't find it anywhere...
what's her channel? ?
+Fazoo It is called samliz
+Fazoo It's Sam Liz. She hasn't uploaded the video yet though and whether she has a different Channel I don't know
+DickChappy Her channel is called 'Sam Liz'
There are like 3 videos... I'm not sure what Sam wants to do with it,
You can see them together in 'Scary Movie Binge!' video that Chris made...
Also, did no one notice that Ren was shot before the fight? No wonder he wasn't able to win.
I also liked the way Kylo hit his wound to get his pain up and strengthen his dark side use, great tactical move in my opinion
no shes a mary sue
+Soul Fist Get out.
Honestly, that scene was still pretty bullshit. Kylo is a trained force user who's presumably been training nearly his entire life. Rey is a scavenger who is holding a lightsaber for the first time in her life. There is no way she would overcome him as easily as she did just by being reminded "the force exists."
I mean she's just such a bullshit character.
Anyone notice that the snoke soundtrack is similar to the background music in the opera house scene/ the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise in ROTS?
+Brennan Cain I will go crazy if in episode 8, it is revealed that Snoke is Darth Plagueis.
+Mike Welson
Actually, knowing crap that J.J. did so far, Snoke should be Kylo Ren that time-travelled back from the future :P
+schm00b0 Luke is going to skype with his future self and he'll say "here's how u defeat him"
+schm00b0 It can't be more crap than what Lucas did with the prequels.
Definitely did hear that, I think it could possibly be plagus explain y he's all messed up facially
my theory is that Luke planted the lightsaber with Maz as a test. If the force called to anyone and brought them to it, then he would know they were worthy of training. That person of course was Rey. After that happened and Rey realized the force was strong in herself, Luke allowed R2 to open the door to him.
+Scwurt Good theory. I like the one with her being Luke's daughter. Would make sense with her missing family and all.
+Scwurt Kind of reminds me of how Yoda first tested Luke's patience and precision in Empire. That's a pretty good theory to fit in with.
+tellytooya But Jedi aren't supposed to have kids...
+Tylord The Great Luke would not know that.
+Tylord The Great anakin skywalker? like father, like son
WHY DIDN'T FINN GO TO THE UPPER GUN TURRET WHEN THE LOWER TURRET GOT STUCK IN THE JAKKU CHASE SEQUENCE ARGHH
I had the same thought
I checked and the turret is still there too FINN YOU DUMBASS THERE ANOTHER GUN
+GamermanRPGKing is that the only fucking thing you found illogical in this movie to wonder about? Really?
maybe because he would hurt him self getting there, rey was driving the falcon veery wild
Ivan Dankob no but it bugged me xD
It's getting easier to become a jedi as the generations pass, is there something the council weren't telling us
Apparently someone telling you that the Force exists now means that you can resist interrogation and do a Mind Trick with no training or practice.
TheCompulsiveWinner Rey could had been trained throughout her younger days - just wait mate
I also liked Daniel Craig's cameo he had in the film as a Stormtrooper so Awesome!...
When?
+Riley Freeman When Rey is using the force on that stormtrooper to release her. the trooper is Craig
+Riley Freeman He`s the one stormtrooper that Rey Uses mind tricks on
+JWUniverse "Annnnd I'll drop my weapon."
+JWUniverse FN007.
I loved this movie, cried while watching it. A few flaws can't sully the best Star Wars movie in over 30 years.
(On a side-note: PLEASE give us more of Phasma in the upcoming movies)
+Hayden Burke Boba fett looked cool as well and is still people's favourite even though he died like a bitch
+Tom Kelly Boba Fett is one of the most overrated fictional characters ever created.
+Charlie's Drum Corner For me Phasma wasn't in this movie I hope she will kick some ass in the next ones instead of walking around and getting knocked out by teenagers. Loved the movie
+Joshcoshbagosh Yeah but they built him up as a bad ass, Phasma just gives orders, doesn't show anything impressive YET, who knows what happens after
+Charlie's Drum Corner the saddest part was when han solo got killed by his son
Another thing, Kylo Ren shouldn't of taken his helmet off until the scene with Han. That would've added something to the movie
+Jack Cheng More like rapy tension :s
+Jack Cheng Sexual tension? It's most likely they are either siblings or cousins. I mean, Leia and Luke kissed but...well...
+Jeremy Stuut I think they are siblings too. Jedi aren't supposed to have kids so they shouldn't be cousins.
For Star Wars 8, I hope (no pun intended) it opens with Han solo's funeral
I'd like a moment where everyone is on the run from the first order and as they are resting at night around a campfire to get character development as they all talk and mourn Han Solo with no music only the sounds of the voices and the Sparks of the fire
Augs For President that would be pretty cool too
Actually it's been revealed that it's gonna open up right where the force awakens left off on Luke's island
Blue Averi oh, so no HAn funeral ;(
***** NICE!!!!!!
Seeing as how awesome this movie was, just imagine what Episode 8 and 9 will be like?
The Hype is real
+Elijah Cassidy 9 may not be so great, apparently it will be directed by the guy who made Jurassic World
GengarWarrior Yeah I'm a bit concerned about that too.
+GengarWarrior You're kidding right? Damn Jurassic World sucks ass.
I think episode 8 will be the best in these 3, but I'm nervous about 9 because I was not a fan of Jurassic World at all
anybody feel like the scenes with han & leia interacting was a lil corny? the dialogue just didn't do it for me.
Yes. I'm glad we won't see any more Han/ Leia scenes.
+steezenuggets All the dialogue in this movie was shit in my opinion. And this movie was exaggeratedly fast-paced to the point of absurdity. I couldn't root for any of the characters thanks to that :/
+WarriorShooter7 You have not taste at all.
+steezenuggets You could say the same about Episode 4 dialogue with them too.
God, movie fans today don't enjoy movies like they use to.
+steezenuggets 15 years from now when they are both dead you will look at it nostalgicly
R2-D2 wouldn't power on until Rey arrived at the rebel base.
+Randy Nguyen As Chris said, I think Luke manipulated R2 to do that.
+Randy Nguyen HE SENSED THE HOPE IN HER.
Aaaaaaaand the plot called for it, guys, let's admit it XD
AWESEOME!!!
anyone could have puked from nostalgia overload there. (sorry for ruining your experience, but it needs to be said.)
Carl Geijer xD
Is alright, I get it. For them it was an easy (and cheesy) choice... still, it worked for me!
Locku Cisse i respect your opinion
I almost fist pumped in the cinema when I saw the falcon
That´s what I´m talking about! xD
"We don't have to wait three years, only a couple." But isn't that around 3 years?
+Carter Burkhart Only 18 months til Episode VIII.
"A couple" means 2. But it'll probably be less than that thank god
A couple is 2 that's a whole 365 days difference
+Carter Burkhart +Tyler Jacobson Its actually less then 2 years
Hey don't be so mean.
+Jake At Uni its as easy as flipping a coin
+Jake At Uni It's as simple as looking after a puppy for all its life, then suddenly deciding to hurt it. It'll probably never truly forgive you.
They shouldn't have had him take off the mask. It ruins the effect Sooo much.
It happned to Anakin very quickly.
Well I don't understand why kylo ren had a mask in the first place. I mean it's kind of cool but all of the other sith don't wear masks and the only reason darth vader did was so he could stay alive
Honest question: Do people who are negative about this film actually honestly dislike it or are they just desperate for attention?
They're trolls or "original" purists. They just nitpick the minor flaws in the film and call it trash. But hey, welcome to 2015 where almost everyone on the internet acts like they have a stick up their ass.
they are just scared because this movie is just as good as the originals
+Denigar Anaxarthos Yeah, because the prequels are so good.
+sinister kiid oh, so every body has to love it do they ?
That sound like a terrible audience to be watching a movie with
A large room full of Star Wars geeks dressed up like kids on Halloween, probably stinking of body odour and cheering every ten minutes when you're trying to watch a movie? Sounds like a fucking nightmare tbh.
When I saw it on opening night, the Falcon got more cheers than most of the returning characters
Its plagiarized. So a non film, really its a damned crime and people love it.
The movie was awesome. Also, that scene where bb8 pulls out a lighter for it to look like a thumbs up was hilarious
Jesus Christ A thumbs up was honestly my only thought
+sadlandsirwin my only thought was also that he gave him the middle finger
+Jesus Christ it was a thumbs up, he did it with a lethal tool to say "I still don't like you". Like spelling out "happy birthday" with knives.
+sadlandsirwin That scene was made for idiots to think it was funny, it didn't have any substance to make it funny
tbone martinez Or maybe, you have no sense of humor.
I felt there were 2 flaws with the film:
+Robert Ringuette Really got the feeling that Starkiller was only a excuse. I didn't care much for it in comparison of Ren x Kylo duel.
+Robert Ringuette There was another flaw, and that was Captain Phasma. My god, even for the first movie, what a waste of potential, I really hope she gets more screen time and a badass scene in the next movie, because she was just so stale in this film.
Yeah, Chewie's scream got me too! It was so sad ;(
+Declan Brannigan stale is kind of a harsh way to put it. I would say underused, more set-up than anything else..she probably will play a bigger part later.. but yeah abit disappointing
I got 20 bucks on Rey and Kylo being siblings.
+Sergio Vale da Serra (Mr. V) I think that's her primo
I can see that too. But I'm still leaning on siblings
+Sergio Vale da Serra (Mr. V) I always thought they were cousins.
meh
+Sergio Vale da Serra (Mr. V) I don't think so. Han and Leia didn't really react to her at all, and Leia wasn't even slightly concerned about her being on StarKiller base. It wouldn't surprise me if she was related to the Skywalker family somehow, but I don't think they will be siblings. She could be Lukes kid, but I can't wrap my head around why nobody would have known who she was, or why Luke would have abandoned her on Jakuu to fend for herself.
The "thumbs up", by BB-8... I thought it was the middle finger.
The Storm trooper who said, "And I'll drop my gun" was Daniel Craig!
That was confirmed to be a fake rumor.
+Captain Snapple damn it would be cool if it were true
+Captain Snapple it sounds like him when I re watched it I really heard him
+Captain Snapple Listen to the voice. It's Craig.
I thought Craig was the badass fighting Finn on the field.
I thought it was because Rey awakened then if she is related to Luke he felt that family presents and woke up.
"You have that power too" we didn't see that scene in the movie...I think that is Luke giving it to rey when she was a child!
+Tom Kelly That dialogue is from Jedi.
+Kody H Not the line, "You have that power too"
+Alex Bernal - Yes it is, he says it to Leia. Same scene.
+Alex Bernal yes it is. they just changed the order of the sentences. watch it again. it's on youtube
Probably one of the best experiences of my life, loved it!
How? It wasn't even that good...
+Sam Hawes you're wrong buddy
+Sam Hawes everyone has an opinion, even if yours sucks ass, which is my opinion. The force awakens opening night being one of the most fun nights I have had is also my opinion.
+Eduardo Hernandez i saw the original trilogy not to long ago for the first time. Instantly loved it. Watched episode 1 and i was so disappointed, but the force awakens reminded me so much to the original trilogy. I think i never got so hooked during a movie. I almost cried cause it looked so good and i was glad they didnt fucked it up.
+Office of Naval Intelligence section 3 Intelligence that comment is so good. I'm nicking it!
I did not like this film but I don't hate anyone that does. Honestly if you liked it good for you at least you were able to find enjoyment.
Shinji the Dog I'm glad you're fair about that. That despite the fact you didn't like the movie, you're completely fine and respectful to others for liking it.
I just don't see why others must tell you you're stupid for either liking it or disliking. Why take the enjoyment out of others?
I guess you could say that Chewies going SOLO now
😂😂😂...but no, it seems like he'll be rolling with Rey
well there's always lando........
Rey and Chewy being the new duo gave be a huge grin at the end of the movie. Plus R2D2 fuck man she is dressed for a successful adventure.
Spoiler alert: Rey is a granddaughter of admiral Ackbar!
If the leaks about her being Palpatine's granddaughter are true, this would be better.
Nope... She is a palpatine
palps not ackbar
@@sowmithreddy8178 nah she totally has his eyes
@Iamebubblesflysohigh If only!
This feels like an original trilogy film. I think it is a solid entry in the franchise and will, like the prequels, be appreciated more with time.
Having your main character be weak and stupid and slowly growing to become strong is soo cliche and overdone.
drooleybob Virgin identified ^^ I'm a male.
***** how is he wrong when what he said is undeniably true
I wish we got to see Captain Phasma a little more.
+CNSD75I Yea maybe she could have fucked up in some more dramatic way than she already did.
yea
+CNSD75I Hopefully we do like with Boba Fett in 5&6
+CNSD75I She was just there for merchandising.
Zach Forrester That sucks, they spent all that time hyping her up
I think a lot of Star Wars fans can just never be satisfied!
XD thanks for your comment Jesus

He didnt was honest from the start. I mean the guy is literraly saying he loved the móvie. "Make up your damn minds" is kind of an unfair statement. It's a false dichotomy, since people who disapproved of the sequels clearly didn't mean "We want a movie with a similar plot as the OT".
+Demian Haki EXACTLY!!!!
+Demian Haki Hear hear
People are hypocrites. They are complaining about the opposite things they were complaining about when Tpm came out. The filmmakers just can't win
exactly. when people say the prequels weren't enough like the OT, they meant that they didn't have the same feel. When they say the force awakens was too much like the OT, they meant that it had almost exactly the same plot points. Stuckmann, and anyone who makes this argument, is a fucking moron.
+SinuousCobra8989 it's pretty clear that it's not a bullshit position to take. Read my comment, and then read the original comment of Demian again.
"being a scavenger having to survive by yourself doesn't necessarily make you a great fighter"
Not necessarily, but skilled to some degree it does.
Finn was trained since he was young, yes, but his first battle was at Jakku and look how that turned out. It took a lot for him to actually step up and use all the training he had. And even then he utterly failed against Kylo. Which is completely logical.
Also those who say Finn was a coward clearly didn't watch the film: Finn is a warrior, through and through.
too bad JJ won't direct the next 2 films :(
+1beatcher , it's too bad he directed this one.
I'm kinda scared ? Will jj at least be involved ?? In anything for the story ???
+maya JJ is producing for VIII and IX, so he will have some input.
+Rob Sorbo so.... R2 is now force sensitive??? in low power mode???
+Zyndeco I was more thinking that it's Skywalker sensitive. Call it biometric screening or something.
However, I hope you're right.
the ending shot of this movie was so fucking awesome it gave me chills. i honestly don't think they could've done a better job at introducing Luke.
AGREEEEE
Peter Jackson shot it.
One of the best moments in the whole saga. And the music was so amazing in that scene.
SPOILER ALERT: Behind the wood panel, is wood...
:( i didnt finish watching Wood 2 man
+Azivegu oh no.....
+Tici Toty Tony don't bother watching it sapling dies :P haha
Still a better story than the prequels
Riley Johnston NO!!! THE PREEKWELLS WEAR THE BEST WONS FUK U
Agreed
Kids with cancer is sad. Not this.
@@KahlessTheUnforgettable There are different degrees of sadness. I would never say the way the trilogy worked out is as sad as kids with cancer. Not even The Last Jedi is that terrible.
The Force Awakens is a very well made film and probably better than Return.
I say it's as good as Return, and it's much superior to the prequels.
It's ten times the film rotj is. Way way better in the technical realm, way way way better in the acting department. It's overall a better film. It's on par with the original Star Wars if not slightly better.
+Tyler Jacobson , considering that it's a remake of the original film and its beat structure was entirely predictable, no.
+Tyler Jacobson don't jump on the hype train to !uch
Did anyone else think that when BB 8 put up his lighter he was giving Finn the finger (middle finger)
+BigBadBob 70 Nah, it was just trying to mimic Finn's actions.
no. he was doing thumbs up. Fin gave him a thumbs up first.
It was the finger. BB8 was annoyed with Finn faking like he knew where they needed to go.
Lol I first thought that too
+BigBadBob 70 I interpreted it as "come near me and I'll burn you"
Finn and Rey's interactions with each other felt very rushed and forced (pardon the pun). They're already hugging each other and almost tearing up when Finn leaves Maz's place after only knowing each other for a few hours, not to mention Finn was being dishonest the entire time. I just felt their exchanges where written poorly and kind of glossed over.
+Cory Y The whole film was rushed to me.
Yeah, similar to Avengers Age of Ultron, but not quite as bad
+Harsh Parmar Yeah.... The greatest Jedi of all will be a woman.
+Cory Y Considering what they just went through and how they really didn't know anyone else, I'd say their reactions were pretty genuine.
Mission Impossible 3, that was also a nonstop adrenaline rush...just like The Force Awakens. You know both directed by J.J Abrams
I agree 100%
Preach
+Cameron Manesh he is a bad villian because he isn't some dark edgy emo fuck?
Kylo Ren is the Anakin Skywalker we never got. Loved his character.
Goodbye.
Man if Finn does not awaken the force I'll be pissed
Truth.
+doctorisjoe Maybe he'll have a robotic spine since that wound he received looked pretty fucking nasty. I'm intrigued as to where his character will go as Rey has all the talent but Finn is so damn likeable I just want him along for the ride.
If Finn awakens to Ray keeping him in the friendzone *_then_* I'll be pissed and wish he stayed asleep.
+Daniel Rosa Sorry man. But I think he is already deep in the friendzone lol
I fucking loved The Force Awakens. I really don't get the hate, its just a great movie.
Don't worry. Give it a few years and people will be praising it when the new trilogy comes out.
Its just a cringe version of a new hope
Adam Duffield they're both good movies tho people just don't like me cause they think they know everything
That guy you thought you knew once no people don't like them because they shit all over the Jedi lore that was established in the previous movies, and the extended universe, as well as the other reasons I mentioned in my previous comment.
When Kylo Ren kills Han I so wanted the dialog to go:
"I love you" Han solo said.
"I know." Kylo Ren said, a tear rolling down his cheek. He activated the light saber ripping the light side from his heart and with it the life of his father.
Han Solo looks in to his son's eyes for the last time and gently reaches up and pats him on the cheek his thumb wiping away the tear.
+ayleelya That was a missed opportunity, agreed. Of all the things they pulled from the originals, that was the perfect set up for that line.
+ayleelya damn...that would have been spectacular
+ayleelya It sounds nice on paper, but that would have been an incredibly cheap and unoriginal way to pay homage to the original, it would have soured one of the most iconic and beloved lines in film history. Literally rewatching those movies would ruin those lines since all you would be able to think about would be this death scene. Plus, it was already rehashed in ROTJ, I think it would have added insult to injury using it a third time.
phskeithatkinson the heart wants what the heart wants =D
I'm betting Rey is Luke's daughter and she had some early Jedi training back when Luke had the academy. So when Ben Solo embraced the dark side and destroyed the academy, Luke sent Rey away to protect her.
That was a good theory
She'ld know more than she does (or at least let on) in the beginning of the movie. I think Snuke was the student that turned on Luke, Ben and Rey were twins and were separated.
+Richard Swartz I'm pure sure a Force sensitive like Leia would have recognized her own daughter...
Rey is definitely Luke's daughter. Which means, Mara Jade is now back into the cannon ... ?
+Gabriel RAKOTONAIVO and Daniel Craig as a stormtrooper spotted. He ends up removing some restraints, and dropping some weapon. ^^
+Gabriel RAKOTONAIVO
Haha. Mara Jade. WTF?
+Gabriel RAKOTONAIVO is Clone wars Series and Star wars Rebel are those canon to Movie Universe
+Captain Cold Mara Jade is Luke Skywalker's wife in the Extended Universe lore.
Got to imagine it's going to be brutal when Episode 8 (more than likely) starts off with him learning and having to live with the fact that Han Solo is dead because he failed to keep Han's son from joining the Dark Side.
gorrow1990 I agree although I wouldn't be surprised if Luke felt something in the force like leia did when Han died
Boy.. you were right.
