extremely helpful to see how you get the thread to into the spins to stabilize the art bat as you make the yarn.. love your thoroughness and information. thank you so much.
Wow! Awesome tutorial!! I’ve never attempted anything to do with weaving or spinning, but watching you has made me consider learning to do it!! Thank you!! Even though you did this video 7 years ago, I’m excited to have watched it in 2023!!
Very inspiring i am just learning how to spin on a haldane wheel that was given to me, i have a feeling that the orifice is too small for me to create this yarn , which is a pity as i love it , thankyou for showing the process
Crazy. As I watch how you handle the "novelties" in your batt, it reminds me of how I spin my own "farm wool". I raise my own sheep, wash and process their fleeces myself, and end up with a fiber prep, um, that often has all the fun stuff, nibs, thick spots and the occasional VM. I have a Strauch Petite. So if I want a really smooth prep, it has to go through 3 times. But I tend to "work" the wool like you do. So even when I haven't carded in other fiber or textures, I tend to deal with the wool during the spin like you are demonstrating. Fun to watch!
GREAT great video...I am so so new to spinning. I purchased my first wheel a few months ago. I am in my very early 60's and thought ( and sometimes still do) I am too old to start learning something like this...I love it and learned so much from you..I had wanted to learn how to spin fingering weight but art yarn is what I am doing really like it..so thank you..
mary dillon You are never too old to learn. I started spinning at the age of 67 and just love it. Was too busy working to have spinning fun but now I can and am always learning. I love the art yarns. Happy spinning!
Wow!!! That is just beautiful! I could watch you spin yarn all day. It's like magic but so relaxing at the same time. And when it's over you have the most beautiful yarn. Thank you!
I am spellbound watching you do this. Lovely yarn and its looks so relaxing to do - although it probably isn't if you get things tangled up!! I just wish I had the space to be able to do something like this - maybe one day. Keep creating lovely yarns.
Hi Stacy. Came across this video by chance. You have so inspired me to dust off my spinning wheel and start spinning again. You have a natural gift to be able to connect with people so effortlessly. I will be following your links and hope to see you on facebook. Thanks again for being a wonderful muse.
I sure miss watching your videos. I hope you are doing well and still doing the "fibery things" You have so much fiber talent, girl!!! Since you did the autowrap, does that mean you just finish the yarn and don't need to ply it with anything else? It is gorgeous yarn!
I Love that it is soothing to just watch people spin. I could watch for hours. I love spinning. I really do. Its such a fun way to create and let our art flag fly!
Stacy that was such a wonderful 2-part video series. Thank you so much, I learned a lot and what a beautiful way to begin my day spinning alongside you and your rascally animals :-))
You are an incredible artist, my dear! I am so grateful to you for sharing your craft with us! I cant wait to try my hand at dyeing wool, making batts, and spinning something amazing thanks to your awesome instructions! I'll be using a drop spindle until I have enough money to get a wheel of my own!! Thank you again girl! Watching you spin is so mindblowing. Your artistic flow is a beautifully organic thing. Hope you're well! :)
Thank you so much, Stacey, it encourages me a lot. I just bought an antic spinning wheel, I know it's not the best technically, but I think it's not so bad. Tomorrow I will buy whool by a farmer, and wash it, card it , when the weather will be better. I'm so excited, I can't wait ! Yes, I'll keep you posted on how it's going. Have a good day !
Lived the art yarn video and I like it you say fibreistas, thank you for sharing how you make your art yarn your instructions are very clear. Happy New year, be well, be happy, be safe. Cheers!
i'm a 50 year old late newbie but this is awesome even though i don't understand lol. its hard to learn anything living in florida not a lot of use but i do love crocheting even though i only know like 4 stitches lol but i'm trying just wish i could get beautiful yarn like this here so tried of just joann and micheals
I usually do a simple hot but not too hot soak for about 20 minutes trying not to agitate too much. Spin excess water in the spin only cycle of my washing machine and hang to dry. If it twists, I will add a weight to the end to block the skein while drying. In a garment, I will only hand wash or dry clean.
Hi, I am subscribed to you channel! I really enjoy your videos. I would like to learn to do art yarn, thick in part and unusual yarn combos, etc... And I would like to use the tools you are using. Could you do a tutorial on how to pick a carding drum, brushes, mat and spinning tools. What works for you? What do you like? Thank you so much. I really appreciate it! Keep making beauty! Thank you again.
Stacy, thanks so much for this wonderful video. I'm wondering what the content and weight is of the thread/yarn you're wrapping with. Also, I need to get one of those adjustable flyers, I'm so sick of moving every time into the hooks.
I am interested in doing a new hobby, I am a knitter but would love to make my own yarn. Any suggestions on where to go to start spinning for supply's? I am in love with the art yarn. Great video.
Jlee T I would suggest trying to get to a fiber festival near you. I know that sounds like a huge trip, but great if you love yarn as well. At a fiber festival you will get to try a bunch of tools for hand spinning. Some of them can get pricey so to actually be able to try a bunch of them and decide what a good starting price point for yourself based on how much you like what you try.
janice masson I usually let it sit on the spindle for a day or two. I will soak it in hot water for about 20 minutes to set the twist, spin out the water in my washing machine and weight it when I hang to dry.
Watching your art yarn video and need to know how to control the thread. I need some tension on it as I feed the batts. Can; you suggest tension control?? Thank you
For this yarn I am not tensioning it at all and just letting the thread hang out at the orifice. There so the thread just loosely wraps itself like a bit of a tangle. I am spinning more like I would for a single ply the thread is just a wild texture. Does that make sense?
I have been crocheting for thirteen years and would really love getting into spinning. Could you give me some tips on how to go about choosing a spinning wheel and how much I should expect to spend? I live in southeast Georgia in the US.
Surviving Child Care buying a spinning wheel can be like buying a bicycle, different people will Like different wheels for so many reasons. What works for me might be uncomfortable for you. Altitude of it seems to do with body frame. If you are able, a fiber festival is one of the best places to be able to try a few wheels out. There are usually venders which a variety of brand and styles. Don't be afraid to ask to try even if you have not spun on one before. Be aware of the availability and price of the spindles. You will end up buying more. The prices can run $300 for a Babe wheel made out of PVC pipe to $1600 for a really nice Majacraft Aura art yarn wheel. You can get a really good solid wheel for about $750-$800. You might be able to find a little cheaper used, but they generally do not depreciate that much.
You might also consider trying a drop spindle first. Many hand spinners start that way. It is a great way to begin while you look for your perfect wheel.
It is a random mill end. I live in NC and i can sometime find them in the thrift stores. Left overs from a once flourishing textile industry here. Any sewing thread will work. cones for embroidery machines will also work.
Hey!! Very new spinner here, super helpful video! I’m curious, does art yarn unravel if it’s not plied? I think you said you just gave this skein a “bath”, does that keep it from unraveling? Thanks!!
Thank you for watching. If the single is not plied a warm or hot water soak will gel set the twist. I also let it rest on the bobbin at least 24 hours before I skein it up to soak.
For the most part I don’t if I wet finish and block the finished skein. Spin a little looser, let the auto wrap thread kind of hold the fibers in check.
HobieHolland I know art yarn can totally be done on a drop spindle. Christiane of Three Ravens has some great info on spinning art yarn on a drop spindle. But I am not sure about doing the aautowrap with a drop spindle.
extremely helpful to see how you get the thread to into the spins to stabilize the art bat as you make the yarn.. love your thoroughness and information. thank you so much.
I am so glad my video helped. I just recorded a couple of new spinning videos last week. Editing this week to post this month.
Wow! Awesome tutorial!! I’ve never attempted anything to do with weaving or spinning, but watching you has made me consider learning to do it!! Thank you!! Even though you did this video 7 years ago, I’m excited to have watched it in 2023!!

You could probably spin similar without extreme texture. I think for the most part this was not terribly full of locks or anything big.
My crochet fingers are making grabby hands! Gorgeous.
As a weaver, I daydream of yarn like this. I might need to learn to spin!🤩
Crazy. As I watch how you handle the "novelties" in your batt, it reminds me of how I spin my own "farm wool". Fun to watch you spin. Very relaxing. I get very relaxed spinning too Thumbs up
Wow!!! That is just beautiful! I could watch you spin yarn all day. It's like magic but so relaxing at the same time. And when it's over you have the most beautiful yarn. Thank you!
I have always want to do spin my own yarn, but not sure where to purchase the wheel. Really like your process in how you made it look so easy.
This video made me unreasonably happy. :D
Yoga mat! Brilliant hack!!!! Thanks Stacey!
Beautiful Art Yarn
I am just getting into yarn again, used to crochet and now want to learn it from carding to spinning to crochet!
I am spellbound watching you do this. Lovely yarn and its looks so relaxing to do - although it probably isn't if you get things tangled up!! I just wish I had the space to be able to do something like this - maybe one day. Keep creating lovely yarns.
Good video. Inspires spinning! Thank you! Sincerely from Russia!!!
Beautifull! I love it!! Congrats!!
Thank you so much!!

Fabulous Stacey... your sharing "how to" is always so clear!!! Can't wait to try this!
This is so cool. You spin like I do! I also pull the yarn out, rather than hold it steady. Good tutorial!
Really helpful demo. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
So glad I found you again! I followed you years ago when you went under another id!!
Loved the autowrap...can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing!

Yes. Not plied again with another single. The final yarn is more like a thick single with a tangle of thread along the length.
I really enjoyed watching this video! Hopefully I can try this sometime. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Happy spinning!
really enjoyed this demo - I have not yet mastered spinning and really do want to learn - you make it look so easy...
A very good and helpful video ......love this yarn 🤗
Really excellent video, thank you - clear and straightforward and with gorgeous results.
Wow that looks so relaxing! I want to try. Thank you
great video on how to spin auto-wrapped art yarn. I found it very informative, clear and fun also. I will have to try now. Thank you x
Wow that is so cool ! Thanks for sharing with us !!!
That was so cool! I could watch you do that for hours!!! I will have to add making my own ball of yarn to my bucket list.

Absolutely beautiful yarn!
I LOVE this method. I'm inspired.
I just found your channel and I love you!!
Aw, thanks! Love you back.
This Video is marvelous ! 😊👍
Thank you
I'm in nc as well , u made this so easy looking . mine rips away from me
On sped up video it is hard to see how slow I am actually treadling. Sometimes pulling the batt/Roland apart just a bit to fluff it out helps too.
Totally love it,
Mesmerizing!
So talented!
Love your yarn
This was very helpful, thanks!
Amazing. Thanks for the video!
I want to do this so much
Awesome video. It totally got it!
beautiful

Wow beautiful! Can you remember about how much that art batt weighed. Thanks for sharing.
Generally I get between a 2.5 and 3 oz batt from this drum carder. I want to say this batt was closer to 2.5 oz
I love love love your work.I am a beginner and trying to learn. Can you kindly explain how did you wash it?
I usually do a simple hot but not too hot soak for about 20 minutes trying not to agitate too much. Spin excess water in the spin only cycle of my washing machine and hang to dry. If it twists, I will add a weight to the end to block the skein while drying. In a garment, I will only hand wash or dry clean.
Awesome
Wonderful thank you!
Awesome love it
Love it, great work :)
Thank you, this is so helpful!
If you don't ply it, how does it not twist out of shape? Confused 🤔
I usually let it sit on the spindle for 24 hours then soak in hot water to set the twist.
So pretty 😍

Great video! Thank you.
WOW!! très inspirant!! Merci
Genial!!! Great!!! Greetings from Argentina.
Beautiful yarn thanks :-))
Stacy, thanks so much for this wonderful video. I'm wondering what the content and weight is of the thread/yarn you're wrapping with. Also, I need to get one of those adjustable flyers, I'm so sick of moving every time into the hooks.
The auto wrap us a thin mill end thread that is similar to a cotton sewing thread.
Beautiful yarn :o)

have a question on using angelina. how lightfast and durable is it. have used flash years ago is it comparable? Loved watching you spin!
So far, I am finding angelina holds up pretty well. But most of my handspun I hand wash.
How can I find the link to the bag of fibers for purchase you spoke of in your video?
Eunice TIMBROOK the will be back in the shop after the first of the year, website is getting a overhaul.
