If they transplanted some of the open world Ideas from this to 2010 Hot pursuit freeroam. It would basically be perfect. Like having racers in the open world that you have to bust. Or random outrun races in open world that may have cops. something closer to how Most Wanted worked.

Rivals is underrated imo the cop chases are intense and the car list was nice since it brought cars like Enzo Ferrari and Lamborghini Veneno and the career was also fun especially the final race in Grand Tour it was a really close race. Overall, Rivals is one of my favourite NFS games I had alot of fun playing it on my Xbox 360 and it's much more fun than 2015, Payback and even Heat to a certain extent. Plus you should use Turbo and Jammer it's the best PT combination and it works really well
I think if this game was remastered so that it fixed the bugs, 30fps cap and added 1 or 2 new vehicles for each side, along with adding some sort of anti-cheat to the online multiplayer, it would easily be one of, if not the best nfs game
It's difficult for me to say that it's underrated due to the massive amounts of jank it has, between the perpetual host migration in public lobbies, the now sadly departed Network only content and the later patches that introduced instant softlock zones. I appreciate how every element of the game that does work does a great job of selling the game's atmosphere, which is definitely quite different from usual NFS fare.
Great game but am I the only one that thought the map felt small? Like a lot of pursuits would have you drive across a good portion of the map. Maybe its just because the roads aren't very dense, but HP2010 feels bigger for some reason.
You are not the only one. In fact, even that i love this game, sonething i always hated about Rivals is how small the map is. I know they had 1 year or less to create the map, but it fells so small and kinda emphty, even without comparing it with hp2010
It was a decent game in my opinion, nothing special but it can be fun for a few hours the only thing I hate is the fact that the fps was locked at 30 even on PC. Nowadays there is some kind of fix that unlocks fps but I haven't tested it myself yet
60 fps actually changes the game's behavior as well, one example is Sesto Elemento's performance which the car is having problems to shift up to 6th gear. The more obvious one, is the EMP. Faster lock-on due to unlocked FPS.
Yeah, you guys are both right. I googled it a bit more and found out that the game only functional as intended if played with locked fps. It's really a shame that the developers never fixed that
One tip that I like to use, is I get a racer down to one HP while I am also a racer and once he's about to die I do a head-to-head, then after the race starts I just finish him and win.

I have played NFS Rivals for years and that's what I think: Rivals is a good game (underrated indeed). Gameplay wise, it is an improvement of NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 by adding the open world and partial customization. I like the concept to make your car unique by installing 2 of 11 Pursuit Tech available. The problem of NFS Rivals for me is the game itself is less efficient to play. In PC, it needs to be stored inside HDD with 7200 RPM or SSD to run it smoothly. Also, the cars is exotic exclusive. It needs more tuners and muscles to be more "realistic" approach.
Rivals focuses on sports cars, super cars, and hyper cars. If they add JDM cars in Rivals they have less durability and speed in order to outrun the cops. Well 2 of them are, which are in the cop career, which is the LFA and the GT-R.
@@ralphlorenzperolino3054 I just wanted some variety of the cars. If not JDM then something more durable like trucks and SUVs may also included in the type of game like this.
This game seems to be pvp focused in light of the abilities.. Even my father in law who is a terrible gamer, (plays cod campaigns and never any mp) started playing the game as a burnout title. And trying to wreck the cars. All about wrecking them before they wreck you. Pvp is massively fun to go around owning people let alone beating them in a race when they get salty. Also fun to see how high of a score you can get by wrecking cop cars and careful and strategically using the repair stations to keep your car from getting wrecked itself. See if you guys can get past around 5m. That was bloody tough. Then banking it by racing away to the hideout. Bloody hell intense game. Fun as hell racers in the story mode. Some wrong moves can cost you / some require a few tries to finish. Love the game. Brought my family a lot of good memories. Even my non gamer s/o loved trying to rack up a high score :)
Just like Hot Pursuit, this game had a brilliant concept, and I actually prefer it in many ways to Hot Pursuit 2010. It was loads of fun for both career sides and had an awesome soundtrack. But it's a fact that the game was very buggy and unfinished and had a lot of wrong features like the "no pause" thing or the "online only" requirement, and the biggest killer for me: faction specific car list. It should've been 2 or 3 cars exclusive to one side and the rest of the list should've been common for both sides. It would be great if they remake this game and fix these issues. We could really use a Rivals 2.
The only underrated feature of Rivals imho was the quality of the multiplayer. Game was buggy and not as good as the NFS games from my childhood like HP2, MW and Carbon, but holy DAMN did i make some amazing memories with my best friend on Rivals.
I guess that NFS Rivals was neither good or bad, it was fine in terms of graphics, soundtrack, car selection and map but most players didn't notice it due to game glitchiness, poor driving physics, 30 FPS cap and so on, I for example hate the fact that I can't do something as simple as pause the game beacuse developers did not implement it, cops are way too strong and few other quirks but still I sometimes come back to play it
"Cops are overpowered" *racers with Shockwave and ESF, casually going on a rampage and chasing player cops half the time, while the other half, they just use jammer and turbo on the One:1 to escape.* Racers are overpowered if you ask me, but then we do have ways to handle racers that want to start the offensive
Im torn between getting this or hot pursuit remastered... Thoughts ? From what ive read the cops in rivals might frustrate me too much .. are they just as intense in hot pursuit? Im new to nfs games
Didn’t like hot pursuit at all was worried about getting rivles when first came out, loved it think rivals is so much better then hot pursuit, in that it’s same roads with nowhere really to go but straight, this had all sorts I loved the freedom
Ghost's NFS pretty much suffered bad fates for me. Rivals : OK, but what kept me away are you can't pause the game and lack of customisations. 2015 : Mediocre. What kept me away are always online and shitty handling and physics. Payback : Worst. What kept me away are cringe characters and gambling systems. Heat : Awesome, Ghost finally hit the mark. But once again, what kept me away are lack of post-launch support and it become too short.
On a more serious note, I think this game had to potential to be much better. The progression is ok, the car list I approve (I like how the cars are separated into racers and cops and there are no cars that you can both race or be a cop in). The performance upgrades could have been better. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the weapons, but it made sense for them to be in the game, as they were featured in NFS HP2010. Having no pause was absolute bullshit. No way in hell can EA justify themselves for that. I also wasn't a fan of cops turning to chase you, even if you are driving at 30km/h. The soundtrack was ok, it fit the game and is representative of the period in time when the game was released (not being able to turn dynamic music off was a dumb move as well). I think that's about it
@@tolyo96 Pre-DLC, there is one car that is available to both, though: Aston Martin Vanquish. Based on Need for Speed's King of the Road Facebook poll. This car won.
I dont understand what do people always mean when they say "the sense of speed" while driving almost 300 kmh... driving 300 in a game looks like 150 IRL which aint good sense of speed in my opinion... also what is SUS is that I know some corners IRL where I can easily go 110 but a similar shaped corner in a game on semislick tyres, nada... I think racing games should start to be more realistic... We have the technology to make a good racing game but nobody cares and they just slam us with games like FH5 that has graphical issues, 60% of your gametime is loading and waiting or listening to boring conversations and cutscenes... or we get NFS Unbound that is actually great game but does not support steering wheels... I hate this... If a game is about cars, it should have wheel support and proper FFB... its like selling a car without a steering wheel and pedals and making it in a way so you cannot even put it there... I do like Rivals though but The Run was way better concept... if it could be one long race in one car then it would be awesome just thinking u have to overtake hundereds of racers and finish first... Rivals were good but the problem I had was them cops... I just hated how weird it was cuz I doubt cops would use lambo to ram people and it was just weird for me... R35 GTR is a heavy car so it makes sense a bit... but lambo or anything else is pointless...
For Xbox One, Series X/S & PlayStation user: if you have An EA Play & see need for speed rival, i'm recommended all of you (Xbox One, Series X/S & PlayStation user) don't download need for speed rival on EA play. It might be affect crash the game when you login 2 times. I'm already login the game few times. Yep, the need for speed rival can't open forever
If you played the 90s to early 2000s NFS games such as NFS 2, NFS Hot Pursuit(1998), High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed and Hot Pursuit 2, this game brought back the olden days of NFS when NFS was all about racing sports cars, supercars, hypercars on open roads, with no customization or fancy gimmics. NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals went back to the OG Need For Speed Route, before all of the tuner, ricer culture fad took over.
I think it's time for studios and teams, shutdown by EA, to join forces and create hardcore competitors or killers for the most popular franchises of this company. Indies are starting to take over, since the horrible Big Tech practices. Hell, there was a single guy working on a AAA-like game for the company that published Ryse (wich sucked).
This game was something unique and very under rated. I think they could have made it better but it was great regardless.
This game really pushed the ps3 /xbox 360 hardware to it's limits
Yeah the X360 version ran fine for me there were bugs but they were in all versions however I enjoyed this game alot
The set of cars should be added in next NFS.
The only underrated feature of Rivals imho was the quality of the multiplayer. Game was buggy and not as good as the NFS games from my childhood like HP2, MW and Carbon, but holy DAMN did i make some amazing memories with my best friend on Rivals.
Do yall remember when Theo used to MURDER this and Criterion like a decade ago?? Good times 🤣
I'd say it is overhated. It is a genuinely good 8th gen NFS game and is quite a bit better than Hot Pursuit in my opinion.
I guess that NFS Rivals was neither good or bad, it was fine in terms of graphics, soundtrack, car selection and map but most players didn't notice it due to game glitchiness, poor driving physics, 30 FPS cap and so on, I for example hate the fact that I can't do something as simple as pause the game beacuse developers did not implement it, cops are way too strong and few other quirks but still I sometimes come back to play it
i didn't finish this game but i still think it was a solid nfs, it was a lot of fun
"Cops are overpowered"
*racers with Shockwave and ESF, casually going on a rampage and chasing player cops half the time, while the other half, they just use jammer and turbo on the One:1 to escape.*
Racers are overpowered if you ask me, but then we do have ways to handle racers that want to start the offensive
13:10 The Easydrive has a similar thing
I recently replayed it because a friend liked it and i think its pretty good
Im torn between getting this or hot pursuit remastered... Thoughts ? From what ive read the cops in rivals might frustrate me too much .. are they just as intense in hot pursuit?
Im new to nfs games
Hot Pursuit remastered
The only other nfs i would love to see on switch
Definitely an underrated Gem. I love this game so much💎💯🔥
I still love this game till this day sure it has is faults but what game does not have its faults if you wanna have a good time pick this game up
30fps cap on PC. WHAT!!!! Thank God, i was planning to buy this game in a few days. NO Deal Ghost.
Just patch it to higher haha
@@KuruHS yeah might try it😅, does it negatively effect the game in any way
I got it for free on PS3
It's very stable there, never encountered any bugs.
Best criterion need for speed.
I honestly view Rivals as nothing but a story DLC for HP2010
Still better than any nfs released since then.
this game never worked for me (i have recommended graphics and cpu) and it stuttered so hard on every single graphic settings
Perhaps try an SSD? Fixes most of the problems.
@@dbclass4075 i have 2 SSD's in my pc and they're the only drives i have
Rivals is 10x better than unbound
4:40 - 4:50 what was the song? i forgot lol
if you like being chased by the cops every 2 minutes, this is the game for you
On a more serious note, I think this game had to potential to be much better.
The only thing this game has over Hot Pursuit is the open world and honestly i don't think it's worth it
One of my favorite nsf games.
Is NFS rivals still online in 2022? Thank you!
Until now it is, so you'll encounter players on the road.
9:47 Whoever played Uranoid: Thumbs up
I dont understand what do people always mean when they say "the sense of speed" while driving almost 300 kmh... driving 300 in a game looks like 150 IRL which aint good sense of speed in my opinion... also what is SUS is that I know some corners IRL where I can easily go 110 but a similar shaped corner in a game on semislick tyres, nada...
Nfs rivals is basicly knock off of hot pursuit 2010 but hey knock offing own series is not a problem right?....
love this game so much
For Xbox One, Series X/S & PlayStation user: if you have An EA Play & see need for speed rival, i'm recommended all of you (Xbox One, Series X/S & PlayStation user) don't download need for speed rival on EA play. It might be affect crash the game when you login 2 times. I'm already login the game few times. Yep, the need for speed rival can't open forever
It one of the best nfss, my opinion
ESF can counter Stun Mines.
This was the first game i got platinum on psn
If you played the 90s to early 2000s NFS games such as NFS 2, NFS Hot Pursuit(1998), High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed and Hot Pursuit 2, this game brought back the olden days of NFS when NFS was all about racing sports cars, supercars, hypercars on open roads, with no customization or fancy gimmics.
NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals went back to the OG Need For Speed Route, before all of the tuner, ricer culture fad took over.
Its a cool game, without the glitches xD
❤️
I really don’t like the lightning atmosphere in this game. It looks like Battlefield 4 with cars. I like Hot Pursuit more
Rivals is the best game ever
It's and underrated gem for me.
Sometimes enjoyed that game (mostly because of the NFS movie cars) but damn that game is glitchy and full of cheaters holy crap
How he get 60 fps?
Nah it was a bit better than hot pursuit for sure
I think it's time for studios and teams, shutdown by EA, to join forces and create hardcore competitors or killers for the most popular franchises of this company.
Indies are starting to take over, since the horrible Big Tech practices. Hell, there was a single guy working on a AAA-like game for the company that published Ryse (wich sucked). Dunno what happened then but just think of the potential!
F&F Crossroads was meant to be like that, and it made me stopped believing the whole "hero of the consumer" shtick long before the whole Cyberpunk drama
Best nfs game less go
