I travel this tunnel between the two countries in 1996 and 2001. It was a great experience. At that time you didn't need a passport. Just a valid Identification card. This is the nineth wonder of the world.
Those yellow box things before you go up to talk to lady. Are those like scanners for stuff in the car? Not cause i dont have anything illegal i just dont want to be blasted with radiation. It looks like they just house the electrical for cameras and sensors but the way they face eachother and you drive though it makes me suspicious
It might look "ancient" , remember this was built around 1930, My first trip though the tunnel was in the mid 1960's and a lot of improvement has been done since.
This reminds me of the Channel Tunnel (Folkestone, UK Calais, France), but, unlike this tunnel, your car gets loaded onto a special train that takes you through the tunnel. It takes about thirty-five minutes to travel the 31 miles through the Channel Tunnel. As of writing, it costs about £100 ($125/$170 US/CA) for one adult to through the tunnel once tomorrow at 9:20. (GMT+1)
Flights probably cost a bit more then £100 (price changes depending on the day) or you could take a ferry because a ferry we got is £185 return (something like that)
I've only crossed the border at the International Bridge in Sault Sainte Marie. I haven't crossed the border since 2010. My experiences weren't the best at customs on either side. The US side were jerks though.
@@pollobuk Do they always enter you into the system with your passport when entering the US by car with a Canadian passport? I have some old record issues, but I was thinking about just trying to drive across, see what happens. Let the wife drive, see what happens... I wonder if they scan every passport, and if it would flag stuff from the early 2000s.
Everyone has to go through immigration / Customs. The entry rules to both countries depend on what country your passport is from. Americans are generally more strict than Canada especially since 9/11 the border has become less friendly.
Only issue I have with the tunnel is if there was an accident you'd be stuck in there for who knows how long, especially if it was busy at the time..
