- Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, LTE Edition on Sprint. The Tab S has a supremely colorful and rich 2560 x 1600 Super AMOLED display and it’s thin and light at 1.03 lbs. and 0.26” (6.6mm). We look at the US LTE version that uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core clocked at 2.3GHz with Adreno 330 graphics rather than the Exynos CPU used in the WiFi-only model. The tablet has 3 gigs of RAM, 16 gigs of storage, a microSD card slot, dual bad WiFi, Bluetooth, a GPS and a fingerprint scanner. It has a 2.1MP front camera and a rear 8MP camera that’s quite good by tablet standards. The Tab S 10.5 LTE model sells for $549 on Sprint and $629 on AT&T in the US.
Hi Lisa, I have a question is the note 10.1 from late 2012 still a decent option? my budget doesn't allow for these modern Samsung tablets.
Nick Ackerman U can get all of them
Great tablet for basically everything. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxLNmVocUk8tnSkwWIlYSNFzWRIaFTBuzS I bought it specifically for art, and that 4k screen is really fantastic for it! Also has LOUD audio, even tho the speakers aren't in necessarily prime locations it really projects! You do need to get a case for this bad boy IMMEDIATLY though as it doesn't come with one.Battery life is really good! Standby time us FANTASTIC. This guy can go about a week on standby and be just fine. The screen is massive so the longer you have the screen on, brightness especially, it will effect battery life. I am very happy with it though! One thing that I didn't consider is that since the screen resolution is so high, viewing ticktocks/ reading webtoons can be slightly blurry. There is no way to turn down resolution either, so it just be like that.Would still judge this bad boi at 10/10 for my first tablet. I've had it 3 months now and its not shown any evidence of "slowing down" or anything. Love it!
You were a huge help when my grandma decided to get me a tablet THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
nice of your grandma!
Hi Lisa I am about to buy the LTE model do you know if it can handle 4K videos playback? Thank you in advance and I love your reviews they are unbiased and in depth.
You rock Lisa! Just ordered one of these thanks to your reviews on the latest tablets. First tablet ever, can't wait till it gets here!
I´m new to your channel and I really like the way you are doing your reviews. Very informative but not boring. Greetings from Germany.
Hey Lisa,
Thanks for your great review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. I have since purchased this tablet and am over the moon with its performance. Cheers :-)
Thanks for your review, Lisa! I love this tablet. I got it last November 2014 and the specs are awesome even better than the new Samsung tablets. :)
i never get disappointing with your videos Lisa.
Excellent review.
Oh nice.. You showed Marvel Unlimited. That's one of the main uses I want this tablet for. I think the 16:10 portrait aspect is actually more similar to an actual comic book than a 4:3 tablet in portrait. Great review as always :)
Overall what is better this or the Note 10.1 2014 model? I can imagine the display is better on the S but the Note has the Spen. Any other big differences to put one above the other?
Hi Lisa.can you please tell me whether there is a calling function in tab s or is it only for 3G
For some reason, I am watching it in 2024
Great review!
I just picked this up at an estate sale for $40. While I'm sadden that it doesn't have Amazon music it does have Apple play which my wife uses and likes.
I just wanted something to play with my vintage stereo system with the headphone jack plugged into the auxiliary of the stereo. This fits the bill.
Lisa, another great review. $549 is with Sprint's two year contract. Actual price without contract is $649. That's $20 dollars more expensive than iPad Air 2 16GB and $150 dollars more expensive than the Wifi model. I really prefer the Snapdragon 800 than the Exynos processor and the LTE but it is quite a lot more expensive than the WiFi version as of now. Not sure if it is worth it to go with the LTE version since I can possibly tether to my phone as well?
Its seriously quite impressive when you discuss the new phones, phablets etc.. How can you know all of this...? You like the tech or what..? Beleive me you are young..
I returned Tab S2 on next day coz Tab S has flash light which is good gor camera, bigger display, speakers on both sides, better battery, nice looking and much more than Tab S2.
Hi Lisa. Thanks for the great review!
Good review! I have the Galaxy tab S 10.5
Nice video but i been hearing so many raves about a few China brand smartphones (DOOGEE, ONEPLUS, THL etc) that seem to have really good specs n very much affordable, not to mention the new NEXUS 6 and NEXUS 9 soon to be released with the new android lollipop, what is your take on those, any updates to share?
Great review. .but I may just Wait for your nexus 9 review before I decide which tablet too purchase. That display is fantastic! !!!
I like how she always coordinates her outfit with the color of the review device.
Will the Samsung Galaxy Tab S price drop during the holiday season, or after the holiday season on top of Samsung releasing a 2015 Edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
I bought this over the Air 2, mainly because of the widescreen. For the price of a 64GB LTE iPad Air 2, I got a 16GB LTE Tab S 10.5, the Logitech case/keyboard and a 64GB microSD card and still came out $15 ahead.
My 10.5 tablet fell and it will not charge when I plugs it in. I took it to a store and they said the inside of the tablet was broken is there any way I can get it fix.
Could this Tablet read external memory drives like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.01 2014 Edition?
The OS takes up almost half the RAM, is there sufficient RAM left, for high intensity use?
They Lisa. i'm an artist, and mostly working on android (because all my apps are there). I know the tabS does not feature SPen, but could it be compatible with a bluetooth pen that features pressure sensitivity? Have you tried anything in that regard?
How would you compare it to the Note 10.1 (2014 edition).
Is it really an improvment other the later ?
Is it viewable in the sunlight?
Im really looking into picking this up now that the new s2 is coming out. I'm hoping the price will drop and the specs are still really good a year later
Is this tablet is 3 GB ram?
Yes
how did it compare to its Exynos counterpart?
I would totally get this tablet if it were like the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro's size (12.2) and had a built in stylus. I hope Samsung releases a tablet like this before I buy the Note Pro (12.2). Do you think Samsung is going to release or make a tablet like it?
Just wondering, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 but it periodically complains about low storage capacity (within the 16Gb internal storage), I have a 32Gb ext card inserted and I can tell apps to use the ext card storage which helps reduce the internal storage. However, if I use the apps that I have told to 'use ext card' for storage a short while later I get the same 'low storage' warning and it seems that the tablet has pulled everything I had previously asked it to 'move to Ext storage' back to the internal storage. Is this a Samsung quirk or an Android thing? Given this 'problem' and Samsung's want to push apps at you, am considering changing to one of the new Lenovo android tablets (either the Yoga or the iBook) as they are the only tablets, it seems, here in the UK that go higher that 16Gb internal storage, indeed up to 64Gb! Any info/ comments you can make on this issue would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks for providing great informative and 'real world' reviews.
Ewan Sinclair what is the price now in 2017
lisa where should i buy it from, (in NZ)
Please does the tab use SIM card and does it do WhatsApp?
Thanks for your reviews, hands down best on net
They are giving the free gifts in the UK and also a £50 Google Play voucher as well as a 32GB memory card. I suspect they are struggling with the iPad air 2 taking all the demand. I have one and I must say it is the direct competitor to the iPad Air 2 rather than the Note tablets and it really is down to personal taste. You need to spend some time with the Tab S to get rid of the bloat ware and it's lag. After that I can honestly say that I would be happy with either the iPad or the Tab S. I recommend putting the Google Now launcher on the Tab and stopping Touch Wizz Home. Also add Battery Doctor or the equivalent to stop the device running through the night. It initially lost 25% of its battery when I woke it in the morning. Now its about 7%, still not as good as an iPad but a lot better. Also manually control the screen brightness as that saves battery. One real grope is that the three buttons are badly placed when you hold in landscape mode and I continually accidentally press them. I may look at the Nexus 9 for that reason alone. Also in the UK you get 6 months of The Economist free which is worth £50 as well as the Marvel Comics deal. Not perfect but excellent value at the moment so I would recommend as the current best Android Tablet.
So I have a issue lol I just bought a galaxy tab 4 10.1 and when I first got it the keyboard was floating and now it's not. Can u help me to try to get it back to floating I liked it lol. Thanks
why does my tab s 10.5 from sprint say 1.9 ghz and exynos processor?
Only sprint and Verizon come with the snapdragon 800, all other LTE models come with 5420.
Does anybody know if Samsung discontinued the use of a SIM card for the galaxy tab s dued to the SideSync feature that's on the galaxy s5.
i just bought this the last day and i cant wait to root and flash custom rom for this
I wonder if I should buy this tablet or go with the tab S2 which is 500 bucks. Skeptical on buying something a year old but love the aspect ratio of 16:9 since I binge watch Netflix. Ughhh....decisions. Anyone has a recommendation?
Get the older one.
+Rumi Syed yeah get the old one as it the Tab S runs better than the Tab S2. Plus the aspect ratio 16:9 is better. As far as base specs are concerned, they are about the same.
Does anyone know if this can accept a external dvd drive, for watching movies
can use a stylus on this device, and what type.
I just picked this up and returned the tab s2 because of the aspect ratio. This one will be great for gaming as well as a better aspect ratio on Netflix than the s2. Also this one has more to offer than the s2 including a better battery
hi lisa great video
The wifi 16GB version was going for $300 on slickdeals
Any guess as to when the next Note 10" tablet will be released?
My guess is around December or January like last year's tab pro models
BTW, the bottom edge has the built-in microphone pinhole.
can you do a review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A?
Would Android l reduced or eliminate lag and studdering on Android devices?
No. The problem is not with Android but the skin or touchwiz layer that Samsung uses. Heck you can probably go back to ICS or Jellybean with these specs and it would run butter smooth on stock Android. No matter how good Google makes Android you can be sure touchwiz will screw it up. You want butter smooth you have to go with a Nexus product or somehow root this device and install a more pure version of Android. "Open OS" is not always a good thing. It's good for application development but the OS itself should not be altered. Google needs to put the brakes on this practice.
So after years of complaints about touchwiz Samsung is still trying with it? Why?. I've heard it has improved somewhat on the note 4 so do you think this mean there's hope for it yet?
Rico g Touch wiz adds another layer. Without it you run default code. With it, you have to load more code which is mostly redundant. Running pure android will always be faster. Its why iOS can run better on half the specs.. literally. Samsung bloats the hell out of Android. I don't see the benefit on running two apps at the same time on a 10 inch screen. Just give me a device that is fluid and butter smooth. If I want to work, i'll use my book 9. Galaxy line is too gimmicky. So many useless features. Pure Android will always provide the best user experience. I just got my moto X this week so I know this is true. I'm all for openness for app development but lets keep the OS clean please.
So in other words if Samsung removed touchwiz it would be an untouchable powerhouse as it still manages a decent benchmark score with all the bloatware. I would not call all the features useless. I use the remote , picture editor and smart stay. I'm sorry My devices does not have smart scroll as I might have actually found this feature useful. I can't count the number of times I was manually scrolling through a page and click on a link by mistake. With smartscroll I won't have to touch the page though I do find air gesture useless .with this said Samsung is a very stubborn company by refusing to remove touchwiz even if it means losing customers for keeping it. I know of blu smart phones that work more fluently than Samsung because they run on stock Android. What I think is Samsung does not want to be just another phone running on Android but an Android phone with a difference which is understandable .so after spending so much time and money on touchwiz will find it hard to just throw it aside.
Rico g So many crummy apps that Samsung loads that can't be uninstalled. Like I said, I used to think like yourself believing that those features brought added value. My moto X phone is so simple. No branding and just the minimal stock google apps loaded. IMO, only the Moto x actually brought added value with the active listening chips that they build into the device. Without touching the device you can make phone calls, set alarms, see notifications. This is not gimmicky crap like Samsung does. This is highly useable features that actually make your life easier. Samsung can still use the remote and run raw Android. Basically, you are running a skin on top of Android. Its redundant and less efficient then just running the regular Google code. IMO, the dual screen multitasking is overkill for a tablet and mutilates the OS. One only has to use a Nexus product or Moto X to see the difference. Only Motorola has brought true innovation to the table with their active listening chips and software. At one point they were talking about a Moto tablet. Not sure what will happen with Lenovo taking over.
And I bought Tab S 10.5 from Amazon and enjoing it.
+Dilik Yarchik How do you like this tablet? i have this coming on thursday

+Dry Bonez Realy good tablet. My wife using it every day and my doghter playing games on it. We love it so much.
AWESOME!! do you regret buying it? what doont you like about it?
+Dry Bonez no we not,coz everything work great. It is thin, light and good on battery. Good quality of video and nice sound. Can't complain.
T-Mobile version still comes with exynos processor sadly :/
You should do a comparison of iPad Air 2 with some Android tablet ;)
can u pls review nexus 9 pls , ty for a great review
We'll review the Nexus 9. Also the Nexus 6 :)
MobileTechReview that's weird I got a tab s 10.5 from tmobile and it's an exynos veriant
4?
I have a old galaxy tab 10.1 tab 2 and I used to think the touch wiz brought more features to Android. Until I bought a moto X phone with lower specs and a leaner naked android OS. That phone flys. I liked what Motorola did with that by dropping to 720P and using a raw Android OS to achieve excellent performance and battery life.
Now this Galaxy tab S IMO would do better with a 1080P screen, a more stock Android OS. The only reason Ipads are so popular is they optimize the hardware to iOS. Samsung needs to start doing this. Their touchwiz layer is getting old. No matter how fast a processor they use it still stutters. The sad fact is these devices already are overkill on processing power. 3 gigs of ram does not seem to help matters. With a raw Android OS Samsung could use a slower CPU and get better performance and all day battery life. What we have here is a device that takes a perfectly good OS and screw it up with a bunch of lame manufacture code. Google needs to put a stop to this. I know the whole idea of Android being open and all. But lets face it. All the stuff that carriers put on these devices aren't adding any value to the end user. Just buy a unlocked Moto x from Amazon and you will see the power of Android with no branding or any bloat of any kind. Motorola needs to make a moto tablet IMO.
THe lighting in this video clip could be a little more natural perhaps?
Stuttering (like this) in every new Samsung devices amazes me. Why so many people would do that to themselfes?
Because who gives a fuck about a little stutter. The average consumer doesn't and I as a tech geek could not care less for the occasional stutter. Do you have OCD or something? Also a little stutter is nothing compared to what you are gaining by having this device.
Marios5556 I disagree, there shouldn't be any stuttering on device at this price/quality (hi ipad, nexus). After using galaxy S3 for over a year I'm looking to give up this shit right away for any nexus device.
Ultrasoniicc Oh so you are willing to give up on all the features that this excellent device brings ( Amoled screen, thinness, performance etc) just because it stutters a bit?
The iPad air has nothing on this tablet.
Marios5556 Here's (polish) review, i think it shows much better how big of a joke it is: c9Uf7r36stA (paste in youtube search bar).
Had you ever S3 in hand? Would you also say it stutters A BIT? That's the point. Don't get me wrong, im not a hater. Samsung devices are fine, but software is absolutely awful.
I'm with you on this one!! If I'm spending this amount of money on a tablet it better be stutter free.
Does anybody know whether or not the WWE Network works on this tablet? This app is iffy on some devices. It's available on the Play Store. With some tablets it will download, but will not actually play videos from the app.
Does anybody with this tablet use the WWE Network successfully? WWE isn't much help when it comes to answering my questions lol.
With ease.
A few weeks ago this was very cheap on amazon like $400
PLEASE DO A VIDEO OVER HP PAVILION X360
Awesome video and I love the tablet. Really nice. But Sprint sucks!!

Wow, weird. UA-cam did something odd when processing.
Lol
new iMac 5k retina review? ;D
I can't quite fit the lovely 5K iMac into the "mobile" category that we cover. Though we do occasionally push it with the nominally portable Dell XPS 18 and soon the Lenovo Horizon 2.
SPASIBO VERY MATCH
Is Wacom pronounced Whack'em like Lisa says it? I always thought it was Way-com.
Edit: It's pronounced "Wah-Kum" according to this:
www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php/157072-Pronouncing-WACOM-properly
Ipad air 2 decimates this - still, if you're into over exposed rubbish, this will appeal.
Okey. I dont remember asking for a review.
Samsung

Sucks to still be seeing that stuttering on such fast hardware...Samsung sucks at making a smooth OS, for not only their mobile devices, but also their Smart TVs. Would never buy a Samsung device without root access being readily available to remove all the f'n bloatware.
Gotta admire a woman that plays Madden woo hoo.

WHY DO PEOPLE STILL DO THIS!?! Do you not realise how ridiculous you appear to be?
