    Hello Maya!
I was very happy to see that another spinner spins like me and for the same reason. Due to health problems I switched to an e-spinner and because of my wrists and sore muscles I came up with the idea of spinning in a similar way, but I also turned my left hand so that the two thumbs point to each other. So I can now happily spin while watching TV without my hands and arms hurting later.
    warm greetings to you
    Elvira

@@janet-myspinonthings7016 In my case, I had problems with my thumb joint before. It was inflamed and clicked. As now I can spin as much as I want.

Oh boy! I’ve just discovered your channel and watched this through. I started spinning when I got a wheel two months ago, and I have instinctively used this method outlined here. I found the old way gave me cramp so my hand decided to do this! My hands have knit for years (70) so are more supple than most my age, but I still do get stiff.
    Thanks!
Now to watch all the rest……!

Same here. I only started spinning a little less than a year ago. Back issues mean I need to be very careful, bad eyes mean I need to find ways to see and feel what I’m doing better. Holding the fibre this way means more relaxed shoulders, less strain on the hands, no tendency to hunch over when you want to see, more fingers ’checking’ your fibre.
It also means you are smoothing out the fibres more which is important when spinning lace weight and frog hair yarns, which is what I prefer doing: less breakage of the singles.

Thank you for this video. I find your method so great. It’s alleviating my thumb pain and enabling me to spin after a back injury as I am more relaxed. I also rest my hands on a cushion so that my arms are supported.

So interesting, Janet. The position of your hand is similar for me when I spin on a drop spindle. The steaming tip is genius. Thanks again for a very informative and lovely video.

Yes I agree and I find so many people can take to the drafting on the drop spindle (especially with park and draft) very quickly. My wrist loves this position. Thank you

Thank you so much for this. The thumb on my forward hand doesn't always want to spin as long as I do, and this helps a lot.

I discovered this way of spinning after a broken wrist meant I had to find an alternative way to hold my hands. I now can spin for as long as I want. Next for me is trying the steaming , thanks for sharing.

This adds a lot of spinning time for me as my hand and wrist pain was preventing me from spinning as much as I wanted to, thank you do much!! I got so excited I treadled faster and overspun my sample!

Oh this is how I've been spinning from the start... It's a great way to deal with having, say, a lot of bulk on your chest, too. You can relax your elbows instead of having to try and push your chest inward to get your hands in front with that broken wrist position.
