A Brit here and my take on those 10 places would be forget Brighton, it's just a seaside town, substitute Northumberland north of Newcastle, lots of castles (one was used in the Harry Potter movies - Alnwick I think), then there's the iconic Bamburgh castle, used in loads of movies, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne only accessible at low tide, and the Farne Islands. Lots of stunning, empty beaches (it tends to be cold!) I'd say Oxford OR Cambridge, not both. I live about 2 miles from the beach shown at 9.16 Burton Bradstock i.e. on the Jurassic Coast, which is a World Heritage Site and the place to visit there would be Lyme Regis and Charmouth, lovely beaches and you can go fossil hunting. I'd also recommend Dartmoor or Exmoor as I don't think you have moorland in the USA. Exmoor also has some very dramatic coastline. You could check out some of these places, at street level, on Google Earth.

I would give Brighton a miss and also Stonehenge. I live just over 20 mins away from the stones and it's just a pile of rocks and expensive to get in to view them. You get a better view from driving past them. Cornwall would have been on my list.
@@anitawhite2669 Hmmmm, maybe, but I did find Stonehenge quite mystical (I was there at a summer solstice), and there's lovely countryside around it, Salisbury and the New Forest near by.
Brighton's great for young people I loved it there.

They left out all of Northumberland, which is definitely underrated. And there is all of Yorkshire, not just York, with its dramatic coastline, dales, and moors.
And the beaches stunning the coast line beautiful...... like golden sands Mablethorpe beach.. never there..
Yes. But shhh. That’s my best place and I don’t want to happen to Northumberland, that’s happened to the other place I love which is Norfolk. That used to be a Secret. Ruined now. Would be awful if the Northumbrian coast was commercialised. The weather will prevent that 😅.
The whole of Yorkshire is a dud, all you have is drug dealers and prostitutes. Hardly a great endorsement.
Left out , apart from York, the biggest county in England. An American tour. I was once resting in a Lay Bye at Bowness when a Tour bus full of Americans pulled in. The American Guide announced a 5 Minute stop to" take snaps". He then announced " OK, back on the Coach folks, that's "The Lakes" now onto Edinburg" ( MIs- pronouncing Edinburgh ) I think the tour must have been " How to see the UK in a day. or Europe in a Week".
Machu Picchu is a wonderful site, but just for context it isn't all that old. The buildings still in use in Oxford, Cambridge Chester etc, are actually older. It's 500-600 years old, Stonehenge was already 4500 years old when it was built.
It was not even historically significant. It was barely in use both in regularity or duration. A gimmick vanity project, but scenically visitable
I was under the impression that the origin of those places was older and that the subsequent culture of central America that lived there in more recent history state that they found the foundations and all the large masonry - and built on top.
I'm no scholar so I just wanted to ask.

If you want to see wild horses go to Dartmoor in the south, where therefore loads of ponies running wild, just not a good idea to try touching them!
I can’t believe you were in Bath and didn’t go into the actual Roman Baths. The cost of 4 pints!!! It so worth the cost. An personal audio presentation from around the exterior, brings the whole place to life. The whole self tour takes about an hour and is so interesting. It’s one of those places that looks boring, but it most definitely isn’t. What a missed opportunity.

Which is not the case, the university is just integrated into the cities.
oxford has another university in headington called Brookes which has a campus.
Also oxford is also an industrious city not just known for the university, it's also known for it's car making,with over 100 years of building cars, the famous mini Cooper is built in oxford.
A friend of mine from Liverpool worked at Cowley for years.
Been to Oxford and Cambridge several times each. Brought a friend and two young ladies,one Swedish the other Dutch,to Cambridge for a day trip in 1990 that turned into a weekend (we ended up camping all together in a tent on the edge of a farmer's field at Comberton),and the latter pair fell in love with the University part of it at first sight.
For a long time the University in Oxford was more separated from the rest of the town by a fearsome set of ring roads that kept the five big housing estates (of which Headington is the middle ranking one I know best from away games at Oxford United's old Manor Ground,and the second-worst was Barton and the very worst the infamous Blackbird Leys that was the site of rioting in the early 90s) out on the periphery and stoking a "town versus gown" resentment.
One thing I've always wanted to do when in Cambridge but haven't yet is take a punt on the Cam,as at 5:25; another thing on my have-it-see it-at-least-once list in Oxford,having seen a news article about it as long ago as 1986,is the Headington Shark!

'cester' or 'chester' in a city name means it was a roman fort. Also 'caer' (or 'gaer') in welsh names. so near my hometown of Newport, we had Caerleon & Caerwent.
Yes,it must have been confusing for them when the narrator was talking about the Palace Pier while the video was showing them the remains of the West Pier!
I can hardly believe that a British person has never been to the wonderful Lake District.
Stonehenge is an astronomical site. The “rocks” align precisely with the dawn summer and dusk winter solstices. The rocks themselves were transported over 140 miles from Wales.
The smaller blue stones were. The big stones were more l,ocal but still transported a lot of miles. There is now a claim that one central stone might have come from Scotland or the north of England!

With the perfect balance of climate,with perfect amounts of rainfall and sunshine,it’s no wonder these islands are so green.
Im in Cornwall and it’s magical,especially on the north coast (The mighty Atlantic) with some of the best beaches.

The sarsen megaliths have been identified as local to Stonehenge, only the bluestones came from Wales.
And I believe those blue ones are glacial erratics, plucked off the top of the mountain where they are found and brought down into Wiltshire in the ice flow.
What's more impressive about Stonehenge is that the rocks were moved 200km from Pembrokeshire Wales. 5000 YEARS AGO!

The street in York you’re thinking of is called “The Shambles” when you go back try visit North Wales….Look into “Port Merrion” and the 60s TV show The Prisoner which was all filmed there. It like a hidden village in a European style architecture. Wales is so stunning. I’ve been going there every year on holiday since I was a kid. Beautiful coastlines. Also Clovelly and Gold Hill in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
Other places that are beautiful include Whitby; the Cheddar gorge (where we make amazing Cheddar cheese and cider); the Peak District where you can go into the Blue John cavern and visit Chatsworth House and the Norfolk Broads, where you can hire motor cruisers - we've holidayed many times there

I've been to Windermere once a couple of years ago. It's beautiful but I couldn't believe the traffic. It was far too busy it's a shame for such a beautiful place. Think cars shouldn't be allowed. I went on the train and bus

You guys have to look up the Isle of Wight , aka ( dinosaur isle ) we have so much history here our island historically used to be attached to mainland Britain but broke away and became an island. And even to this day dinosaur remains/fossils are found here discovering new species of dinosaurs. We have a famous castle , we also have osbourne house which was the holiday home of Queen Victoria and where she later came to live and die because she loved the island so much. We have world famous yacht races every year in the summer. Some of the best beaches in the uk. And also the world famous the needles landmark. The Scenery is amazing here and there is so much History with our towns and the forts that still remain. It’s also known for having a lot of haunted places too.
Oh yes, love Isle of Wight, I live in Sussex so not too far - enjoyed Osbourne House and Quarr Abbey last time I went - the public transport is brilliant there too
@@junecaffyn357 I’ve lived here all my life I love it , and Sussex too is where my Nan is from originally. Quarr abbey is amazing isn’t it great scenery all around , & especially when you can visit each year to feed the new piglets after they are born. I don’t think I could live anywhere else.

Yes, we do have some amazing beaches. It's just the weather can be very hit and miss. Doesn't stop people from visiting there though!

It's so good to see my home city of Chester on one of your videos. It's a truly great city with a wealth of history that couldn't be shown in such a short clip. Chester has its own Roman walls, which is the most complete in the UK and surrounds the city. It has the remains of the biggest Roman Amphitheatre found in the UK and it has the oldest race course still in use today. If you ever get to the UK again, make sure a day at the races is on your itinerary. Chester also has one of the best Zoo's in Europe and is a great day out for any age. I could go on and on but best for anyone interested to look up our beautiful city Chester. Its only a stone throw from Liverpool, Manchester or Wrexham.

We have had so many cliff collapses recently, especially at West Bay on the Jurassic Coast. If and when you do go, do not walk under those cliffs and really don't picnic at the foot. Families still do it, though there are signs advising against it. Same goes for the cliff tops too. Those are really unstable cliffs.
They didn't get the rocks up there at Machu Picchu, they were there already. The builders just used the top of the mountain to build with.
The West Cliff cliffs collapse constantly in Bournemouth, exactly why people should stay far from them. Several idiots have been killed because they stand on the cliffs of The Jurassic Coast.
The video was quite good but dont forget to visit Durham City and its cathedral. Also rural English villages are packed with very ancient churches often with amazing stories to discover. There is some awesome mountain scenery in the Lake District, not shown on the video. Visit the Yorkshire Dale's with its stunning villages and hill scenery. Also The North Yorkshire Moors including Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby. The latter is superb for ancient buildings, Jurasic fossils and the best fish n chips in the universe. Ask for scraps to be sprinkled over the latter. The coastal footage was partly The Jurrassic Coast but a lot of it was chalk and of Cretaceous age and not The Jurassic Coast. English pubs are famous of course. In London many unspoilt Victorian pubs. Unfortunately many pubs in England have closed for economic reasons or have turned into American style diners (heartbreaking stuff). Pubs have altered for the worse in many places and nothing like when i was young. Don't forget to visit Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland while here in The UK. Each country making up the union has its own character. The UK is awesome for tourism but be prepared for very changeable weather !!!!
Hey guys the boats with the thick sticks on the rivers are called punts or punting shallow water the punt propels you forward & steer you,some students work on the punting boats to supplement there tuition. A bit of pocket money for a pint or beverage.
The oldest well preserved neolithic habitation( remnants of 70 stone built buildings older than Stonehenge) is Skara Brae in Orkney in the Scottish isles. In a remarkable state of preservation for a 5,000 year old village older than The Pyramids.
There's so much more...Cornwall and Devon are pretty special too. Fabulous coast, beaches, and countryside..

I visited England in October last year, my mum was born there. I wish I got to go out of London more but I did visit Bath, Stonehenge, Dover & Canterbury. Canterbury Cathedral is massive inside. The White Cliffs of Dover are beautiful especially when you are coming back over the channel on the ferry.
It is a very slick video and nice reactions & memories. But as a Brightonian, I was astonished that there were no shots of the Royal Pavilion. Why so many shots of the pebbles on the shoreline? It has even much narrower streets for shops than York.

In the section on Brighton, those remains shown are what was the West Pier. It was at the less popular end of the seafront, closed down and then burned down... twice! The remnants have been left there because birds like to perch and nest there.
Also the pictures shown were from different years. The big wheel was removed when they put up the i360 - a donut-shaped viewing platform that goes up a pole... and then comes down. It's not popular with Brighton residents as the council agreed to back it financially and keep having to bail it out because it doesn't make enough money.

@@brigidsingleton1596Some of us identify only as English 🏴, and so would say 'Proud to be English 🏴'. I have never called myself British 🇬🇧 and since I can remember only said 'English 🏴'. We hold British 🇬🇧 passports as there isn't an English 🏴 passport so have no choice.
That alley in York is called The Shambles. It' been a long time since I last visited the city for pleasure, though I did have to go there to work for a Night. It is definitely worth a visit as it's a Beautiful city.
I’ve visited Stonehenge many moons ago when I was around 15 years old, now I’m 52. I remember back than you could walk up to the stones and touch them, whereas now I think they’re are ropes surrounding the ancient monument to keep tourists from getting to close because of the risk of damage to the ancient stones. Stonehenge may lay on mostly flat plains but when it was built, the rocks were transported 180 miles - dragged on wooden sleds by teams of strong men, according to scientists. I’m fascinated by places like this, especially during summer solstice when gatherers gather during daylight and moonlight, round the stones and pay homage to the druids who use to gather round the ancient stones before. 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔✨

The ruins in Brighton are from a pier that burned down a few tears ago.
And councils never removed it .
It is a total eyesore. It should be dismantled and the metal recycled.
To have missed the Roman Baths for the sake of £25 is crazy! Especially as you were stood right outside! If you like history it is an absolute must visit. If you come to the UK again, it HAS to be on your to-do list 👍🤩

The racecourse at Chester used to be a thriving Roman port until it silted up.
If you cross the bridge into Handbridge, just on the right is a park, this was the Roman quarry where the got the stone to build Chester, in the park is a shrine to the Goddess Minerva in situ.

Stonehenge? only 17 miles from where I live. Hampshire and Wiltshire are beautiful counties to visit and not at all boring. Been past Stonehenge many times and visited about twice I think. Not cheap to visit though, but you get a tour around the stones with headsets in any language (including American!!) that tells you everything that you need to know about the history of the stones, including how they got there. With advanced technology and recorded history, they know for certain that the stones were moved there about 5,000 years ago now.
Also. Cambridge boating is the traditional Punts.You can go punting with a guide or try steering it yourselves with your mates,family,girlfriend,down the River Cam out past the colleges to Grantchester and back.Lovely on a warm summers day,and if you got money to afford it,with the champagne and strawberries.Ocassionally, i've seen groups of slightly drunk lads out on them,falling in to the shallow river.Thats especially so,when the students have their 'Freshers' parties

I love York! The little street where all the shops are close together is called The Shambles its really old. If you go to London you really should do the Ripper trail A guide will take you to all the locations where Jack the Ripper murdered all the victims its so interesting. The lakes is the place where Beatrix Potter was born & you can go into her cottage where she wrote Peter Rabbit its so pretty

It was (accidentally?) burnt down in the 1970s, during the filming of the movie Tommy. The fire was used in the movie.
0.49 That's Glastonbury Tor, worth a visit. You can walk to it from the town, free to visit and spectacular views. The famous music festival is held a few miles out of town in Pilton but visible from the top of the Tor. Stonehenge is a little over-rated IMHO, for a more 'personal' encounter with a stone circle, visit Avebury. The stone circle here goes around the village and you can walk up & touch the stones.
Used to live in Chester. It is a beautiful city. Very close to North Wales.
fun fact about england, in primary school we have something called tudor day, it’s where we go to these places we have to dress and live as tudors for the day and it’s a big shock, you learn so much about our history, i remember learning about the foods and we had to wash clothes like they did and work for money like they did and at the end we can buy ourselves souvenirs with the money you earned, i wish they did this for tourists bcuz it’s so informative and i remember having fun!
I know last time you visited you went upto Scotland. Try Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle up North. There full of interesting history and very very friendly people.

I can’t believe that Northumberland wasn’t on here. Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, Hadrians Wall and the desserted beaches of Northumberland which are stunning. If you find cities overwhelming then Northumberland is the place to visit. I can’t believe that the Lake District was only number 8 on the list. It should have been higher up the list for sure. It’s beautiful.

Most remember Salisbury, unfortunately, for the Russian spy Novichok poisonings. Very scary time, as we have 5 rivers that run through Wiltshire... miraculously no rivers were contaminated with Novichok!
Chester is our home from home too, my mum's twin, and my fave Auntie, Cousins and extended family live there. 🇬🇧🫶🇬🇧
My daughter is looking at going to University in York. We visit it a lot anyway. It’s lovely.

I live only a 40 minute train ride from Chester, the Christmas markets are starting up about now so they're are on my visit list.

Been to York a few times. The Shambles is so olde worldly and magical, you'd expect a goblin to appear.

When you visited Tower Bridge were you there to see them raising the bridge to allow ships to pass through? Very interesting experience. Obviously all traffic, and pedestrians, have to stop and wait until the bridge closes again. Also, at Greenwich there is a tunnel that allows you to walk under the Thames!!
Stonehenge is older than the pyramids and is perfectly built for the summer and winter solstice and the stones were taken from 220 miles away and the larger ones weighing around 30 tonnes each,not bad considering they were placed there 5000 years ago,also there are many places that didn't feature on that top ten such as the Norfolk broads which you 3 would love as it's a river system where you can stay on large motor boats and cruise around for a week or two and it's stunning,Arundel,Cornwall are also stunning places you should look at,Britain is full of amazing places from top to bottom ❤🏴🇬🇧❤️
Stonehenge was first mentioned in English literature by Henry of Huntingdon CE/AD 1130. Some independent researchers put its age to 100k+ years, the same with many global structures, possibly far older than the official line.

You're right Joel, Stonehenge is difficult to get to without a car. I would make a day of it, by visiting Silbury Hill, Durrington Walls, and the Avebury stone circle too.
I went on a couch trip/tour there and it parks up so you can walk up to it. So it is possible with coach trips.
I loved Avebury and thought it superior to Stonehenge.

As a horse owner of many years, I can tell you the thoroughbred horse was developed here from Arab horses. Horse racing began here with the thoroughbred. Check it out.
When my son was trying for university places he had an interview at Trinity college Cambridge for medieval & viking history .He didnt get in so joined Aberystwyth University in Wales & loved it .
England has alot of of old structures like oil rigs and water towers and so much more than just castles that go back to the 11th century plus there are over 3,000 castles.
I've also been to the Jurassic coast in Lyme Regis and oh my goodness the beaches are covered in ammonites ❤
Piers often burn down and that is what you see off Brighton beach. I don't like Brighton much

The Jurassic Coast is amazing. Any place of east of Bournemouth on the coast is crowded and very boring in my view. You can walk the coastal path all along the coast down to the totally wonderful Cornwall
Stonehenge is amazing to see but incredibly expensive. Salisbury is nearby and that is a wonderful city/town. There are lots of stone circles in the area which are much more interesting and accesible - Avebury for example where I have danced round the stones at midnight. Lots of druid ceremonies

The UK has nine breeds of horses and ponies, some are very ancient: including the very famous heavy horses, so famous for the Budweiser adverts, the Clydesdale, the Shire, Welsh mountain pony, New Forest, Shetland pony, Highland, Fell and Dale ponies and the Connemara.
The general consensus i think is that Stonehenge was an observatory, the stones supposedly line up with eclipses. Neil Degrasse Tyson did a show in the UK and he forced his crew to get up at like 2am so they could go visit the stones. If you want to watch anyone fan girl hard over Stonehenge then hes probably your guy. I lived near Stonehenge when my children were very small, like very near to it. Less than half a mile away and i used to take my children there and we'd have picnics in an adjacent field and we'd have lunch while looking at the magnificent stones, its much more impressive in person. Now we live on the Jurassic coast in Bournemouth which is just as beautiful but do heed the warning about getting too close to the cliffs, they do collapse consistently and people have lost their lives getting to close to the cliff edges.
Hello Joel and pals. Welcome back to Yorkshire at no. 2.
I tried to go to St Andrew's in Scotland, their top university, but did not get in. I was in bed with flu for three weeks before my exams. Luckily the course tutor at another university, where I applied for a course with a year in US, remembered me because he saw me alone, after I had been ill. He said I could go to that university, but not to US as I missed the grades needed.
Talking of meeting people on campus, the first person I met was Alok Sharma, who became a government minister, as I commented before. He invited me to see him at Parliament when he became an MP, but I could not go due to other commitments.
What you thought were ruins in Brighton is the old West pier I think which suffered in a fire, but the steel structure remains
The houses are that close together because they were built hundreds of years ago.
Look up the Black Country in the west midlands they have a historic museum there called the black country museum there that’s really interesting. Some of the series peaky blinders was filmed there 👍
Why on earth was Brighton Pavillion not included in the Brighton snippet? It's an incredible Indian inspired Palace that's the best thing about Brighton, even better than the sea.
Durdle door on the Jurassic coast in dorset is amazing, to sit in the summer and even watching the sunset is so amazing
There were so many inaccuracies in that video it was almost funny. Dates, names, places, things pictured that are nowhere near the named sites. Chester is nice, but Durham is wonderful. I could go on and on...
Im always a bit surprised that Rochester in Kent never gets a mention, with its connections to Charles Dickens. During August Bank Holiday weekend their is a lot of period costumes worn to honour him
