    Been jamming this monster of a record for 24 years, and I'm never bored by it.
    Partly because no matter how much I learn about making electronic music, I can't fathom how this was created. And partly because it still sounds like some kind of imaginary future that sits just over the horizon that we can never quite seem to catch up to.

    • @dawidp8805

    • @nuffzed2001
      @nuffzed2001 3 роки тому +5

      @@dawidp8805 the issue is music has become compartmentalised with genres, ie ambient music is ambient music, indie rock, indie pop is in its own niche, very little crossing over/ bleeding into other genres from today's acts
      Underworld started out as a funk/ electro rock band, the ghost of rock music (and its dynamics) exists within intelligent dance, and it works!

    I remember when I fell in love with electronic music in the early 90s and ppl would always tell me how it had no emotion to it. I can't imagine how anyone could listen to Underworld and not be overwhelmed with emotions. They were always ahead of their time and absolutely brilliant live.

      Electronic music, done correctly, especially when it is Underworld (or maybe "The Orb" or "FSOL"), has just as much emotion/soul to it as Hendrix or Black Sabbath ever had.

      thats the point about this music, its the machine of electronica with a human element trying to fight it.
      When the unfiltered vocals (lyrics unimportant) come out at the end with the piano symbolises the continuation of humanity

    Ever noticed this little detail part of Underworld's sonic wizardry? At 2:43, right before Karl’s full-voiced "Resonator" incantation, listen closely to the high-pitch beat, and you should catch the morphing of the original rhythm and Karl's "Resonator" starting at 2:58. Seamless and organic flow, yet so meticulously engineered.

    This song has so many moments. It is incredible. They synth on kiteless, the return of the dreamy piano and guitar that ties back to Juanita...then the poppy bassline 8:54...follow that as it fades as they bring in the other layers. Drops at 10:33, then returns 10:47 but as hi hats or whatever they are called. still following the same sequence. piano at 11:32 that ties it all together. There might not be a more complex and satisfying electronic song in the history of electronic music.

    • @zacblake9249
      @zacblake9249 2 роки тому +4

      I love how the song actually gears up at 2:15 (drums), and then its like if this were a massive ritual to awaken the spirits, and they suddenly come alive at 3:40, and then it's a deep, deep, deep wormhole that not even the final sequence of 2001: A Space Odyssey can equate.

      Underworld are the absolute masters of subtlety interwoven in repetition, and this ttrack is one of the finest examples of such. As is the equally epic track that follows it. Hell, let’s be real: the whole album is a shimmering paragon of subtlety concealed in seemingly repetitive progressive house.

    In the 90's living in Nashville. I weekly went to a club called "The Underground on 2nd Ave to receive my weekend dose of trans, rave and techno. There was a club in memphis I went to with a live DJ for the same thing but can't remember the name of It. That's where I came to know the name "Darren Emerson". Owned all the Psychotrance CD's. Only 3 up to then and tons of other CDs. Moved to a small town in Ala called Russellville for work. Absolutely nothing to do there. I was lonely. I went to a CD store to get some music to listen to on my way to visit my friends in Memphis for a weekend. And this is the CD I bought. I remember pulling over just to listen to this first song all over again without any distractions. It totally wowed me. 25+ years later this album still rocks

    I must admit I started liking this song in the wrong time in my life. Now when I want to listen to it I remember all the misery! The lyrics are talking to one another. The lights are spinning in wheels radiating a gradient of silver in the pitch black veil.

    Last time I was excited about music this much was when I discovered Kraftwerk 15 years ago. I heard a lot of different music, but this epic resonated with me so much that I listened to it continuously for about a week. If Born Slippy.Nuxx is the Stairway to Heaven of rave culture, this is Echoes of rave culture.

    Been jamming to this since 2013 (?), I believe. Still one of my favorite songs EVER. This type of music is one of my favorite music genres, but I mean from any genre. I love how the different sounds progress through each part of the song and yet it's still a cohesive piece.

    When I lived in So. California I would many times drive to Las Vegas, usually with friends as a almost last minute idea (basically the idea was thought of thursday night, friday night after work we were on our way. I usually drove by myself because that is what I wanted. I would play this song on repeat on my cd player attached to the truck's cassette player. All my trips to Las Vegas ALWAYS had this song playing.

    Played this just cause I love "Pearls Girl". Forgot how amazing all the other tracks are!!! Truly a stand out album of the era! Very few artists have the ability to verbally spout this much nonsense, that yet means so much to me!

      the synths have changed and most affordable stuff is software instead of hardware based. the stock sounds that exist now are mostly rubbish. and the real disposable income since the 90s is down about 20% which means people have 20% less to spend on stuff like hardware and other musical items. most people are scraping by. and the drugs
