In your mind, in your corner of the world you can live any way you want. Decades and eras and periods of time are just a chronological restraint. You can for the most part block out the parts of the world you don't like. Just be kind and help others and do your best in all you do and you can live a pleasant life. And the beauty is that you have music and books and movies and art in all forms to surround yourself with

@@libragirl4471to a extent. There is an abundance of ugliness, anger and violence out there now that one has no control over. When you step outside these days it is a whole different world than the safe one we had in the 70’s. You didn’t have to worry about guns at concerts, or getting shot if you accidentally cut someone off in your car. Really, just being in any crowd setting now is a risk.

+Paul Arneson Prayers for your ongoing healing. You will always miss her, but hopefully the deep pain will eventually subside and be replaced with only joy. I sang "Evergreen" at the wedding of one of my best friends and then, at her funeral. It's funny how songs tell our stories...

This song made me tear up, but reading the comments made me sob like a child. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's deeply touched by this song. My dad used to sing this and Sweet Baby James to me each night, and James Taylor will always hold a special place in my heart because of that. What is all this melancholy about... its about us parents instilling values and raising our kids with confidence and a positive outlook on life. I can only smile when my little ones sing to this video, a song from another era...and still even my three year old sings to it full of passion.
Don't let others tell you what is important and what you should worry about. Share with your kids the things that you know and love. Like this BEAUTIFUL love song.

I am a woman so i can see the love and admiration she had for James. I'm sure it was very difficult for James to have this addiction and feel he was letting her down, no one really knows the hurt that went on and yes its sad that they couldn't stay friendly especially for the children, he broke her heart without meaning to and she can't get over it and he can't look at her with the guilt and that is the bottom line. They are amazing she and him both are very strong people she has lived losing the love of her life and he has healed from his addiction coping with his guilt and loving a new life. I love them both for their love and their music i always cry when i hear James thou for some reason. He played in Hartford Ct UP ON THE ROOF AT THE RUSSIAN LADY and he played that song there i wish i was there that night. He was neighbors with the owner at Martha's Vineyard and his neighbor owned the Russian Lady in Htfd. I will never forget i missed going there that night he was not announced and no one knew it was a surprise visit up on the roof .

Annual listen to this. My mama was a huge James Taylor fan. We played this at her funeral. She died 7 years ago and I miss her every day. X

this song has so much sentimental value to me. im in my thirties now but my father was diagnosed with mesothelioma (how ever its spelled its a type of fast spreading lung cancer caused by asbestos) when he was 26 and i was 5. He used to sit on my bed each night and sing this to me and play his guitar. i didn't know it at the time, but he was actually saying goodbye to me. i listen to the lyrics now and understand what they meant to him. "u can sing this song when im gone" he died @ age 29. :'(

I am looking for a song to dance my "Mom & Son" dance at his wedding this month - this is perfect. I am a huge James Taylor fan, and so is my son. A good old favorite.

Well the sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising.
So this old world must still be spinning round and I still love you.
So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.
It won't be long before another day, we gonna have a good time.
And no one's gonna take that time away. You can stay as long as you like.
So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.

So sweet to know that the songs we sing to our "babes" still effect them all those years later... I do the same for my own daughters.... Thanks for sharing...

What a waste! I have had a couple of bad times but I can't help but cry when I hear this song. They were so good good together. What's up w/our life? Why do we seek others and not understand what is in front of us? They were so good in Mockingbird! All knew they were so much in love! I wish I had had just a piece of this in my life.

There really is something about Carly's singing that is so special. Much as I've loved listening to other versions of this song, there's a quality that complements and yet also counterpoints his singing. This is the version I'd like to say the final farewell with.

I don’t like hearing the recordings of this song by James and other women he married after Carly. He spoiled it for me when he did that. I always thought it was a special song for him with Carly. The things he has said when her refers to Carly , which is rarely, make me think he never really loved her. I guess he couldn’t when he was addicted, though. An addict only lives his drug of choice. It’s a shame she didn’t get a chance to be with him after he kicked his addiction. It seems unfair to her.

"I've seen the needle and the damage done, a little part of it in everyone." Every person has imperfections and addictions. Few people have the talent of James Taylor.

Now James won't talk to Carly because he asked her to stop talking about their marriage. He didn't mention her in his book. She tried to get him off drugs all through their marriage and when it finally ends his new girlfriend gets him off drugs and he has been clean ever since. Very sad.

81780joe I have older siblings so I grew up with their music. I'm only 42. Born in 1972. But grew up with them and it is terribly sad about the heroin. No girlfriend or wife ever "cures" an addict. For whatever reason, he was able to get clean with the new woman. Not Simon's fault.

I've read many comments about this video. Many talking about what happened AFTER it. What's the point? To me, this video catched one of the most gorgeous, perfect moments of art and pure live of the human kind. If 'The Force' actually exists, it was there, indeed. And anyone that listen and watches the video immediately gets better, somehow. Since a friend discovered it to me, I can't stop looking and listening. By the way: love is not forever; but this video IS love: 1+1>>>>>>>2.

I feel the same nostalgia, the melancholy feeling that the chance of being loved has slipped away, with no one to blame but yourself. Then again, I think for most people life is too short to find love and let it sink in long enough to do any good. At least we can enjoy the pleasure and pain of the song.
