Of course he wouldn’t follow Diablo to hell, who would? So the character of Marius grounds the story, amplifies the terror, and heightens the pressure on and heroism of the Player character. But perhaps most beautifully, Marius becomes a tragic hero after this cinematic. By the end we cannot help but feel sorry for Marius when he is killed by Baal, for he is killed for being human, flawed and scared. When we confront Baal in the fifth act our fight against evil isn’t a fight for good. It’s a fight for humanity, and redemption of the human spirit. It’s also revenge, for poor souls like Marius, caught in the battles of greater powers.

I don't think they cared at that point. They knew he was too afraid to step through the gate to hell. So Baal decided to wait and collect the yellow Soul Stone at his leisure.

The Great Evils were never united while the Archangels stood together strong. This is why demons couldn't win the Eternal Conflict. However the Prime Evils at the time portrayed in this cinematic were working together and they were unstoppable. Should they succeed in gaining possession of the Worldstone the tides of war would have been in favor of the Burning Hells. I kinda feel sad about them because the Angiris Council were stupid not to realize the importance of the humans and the Worldstone and Tyrael was the only one who tried to do something while the Prime Evils were so cunning, clever and powerful.
There’s a quote from Mephisto that he says to Diablo in Heroes of the Storm. He says, “Maintain the illusion of our discord, Diablo.” This makes me think that the Prime Evils are not so divided as we think they are and that it’s all an illusion.
Andariel, Duriel, Baal and Diablo taunt you and declare their supremacy. Mephisto just mocks you for being late. He's my favorite of the bunch honestly.

@@edwwardmarcos1887 Honestly Mephisto is way more terrifying then Diablo is. Diablo looks like he should look a demon King A hulking goliath monster....Mephisto its a half rotting flying deformed Corpse.
What I love about this scene is that there are all 3 greater evils on one screen. In the beginning you know only the presence of one of them (Mephisto), then the second one is revealed (Diablo) and the fact that the last one (Baal) was there as well is revealed later.
One thing I wish they hadnt changed from the original cinematic: the ground no longer shakes when diablo walks. That made his presence feel more demonic by giving him unnatural weight and power that could make the earth tremble with each step.
mephisto is great of course, but for me, the malicious grin Diablo gives before turning into the portal is a great detail that I think makes the resurrected cinematic so much cooler.
I first met this game at the age of 16 and now I'm 39. I khow how it starts, ends and every bosses every minions but Everytime I play it keeps exciting me.
This cutscene is legendary in terms of direction. It was truly chilling for the time d2 came out I remember being a little kid and I hadn't ever been exposed to anything so dark and demonic before.
From what I remember, Tyrael asks Marius to be brave and go through that hell gate. What I can't comprehend, it is impossible for a weak mortal like Marius to sneak pass through two prime evils.
Lmfao I like how they made Diablo shrug his shoulders when Mephisto starts talking to him. He just turns around like (Dude seriously? Stfu already I know mf)
What the hell Tyrael thinking? As if Marius is supposed to slip past Mephisto, enter the Hell Gate, find his way to the Hellforge, challenge and defeat Hephasto the Armorer then destroy the Soulstone. Marius isn't even armed!
I remember this.. "And the evil that was once vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall He walk amongst the innocent, and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies shall rain fire, and the seas will become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked, and all of Creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell."

@@Merknilash to be fair when he asked that he was being imprisoned in tal Rasha's tomb, he didn't have more options, but maybe telling him to find someone who can do it was more possible.
Funny how small changes and omissions of details here and there totally rob the scene of it's impact and make it flat. For example, the shaking when Diablo makes his way to the gate, the framing as he approaches it, the screams growing louder as he enters... none of these are present here in the remade animation and it suffers because of it.
I think it was the developers trying to interpret this scene. In the original, he seemingly stares at nothing silently for a few seconds, making you think if he was lamenting toward Mephisto or saying goodbye to Marius.
@@reginaldcampos5762I think he might have been saying bye to Marius was interesting for the story cinematics that Marius always followed his companion The Wanderer was sad for him I’m sure to see him turn into Diablo like when his form starts to change after Mephisto Says The Gate Stands Ready!! After 20 years, I finally understand this cinematic. I never knew what the hell was going on in the original, just heard weird noises and bad lip sync.
To be honest, it's pretty impressive for Mario (or whatever his name is) to reach the 3rd level of endurance of hate with minimal gears on hardcore. He could have easily died to some doll explosions.
What I never understood is... what the hell did Tyriel honestly expect Marius to do? Go through the portal TO HELL (which, apparently, Baal and Mephisto will be totally ok with), and then just walk to the forge and destroy the soulstone? Something that only a decked up hero could achive after grinding through legions of lesser foes? Just.. how? Why? Couldn't he have taken the stone from Marius and pass it to the player?
Marius, the most powerful char in the Diablo history Walk bare-handed into the temple of Kazarul, without anyone's help. And watching 3 Prime Evils doing their ritual, without being noticed, just because he hides behind a pillar. Remember that even the strongest Nephalem haven't faced all the Three together. We, the player, defeat them one by one. Imagine they come at us together, like the trial of three ancient Barbarians. I suspect this is all Tyrael's setup. He is behind all of this. Without his help Marius cannot reach so far.
Tyrael told Marius to take Baal's soulstone to the Hell Forge. I'm like... really? Marius is unarmed and not a fighter. How is he expected to make a run for the portal past Mephisto? And then once he enters, how is he going to make it past the legions of demons there to get to the Hell Forge?
Something so harrowingly eldritch and visceral about this cinematic that leaves you in a state of uneasiness, as if doom itself is approaching through the gate, into your soul...
His form reflects the body he possessed. In D3 he possessed a girl so he has wide hips and noticable breasts. In D2 he possessed a probably the strongest warrior in the western land so it make sense he'd be very jacked.

Diablo is just so much better looking in this game then in 3 i have no idea why but he looks female in 3. Also Mephisto is by far the scariest of all the primes hands down
That was cause Leah got turned into Diablo at end of act 3 by Adria who betrayed tyrael and the nephalem I think Adria was planning to betray tyrael and the Nephalem the act 4 cinematic in Diablo 3 was fun to watch with Imperius fighting Diablo after he used his spear with fire to reveal Leah’s form
He thinks he's hiding, but there's no way he could have gotten into the Durance of Hate without Mephisto's permission. Mephisto knew he was there, and probably so did Diablo and Baal.
"The skies shall rain fire! The seas will become as blood! The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!"
" ..... And all creation shall tremble before the burning standarts of Hell!" My beloved cinematic of Diablo II become much more cooler ..... as my beloved Mephisto ^-^
And you would go? Cmon man, many people would just s**t their pants after seeing scene like this. And Marius is not a brave fighter, he's just poor old man, who got tasked with something impossible for him. And I'm not even speaking if fact, that Marius was all by himself, without any angelic support/ anything.
The remaining lesser evils in hell: Azmodan and belial were the ones who exiled the prime evils and stole control of hell from them. They almost for sure would have smashed baals stone to take him out for a few thousand years. Then they would have thrown Marius into eternal damnation for fun. Tyraels plan isn’t “impossible”….
@@Papibife Diablo never made it to the deeper levels of hell. If you think that the chaos sanctuary and river of flame are all of hell, they are not. It’s just the front door.

"And they were unstoppable."
Idk bro. I remember stopping them plenty of times while mfing 😆
Andariel, Duriel, Baal and Diablo taunt you and declare their supremacy.
Mephisto just mocks you for being late. He's my favorite of the bunch honestly.
Tyrael i know you have restrictions and everything but this plan...sucks.
I'm just wondering how Marius snuck in there,...oh....wait,...yeah Diablo and was trolling him,
@@alexandarvoncarsteinzarovi3723 All the dialogues keep saying things like "this place was secure once", so i suppose the monsters arrived after the events in the cinematics. But...yep. I think he was still under Diablo influence.
Another breaking of the laws from Tyrael would had been appreciated. :D
Still one of the best cut scenes ever.
Mephisto is absolutely terrifying in the resurrected version.
Roughly the same impression I got with the original the first time I saw it. Seeing Mephisto for the first time as a terrifying monstrosity only to be completely overshadowed by Diablo's form 30 sec later lol.
@@edwwardmarcos1887 Honestly Mephisto is way more terrifying then Diablo is. Diablo looks like he should look a demon King A hulking goliath monster....Mephisto its a half rotting flying deformed Corpse.
3:05
I love how Diablo smiles to his older brother after being ordered to take over the hell. 😈
What I love about this scene is that there are all 3 greater evils on one screen. In the beginning you know only the presence of one of them (Mephisto), then the second one is revealed (Diablo) and the fact that the last one (Baal) was there as well is revealed later.
...its clear in the first cinematic with tap rasha in it that its Baal within him...
Mephisto: *Open the portal to the hell*
Diablo: *Walk through the portal*
Baal: …Nice to see you too
Seeing this for the first time terrifies me, now seeing this on 4k definition still terrifies me
i pressed g right before the cutscene and i got the original one lmao thanks for uploading this
I’ll never forget the original. I miss when Diablo 2 was the center of my world lol.
game used to scare the shiz out of me playing it as a 12 year old lmao
I first met this game at the age of 16 and now I'm 39. I khow how it starts, ends and every bosses every minions but Everytime I play it keeps exciting me.
I like how they're like: "Terrorize hell!", people in hell would likely not be having a great day seeing Diablo marching around.
Absolutely badass cinematic. My favorite by far
Wow, the remastered cinematic look of Mephisto closely resembles his in-game look. Cool!
OMG THE VISUAL IMPROVEMENT IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!
This radiates "me and the boys" energy
Lmfao I like how they made Diablo shrug his shoulders when Mephisto starts talking to him. He just turns around like (Dude seriously? Stfu already I know mf)
1:12 Mephisto looks so funny
He does for sure and looks more realistic in the remastered version compared to original
One of the best evil monologues/incantations I have heard.
2:31 does he say "arise diablo 1"?
It sounds like he says Arise Diablo 1 but I didn’t hear it that way
What the hell Tyrael thinking? As if Marius is supposed to slip past Mephisto, enter the Hell Gate, find his way to the Hellforge, challenge and defeat Hephasto the Armorer then destroy the Soulstone. Marius isn't even armed!
In my opinion this act has the best modifications in all the resurrected cinematics
2:42 that demonic snarl, though!
This cinematic was how it looked to me back in ages past when I was playing.
Netflix ,where is my serial movie about Diablo?
Tyrael: All you had to do, was enter that damn gate, Marius!
that was such a ridiculous ask of Tyrael tho
"walk thorugh the portal into hell and then just walk past the entire hellscape and all the demons and smash the soul stone which surely won't be guarded also i'm not gonna help you" lmao
@@Merknilash Not to mention Marius is just a weak old man...
@@Merknilash to be fair when he asked that he was being imprisoned in tal Rasha's tomb, he didn't have more options, but maybe telling him to find someone who can do it was more possible.
@@Merknilash Izzy would have clapped his cheeks so hard
Tyrael watched Lord of the Ring and wanted Marius to act like the hobbits.
Funny how small changes and omissions of details here and there totally rob the scene of it's impact and make it flat. For example, the shaking when Diablo makes his way to the gate, the framing as he approaches it, the screams growing louder as he enters... none of these are present here in the remade animation and it suffers because of it.
Yes, I fondly remember the shaking of the ground when Diablo walks towards the gate.
Its not that bad and mephisto looks way better in this one imo
i think it does the original justice, pays perfekt homage, love it!
"i heard a voice then...like a thousand needles in my heart"
"enter your credit card number now"
After 20 years, diablo lost weight so he won't shake up cameras.
What I saw then was not meant for mortal eyes.
It was the Vaporeon copypasta.
"I heard a voice then... Like a thousand needles in my heart."
"Is this an out of season April Fool's joke?"
I think it is a out of season April fools joke
I have always wondered about that look Diablo gave Mephisto at 3:05. Was he annoyed?
I think it was the developers trying to interpret this scene. In the original, he seemingly stares at nothing silently for a few seconds, making you think if he was lamenting toward Mephisto or saying goodbye to Marius.
@@reginaldcampos5762I think he might have been saying bye to Marius was interesting for the story cinematics that Marius always followed his companion The Wanderer was sad for him I’m sure to see him turn into Diablo like when his form starts to change after Mephisto Says The Gate Stands Ready!! I was wondering how he turned into Diablo lord of terror for a long time
Am I the only one who thinks Mephisto’s more skeletal form here is supposed to signify his dominion over the undead?
Naturally, His main minions are all vampires, which in Diablo universe are skeleton mages/liches.
The old video was much better. The earthquake with diablos movement had a much stronger effect on his power than without it
1:48 The righteous shall fall before the wicked and all creation shall tremble before the GIRLS standing from hell... Wait WHAT! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
3:06 Now that's excellent photography.
ARISE....DOGZILLA!
After 20 years, I finally understand this cinematic. I never knew what the hell was going on in the original, just heard weird noises and bad lip sync.
Diablo 2 had the best story, It all just flowed really well from 1 and into the LoD expansion
To be honest, it's pretty impressive for Mario (or whatever his name is) to reach the 3rd level of endurance of hate with minimal gears on hardcore. He could have easily died to some doll explosions.
Is the voice actor for Mephisto the same that voices Aldaris in Starcraft?
It might be Paul Eiding he was the voice actor for Aldaris in Starcraft 1 Protoss campaign and brood was campaign like the Tomes
Mephisto: THE SKIES SHALL RAIN FIRE
Baal: Sorry bro, I got to interrupt you for a sec. Who's that hiding in the corner?
Mephisto: oh that’s a mortal he’s with the wanderer who’s now Diablo let him through he’s cool
Marius, the most powerful char in the Diablo history
Walk bare-handed into the temple of Kazarul, without anyone's help.
And then once he enters, how is he going to make it past the legions of demons there to get to the Hell Forge?
turns out the shirt he has on is Enigma.
I mean, he did somehow got to Durance 3 by himself...
Who lights the torches on the walls?
I haven’t played this game for such a long long time, very beautiful graphics, thank you Ubisoft studio, 🙏😍🙏
at 2:57 mins before he walks through the portal Diablo looks back and ask Mephisto why did you skip LEG DAY
Tyrael be like "Alright Marius you got this"
"c'mon Mariuzzzz its just pass tho"
Something so harrowingly eldritch and visceral about this cinematic that leaves you in a state of uneasiness, as if doom itself is approaching through the gate, into your soul...
What happened to Tal Rasha?
Why feels act4 so short and rushed?
Baal uses Tal Rasha as vessel. Like how Diablo uses Aidan (hero from D1).
It’s just me or Diablo looks ripped af ? Maybe HotS was right and he was a wrestler all along
Diablo's host in D 2 is the warrior of Diablo 1, Aidan so it makes sense
His form reflects the body he possessed. In D3 he possessed a girl so he has wide hips and noticable breasts. In D2 he possessed a probably the strongest warrior in the western land so it make sense he'd be very jacked.
@@RichterBelmont2235 yeah
My god this looks amazing!!
Though there are a couple places where the audio balance doesn't seem quite right (music is too loud in some places, sound effects aren't loud enough or are too loud in others)
Still love it though!
This diablo is leaner but pointy and spiky, overall a true beast without any humanity
I never understood how a random guy could just walk unarmed in places where your hero gets absolutely drowned with monsters.
Because the hero isnt escorted by the Lord of Terror...
@@Noksivs that means he should be dead once diablo leaves and if he is escorted, why is he hiding? He's not being escorted.
" ..... And all creation shall tremble before the burning standarts of Hell!"
My beloved cinematic of Diablo II become much more cooler ..... as my beloved Mephisto ^-^
I blame Diablo why I have high expectations in games and movies as an adult
Btw Marius, why didnt you go into the portal like Tyrael told you??
And you would go? Cmon man, many people would just s**t their pants after seeing scene like this. And Marius is not a brave fighter, he's just poor old man, who got tasked with something impossible for him. And I'm not even speaking if fact, that Marius was all by himself, without any angelic support/ anything.
How did they not know that Marius was there? And Tyrael actually expected Marius to go into hell all by himself? Was he serious?
The remaining lesser evils in hell: Azmodan and belial were the ones who exiled the prime evils and stole control of hell from them. They almost for sure would have smashed baals stone to take him out for a few thousand years. Then they would have thrown Marius into eternal damnation for fun. Tyraels plan isn’t “impossible”….
Tyrael buffed him with 10 stacks of Determination.
@@Papibife Diablo never made it to the deeper levels of hell. If you think that the chaos sanctuary and river of flame are all of hell, they are not. It’s just the front door.
@@Papibife Baal probably can't fully transform without his stone. Also, Diablo went to hell to rally what demons he had for his cause, either to assault Sanctuary or fight his dissenting siblings. Baal is useless until he gets his stone and Mephisto doesn't like having large swathes of soldiers, so Diablo would be their general. I don't think they would go all out on Sanctuary immediately because their plan is to corrupt humanity.
Tyrael sent him to his death as a death sentence for being a fool! Lol
