I just returned the Ulanzi because it sounded terrible compared to my Boya lapel mic into a Zoom h1n. After hearing this review, it kind of sounds the same. Flat mid range, zero low end. Sounds like a cell phone call. My latest video "The Highway Killer", was the Ulanzi into my cell phone and it took a lot of processing to make it usable. I almost abandoned the entire video due to the audio. It's better than just the phone mic but it's a major downgrade from a lapel into phone, camera or external recorder. I suggest spending $30 more than this and getting the Zoom h1n and a $15 Boya lapel mic. Much better quality sound and unlimited range to move around. Thanks for the review I almost picked this up to see if it was better than the Ulanzi.
Hi I'm also confused about which one to buy the ulianzi j12 or this one, I need it for the iphone but they really sound like a phone call and not even better than the iphone mic, can you suggest some good model?
@@stopme3115 I went back to using my Boya M1 into my Zoom H1n. Almost all of the video of the video on my page of me talking on camera is the Boya MM1. I like it so much I ended up buying their two other models. The pro version and the version that doesn't need a battery. My voice overs are the Rode Nt1. The Boya sounds pretty good but I recently found the free Ignite Amps PTEQ-X plug in which makes the Boya sound way better. Look up Thomas Fransson's video "Make Boya BY-M1 Sound Better". He explains the EQ and has the link. My video that I post tonight (Captain John Smith) will be the Boya M1 using the PTEQ-X for the first time. I think it made a huge difference in fatness and clarity with a $15 mic.
FYI, I ended up buying the DJI wireless mic. Definitely worth the extra money. I used it straight into the transmitter itself (no, lapel mic) on my last video "Capitol Pillars", if interested.
I generally like Boya products, but am glad I watched this. I bought another cheaper brand and it might actually sound a little better? Who knows? Mine is just for when I use my phone in my vehicle while recording. I just wanted something light, small & simple. Don't want to drag put the big boy mics for that purpose. Thx again for your review!!
Sorry, this comment just hit my email today. The one I bought quit working, after a few uses, so it's not worth mentioning. 😒 It's not even listed on Amazon anymore.
You didn't test the noise cancellation feature. If you press the power button twice it turns on and slowly blinks blue. That's what the description says at least. Not many of these reviews out there so maybe you can post an update?
I’m currently doing travel vlogs. Been having sound issues and I am looking to invest in a good mic for our next travel. Can you guys recommend a good one with noise cancelling?
It's a common issue with cheaper mics, i have a fifine and lacks the same. Absolute volume it's not that high. And there is a limit that you can put on gain before messing the audio. But for the price the quality is IMPRESSIVE. I mean, if you start a youtube channel this is the best quality to start with. Especially for someone who does not have money for +100usd audio equipment.
No, you got it right and answer here is 'self-noise'. Sounds that we hear are what is picked up by mic PLUS electrical noise produced by mic itself. In moments of silence you can hear hissing on the background - it is produced by stray voltages within mic itself. So manufacturers deliberately turn down the gain to make this less noticeable. If you are to turn gain up later on in editing hissing comes back in full it's glory. Rode NT1a has the reputation of having lowest self-noise to price ratio - but it have to be used with audio interface. But with it I can record myself whispering from across the room, turn up gain in editing and be able to hear myself without drowning in hissing.
@@ijustwanttogosailing8248 Excellent review. We were picking up that hissing noise during moments of silence as you mentioned We tried to figure it out and ended up on your post I guess what mom said is true. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR I will spend more $$$$$$$
I have two theories. 1. Boya did not want to make different circuits, so they used the same board for 3.5 mm and USB-C / lightning ones and we got an extra unnecessary USB port on the receiver. 2. The windscreen does not fit because it was made for models like M1 or BY-V10, which have modular mic capsule heads, whereas WM3T2 has the mic capsule hidden inside the chassis.
Hola, he comprado un microfono Boya BY-WM3T2-U1, pero al conectarlo a mi android este no lo reconoce ¿me puede explicar por qué? ¿existe alguna aplicación especifica para dicho microfono? gracias.

I wonder the same. I just returned the Ulanzi because it was terrible compared to my Boya lapel mic into external recorder. So now wondering about this one.
@@runningintohistory they are similar, what problem were you having with your Ulanzi? Mine seem to work great and capture great audio, you might have got a bad set
@@wiillthebarbertv9415 there wasn't necessarily a problem. If I wasn't already used to running a lapel mic into my external recorder I would have loved it. It was just for me a downgrade in audio quality. It's difficult to hear the difference with cell phone speakers but through my editing rig or truck system it's just not up the level of sound I want to release. It's definitely better than just straight cell phone audio. Was just a downgrade from my normal setup. I'm also a musician so I am particular about my audio.
