The Everything, Everything version of this was the moment I stopped merely liking Underworld, and they became my favourite musicians of the modern era. A couple of decades later, they're still in the top spot.
I heard Cowgirl, in a club when i was in my teens! Compared to all of the other house/techno music at the time, it was a fucking revelation!! Been hooked ever since! Still got my original copy of Dubnobass, from then.
I was 13 living in a small town when my brother put on a vhs tape that contained the video Cowgirl by Underworld. My little mind was blown to bits and I watched it three times in a row. (Back then that was a big deal because you physically had to rewind it, haha). It was an instant-brain-rewiring moment. Completely reshaped me. I hadn’t heard/seen anything like it in my life. I can only count altering experiences like that on one hand and that’s the most prominent. Made me wonder what else there was like that in the world. I credit underworld’s music with igniting my insatiable curiosity about life.
What a game changer this album was eh? Saw them back then at the Brixton Academy around 93/94 absolutely incredible then & the memories of the morning after being with like minded people thinking what the f**k have we just seen.
As an electronic musician, Underworld was a massive influence on my own work. Thank god for Trainspotting, I would have never discovered them. Juanita Kiteless is one of my favorite tracks of there.
This brings tears of joy to my eyes, a tap to my foot, a waving / circling arm raised in the air at the breakdowns. And, they resist the cliché drop in favor of a gradual build. They are genius. Timeless, incredibly joyful music.
Got home from work to find this, been smiling ever since!! Thanks for the memories!! That was 2 hours ago, and i'm still sat here smiling!! Joy, Love and music!! give it to the world without fear of criticism.
Second Toughest has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. Still listen to it on a regular basis and still elicits the same emotions it did when I first discovered it in a dirty record store bin in Grand Rapids Michigan 25 years ago. Was my first intro to Underworld and it rocked my world and has been on replay ever since. Never gets old! Especially "Juanita : Kiteless : To Dream of Love" is so epic! Thank you for the 2022 remake!!!
Finally got to see them live a couple of days ago. This was one of the many highlights of their mind-blowing two sets. An out of body experience I will never ever forget. Still buzzing...and i think this was my favourite of the night.
Juanita/Kiteless/To Dream Of Love. 16m37s is the length of the original, which I first heard in a FNAC music store in Paris in the summer of 1996. At the time I was just getting into Dance music and found the lyrics a bit odd that day, I did not buy it. A month later my elder brother sent me 2nd Toughest on tape - this was when this track Juanita/Kiteless/To dream of love started to seep into my being. It's now 26 years later - and this one track is still my favourite of all time - I've listened to it, hundreds and hundreds of times, maybe even more than a thousand times. Read that bit again. Through good times and bad, happy and sad - but it's always been there since mid 1996 and it has always given me a strange kind of strength - more than any other underworld track and more than any other track by anyone else. I can't explain it, the odd, interesting beats at the start, the amazing hi-hat that starts at 1m32s and sticks all the way through and a myriad of other things. So, I knew there was the Everything Everything live version - which I thought was ok, but I felt didn't match the gritty darkness of the original. And then last week I saw a notification that Juanita 2022 was about to be released - I've listened to it about 25 times since it came out last week. I guess I'm a bit surprised that it is VERY similar to the Everything Everything version and much less so to the original. Juanita Boxhill's voice is not on the original - but she did do some spoken word on the 100 days off Album which came out 5 or 6 years after, that is why she sounds so familiar. - So, that is a little odd that they've added her I guess when she wasn't part of it originally. One other thing is the Kiteless part of the original is not represented - both Juanita and To Dream of Love form part of Juanita 2022, but the incredibly intoxicating locomotive synth from 7m13s to 8m40s of the original is sorely missing from the new oeuvre. I have never heard any other version of this song - and I cannot find any online. I think I did once hear a bootleg version - which someone refers to in another comment. No complaints here. Would love to hear some more versions, if there are any. I'm glad I got that off my chest...
There is, of course, the Everything Everything live version, plus the European Club Gig version, which is broadly similar. They rarely played it live until a few years ago when it became a standard set staple. They did play a short version of it when I saw them at Kool Haus in Toronto as a bridge between Darc and Rez/Cowgirl.
SOOO many memories tied up with this band, this album and this song. I love driving to this album especially doing an all nighter behind the wheel. The natural high you get listening to this just keeps you awake and groovin no matter what time of day/night. Such an amazing song and to hear it re-released long form - shivers. The crazy guitar sounds bout 6:40min in are just so enjoyable.
I feel a bit sad for younger people that have never heard of them except for one track on a movie! delve then get immersed! this shit will change your music taste forever!
There’s a very popular series that references Underworld in one of the characters, so when the adaptation gets to where he’s introduced, I bet a tonne of new fans will flock to listen
My favorite song of all time, again my favorite song of all time, from my favorite band of all time. I only picked up Second Toughest because of a pamphlet that came with a KMFDM CD back when they were on Wax Trax. I got to see them in NY live (many times) but the last time they played (before covid) they played it like the original, not this rework. A dream come true.
Just bought second toughest, playing it in my bedroom , my old mum comes in room , I'm telling her ,listen to this mum .she just stands there looking at her son raving in his bedroom . Wondering
I've been seeing remixes of electronic classics popping up all over the place, and very few even justify their existence because so many rely on boring mainstream drum sounds, or turning it into a "progressive house" track (nothing about progressive house is "progressive"), or making it "minimal" (aka we take away any signifier of why that track was so iconic in the first place). The original of Juanita is one of my all-time favourite Underworld tracks, so I rather hesitantly checked out this one, and I am SO relieved that I can say 'And THIS is how a rework of a classic is done!' The merging of well-known elements with new sounds and arrangements while keeping in mind what made the track great is brilliantly done and really works, thanks Underworld!
Truly great records are marked by a quality that makes them difficult to tell when they were produced. Underworld makes timeless records; this refresh moves me both backward & forward. 20 more years, gents.

How can an electronic piece be such a timeless classic that they bring out yet another remix 25 years after the original and I fall in love with it AGAIN!? The riff starting at 6:28 is orgasmic
I remember Everything Everything Live being on Channel 4 back in the day and was the moment Underworld became my favourite electronic band ever. One of the best opening tracks of any gig i've seen and still give me Goosebumps to this day - but it's still Pearls Girls off the same live album that puts a tear in my eye
Second Toughest is still my all time favorite underworld album and the one I go back to again and again and could always listen to over and over, restarting from the beginning immediately after the last track ends. It represents a perfect space in time, in life, open with possiblity, true earnest love and beauty. I will always cherish this. I can barely begin listening to this new version of perhaps the greatest first track on an album ever, it brings up so much emotion, wonder, joy. Thank you. ♥️♥️

Please come to Canada. I love you guys, you're my fav band and have been a huge influence in my life since I was a kid. Would absolutely be ecstatic to see you live. Living in Ottawa but Montreal, Toronto I'd be there... probably even Vancouver. Keep being the amazing souls of beautiful music that you are!
Brings memories of seeing you Karl getting stuck up the lighting gantry at Brixton Academy performing this. Wish they'd hurry up and invent time travel so I could experience that night allover again!
Underworld changed my music life. First heard them at the Roskilde festival in Denmark in 1996. At that time from "techno" music scene i knew only Scooter and the song "Move your ass". 😅 And Underworld showed me what does it mean real techno, intelligent electronic music and then i started to educate my friends with Underworld's music and i would say that i saved thier music taste😂:) thx a lot Underworld for your music and keep going lads🎉!

Cowgirl, Rez Reading. Blew my mind
The first minute already gave me goosebumps all over. What a masterpiece, can't wait for the vinyl to arrive.
Goosebumps.......
I hope the Everything Everything version is a clue that we’ll get a vinyl pressing of the full live album.
Love these represses you lads are dishing out with reworks! Keep 'em coming 👍 Roll on the 16th for my copy 🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
And Underworld showed me what does it mean real techno, intelligent electronic music and then i started to educate my friends with Underworld's music and i would say that i saved thier music taste😂:)
thx a lot Underworld for your music and keep going lads🎉!
Thank you very much guys.
Definitely you different.
Underworld Forever. ❤️
