Rewatching this I realized... Shyamalan completely ruined the twist of Aang's saviour being Zuko, showing him buying the mask before invading. For a person so obsessed with plot twists, you would think he at least got that right.

I think the problem is that none of the actors had the phyaical fitness or training to do a martial arts movie which is what Avatar is. It's hilarious to me how they changed the race of the Air Nomads and Water Tribes from Tibetan and Inuit to Caucasian (by our reckoning) both to secure acting roles for the kids of producers and to not piss off China by having a Tibetan protagonist. Though it still doesn't explain why the Fire Nation were turned from Japanese to Indian
Not sure why, but I kinda wanna see a spin off of a young prodigy fire bender who excels at it and lives as a traveller/nomad unaware of the world event around him, who eventually learns plasma bending. He wouldn't be part of the fire nation because of the constant travels. He would be a good person overall, but not very likeable. Cocky and arrogant, but skillful enough to back it up. Always wanting/willing to fight to test out his skills. He would help out those in need, then ask a price for it. He'd probably make money either by entertaining people with his much better than average fire manipulation skills, (simultaneously annoying every other street performer there) or by doing random odd jobs, advertising himself as the best fire bender around (which land him in trouble a few times) and guaranteeing results if enough money is offered, regardless of what the job is. "Of course I'm good, I'm a prodigy you know?"

I remember watchuing this movie in the cinema when it came out. I went there with a friend who also watched the animation, and we were both so hyped for it. Back then I was 15, my friend 14, so we both didn't really understand how awkward the dialogue was, but even we knew it was garbage because they changed ther story too much. I still remember how confused I was, because you see all these elements from the show you liked (the ships, the locations, the characters), but it was somehow different because it was just bad. It reminded us of that one episode in the last book where the gang visited a theater that told the story of the Avatar, but they got some things wrong. It felt like that, but worse.
Apparently, "bender" is Brit slang for "gay", and that was apparently a slight concern for Dev Patel at the time. So, by that logic, the Avatar is a master of the four gay elements: Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. Must've been a real laugh riot for the Brits as well.
I'm surprised that's what came to mind first over the American slang for bender, which isn't very flattering either. That or wondering if the audience was just going to think of Bender from Futurama.
The amount of times they had a problem with something in the movie and it was like "Fuckifiknow, it wasn't like that in the show." Broke me, and it was only made worse every time they asked "was it like that in the show?"
Now I've rewatched this movie with these two. I'm raring to watch Netflix's TV version next when it's finished and already airing lol. Can't wait to see how they would probably butcher it though here's to hoping they will not.
I just hope this doesn't paint a bad image of the animated show in their minds because the difference of the animated series versus the movie is like heaven and earth, sun and moon, and every sharp contrasts you can think of.

Now I've rewatched this movie with these two. I'm raring to watch Netflix's TV version next when it's finished and already airing lol. Can't wait to see how they would probably butcher it though here's to hoping they will not.

I like how UA-cam is recommending me Avatar the blue people movie. Not even UA-cam wants to acknowledge this travesty of a movie.
I just hope this doesn't paint a bad image of the animated show in their minds because the difference of the animated series versus the movie is like heaven and earth, sun and moon, and every sharp contrasts you can think of.
And the show also has the best character ever: Toph
