    The Midleton Very Rare is bottled every year in limited quantities. Only single pot still and grain whiskeys from the Midleton Distillery are used, all of which were stored in lightly charred American bourbon barrels. For the 2021 edition, the new Master Distiller Kevin O'Gorman was responsible, who had taken over this task from the Master Barry Crockett.

    Believe it or not this same bottle is in my local Tesco for €200 in Dublin its all marketing with this brand fancy box (what do I with after I have drank the whiskey) very rare produced in the thousands if not hundered of thousands that price for 40% & blended come on pull the other one it has bells on it! Good review telling it like it is Jason!

      I just don't understand the hype around the very rare - the taste does not justify the price

    Writers tears are one of our top 5 in irish Whiskey.

    Totally agree these prices are absurd. That said, I feel like you should be letting these whiskies get a little more air before reviewing. Maybe pour out a few samples for patreon and come back to the bottle a week later for the review, then pour the rest out. I basically put 0 stock into neck pours at this point.

      but straight from the bottle is how the master blender created this whiskey - so that is how I want to experience this whisky. I share my bottles and so everyone gets just a sample which can also not be allowed to change in the bottle. My reviews are almost always neck pours on purpose

      @@WhiskyJason1 I respect the philosophy! ive never actually talked to master blenders so maybe this statement is bs, but I would say that just because the master blender bottled it this way doesnt mean that's how he/she envisions it being consumed. Like wines for example: some of the best chateau's are intentionally putting out wines that are probably at their best after years in the bottle. just a thought.

    I would never invest so much in an Irish Blended whiskey when there are so many absolutely wonderful Irish Single Malts and Single Pot Still expressions out there.

      The pinnacle is Redbreast 21 - totally agree!

    That little sponge is there only with 700ml bottles. When they release them for US market the bottle is 750ml and sponge is not there as the bottle itself is taller. That's the reason why.

      @@WhiskyJason1 in first batch of new bottling of 2017 they used wooden base to raise the bottle up. That looked much better. But soon after they must have realised it was too expensive and swapped to sponge insert that costs probably 1/100th of the wooden piece. All about cost. On the side note '21 - not a great whiskey. Not worth the money in my opinion. Plenty of better ones cheaper.

    You will have to taste the Redbreast 27 year old. In my opinion that is the pinnacle of Irish Whiskey.

    Great whiskey, but slick marketing and packaging have set the price too high. Many other options for better prices.

    I think Midleton lost the plot when they rebranded at the end of 2017. I have the last of the old style bottles 2017 release that I bought for 120 pounds in Scotland at duty free and it’s fabulous. But then midleton rebranded and expanded the range, they changed the box and the bottle and are putting more effort into the presentation than what’s inside the bottle. Very unfortunate

    Hardly a blotch. It's natural wood!

    • @WhiskyJason1
      @WhiskyJason1  2 роки тому +1

      as a former cabinet maker - this is a blotch and that piece of wood should not have been used for this presentation box
