Alanis was everywhere in 1995 and 1996. I was 27/28 years old then, and worried about being an "old man" at age 30! Boy, were my worries unjustified! I would give anything to go back to those carefree days and my youth. You guys did a great job on this review. The video was weird, but hey, that's Alanis.
Right?!? I'll be 48 in a few months, I don't know how far I'd go to get back to 30, but it would be pretty damn far!

Everybody says the stuff isn't ironic but here is the definition of Ironic: happening in the opposite way to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this.....rain on your wedding day,last minute pardon, no smoking sign ,a free ride when you're already late, meeting a your dream guys wife, a bunch of spoons when you need a knife etc. all sound like they fit that definition to me at least.
Irony is a situation turned directly onto itself; i.e. a burning fire truck. Situational irony (also called the irony of events) is only irony if you have an expectation of an outcome prior to that outcome. In order to have an expectation, you have to be invested before you learn the twist. the twist comes too fast in this song to be irony most of the time, and often lacks the context necessary for irony.
Let's take the chorus: Rain on your wedding day is only irony 1) you planned an outdoor wedding and 2) you were positive there wouldn't be any rain (doesn't really roll off the tongue as a lyric. Besides it rained on my wedding day, but since I had an indoor wedding, it didn't matter and, thus, was not ironic). A free ride when you've already paid; only ironic if other factors are true (if you're taking a municipal bus and bought your ticket at a kiosk only to find out the bus's reader was down so the ride was free, that's situational irony. If you paid for a rental car and then your friend just offered to drive you, that's not irony, it's coincidence.) The good advice that you just didn't take isn't irony or coincidence, it's just what happens about 50% of the time, so...just life?
There is some irony present in the song ("10,000 spoons...", "Meeting the man of my dreams..."), but the whole song isn't ironic on it's face, because it lacks the necessary information and context in it's examples to evoke irony.
Of course, all us Brits to laugh at this. It seems the US misunderstanding about what irony actually is extends to the Canadians 😂 Literally *nothing* in this song is ironic lol.

They are technically situational ironies. According to Wikipedia: Situational irony is a relatively modern use of the term, and describes a sharp discrepancy between the expected result and actual results in a certain situation. For example:

It's a fact driving is much more dangerous than flying, but it's hard getting past knowing that when the plane breaks down or runs out of gas you can't just get out and walk or call a cab/uber.
Fun fact, Alanis didn't care to much for this song and didn't really think it should be on the album but it turned out to be one of her biggest hits! Once that happened she thought. I think I need to give this song a second look? In time she grew to understand why people love it so much. Now isn't that kind of Ironic?
People in the comments forget that there's multiple types of irony.
The type of irony being highlighted is dramatic irony. The audience already knows what's going to happen before she finishes each example despite the subject in each scenario not really knowing what's going to happen to them despite their intentions.
It's the oldest type of irony known in storytelling.
