Wow this is such a great tutorial. Really appreciate the use of materials found around the home!! I wanted to gold plate a thick copper button on a british made mechanical vape, now I'm saved from the constant patina and washing off copper smelling fingers every half hour. In all, thank you. You are a Godsend sir.

Cool. I started doing this in Vancouver in 1990 and did the majority of the bike and car dealerships on the mainland and the island as well as a few hundred body shops and customizing shops. I did the first Honda emblems and started BIC Canada off with their mini bics with the gold plated caps. I Also worked with a lot of jewelers and had most of the costume jewelry replating work for the merchants that set up on Robson and Granville streets. Was a fun business and did a lot of cool stuff. Only competition I had was ACME plating. Makes me want to start up again and not sell tis time.

Thank you. I was doing some research into this over the last 20 or so years. I was looking into it again some 10years ago for some jewellery pieces I made. My father and his friend gave me some good advice and I am here again thinking of a simpler and cheaper way, as this will make my pieces pop.
    Many thanks for sharing.

What other case? And you connected the wire to the locking pliers to ‘hold the penny better’ ????

Both. The electrons flow to the negative carrying any solution/metal to the object however to clean it you reverse the polarity sending objects away from the object cleaning it.

Your gold solution is red and the link you offered has no color (I bought it already).
Also you are talking about two different methods. At the beginning you show the solution method in your explanation but then demonstrate the brush method.
Now, because of this video I bought the gold solution you offered the link to and planned to do the brush method as you demonstrated.
Also you don’t say what side is positive and negative when plating. Which goes on the knife and which goes to the penny.
In the solution method the receiving item is negative.
From what I see in the video, you say the white stripe was positive and that went to the penny (the receiver). Does the brushing method work in reverse?

Thank you, its good to know looks like the listing has changed in the last year. I will update it when they get more as looks like all are out of stock. If the product anywhere is clearly different than what you expect I would always recommend looking into it before buying it. More than likely what you bought is gold suspended in a different chemical and should work similarly however you will want to check the msds and look up all safety measures as well as contact the manufacturer. There are mainly 2 types out there and mostly the clear/blue are safer. I can't say for sure though. I made clear I am no professional and I don't know what you were redirected to and purchased. For the polarity the object being plated should be on the negative side. I mention this at 1:20 of my video if you need a time stamp. Hope this helps. Stay safe.

Hi! Thanks for the video, I appreciate the tutorial. I'm a little confused and just want to make sure I understand. Was it the zinc strip or just the negative wire itself that was attached to the pliers holding the penny?
I have an enamel pin missing gold plating on one of the sides so I could attach the zinc (or wire) to the pin directly given I have the space to do so, correct?
I would first nickel plate it using the nickel strips, and then gold plate using the ss butter knife.

I have a handbag where the hardware is gold plated and quite worn. Would I have to first remove the gold plating, and then plate the whole thing? Also, I don't know how to take it off the leather, so I like your method of brushing on, instead of dipping. So you know what the base metal would be? Thanks.

    • @KCreations4You
      @KCreations4You  2 роки тому

Ill give it my best. To apply gold to gold you do not need any additional layers like nickel. You do want it to be extremely clean and free of any oil. If its not good clean it can look dull. Denatured alcohol should clean it good. after cleaning spraying it with distilled water it should not bead up. Then apply a layer to it. a one inch cube does not take allot however companies like the Gold plating services are getting cheap with the amount of gold in their produce and its constant taking more and more product to get the same result. when I did this video 25ml covered about 6"x6". You should check with them for coverage cause it can very. I'm not a pro just a hobbyist. I hope this helps.

I believe you can use the same process as the chrome but not 100% I haven't done tungsten yet. As far as wear I have done necklaces and would recommend 3 layers or more depending how much you are going to use it. A necklace with 3 layers seems to last for a few years before needing touch up. A dart may be more wear as I think you twist in a throw? Once you have it plated allot of jewelers will touch it up for a reasonable price.
