Growing up in Soo, Michigan I would take the bus across the border to Soo, Ontario, while I was attending Lake Superior State Uninversity. We had to get off at customs & proceed down a long counter. Purses, backpacks, books, etc.were placed on counter too. After providing ID & answering questions we were allowed to proceed to far end of counter where our belongings, after being searched, were slid down to us. We walked out a door & reentered the bus, which then proceeded over the bridge & into Canada. Don't know if they have bus service anymore as I have been gone from there alot of years. Fare was .50!! Lots cheaper than by car. The bus brought everyone to the Soo, Ontario municipal bus terminal where you then could catch a city bus to your local destination.😅
Nice vid ! Its a unique service and honestly a real bargain compared to the private carriers . I was wondering though, Do the drivers on the Tunnel run earn more because its a cross boundary run as opposed to a regular TW or DDOT run in the respective cities?
QUESTION Upon arriving at customs on either side, does the bus wait for the passengers to re-board or do they get back onto the next bus if the customs check in takes longer than usual? Thanks in advance.
On the US side, the bus will have to wait for passengers to reboard, as there are no places to walk to the city streets after clearing customs. On the Canada side, if the customs process takes longer than usual, then the bus may very well leave to continue its route. That has happened to me on a couple of occasions. But when you exit customs, usually you're reboarding the bus from the street, waiting on the street for the bus to come around, or just walking away from customs on the sidewalk to go elsewhere.
Hey, I’m trying to get from Detroit to Canada I wanted to ask, would it be easier to get a bus from Detroit greyhound to toronto or to go to Windsor and get the bus from there? I’m also confused on how to get to these bus stops from the airport
There's no real way to answer how long it might take to clear customs, but it usually doesn't take very long. It all depends on how many people are riding at the time. The Tunnel Bus doesn't go to Detroit Metro Airport. It only does a small loop into Detroit about as far as Little Caesars Arena, before it heads back to the tunnel. You can get off at Jefferson and Woodward, take the Fast Michigan SMART bus from there, and that will go as far as the airport.
Question I’m going to a Detroit tigers game Wednesday, and while crossing the border I know for a fact that I need my passport, do I need other documentations? Or just my passport?
All you need is your passport, unless your nationality is such that you require a visa to enter the United States. Generally, Canadians don't need a visa to enter for tourism purposes.
Do you know if pets are allowed on this bus? My friend will be picking me up from detroit but to get to detroit from toronto this seems like the only option by road.
Pets may be allowed on the bus if they're in a pet carrier. You'll want to call Transit Windsor to confirm. You'll have to deal with customs formalities when taking pets across also, and this is something you'll have to discuss with both US and Canada customs regarding necessary paperwork.
It currently runs hourly, and it leaves the international transit terminal in Windsor on the hour. If this is a night game, you might have to find an alternative way back to Windsor, as the last bus leaves the tunnel platform behind the Mariner's Church in Detroit at 9:41 pm. * This could change in the near future, as the US is winding down all emergency measures regarding COVID, and is expected to expire on May 11th, 2023. www.citywindsor.ca/residents/transitwindsor/service-to-detroit/Pages/service-to-detroit.aspx
Hello, I just wanted to know from where I could buy the tickets for this bus from Windsor to Detroit. It`s online reservation or I should buy it there on site using cash? I have searched a lot and I didn`t find anything. Thanks in advance.
You'd have to go to the international transit terminal in downtown Windsor, ask for a smart ride card, and tell them that you want to add rides for the Tunnel Bus on it. I believe it's $1 for the smart card. Alternatively, you can just pay the $10 fare as you get on the bus. The farebox takes cash as well as smart cards. Hope this helps you out.
There is a SMART bus that can take you from the airport to downtown Detroit. It's called the 261 - Fast Michigan. Just be aware that the bus stop isn't very easy to find if you're unfamiliar with the airport, but it's just $2 to ride. Every other option from Uber/Lyft, the Robert Q shuttle, etc.... is going to cost substantially more, but may prove more convenient, depending on your travel preferences. From my experience, after spending a few days in Niagara Falls during the pandemic, I flew back to Detroit from Buffalo, NY. Got lost in Detroit Metro Airport for at least half an hour while looking for the bus stop. ☺️
Hi, thanks for the video! I'm planning to pick somebody up who's taking the bus from Windsor to Detroit and was wondering which stop would be the best to park and wait for them at? Does the bus stop at the tunnel platform in Detroit allow passengers off? That seemed like the only stop with nearby parking where I could wait for them at.
Unfortunately no. They only pick people up at the platform and leave. The closest spot from there where passengers are dropped off, is at the northeast corner of Jefferson and Randolph, in front of the Millender Center. It's kitty corner from the Mariners' Church.
Do you present passport and documents before getting on the bus or at the end? What was the process at the end? That was the part I really wanted to see but understandable that it couldn’t be filmed lol
You present your passport and documents when you reach customs on the other side. That's going in either direction. You only need to pay the fare upon getting onto the bus. I can't film the customs process, unfortunately. Sorry.
Just wondering what kind of vaccination questions were asked and relevant documentation required when you got off the bus at the checkpoint in Detroit?
@@sarahvandevooren8821 CBP won't ask for vaccination proof from US citizens who enter by right. Canadians are apparently supposed to be carrying vaccination proof still, just in case the border agent asks. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Hi everyone! I would like to know if an officer stops the bus and checks everyone on the bus 🙏🏻 it’s because I wanna go to Michigan and I need with me my dog 🥺
They'll take either cash or one of those tap on cards that work similar to what the old paper tickets did. It's $7.50 to ride in either American or Canadian currency.
@@ashleyaliemenious6038 They'll usually ask you about the purpose of your trip, what you're bringing in, any alcohol, tobacco, firearms, cash on hand, etc.... However, questions may vary. It all depends on the customs officer.

Trailways bus (@ Greyhound) cost $30 to go to Windsor .. it will take you all the way to Toronto for $50 (one way price)
Usually how long it takes to clear custom with all passengers on board? And does the tunnel bus go to Detroit airport?

A Mexican with a US issued visa? You should be okay to cross, but the CBP agents at the border have the final say on whether to grant entry.
