This is most certainly one thing off my bucket list as I got to sit 3 meters away from him and got to enjoy his music as well as his wisdom.
The living legend that inspired me to pick up drum sticks in the first place. What a monster he is.
It seems like an accidental push of a button ruined the ending by cutting the song short a couple of seconds and I apologise for the mishap.

Ah, it's ok, man- it's a nice, clean recording; nice, steady camera work, so, no biggie.

I honestly wasn't looking at the camera at all after zooming in to crop the heads there, and trying my best to hold it steady while watching my hero with a facial expression of something in between a stupid grin and an orgasm face 🤣 I suppose that's what happened with the record button. Glad it did not happen earlier and only the last bar or two right before the crescendo ending was cut.

I was sitting at this angle when I first saw DW with Chick Corea in 1983_ish. Never heard of him then, but just remember being awestruck. Like the way I am right now, 40 years later. :)
As always,Dave is most succesfull in combining skill and technique with musicality,like no one else does.After so many years,he never stops amazing us.Nice angle,by the way.❤
Look, as a drummer who's been playing live shows for decades, I'm asking musicians watching this to focus on the first minute of the video. Dave comes in ON TOP of the beat, and stays there. That's not easy at all, even if he's played the same recorded MP3 in front of a crowd half-a-dozen times.
Regularly-gigging musicians should understand what I'm driving at. This performance is MASTERFUL. Yes, it's Dave Weckl, and he's masterful, but that doesn't give us musician UA-cam browsers liscense to ignore what's really happening in this clip. Practice can turn someone who plays club gigs into a studio master - someone who can bring the studio onto the stage.
.. and also know when the clinical needs to evolve into something that brings a crowd to its feet. This one clip is *so* Dave Weckl that I'll be studying it for years. Thanks for posting it
Indeed. I think a lot of non-drummers (and drummers) don't truly appreciate how much precise coordination, listening and automated movement ability, it takes to play at this level. I think it's because him and Vinnie make it look so easy...even being 60+ years in age :-)

Wow, thanks for that. Ive seen him many times, and have been as close like you are here. But for some reason you got the perfect angle. I can see his hands so well, and you can really see how effortless it is for him. I have been listening to him for 43 years, and it still amazes me every time I see/hear him play.

The GOAT himself. Saw him with the late great Chick C. and the electric band 30-ish years ago. Sometimes you get see and hear something really extraordinary you'll remember for the rest of your life. That show was one of them, we were blown away and still talk about it !

Yea I went to Dave’s Clinic, I think it was the 8th or 9th & got to meet him flawless grooving & one of the best clinics I have been the master working with traditional grip 💯🎼🥁😍✌️

Wecyl is the top of the elite in drumming. I helped him set up at a clinic in the 90s a few times.

Drumming has progressed so much even since Dave’s era, but the way he plays never sounds old school. It’s always fresh, clean, clear and the intense!
I watched a recent “Berklee drum sheds 2022 and 2023” and there was at least 20 Berklee drummers and every single one of them was trying to play faster and louder and with more power than that next guy! 100% almost everyone of them was copying each other, it was so sad! This is timeless! Vinny is timeless! Adam Deitch and JP Bouvet came from Berklee and are contemporary drummers that are pushing the limits and our phenomenal players but some of these new cats are just playing drum acrobatics! 😢
@@williamperri3437 true but that’s just a young buck thing. Most drummers that love music grow out of that and settle into their own sound eventually.

Has he changed his signature stick(s)? I had some of his signature sticks many agos which were a dark brown/red in color…thanks..saw him live in Rochester NY 1994. House of Guitars

Realmente depende de tus preferencias y equipo. Todo es posible, desde un teléfono, desde una tableta o tu computadora portátil con una simple aplicación de reproductor de música para reproducir la pista sin batería o si tienes una aplicación de producción musical como ProTools, etc. y tienes pistas separadas de la canción y puedes silenciar la batería y Se acabó el juego.
En el caso de Dave Weckl, estoy bastante seguro de que está usando una aplicación como ProTools para habilitar el metrónomo.
Espero que esto tenga sentido ya que no hablo español y utilicé Google Translate.

Hi there. No. This as the finale and part of the open solo/warmup in the beginning. There was one other piece halfway through that I think he said was written by Jay Oliver which was another killer performance but I did selfishly enjoyed it myself and not recorded it. Sorry but not sorry. 😁

There must be a market for music like this though, basically exciting-sounding twiddly nonsense, written merely as a vehicle to excite people at drum clinics, complete with lots of accents and stabs that really make no musical sense. It makes me laugh, because I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually listens to stuff like this outside of drum clinics. 😂
