    For all you DIY'ers suggest you apply contact paper to the that inside portion of you base cabinets that have plumbing.
    Run it up 2" above the base all around.
    Has saved my A$$ and cabinets many a time from leaky fittings.

      there are pvc pipe products that have a branch-off for the dishwasher drain hose, you buy the entire pipe and it attaches to the new sink drain where the garbage disposal is removed. Then it has a little opening on the side for the dishwasher hose.

    I would remove a Badger any day of the week I have lived in 4 states, 3 of which the houses had badgers. Each badger has been junk and they are loud. If your going to have one spend a little extra and get a better model. I don't blame you for removing it. I just removed the latest badger as it ruptured. Went back with no disposal we will see how it goes. Kept my dishwasher though.

    Another reason why you should remove your garbage disposal is: the County Extension agent told me that all kinds of pests like those tiny flies and gnats we get in our houses like to breed on the underside of the blades in a garbage disposal. It's impossible to ever clean those parts of the garbage disposal. They maintain an oozing, slimy pus on the underside of those blades which is a breeding ground for all sorts of vermin - larvae of flies of all kinds and moth larvae. Garbage disposals are a health hazard.

    My family used have a old InSinkErator garbage disposal in our kitchen sink it was installed in the 1960s and it died in April 1993 so we had a dead disposal in our sink for 15 years and it caused our sink to be clogged up constantly. We also discovered a leak underneath our sink in May 2005 so we had a bucket and our old dish pan under the sink to catch the dripping water. In July 2008 we had a plumber come to our house to remove the garbage disposal and replaced it with straight piping so we now have a regular drain in our kitchen sink and we decided to start composting our food waste. I think composting is a lot better for the environment and it's eco friendly!!!

    Always buy disposer with stainless grinding componets ,cheaper ones had a cast iron shredder ring that rusted allowing larger pieces of food to fall into drain pipe that should have been ground up, also always use cold water as this helps solidify any grease to be ground up.

      I think a lot of people also don't know how to properly use a disposal. They drop everything down there. Also they probably don't run some cold water after using it allowing the water to carry all that grinded food. And they probably rinse with hot water which just makes oil and grease pile up down the pipes once it cools.

    This is just an opinion. I've built homes in the country, with septic systems for years. My house is over 20 years old with a disposal, and never had a clogged pipe, and never have had to have my septic tank pumped down. I also have many neighbors that have never had issues. This has been argued for years, but it may or may not happen. Nothing wrong with disposals.

      Cajun9000 i guess to each his own. my house is 118 years old. i bought it a year ago and i hate my disposer. i never had clogs with regular drains. my disposer is always jammed or clogged. i just want to wash dishes without problems. i have no time for clogged sinks. my mother had one and she loved it. im going to remove it after i figure out how to do it. im glad you like yours. maybe im doing something wrong when i use it.

    • @michaelengle9062
      @michaelengle9062 6 років тому +1

      agreed. I do understand the argument as to why they can be bad for septic systems but our house is 33 years old and never had an issue. We get the septic system checked and pumped every 3-5 years...tank and drain field are working great. I think the key is to not 'abuse" the system. We throw the majority of scraps in the trash and the only things going in the disposal are the small pieces that don't make it into the trash. I know people who pretty much ram a three course meal down their disposal every night...I imagine they are setting themselves up for trouble...

      Most metro areas now offer 'green bins' for recycling and encourage homeowners to recycle all greens/compostable material in this manner as it reduces the load on municipal septic water treatment plants. Today my expensive & seldom used garbage disposal is on its way to Craigslist and hopefully a new owner. A new LED lightbar will replace it and provide illumination for this former 'dark hole'.

    Isn't the main culprit people that put food in garbage disposals? Clean your plate scraps off in your trash can. Then any small parts wash down the disposal. Without disposal, your just washing small particles left on dishes down the drain?

      I would rather have a dishwasher in my kitchen and a kitchen sink without a garbage disposal. I would get my dishes washed in the dishwasher and I would just have a strainer over the sink drain.

    It is not true. First you need grinded waste food to feed the bacterias in your septic tank. Second, any un-filtered waste food should be grinded down before it fell into the drain pipe. Disregard of what, the grease got into the pipe will clog up the drain pipe, not necessary the waste food from the garbage disposal will clog up the pipe. I only use the garbage disposal to clean up whatever fell into the garbage disposal after washing dishes. Just make sure to clean up the drain pipe few times a year. Eliminate the garbage disposal or not is your personal choice, but it is not the best.

    Replace the garbage disposal, just don't use it. If you happen to put your house on the market, prospective buyers won't think your an idiot. I 'm not sure where you get your data, but I think larger pieces of debris would be harder to clear. Good for the environment? Why? Explain your "logic" please.

      @@bravovonmuller3149 My desire is that you explain your logic. By deflecting, it makes me think that you have none. My question has NOTHING to do with minimalism... nothing. What that has to do with "being better for the environment" is beyond me. Again, please explain your logic, and please stick to the point. Thanks.

      Actually it has everything to do with "Minimalism" getting rid of unneeded STUFF and that goes for all the Cheap Nic Nac's that clutter up Houses and saving money and getting back to the basic.., like when people used to have Gardens. Back in the 1960's when Americans had Gardens, they didn't need a Garbage Disposal and all that extra food could be used outside in a Compost.

    one reason to eliminate garbage disposal: you will not pay taxes anymore for the disposal....

    • @sherrypaschal5174
      @sherrypaschal5174 5 років тому +1

      I do hope you are not being serious. Taxes for an in-sink garbage disposal? That makes no sense at all. Where do you live? What goes in the disposal goes either in your your septic tank, or municipal sewer system. It would be rather difficult to differentiate the exact contents of the wastewater coming from your home by the time it even hits the street, let alone by the time it gets to the wastewater treatment plant. I think sewage charges are caculated from a formula based on the amount of overall water you use anyway.
      I have great doubts about the possibilities of any authority who has figured out a way to specifically tax someone's septic system. My mother lives in rural SC. She has a septic system, but pays a flat county tax for her property.
