On another occasion, playing Sunderland, he did exactly the same thing, knocking their winger out with a deliberate elbow when they were converging at a combined speed of well over 30 mph. He should have been banned for life.

John Terry was in trouble, but also got lucky. That physio that ran on immediately had just been there helping another player before the corner kick. He was actually the physio for the other team, also England who John Terry was captain of at the time. Usually the referee calls the physio if needed, but he saw, and just ran straight on to deal with it. True human nature of the good kind.

There has never been a death in football as a result of another players actions (thankfully). There have been deaths tho, most common being heart attacks.
The closest to a player inflicted action are the career ending injurings, and yes, there have been players prosecuted for serious bodily injury, including mutilation, disfigurement, or any harm that limits the victim's ability to function physically.
They have to be refered to police by FIFA tho, since they need to determine if it was 100% intentional to cause injury or if it was just a tackle gone wrong.

Talking for the Premier League, as it's the main thing I know, if a player commits a violent act upon on another player during the game, then that could be charged as a crime in English law. Just because they're taking part in a sport, and being professional sportsmen, doesn't exempt them from the law. Deliberately injuring someone, or intending to, is punishable by law.

The Eduardo incident was one of the worst I've ever seen, his ankle and foot actually separated in his football socks.
    It was horrendous.

Did he really just say that? "You don't just die for a minute bro, you either die or you don't, click-bait". How can he think you can't die for a minute? Did he even go to school? It's only February but I'm thinking that'll be the dumbest thing I hear all year.

Roy Keane's hit job on Haaland is not as bad as it looks it's definitely not the worst. Shumacher's assault on Batiston is attempted murder and the man still suffers to this day from the injuries he received.

Given it's clearly an American clip you've reacted to i'm surprised Leonardo's elbow on Tab Ramos from the game between Brazil and the US at the 1994 World Cup isn't on the list. It fractured his Skull.

There's no way Shawcross deserves to be 5 on this list. That was a heavy tackle but nowhere near as malicious as the Witsel tackle for example.

Duncan Ferguson headbutted an opposition player during a game in Scotland and went to prison for it.
