PAA Koa Nui OC1 Race

The PA'A Koa Nui is a 3 stage OC1 race that takes place over two days in Hawaii. The first stage is a 2 mile flat water sprint time trial. 26 heats of 4-5 paddlers were sent out every minute. Each stage has points you can earn for a total at the end of all three stages. The second stage was Makai Pier to Magic island for the long course and Hawaii Kai to Kaimana Beach for the short course. The winds and surf were out of control so they decided to run both the short and long together. The 3rd stage was even longer and the conditions were still super gnarly. They decided to go all out and let the long course stay the original course from Makai Pier to Magic Island (approx 17 miles) and the short course was Hawaii Kai to Magic Island ( approx 11 miles).
I've been wanting to see how I can do in the short course division so I entered. My coach and crew member JR entered with me and we ended up doing really well! JR got second over all and I got second in the 40s division!
I had a blast racing my first Koa Nui and can't wait for next year's race!
