That song, Presto and Available light are a few of Rush's hidden gem from their later stuff. Rarely reviewed but always appreciated by listeners. Keep doing Rush!!!!!!!
This song has a special place in my heart. I had an interview at MSG this one afternoon and they took about 10 of us on a tour of the arena and we were sitting there and suddenly we heard a commotion on stage. Little did I realize that RUSH was playing that night and came out to do their soundcheck and they did this song. I got the job and an invite to come see the show that night. ✌
Alex's solo on this song was done in one take. He likes to take a few runs, but after he finished the first take. They pretty much said "nope you're good!" I would highly recommend La Villa Strangiato or Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left. The first is instrumental heaven and the second is jaw dropping in their level of talent. To see Geddy Lee sing, play a double neck, keyboards and Taurus pedals is mind blowing. Glad I came across this, and it was nice to see a reaction of a song that you don't hear much about. Take care ✌
Agree on Xanadu & LVS - even though everybody who reacts does those 2, they're still SO spectacular and well-played.. and really show off their musical talents. Should go right to the top of the list.
Welcome to the Rush family! This album, Roll the Bones, had some mixed reactions, and it actually left me a bit cold on first listen. As time went by I came to appreciate it more and more, and now it's one of my favorites. This particular song pretty much sums up my feelings about relationships
Just posted a reaction from their Counterparts album if you'd like to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/wsuCSHIqA18/v-deo.html Thanks for watching and hope to see you again soon! :) - Lex
One of those songs that is criminally unrated and underplayed. It's a love song without being a love song, its sums up the entire of the theme of the album (chance) and considering what the band had just gone through... a loving tribute to loved ones.
Alex's solo on this song is sublime.... and not only the solo, but the smaller fills along the way.. superb! Great song to review! Love Rush... and both of you! Regards, ALinCAL
Saw them live in alpine outdoor theater in the 90's and brought my wife (who hates Rush BTW) she was standing and cheering but when this song transitioned into the "grace " bridge, she melted. It was a good night ;) she still doesn't like them over a stereo but we went to a few more live shows and she turns into a rush lover.
GUYS!!! One of our fellow subscribers gave us a great idea (thank you, Mr. Mojo Risen), we will be doing a LIVE WATCHPARTY so that we can share our reaction to the documentary RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage with you! Check out the details here: ua-cam.com/video/_uLAU6uP3ok/v-deo.html It's this Saturday (3/6/21) at 6pm MST (8pm EST)! Would love to see as many of you and chat! :) Sending peace and can't wait, Lex
So much fun watching you discover Rush,it's bringing me back to when I felt like you are now 💖❣ Give the album Snakes and Arrows a try. Far Cry is awesome, Good news first, and for an instrumental The main monkey business. I don't think you'll be disappointed 🥰
This is a "relationship" song for Rush. They didn't have many but, in their case, quality wins out over quantity. Another relationship song they had was on the Hold Your Fire album from 1987. The song is called "Open Secrets". You should check it out! Yes, Alex's guitar work on this song was very Bluesy! Excellent work, Alex! Last, Geddy's name has a hard-G sound, not soft; like "gold". Geddy Lee. He was born Gary Weinrib and his Immigrant Grandmother could not pronounce "Gary" like an American, but "Geddy", in her Eastern European accent! She pronounced Gary "Geddy" and thus was born Geddy Lee!! :)
Thank you for correcting us on pronounciation and for the suggestion! I absolutely LOVE the origin story about his name - I’ll never get it wrong again!
@@NicknLex, you guys know about Geddy's parents, right? How and where they met? Geddy's parents met at Dachau, during the WWII Holocaust. They later got moved to Bergen-Belson and then Auschwitz. Somehow they survived but I know that Geddy's Grandmother was instrumental in helping them survive. She kept them together and, somehow, they made it through.
Let's not forget the beautiful "Different Strings" and "Entre Nous" (French for "Between Us") ... the songs are about love/relationships, but in such a complex, mature and satisfying way. Then again, it is Neil-freakin-Peart. Sample from Entre Nous: "We are planets to each other Drifting in our orbits To a brief eclipse Each of us a world apart Alone and yet together Like two passing ships" Oh yeah, and almost forgot about "Tears". (makes me melancholy though)
Great reaction. I love this song from Roll The Bones. The music sounds like Halloween, thus the title. The key message is "I believe there is a ghost of a chance that we'll find someone to love...and make it last." The last part "And make it last." is the part Neil wanted to emphasize when he wrote the lyrics to this song.
It's nice to hear someone reacting to something not that obvious. I bought this record, when it came out. I haven't noticed before that Geddy's playing a fretless bass. You can hear it clearly.
@@pasit1738 Thats completely incorrect, this was recorded on Geddy's red Wal. The only song Geddy has ever recorded on a fretless was Malignant Narcissism from Snakes & Arrows when Fender sent him a Jaco signature model, he recorded the song and asked them to make him the same bass with frets.
such an underrated tune but so so good and i'm so glad I was able to see this tour live !! thank you Rush and thank you guys for doing this for me !! maybe an overlooked tune ?
Yes, this is an absolutely beautiful Rush track from the Roll The Bones album from 1991. Often overlooked and rarely reacted to, so this was a pleasant surprise to see actually. Rush fans are fiercely loyal to the band, many of which, including myself, have been fans of theirs for over 40 years. The drummer, Neil Peart, died this year unfortunately, bringing the bands discography to a close. Their back catalogue is immense with albums filled with music that move with the times. Take any decade from the late 60's onwards and travel a journey of musical diversity that takes the band to their rightful place as rock legends.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It is very unfortunate that he passed away, but luckily we were left with decades worth of content to serve as his legacy. Thanks for joining us and hope to hear from you again on another video. Be well! - Nick
Your reaction was great. Alex's guitar work continues to be underrated by most so your mention of it was appreciated. I also ADORED your beautiful dogs reaction as well. Very nice!
This is a great song to show off the mature Rush. The band in its 3rd decade, with all of the playing, songwriting, and vocal skill that they have accumulated. Fantastic!
Just found y'alls channel today. I regret to have missed the "LIVE WATCHPARTY" done the other day. I love seeing folks experience Rush for the first time. I've been a fan of Rush since high school, starting somewhere after 1979. I've seen Rush live in concert so many times, I have truthfully lost count. I had a customer, who was in Canada, and Rush actually performed at her high school in their early days. I think she had said it was their prom, but I could be mistaken. I've taken my son to see Rush in concert, I think it has been four times, the last time being what was filmed for the Rush: Clockwork Angels Tour video. We were blessed to have second row seats, with Alex Lifeson playing right in front of us. I believe that my son and I are in the videos for each and every song. We definitely will never forget the experience.
Believe it or not, this song did receive some airplay on the radio in the NY City area. Happens to be one of my favorites from a time there was this niche group of 70's/80's bands transitioning to 90's styles - Queensryche, Billy Joel, REM, John Mellencamp, etc. This is also one of the last Rush albums I can listen to cover-to-cover and never skip a track on.

With these lyrics, Neil offers a pragmatic approach to the concept of love. One little change in either's timeline could have resulted in them not meeting or doing so under different circumstances. Very easily, each could have found love with someone else. He proposes that love is not magic formed by destiny, fate, eternal love, astrology, religion, or anything mystical. Yes, it is special, but not magic. It requires work, respect, admiration, desire, and all kinds of other emotions and compromises.
On a point of order, Rush have produced "concept" albums from the outset - it's what they do (notwithstanding their Progressive rock mantle) - they've always written in 'chapters', & from which you see their evolution as one of most iconic ensembles that ever came together.... :)
You already know I'm devoted Rush fan. Loved this track. That been said - Being I am new to your channel and a musician of over 50 years. I surfed through your videos in search of stuff you haven't heard yet. This is without a doubt, out of all my years of playing and listening the most soulful feeling guitar solo I've ever experienced. "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic. Don't let the title put you off. Eddie Hazel just breaks the mold here. It's so beautifully played it would move you to tears. So give it a listen even if you don't do a reaction video.
Catching up on your Rush reactions.... and I am surprised that you picked this one as the first! Amazing... I mean its a great song. Have fun listening to the entire catalogue.... it's huge, and there is so much goodness.
Presto and Roll the Bones were the first couple of Rush albums that were new when I started getting into them. Obviously these 2 albums aren't considered their best but both have a special place in my heart. I used to have a Roll the Bones t-shirt back in college days. Ghost of a Chance, Dreamline, and Bravado were my favorites from this album.
"Spirit of Radio" will put you in one good mood- possibly for the whole week. A Rush MUST, anyone would tell you. Alex, Neil, and Geddy reach perfection with this one.
My first Rush concert wow you must react to a song live concert as great on stage as on records. Roll the bones another Nice album that we apreciate like a good wine with age
Haha. Jeddy Lee. It's Geddy bc his grandma pronounced his name, Gary with an accent. Roll the Bones was one of the indoor concerts I've seen. This song gave me goosebumps
I've been a subscriber since nearly the beginning of your channel and somehow missed watching this. It's a good song, I'm hit or miss on what songs I've heard after the "Signals" album. And this I've never heard. Plus it's great to see Marley play a full co-star role on the video.
After almost 35 years my wife & I think of this as one of "our songs". Alex's solo is spectacular in my opinion. Very expressive, very emotive textures he evokes with the volume swells and the brilliant use of minor modes to convey a feeling. This was a fun one to watch as I rarely see anyone reacting to these Rush 'deep tracks'. "Prime Mover" and "Time Stand Still" from the album "Hold Your Fire" would be really good ones to add to your collection. This is from the album "Roll the Bones" which is a concept album. All of the songs stand alone but if you listen to them and really pay attention to the lyrics you will find that they all have a common frame of reference. The phrase "to roll the bones" means to throw dice. The element of 'random chance' in our lives. "I believe there's a ghost of a chance" is where this song anchors itself to that motif. As a matter of fact you will find that several of Rush's albums are like that. Not like "Caress of Steel", "2112" or "Hemispheres" with side long extravaganza production pieces. I'm talking abut albums like "Hold Your Fire". "Presto", "Counterparts", "Vapor Trails", "Snakes & Arrows" and even "Clockwork Angels".
Thanks for sharing and for the suggestions! We will definitely add those to the countless list of Rush songs we’re eager to react to! Glad you enjoyed and hope to see you back m! :) - Lex
I'm much older so started in 1976 and 2112. I then discovered All The World's a Stage, which led me back to their older albums. Their older stuff was more "epic", until Permanent Waves when they shortened things up. I would recommend Caress of Steel. Bastille Day as a starter, damn!!!
I should have mentioned that I have been a fan since when they played at our high school in the early 70’s, and I have some personal connections with them.
Finding Ghost of Chance and then doing a reaction video earned a subscription,. (PS loved the groovy dance) (and yes Rush does conceptual albums! :) So, A RUSH song that I would like for you guys to listen to is "The Garden", the last song from the very last album.
Thanks for your support; glad you enjoyed! That sounds like a great one to do, may want to wait for that one since it's the last of the last - I want to get closer to them before I hear their goodbye! Thanks for the suggestion and sending peace, Lex :)
Rush are one of the greatest prog/rock & roll bands. Can you guys also give some thought to the band Rainbow's "stargazer" and "gates of Babylon". You guys will love it.
Especially after what happened to the Professor losing his daughter and wife so close together. So so sad. Those lyrics are so poignant and hit me hard everytime 💙🤘🎶
I first heard this track right before I moved to Houston, Texas back in late 1991. Or it could have been later around ‘92. As usual, Rush pulled it off in spite of the MTV garbage back then. Even Bad Company, the Eagles, and Blue Oyster Cult were gone by then. The echoey sound effect Rush guitarist used after the part of “state of Grace” is a chorus pedal, mixed with synthesizers. Now then, give Blue Oyster Cult’s “Shooting Shark” a whirl; the 7-minute album version from 1983.
you need to see them live to get the full Rush experience.....live on video counts.....seen them 12 glorious times in my life.... Xanadu (off of Exit Stage Left live album) live will blow you away....it does everyone....
I was fortunate to see Rush in concert. The year was 2010. Tour was their Time Machine tour. Tour's setlist was their songs from late 70's to mid 2000's or about 3 and 1/2 hours of music. 2015 was their last to tour when they did R40 tour. Reason for stopped touring is that Alex and Neil were had issues with their bodies (I don't think Neil's cancer showed up or it did).
I think this came out as a single in early ‘92, it’s a love song but also touches on Peart’s atheism. Freewill and some other songs hit that subject a little as well
Rush roll the bones and counterparts are my 2 favorite Rush albums ever My fav rush songs are Show don't tell Roll the bones Dreamline Stick it out Animate Nobody's hero Test for echo Far cry
I've been a Rush fan since 1983. I was 14 when I first heard their live album Exit..stage Left, and I've loved their music ever since. Although, for me they peaked at Moving Pictures, they continued to make great albums, and this song would be very high in my Rush chart. I always found this song very moving. It seems incredible that may people consider Rush an 'unemotional' band.
As a musician, I have to point out the song ends in an actual ghost-note, as I have the sheet music. That's pretty cool.
Where is that ghost of that chance- note? Drums, bass, or guitar 🎸?
WOW!! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming - thank you infinitely!

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for joining us! :) - Lex
It is SO hard for me to say Ghost of a Chance is one of my favorites only because there are so,so many "Favorites" BUT, it is!!!
Haha. Jeddy Lee. It's Geddy bc his grandma pronounced his name, Gary with an accent. Roll the Bones was one of the indoor concerts I've seen. This song gave me goosebumps
I've always liked this song. Different vibe for them, but so Rush.
I've been a subscriber since nearly the beginning of your channel and somehow missed watching this. It's a good song, I'm hit or miss on what songs I've heard after the "Signals" album. And this I've never heard. Plus it's great to see Marley play a full co-star role on the video.
20 years ago this song was on the jukebox and I'd play it over and over again after feeding a $5 bill.
To me, This is the best song of Roll the Bones Album and One of the best song of RUSH.
:) - Lex
Interesting point of view- did not see that but now I do.
Ghost of a Chance is a 1000%
classic..... awesomtasctic
Check out the camera eye from moving pictures, or even red barchetta from moving pictures
Nick holding the "baby" was so cute.
Rush on... 😉
"Battle Scar" - all of the members of Rush with Max Webster (Kim Mitchell)
I'm much older so started in 1976 and 2112. I then discovered All The World's a Stage, which led me back to their older albums. Their older stuff was more "epic", until Permanent Waves when they shortened things up. I would recommend Caress of Steel. Bastille Day as a starter, damn!!!
It’s unbelievable that the amazing Neil Pert has left us nobody was close to doing what he did just listen to those drums
Love the song and your reactions. You got to listen power windows album. Middle town dreams is Awsome song.
Keep up the great work you to.
Great reactions! Thank you for respecting their music and allowing me to find newness in it again. You have a new subscriber!
Thank you for your support! :) - Lex
I should have mentioned that I have been a fan since when they played at our high school in the early 70’s, and I have some personal connections with them.
Finding Ghost of Chance and then doing a reaction video earned a subscription,. (PS loved the groovy dance) (and yes Rush does conceptual albums! :)
So, A RUSH song that I would like for you guys to listen to is "The Garden", the last song from the very last album.
Thanks for your support; glad you enjoyed! That sounds like a great one to do, may want to wait for that one since it's the last of the last - I want to get closer to them before I hear their goodbye! Thanks for the suggestion and sending peace, Lex :)
Great choice from Roll the Bones!
Indeed it was! Thanks for your view and stay tuned for more Rush reactions to come! :) -Lex
Rush are one of the greatest prog/rock & roll bands. Can you guys also give some thought to the band Rainbow's "stargazer" and "gates of Babylon". You guys will love it.
The follow-up, "Neurotica," is my favorite from Roll The Bones. It's rather funky, in my humble opinion.
This is my fave rush record. Roll the bones itself has my favourite lyrics.
Especially after what happened to the Professor losing his daughter and wife so close together. So so sad. Those lyrics are so poignant and hit me hard everytime 💙🤘🎶
My favorite Rush song. Beautiful.
My favorite Rush song.😊
Love this reaction to one of my fav's off this album. Time to hit a couple off Counterparts. Animate and Nobody's Hero are awesome songs. Rock On!
My favorite song from " Roll the Bones"
Time Stand Still needs a review- it gets better and more timely the older you get.
Please react to the last song in the Presto album: Available Light. It is a jewel.
Love this one! I was in college when this came out.
Neil has some awesome cymbal work in this song.
One of their best songs. Sometimes their subtle stuff is better than their harder songs.
I was fortunate to see Rush in concert. The year was 2010. Tour was their Time Machine tour. Tour's setlist was their songs from late 70's to mid 2000's or about 3 and 1/2 hours of music. 2015 was their last to tour when they did R40 tour. Reason for stopped touring is that Alex and Neil were had issues with their bodies (I don't think Neil's cancer showed up or it did).
not sure if you've done these, but you MUST do- Losing It, The Camera Eye, and Available Light
I think this came out as a single in early ‘92, it’s a love song but also touches on Peart’s atheism. Freewill and some other songs hit that subject a little as well
Geddy Lee the Bird man no one
Can ever match his voice back
In the days.
Love a truly dedicated Rush Fan

I've been a Rush fan since 1983. I was 14 when I first heard their live album Exit..stage Left, and I've loved their music ever since. Although, for me they peaked at Moving Pictures, they continued to make great albums, and this song would be very high in my Rush chart. I always found this song very moving. It seems incredible that may people consider Rush an 'unemotional' band.
Try the live performance of their Snakes and Arrows dvd. Differently arranged but still amazing
OMG I LOVE THESE TWO!!! lol
Love you back!!!
