    • @lena-xm6pg

What are you talking about? She was a huge success in the UK and the rest of Europe in the 70s and really has been ever since. Wuthering Heights was her debut single and it was literally a no. 1 hit. All but one of her albums reached the UK Top 5 (at least one entered at no.1), and the only one that didn't still made the Top 10. And that's despite the fact that she only went on a single tour and then decided to never tour again.
Sure, she wasn't as well-known in the States back then (don't think it was a focus either though) but even so, she was still nominated for multiple Grammy Awards during the 80s and 90s.

What did you expect them to do? Mosh? It's not the sort of music to dance to; more one that takes you on an inward journey. That Wuthering Heights was #1 and she was on Top of the Pops somewhat disproves your assertion that most of them thought she would be a complete flop. She released WH when she was 19 and, as she says at the start, she's 20 when she did this performance. She was already insanely successful.
Also, if you watch any Top of the Pops from the 1970s, you'll notice the crowds are nearly always very passive no matter how upbeat the music. Maybe a sign of the times, or maybe they were told not to dance.

Serene, pristine and deranged, nobody should underestimate quite how shocking it was when the teenaged Bush emerged to the world with this haunting piano melodrama of her own creation. Casting herself as tragic heroine Cathy from Emily Bronte’s gothic romance, perhaps the reason so few pop songs are based on classic novels is that they’d have to live up to this.

I remember watching this on TOTPs for the first time in 78 and being knocked out by it . To think a few years before we had Mud, The Rubettes and Kenny. Punk gave music the creative kick up the back side it needed.

I was 15 when this Song was released and I fell in love with the music and that voice, even not knowing the Singer and how does she look. It took a while until I finally see that beautiful girl singing and dancing on TV, and she never got out of my head since then.
45 years later ... here I am watching you, dear Kate , and still loving you and your outstanding Songs. But I know that my love is only one among millions of people around the world that loves you too.
Wish you all the BEST, my dear Lady Kate Bush. THANK YOU !
