The thing about Rivals and Hot Pursuit 2010 is that they're often dubbed as "Battlefield but with cars" and honestly, i don't think that's a bad thing, it sounds like a lot of fun. The whole idea of 2 factions, Cops vs Racers, with special equipment that can basically be described as weapons set in an open world map sounds like an absolute blast.
@@boris001000 Rivals looks the most real compared to all the need for speeds, still hold's up to this day when I show it to anyone who comes at my house on the tv lol

I love this game. Yeah it doesn't have extreme customization but who cares. Looks good, plays good, it's fun, it's different, and the car selection is decent. Idk why NFS fans don't like this game.

@@serperior2264Even though I dont consider myself as a fan of japanese cars nor a fan of the import tuner culture, NFS Underground is still one of my favourite NFS due to the insane level of customization. Not to mention at that time it was really a revolutionary game. Everytime I go back to play with it, I either choose the Neon or the Civic and just rice it out 🤣. But I know what you mean. These supercars and hypercars are better untouched, in factory conditions.
4:17 This is something I discovered by myself years after playing the game for the first time. I'll also praise Ghost Games for not using this feature in any marketing material unlike numerous games these days that advertise features that will be seen maybe once or twice during the entirety of your playthrough.
They also didn't advertise 69 DISTINCT BIOMES and UNIQUE CAR SOUNDS. Hell the Crew 2 has added a stormy weather with a simple update while FH5 presented its sandstorms like the second coming of jesus. Honestly PG have become so lazy its not even funny but rather pathetix.
This was my first NFS game growing up and I recently picked it up on Steam. All these years later and I still feel the adrenaline pumping while I outrun entire police forces. Every time I play there is never a dull moment. The music, the radio chatter, the debris , the roaring engines and flashing sirens. This is my kind of NFS. Chaotic, destructive, loud, high-speed, no holds barred, no mercy, gladiator match of a racing game.
This means you're alive, congratulations. We have a world full of zombies now, and even in racing games they want "realism". Realism, real physics simply means sloppy gameplay, slow cars, and just eye candy graphics which are meaningless.
look up kuru’s video on this mod that makes the game WAY HARDER i’m talking, you could be on 7-8 min run on the grand tour and the other ai racers will still be close behind you they move brah
Rivals definitely has its shortcomings but that Risk vs Reward factor is much stronger compared to Heat. Review County (which is much more inspired by Northern California than Seacrest is) is actually fun to drive and traverse. Customization is what's needed for a game like Rivals and HP 2010 and done well. I do think the stories could've been written better cause there's ideas I see that they're going for and I liked. Overall, Rivals is often seen as one of Need For Speeds Black Sheep, but It's fun along with what feel is a much more refined handling model compared to MW 2012.
The funny thing is i loved the blacksheep of this series , i love most wanted 2012 cuz its a game u can just jump into and have fun , an aspect tht many games today r lacking , i also love the run bcuz of its concept , racing to save ur own ass , plus its intense and ridiculous situations like outrunning a train , racing down the mountain in an avalanche , outrunning badguys shooting at u , plus the bosses in tht game were fun asf and lets not forget tht final race🤣 , rivals also follows like hot pursuit and most wanted 2012 where again u just jump in and have some fun , thts wht it means to be an arcade racer but nowadays everyone wants boring ass realism
the cops and racers balancing is the WORST in this game, but looking past the inane difficulty when being a racer, this game is really good. your health felt a little too sensitive though, any small collision would damage your car and over time thats going to slowly chip away at your health.
Oddly I actually thought the balance was somewhat in the other direction. I beat the entire racer career mode and I think I was only ever pulled over twice? It's not super difficult to keep your car up and running. On the other side though, as a cop, I found it much more difficult to keep up with racers as their cars have much more effective boost, so you have to balance much more precise driving on corners with much more aggressive slamming maneuvers on the straights to take out racers. I always found it much harder to be a cop.
@@MrRadicalMovesI agree as well. Not to mention it's harder to grind money and get better Pursuit Tech as a cop since they're way more expensive yet essential to bust racers in the first place; while racers can just get cheapo Turbo and reinforcement, pretty much set for anything even without the other upgrades.
Honestly I prefer the balancing in this game. This game felt like an actual challenge and trained you to remember gas station locations so you wouldn't be destroyed or pulled over and as long as you use the pursuit tech and maneuver through areas right you can definitely escape.
The "server issues" were mainly due to the host of the game leaving, as it runs using peer to peer, if you adjusted your all drive settings to single-player or private room then you wouldn't get disconnected
Definitely wasn't my first (I played all through the "golden era" nfsu, nfsu2, nfsmw, nfsc, nfsps, nfshp...) but when this came out I was bedridden in hospital, and this game was there for me. Love it to death.
Both Rivals and Hot Pursuit 2010 were awesome games with an outstanding soundtrack, a huge diverse map, and a long list of cars , however the brake to drift element was a big let down for me. I wish it had a "normal" arcadey handling where you would still need to brake before corners to reduce your speed. I am not talking about sim or even simcade levels here. Nfs Carbon is a good example for that. The canyon races in that game was soo much more fun than the handling in both of these games. But hey, thats only my personal preference. Maybe others liked it 🤷♂
Same, still love it tho... I remember finding a way to run it at 60 or even 144 FPS without it being double or more the speed, it caused some graphical artifacts tho and I don't even remember how it was done anymore.
This is what I want back in Need for Speed - Intensity and Brutalness. I appreciate them upping the ante in Heat, but the violence and tension in past titles has been greatly toned down, and the same goes pretty much every other racing game in the past decade. Basically, things have been greatly sanitized. Also, the voice lines may be cheesy, but I sure as hell love 'em. Beats whatever the hell we've been getting recently.
heat had brutal cop chases just like rivals... untill they've nerfed it, because of the crybabys who kept whining about how hard they were. i really hope unbound fixes all the issues.
Heat had the potential to be a modern day High Stakes if they didn't nerf the police AI in the late January/early February update following its release... But was band aided up badly and left to rot. If they would have added an additional heat level to spread out that difficulty ramp up and more riskier racer options like betting parts or even pink slips (kinda like High Stakes, MW2005, Carbon, Payback) then that would have been SWEET for its time! Unbound got close to that idea just... questionable... execution of it with their buy ins and all or nothing races.
@@purwantiallan5089 It's the police AI, that is the reason why Rivals' cops are out for blood. It says in the cutscene of the game that Redview's cops are ready to kill every Racer in sight, even Player Racers. It's not a little broken, it's a lot broken because the cops in Rivals are way too strong for the Racers to have a fair chance of fighting back. You can fight 1 - 3 cops in the mix but when multiple cops spawn in driving hyper cars, it's time to make a dash for it, and just pray to God that you do not wanna get annihilated by the cops because one wrong move and your speedpoints will be gone for good.
Even though I'm a Gran Turismo fanboy, this is honestly... my favorite racing game of all time, and one of my most loved games ever. I didn't know about this game at launch, because I was like 6 or 7 when it launched, too busy playing Asphalt 7 and 8 and Minecraft on my father's iPad. A few years passed and I found out about this game in 2020 while mindlessly wandering around in UA-cam. It was the remix of Pompeii by Bastille from this game's OST. I immediately loved it, just because of the songs. I looked a bit at the gameplay, and immediately I bought it. The graphics looked pristine, even though I knew this was a game from 2013, and the gameplay? Out of this world. This is the most fun I've had in a game ever. Sure, it had its big problems, such as the racer-cop balancing (like another comment stated), with cops kinda just feeling a bit meh to play, the endless glitches on PC, and the always online thing. I always question why it has so much hate around it, like, the costumisation is fine, the lack of a livery editor restricts me from the possibility making endless itashas (which is honestly a blessing as I can spend absurd amounts of time making a car look ugly). It is genuinely a dream of mine for like a sequel of this game to come out, or at least a remaster. I love this game so much. Thank you so much for the vid, you got a new sub!
@@adrianct5585 Ok so you're saying that the game completely sucks just because there's no city????? Ok, well, if so, then apparently NFS Hot Pursuit sucks ass, along with any NFS game to not have a city??? I respect your opinion if you don't like the game, that's up to you, but at least think before you write something stupid... You could've at least said "I didn't enjoy the game because I didn't like the map", not "this game completely sucks because there's no city"...
Great video. This game for me was a child with no special talent who I loved with all my heart. It's one of those games I wish to start again without any memories.
The one thing about this map that i loved more than any other was the fact that i rarely had to use the directions cause i always new how to get around. I new where every single gas station was, every single hideout and every command centre. The map was small enough to allow you to memorize it all quite easily yet it still gave us more than any other map to date with its variety
Yes the map doesn't make any sense realistically, but it is a utopia for racing game, especially combined with Madeon - Technicolor playing in the background, absolutely wonderful
Easily my favorite Ghost NFS game by a mile. The risk vs reward pursuits are so intense perhaps even more so than MW'05, the sense of speed (especially using Turbo) is possibly the best the series has ever have since Speed Challenges in ProStreet, and the races are just so fun to play because the AI are no slouch along with a map/world that is a pleasure to drive through (the unfinished bridge is seriously one of my favorite place in any racing game). My biggest issue really was the cop/racer exclusive cars since I really wanted to race in the LFA, along with lower tier cars being irrelevant in endgame. I wish once you finished the story you'd unlock an upgrade that lets low tier car gets on par with the highest tier cars.
I really like the NFS Series and the streetracing. But as soon as i heared about rivals and the 2 sides feature, i was totally in. Hot Pursuit allowed you too yes.. But Rivals is the only game that allows you to freeroam as a cop, have actual intense pursuits with backup, heat levels and more. For this reason alone i spend way to many hours playing as a cop. If i want to be a racer i can play almost all the other NFS. But rivals finally gave me that long wanted switch that i wanted in the good old NFS arcade style. Even to this day i barely played racer and only played cop. The feeling of being the 5-0 with good backup is just THAT different feeling i always wanted.
7:42 This is Yuri Lowenthal who did the Racer voice for the trailer. He is the voice actor for Sasuke Uchiha. This was very cool for the trailer. "You are my rival" is the kind of line that was said a few different times in Naruto. NFS Rivals was a very stylish, smooth playing and brutal game with good music. This and HP2010 go hand in hand.
This game is truly Beautiful, the Cinematics people have made are Astounding. Sounds are typical Need for Speed quality (Amazing), and by far the most adrenaline I've experienced in Need for Speed since Carbon.
One thing I had an issue with was the cinematics not actually changing anything. For instance, once they "brought in the VRT", the patrol cars still stayed the same. You were already unlocking supercars, and when the VRT showed up, the cars just felt like they weren't even a step up. Just the continuance of going to better cars, with the same Redview county liveries for each car. All cars are rubberbanded in heat level and class to whatever you pick, so it just didn't flow well. >Oh, x happens? This is gonna be cool, I wanna see what y looks like. >Nope, nothing changed. Patrol cars are literally the same as before. Whenever you say you are changing a story element, you absolutely need to show that change. As for the story, call me insane but I think it should have been required for the player to complete both racer and cop sides at the same storyline, requiring alternation. This would help the devs keep the story chronological. It would also help them create more custom-designed "cutscenes" to keep the ball rolling and actually make the player think they did something, and that wrecking one specific cop out of the 19,000,000 cops in redview actually made a difference. All in all, the story just didnt interact with the gameplay enough.
I loved this game when it came out. I made up a storyline in my head that the Racer and Cop protagonists are estranged brothers who still loved each other but will stop at nothing to take each other down.... Ahhh good times :)
If EA decided to work on Rivals even more and patched a few more bugs/glitches and put more marketing towards it, this game would be pretty unstoppable in comparison to other games. I've finished 2015 and Heat but they feel empty once you do everything, Rivals on the other hand you can come back to it and play it more even after you finish everything.
Man I've just watched Driver San Francisco, cars 2 and now this. You deserve more views and way more subscribers. The way you go into such detail, description and unique terminology while having enjoyment for the viewer isn't something common on UA-cam at all. 👏
I think that Rivals is everything I want NFS to be. Even if it’s not the best it could be. Nowadays it’s always about “more cars, more customization” even at the cost of the game. It’s why I think I’ve never jived with 2015 and up (I did quite enjoy payback) I’m just trying to understand why we can’t get more games like Rivals. It might be my favorite NFS game. If not Carbon.
This game EXTREMELY surpassed my already high expectations. It had an awesome map, perfect soundtrack, and great vehicles. The pursuit tech was a very fun and interesting addition, and bringing back playing as a cop was an amazing idea. F8 and Zephyr were the protagonists I never knew I needed. Despite it being a more dark and gritty game than most other NFS’s it still was amazing. The cops were definitely… violent, to say the least, and Grand Tour, the final mission where you circuit race around the ENTIRE map took me waaaay to long to beat because of the intensity and frequency of cop assaults. This game introduced me to Brick + Mortar, RDGLDGRN, and gave me another taste of the musical talent of X Ambassadors (Who NFS 2012 introduced me to) All in all, while not my favourite game, it is a VERY close second. MW 2012 will always be my #1 so no “new” NFS game will ever break my top 2, because Rivals and Most Wanted are locked in there forever. The story was larger than MW’s but still less prominent than that of other NFS games, but it was still a refreshing change of pace. Seriously though, Zephyr and F8 were such bad-asses. I have only beat the Campaign as Zephyr, and him getting into that MASSIVE collision at the end, only to say more edgy crap, then turn his engine back on, and dip. F8 taking out Zephyr only to become a racer because he was discharged from the force was an amazing and hilarious turn. All in all, game is 20/10, and just perfection.
The soundtrack was fucking badass. Aside from Rock, EDM suits in racing really well. Only legends know that when the beat drops, you press your Turbo, and watch as your adrenaline runs through your blood.
Welcome me to the gang, my top 3 nfs are the same, including Carbon! Rivals, MW-2012 are the worlds I would love to live in, if I could. These are just timeless games that will never get old for me, and I'm very happy even after seeing the current pathetic direction of entire racing game industry ,that people like me exist. Stay Rivals guys, 😅 let the mediocrity of today never affect y'all!
@@ralphlorenzperolino3054 I know the feeling! When you're flying at more than 250km/h on the highway, with Destroid - Put It Down, makes you wanna explode 😅
The handling was a learning curve for me . I had not played any game from the Need for Speed franchise before , and learning the brakes made me quit this game once , but oh boy did I love the game the second time around . I had gotten so much free time on my hands that I went on to unlock EVERY SINGLE type of police vehicle (Undercover , Patrol and Enforcer) for every car . Yes I did succeed , and yes it was time-consuming , but oh BOY was it worth it! I loved the police career more because losing the speedpoints was no worry and you get every car for free . After that I did the Racer career and loved the game even more
I think the biggest weaknesses this game had were the inability to pause and how you would lose ALL your points if you got arrested. HP 2010 is still my favorite NFS but Rivals is probably one of the best looking NFS games and has a really unique car list and atmosphere that makes it stand out from all the others.
i mena that's the best thing, if you suck you loose points, scrub it's the game telling you that you are busted and that you need to git gud, not a weakness, a strenght imo, makes shit intense
@@Celatra The multiplayer was limited to 6 players per map and all of them had to gather at the same place to start an event. Basically, you had to coordinate with 5 friends in order to have a proper multiplayer experience. On top of that there was no car class restriction. The multiplayer had no structure and I never had a good multiplayer experience. Hot Pursuit 2010, Most Wanted 2012, and even The Run had far superior multiplayer modes.
The thing with how aggressive the cops are, is that it really makes you choose whether to be a glass cannon or a mix of speed and strength. There’s a reason you might choose an F12 Berlinetta over a Hennessy venom GT for the final race
He meant there's a reason why you had to pick a Ferrari F12 over a Lamborghini Aventador for the final race , The Grand Tour The final cop mission is Zero Hour , where you have to bust a racer with a heat lvl 10 to unlock the Hennessey Venom GT
What I don't really like about rivals is that I need a miracle to even escape the lowest heat level (since the helicopter never leaves you) and hope that I can hold my pee longer than the pursuit + travel to safehouse safely because pausing is not a thing in this game.
the main issues I had with this game is just 2: 1-The cars felt super-lightweight meaning that grabbing 10cm's of air would completely delete your grip and control and would propel you on the nearest wall and the camera going down at the end of high jumps makes you blind for a few seconds making you exteremly vulnerable for thr infamous traffic to crash you out (at least you can quickly switch camera right before landing to negate this effect) 2-Racer's health was really sensitive and this was really stupid and then to "fix" this they put repair stations almost everywhere and made their cooldown 10 seconds. But aside from these issues the pursuit track and the adrenaline you had at heat 10 was unbeatable definetly would buy a remastered version of this
This was the best NFS for me. I remember I was racing against Ai, and a player (cop) started the pursuit. Smashed every car except mine and then just left, letting me win the race. In a way, it was wholesome
Man I use to stay up all night just playing this game eye bruning an all an still trying to play this game is a childhood memories no other game beats this game 👌
I've refinished it recently and it's a blast. Drifting perfectly controlled like in a trackmania race is fun, improving your car is clearly noticeable in game, the police and drivers are just aggressive enough, the music is quite appropriate and the map is sublime. What pissed me off though, is the fact that you lose absolutely EVERYTHING if you get caught. And sometimes you get caught for stupid things, like a jump that goes nowhere or the police apparently playing mario kart behind you with their chase techs. And even when you think you're out of trouble: "resumption of the pursuit". Again and again no matter how fast you go when there is NOBODY for miles around. I also hated the fact of not being able to start events while being chased when going from point A to point B, you obviously get intercepted for "speed excess". Police choppers are also a problem because it's impossible to win a gold medal in any interceptor event with a high level of heat when you can't outrun the chopper for a while. This means that to set the best times, it is necessary to reset your heat level at each event. We must also mention the framerate blocked at 30 even on PC, the somewhat mediocre forced anti-aliasing for such a beautiful game where every detail on the horizon counts with the fastest cars in the least welcoming climates. Oh and then EA obviously hasn't made any update concerning the OverWatch rewards which are inaccessible today it seems to me, and moreover does not hesitate to sell only the complete edition whereas this one ruins the progression by giving the best cars from the start of the game. But that seems to be an NFS specialty, completely crappy "deluxe" editions. Anyway, that doesn't stop me from loving the game.
Bought the collectors edition and simply ignored the cars I got with it, that's more players choice on that one. Although will say the movie Mustang is literally OP when maxed out. I still use it to troll the guys ripping around in venom's and agera's nothing chaps a old players ass more than a Mustang GT with jammers and ESF 😂
2:16 perfectly describes Rivals. One moment you're just accelerating and the next moment, you're the victim of a Mad Rival. P.S. Love the Carbon Soundtrack at 2:50
I used to watch only blackpanthaa and parroted his oppinions like Gospel, seeing you take slight jabs at him in your nfs videos is very funny to me. Thanks for the awesome content
This game is what Need For Speed is all about. Fast and beautiful cars racing and being chased down by cops with a map designed to push the vehicles to their limits. Putting your speed points on the line only adds to the intensity and makes the game so fun to this day. We need another game like this especially with how racing games have been turning out lately.
This is probably the second or third NFS Game (I kinda count Undercover's story to be dark) to have a dark story, the first NFS game being Carbon Own The City on the PSP literally featuring someone getting murdered, hired killers, domestic violence, an accomplice in murder, and the conspiracy to commit murder in it's story
I loved this game. My late grandma got me it for ps3 and I played through the entire racer side. Then after her death I found it on pc and played through it all again.
I played this game back on my ps3 when I was younger and let me tell you the story gave 12 year old me goosebumps. I bet if I played it now I’d chuckle at some of the lines but oh my. That was the only game I ever had to sit down and prepare myself for it was genuinely challenging
In my opinion Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals are the best modern NFS games to this day, classic feeling in Hot Pursuit 2010 amd the deep and complicated storyline in Rivals are the things that made these 2 games perfect
thank you for making this video. i have always felt that rivals never got the popularity it was supposed to, this game was my first ever video game and i spent most of my childhood playing it. i dont know about the online part, but the graphics, the sense of speed, the engine sounds of this game were better than any other racing game ive ever played. the storyline is the most badass story ive ever come across. all in all, this game was amazing and i totally loved it
I just played this again a few days ago. It was the first racing game I bought for my PS4 back when it had first came out. I loved it back then and I still do
Need for speed rivals and hot pursuit 2010 were amazing! Great cars to choose from; amazing car sounds and so on. Im completely fine with brake to drift because in hot pursuit 2010 and rivals the maps were suited for brake to drift. But in most wanted 2012 it wasnt unfortunately. Rivals and hot pursuit remastered are really worth buying. As im writing this rivals costs 4.99€ with all dlcs and hot pursuit remastered is 7.49€ on steam. Fun games overall!
The last race was so frustrating I cried😂. You had to race around the whole map with cops on your rear bumper and you could easily get wrecked by traffic. 9/10 would recommend ❤️
I loved Rivals, it was my second ever Need For Speed after playing Most Wanted when I was younger. The soundtrack was incredible ( Bastille-Pompei was the best). The races were great (not to easy, not to hard, I did struggle with some though). I loved the cars (I hadn't really cared about customisation as must as I do now) and grinding to get them was really cool. The progression never felt particularly bad to me. Overall it's prolly my favorite Need for Speed (Second to Most Wanted), even though I only played as a racer.
People can't shit on Rivals' soundtrack. That's one of the best soundtracks I ever listened to because Rivals introduced people to EDM in 2013 where the EDM era rose to fame.
Back in time, the fact that the game contained Ferraris, already made it a selling point for me. Had tons of fun but the game felt depressing and had a lack of humans characters, pedestrians, NPCs (i was just to spoiled by GTA).
This video is so good and well editing, the thing I want to talk about is the story. The story is decent but the ending got me confused and curious if EA are releasing a sequel of rivals.
I love this game, Platinumed it twice on two different accounts. Its like the Dark Souls of NFS franchise because of the police lol. But the map was great, somewhat similar to HP2010, great car selection as well as OST. Lets not forget they had like 7-8 months to complete this game which is why it has minimal story but at the same time, proof that you don't need a cringe story to care about the gameplay.
I haven't had the internet half my childhood, but I had the XBOX 360, and this was the game I played constantly. It's true that even offline, there was no pausing the game. But man, I loved driving different cars and going on hours long pursuit because the driving in this game was soo damn good. It was soo good that I kept playing it consistently every weekend for 8 years till I got my PC...
Nice to see someone else who enjoyed this game. I like how you showed Blackpanthaa when you said the game is underrated 😂. Unfortunately I played this game on the PS3 and the hardware could barely keep up. The game would run at 10fps when there's a ton of cops and you've got punctured tires. The game would even freeze itself because it couldn't load the map fast enough (which messed up time trials and Rapid Response events)
True though, it suffered terrible on ps3 since its a underpowered console and I really don't know I played it back in 2020 but I had to buy this game again on ps4 since there is Complete Edition of all Dlcs and it performed very well , no fps drops , just pure smooth gameplay
This was my favorite arcade racing game because of how well you could control the cars. Every corner felt so smooth and it was easy to dodge traffic. The concept of being either racer or cop needs to happen to the next nfs game
It still blows my mind that they made a port of this game for a console with 256 MB OF VRAM. The fact this game has an Xbox 360 version is wild and I love it. NEED to get my hands on that one
Never played this one, but I think it's on gamepass. Your detailed description gave us a clear idea of what to expect in the game and it's safe to say gonna have to give this one a go! It looks and sounds great, and looks fun. And damn, the background music's in this video sure hits different these days.
probably my favourite nfs game. Payback was cool and all but the raw conflict between cops and racer made this game stand out so much. Probably have a hundred hours in this game and i don't regret it a single bit.
Nice video! I actually enjoyed rivals. It was fun and I actually have been playing it again. I think you play as F-8 for the whole cop store though because his voice is the same as your character through all the cutscenes.
The thing about rivals is its fans. Much of the nfs fan base don't like change, and they're stuck in the underground 2 and most wanted 05 era. I enjoyed almost every nfs that can be played on pc or console. Even undercover, even though it's considered the worst game, I still enjoyed it.
The police in the game are many times just insane. They are more difficult than both NFS games, worse than GTA. But on the other end when I am the cop, my teammates do such a piss poor job assisting. They literally crash into every vehicle and block the road more for you than the racers. I did wish there was more customization. But I still really like it. It has a crazy sense of speed, it looks gorgeous and I love the control.
I won't lie, it's my first and only NFS game and I love it. Spent many hours on it. Came back to it recently and really enjoyed it, but got the Rivals+ mod and my god it makes the game even more fun just by making it even harder.
What I want to know is why, in the conversation about Ghost NFS games, is Rivals almost never mentioned? When people think "Ghost NFS" people always think of 2015, Payback, and Heat but almost never Rivals. Why do people just leave that out? Kinda the same way people only think of Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon when talking about the Black Box games, 90% of the time leaving out Hot Pursuit 2 aka the first NFS made by Black Box.
I did the last mission with the Cayman. I thought I was going to get creamed in the first try. Thankfully, I survived. This is one of my favorite games, playing this as a teenager, gave me inspiration and paved a way for me falling in love with the Aventador.
Considering Rivals uses the same engine as Battlefield 4, which came out the same year, then yes.

Chaotic, destructive, loud, high-speed, no holds barred, no mercy, gladiator match of a racing game.

Review County (which is much more inspired by Northern California than Seacrest is) is actually fun to drive and traverse. Customization is what's needed for a game like Rivals and HP 2010 and done well. I do think the stories could've been written better cause there's ideas I see that they're going for and I liked.

the cops and racers balancing is the WORST in this game, but looking past the inane difficulty when being a racer, this game is really good. your health felt a little too sensitive though, any small collision would damage your car and over time thats going to slowly chip away at your health.
@@MrRadicalMoves i agree with this as a racer aslong as you keep moving and know how to use stuff like turbos/jam/shwav its not hard to get away
I kinda liked the health thing it teaches you to be less careless and improved my driving in the game over all
Honestly I prefer the balancing in this game.
Exactly. Some people are soo stupid like bro check the settings before you talk shit.
At least NFS UNBOUND has a little service lag compared to Rivals.
Rivals will always have a soft spot in my heart, it was the first need for speed I ever played.

Also, the voice lines may be cheesy, but I sure as hell love 'em. Beats whatever the hell we've been getting recently.

My biggest issue really was the cop/racer exclusive cars since I really wanted to race in the LFA, along with lower tier cars being irrelevant in endgame. I wish once you finished the story you'd unlock an upgrade that lets low tier car gets on par with the highest tier cars.

I'm very happy with the phenominal placement of elder scrolls music 💀💋👽👺
Rivals is one of the NFS games that i think needs a proper remaster.
Couldn't agree more!
The Grand Tour is one of my favorite NFS moments. The length of the race always had me sweating bullets.
No doubt. It has 40kms in length.

I think that Rivals is everything I want NFS to be. Even if it’s not the best it could be.
Nowadays it’s always about “more cars, more customization” even at the cost of the game.
It’s why I think I’ve never jived with 2015 and up (I did quite enjoy payback)
I’m just trying to understand why we can’t get more games like Rivals.

@@prodigy84bg i mean i did lots of MP in rivals and had no issues despite these things
The thing with how aggressive the cops are, is that it really makes you choose whether to be a glass cannon or a mix of speed and strength. There’s a reason you might choose an F12 Berlinetta over a Hennessy venom GT for the final race
Venom GT is police side, though. Do you mean the final interceptor?
He meant there's a reason why you had to pick a Ferrari F12 over a Lamborghini Aventador for the final race , The Grand Tour
The final cop mission is Zero Hour , where you have to bust a racer with a heat lvl 10 to unlock the Hennessey Venom GT
What I don't really like about rivals is that I need a miracle to even escape the lowest heat level (since the helicopter never leaves you) and hope that I can hold my pee longer than the pursuit + travel to safehouse safely because pausing is not a thing in this game.
the main issues I had with this game is just 2:
1-The cars felt super-lightweight meaning that grabbing 10cm's of air would completely delete your grip and control and would propel you on the nearest wall and the camera going down at the end of high jumps makes you blind for a few seconds making you exteremly vulnerable for thr infamous traffic to crash you out (at least you can quickly switch camera right before landing to negate this effect)
2-Racer's health was really sensitive and this was really stupid and then to "fix" this they put repair stations almost everywhere and made their cooldown 10 seconds.
This is actually the highest rated Ghost nfs game

I loved the cars (I hadn't really cared about customisation as must as I do now) and grinding to get them was really cool. The progression never felt particularly bad to me. Overall it's prolly my favorite Need for Speed (Second to Most Wanted), even though I only played as a racer.
I’ve read reviews that said that this game feels like a high stakes remake.
Rivals definitely has my favorite OST, and led me to Brick + Mortar. I'm glad this was one of my earliest racing games entirely.
Couldn't agree more!
It had the return of Hyper from Most Wanted 2005, and Gary Numan. Also it had the debut of the EDM DJ's in the game.
Need For Speed: Police Brutality
People can't shit on Rivals' soundtrack. That's one of the best soundtracks I ever listened to because Rivals introduced people to EDM in 2013 where the EDM era rose to fame.
Back in time, the fact that the game contained Ferraris, already made it a selling point for me. Had tons of fun but the game felt depressing and had a lack of humans characters, pedestrians, NPCs (i was just to spoiled by GTA).
I appreciate what Rivals was trying to do, but there were a lot of minor issues that just made it a very annoying to play sometimes
I remember, me and my friend would call after school, and play this game 24/7!
Very challenging and frustrating, but nailing the final race is soo rewarding. Actually really like it, although I rank Hot Pursuit 2010 higher.
The funny thing is Blackpanthaa's the leader of #Craigitup movement is probably the one who's turning Need for Speed in today's condition
huh? my game ran fine on the ps3
Ran at 30 for me. And I still play it online on ps3 from time to time 😂
It ran fine to me. The thing it was pretty bugged
True though, it suffered terrible on ps3 since its a underpowered console and I really don't know I played it back in 2020 but I had to buy this game again on ps4 since there is Complete Edition of all Dlcs and it performed very well , no fps drops , just pure smooth gameplay
I need another game like rivals, this game as a concept was the peak of racing imo
finally
someone talked about this underrated masterpiece
This was my favorite arcade racing game because of how well you could control the cars. Every corner felt so smooth and it was easy to dodge traffic. The concept of being either racer or cop needs to happen to the next nfs game
It still blows my mind that they made a port of this game for a console with 256 MB OF VRAM. The fact this game has an Xbox 360 version is wild and I love it. NEED to get my hands on that one
Agreed. Liked. Subscribed. Don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
The most aggressive racing game ever played.
The adrenaline rush that rivals gave me…no other nfs game game me that feeling.
game game
Never played this one, but I think it's on gamepass. Your detailed description gave us a clear idea of what to expect in the game and it's safe to say gonna have to give this one a go! It looks and sounds great, and looks fun. And damn, the background music's in this video sure hits different these days.
U played it yet
I really need to play Rivals again, that V10 from the LFA 😘
probably my favourite nfs game. Payback was cool and all but the raw conflict between cops and racer made this game stand out so much. Probably have a hundred hours in this game and i don't regret it a single bit.
Rivals is also easily my favourite NFS game by Ghost, but it's worth pointing out that Criterion provided assistance and it shows.
Nice video! I actually enjoyed rivals. It was fun and I actually have been playing it again. I think you play as F-8 for the whole cop store though because his voice is the same as your character through all the cutscenes.
Oh nice!
you just earned yourself a sub and inspired me to get the gem again. Keep up the awesome work, man
Awesome! Thank you!
Fucking finally somebody breaks out of the hivemind and actually sees how awesome this game was.
mw2012 hp2010 nfs prostreet nfs rivals ❤
I won't lie, it's my first and only NFS game and I love it. Spent many hours on it. Came back to it recently and really enjoyed it, but got the Rivals+ mod and my god it makes the game even more fun just by making it even harder.
Both NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 and NFS Rivals are on my Top 3 list:)
Did anybody notice the peculiar license plate in the gameplay footage 😳
DLC was also a really big factor here, there was a lot of content, the best being the free Koenigsegg One:1
This is the NFS I always go back to. They lost it after this masterpiece.
What I want to know is why, in the conversation about Ghost NFS games, is Rivals almost never mentioned?
When people think "Ghost NFS" people always think of 2015, Payback, and Heat but almost never Rivals. Why do people just leave that out?
Kinda the same way people only think of Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon when talking about the Black Box games, 90% of the time leaving out Hot Pursuit 2 aka the first NFS made by Black Box.
for Hot Pursuit 2, it's reasonable since they only did the PS2 version, while EA Seattle (the guys behind the OG NFS games) did the other versions.
I did the last mission with the Cayman. I thought I was going to get creamed in the first try. Thankfully, I survived.
This is one of my favorite games, playing this as a teenager, gave me inspiration and paved a way for me falling in love with the Aventador.
Noo you forgot to mention the cool OverWatch this game had to offer, and the QR codes on some cop cars!
What did the QR Codes in Rivals do again? I completely forgot.
@@ralphlorenzperolino3054 It led you to the NFS website back then (I think it still does now) for NFS news and the OverWatch.
The thing about this game that annoyed me was that I couldn’t just drive around without having cops pursue me.
