    The issue I have with the visual / graphics is the "Map". It is too bland and the fog of war makes everything just look like a sketch that takes away from the rest of the visuals. They should have stuck with the classic fog of war, just smoke.

      Yep, the map compared to civ 5 is a downgrade, its a bland, washed out mess with less detail. And my problem is districts are disjointed when built next to eachother. Like aren't they supposed to the be extension of the city? Endless Legend did it better.

    Maybe my eyes are just getting bad, but I have a hell of a time locating hills on the map, especially when there is forest/rainforest.

    "Many people dislike the art and graphic direction that his has taken over the previous games"
    You don't see what was wrong with the art and graphic direction that CIV6 uses.
    "Yes it is bit cartoony and bright and colorul"
    You kinda answered your own question, no to mention not only leader looks but also units, advisors and general feel of the game is cartoony. Religious victory is about throwing lightning bolts at each other :/
    Plus lack of diplomatic victory and stupid agenda system.

    The alliance turn limit is supposed to reflect changing alliances over the course of history. Relationships between nations waver and change over centuries. In terms of gameplay, it also stops you from being locked into a permanent alliance. During the game you may wish to switch to another ally, however to stop you switching every turn and making alliances meaningless, it locks you into a temporary time period.

    Ai settles right next to where I'm waging war vs another civ, far far away from their own homeland. Next turn I get warnings to remove my troops (basically half my invasion force) from "their" borders.
    three turns further in there were no more troops at their border for the lack of border.

      Go back and play Civ3 if you can, it's cheap on steam. It was the first in the series to create actual borders. Before there wasn't borders on the map.

      me too, i just think it is stupid that there are not unique backrounds, a big part of civ 5 (which i previously played to 6) was finding babylon and seeing him on a threatening throne... or seeing the ottomans in a big beautiful palace, it gave them way more of a personality then i thought.

    I have got this game as well. I am veteran that started with original CIV1 and played most of the series. So let's say my points:
    - graphic style is cool and I like it.
    - the way to decentralize cities is also good, really fresh breath into whole game type
    - AI is absolutely stupid to nowadays standards. Even for the standards few games earlier
    - TURN TIMES are absolutely unacceptable long, while the game is not capable to use more resources of my computer, that is available
    - loading screens for long minutes . WHY.
    As I played hours and hours of this type of games, my focus "what I want to play" really shifted to technical reasons. I loved CIV4 modpack Caveman2Cosmos, but the game went so slow so fast, even on new computers that had enough resources. It is NOT FUN to look at screen for 5 minutes every turn, waiting for AIs to move. I had high hopes for CIV6 to be good at this aspect, but it is not the case. Turn times are so long, maps so small, AI is stupid. And I mean really stupid.
    It is so hard to go play this game again, when I have there Galactic Civilizations III icon just right beside it on my desktop. It is huge difference. Theme same, but GalCiv3 has those things I desire - brutally good AI that even on normal will crush you if you are not prepared. Diplomacy that actually makes sense. Turn times are instant, while the maps are absolutely big. You can play against 50 AIs if you are brave enough and still have enough map space for big empire. The game will happily use all the CPU and RAM that you will offer to it (on big maps it can take some 6GB of RAM with ease), but it really uses them in a way that the game is sooooo smooth whole time. Compared to Civ6 that barely uses 1,5GB of RAM, while there is 8 more sitting unused, and game is slow.
    So....I will stick with GalCiv3, as it is way better player experience. But I am little sad about that, I expected way more from new game that Civ6 is. Or is it? Sometimes one has the feeling it is just reskinned old engine that is useless nowadays.

    • @izuka_
      @izuka_ 6 років тому

      This always bothered me so much. For starters, the time you have to wait to start a game. I get the map is being randomized and whatnot, but how can it take this long? It takes like 5 minutes for bigger maps. And later on, it takes minutes for the AI to take turns. I used to think this kind of AI was too resource consuming until I played Europa Universalis 4 and Hearts of Iron. Those games have hundreds of countries with thousands of units, each one moving and making decisions in real time. I can justify having lag late game because my pc isn't good enough. Invested too much on GPU thinking processing power wasn't that important.

    • @antoinehanako3193
      @antoinehanako3193 6 років тому

      Well, you know. If you have invested into more computer power, you need also invest into new modern games, that are strictly multi-core, 64bit with new engines. GalCiv3 shows that so much. Started a new game yesterday (with new update that made things even nastier) and the only thing that slowed me down were my actions. It is so hard to go back to not well written games :D

    • @cecarter10
      @cecarter10 6 років тому

      If you've really played since Civ1, then you should know just as well as I that no 2 civ games are alike they're all different and they don't show their true potential until the end of the expansions.

    • @antoinehanako3193
      @antoinehanako3193 6 років тому

      That's true. However those additional mods/expansions will build on top of the base game, so the gameplay-wise they will flourish, but I am reaaaaaaally sceptical that they would rewrite whole game to be more technologically perspective. So it will be better gameplay, but those technical limitations will only probably grow.
      I loved Caveman2Cosmos modpack for CIV4 and I would love to see nowadays counterpart , but as I see it, it would be same slow, thus unplayable after a while.

    Good to see another video! And a rant, too! I haven't played this one, but I love Civ V, and people complaining about the art are right. It looks fuckin goofy, and it shouldn't. (I think) you liked AC2, so let me compare it: imagine AC2 was mixed with loony toons. How distracting and stupid would that look? Especially for a more serious game, like assassinating people, or grand strategy where you're trying to either outmaneuver other empires or destroy them by the sword.
    its bad, and it didn't need to be. That doesn't make or break the game, but its distracting and awful, in something thats a visual medium.

    • @talltroll7092
      @talltroll7092 6 років тому

      You are the reason we can't have nice things. You play Paradox games, and Civ 5, but the choice of art direction is what gripes you about Civ 6? *sigh*

    • @Hank..
      @Hank.. 6 років тому

      I'm sorry I consider the entirety of the visuals is something worth noting in a visual medium

    • @talltroll7092
      @talltroll7092 6 років тому

      Yes, you should be, especially for referring to video games as a "visual medium". Whilst there is indeed a visual element, it would be exactly the same game with ASCII graphics and a text based interface.
      If you don't like the art style, that's your opinion, and I do respect that, but it doesn't change the game in any way. Undertale had "bad" graphics, and was great. Battlefront and Battlefront 2 have amazing graphics, but are just OK games, at best

  • @nitebird67

    I have Civ 6 but can't play it due to my computer but have played Civ 1 - 5. With the Civ franchise you have to plan to build a powerful military to dissuade other Civ's from attacking you otherwise they will. It's not if they will attack but when.

    The district was a good idea however it doesn't work in game. everything requires so much production and everything research super fast. To built a library you need to built a district and then a library double production costs. not to mention district increase over time when you go through the era.
    So you could get verry fast in the tech tree and end up having trouble building things.

    Similar to Rome taking people over for not having the correct culture. They believe the people deserve a better leader, a strong leader. This has actually happened before in human history. Though, not with Cleopatra. She was someone that attempted to gain power through the Roman Emperor Julius Ceasar. She didn't really have the opportunity to use the power she obtained for the short time she lived with Ceasars child. Her and Ceasar died very quickly after the Cleopatra incident.

    i would personally recommend giving civ 5 ago as well while the new features of civ 6 are nice it has problems mostly the ai being way too much of a push over compared to civ 5 as well as there idiotic diplomacy 5s wasent great but was better also war is alot more balanced in civ 5 and with brave new world and gods and kings civ 5 is still my fav game ever to come out on pc hence why i may have put 1500 hours into it lol. though civ 6 is fun and dose look pretty also 1 last thing is the ui is alot harder to read in civ 6 compared to 5 which is my problem with the art style as it looks fantastic and i love just taking screenshots of my civ but it may have tryed too mcuh to blend the ui into the graphics this time around for my liking. still a good game though.

Also, the Byzantium run is hard at the beginning but it's easy after the first 50 years, if you survive. I have the Basileus achievement and am working in the mare nostrum one

    The reasoning for the art style was they wanted to remove as many menus and stuff as possible and allow to see everything that's built and going on by just looking at the map. That was the main reasoning behind why they instituted districts. The main focus of this part of the series was the map, everything is because of the map. The removal of the many menus and streamlining them by putting everything visible on the map and changing the F.O.W. and turning it into a drawn art.

    6:46 - I've only ever played CIV V and it's good too know that since release of that game nothing was improved when it comes to diplomacy - meaning; it's useless! When you are sharing continent with other civ, then war is unavoidable, no matter what you do! Just like you said; "How relationship deteriorated so quickly, I didn't do anything!" Actually, it's far worse than that; you can be friends with neighboring civ; you can open borders, you can have research agreement, you can have declaration of friendship - doesn't matter; sooner or later your neighbor is going to attack you, just because you are there! It's all scripted BS! And once war is declared you have to finish off your oponent and don't even bother with signing peace treaty; it's useless! After awhile your neighbor is going to declare war again, so having peace treaty with him just give him time to regroup and rebuild his forces. At best you can conquer all his cities, aside from one city - then and only then enemy will be harmless

    Civ 5 had a better sense for scale. Cities actually looked like they coud house millions of habitants, and yes graphics are not important, but artistic design is, which in this case is a downgrade to what the previous games were. Hell I even prefer Civ IV to VI. Also I'd avoid giving my opinion on something when I know that I'm not well informed on the matter. Also you sound awfully pretentious...
