      In your mind, in your corner of the world you can live any way you want. Decades and eras and periods of time are just a chronological restraint. You can for the most part block out the parts of the world you don't like. Just be kind and help others and do your best in all you do and you can live a pleasant life. And the beauty is that you have music and books and movies and art in all forms to surround yourself with

      @@libragirl4471to a extent. There is an abundance of ugliness, anger and violence out there now that one has no control over. When you step outside these days it is a whole different world than the safe one we had in the 70’s. You didn’t have to worry about guns at concerts, or getting shot if you accidentally cut someone off in your car. Really, just being in any crowd setting now is a risk.

    This song made me tear up, but reading the comments made me sob like a child. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's deeply touched by this song. My dad used to sing this and Sweet Baby James to me each night, and James Taylor will always hold a special place in my heart because of that. The comments remind me to cherish the time I have left with him. Thank you for opening up your heart a little and letting a stranger see in.

When my time comes, however, "You Can Close Your Eyes" will be played at my funeral. I am a woman so i can see the love and admiration she had for James. I'm sure it was very difficult for James to have this addiction and feel he was letting her down, no one really knows the hurt that went on and yes its sad that they couldn't stay friendly especially for the children, he broke her heart without meaning to and she can't get over it and he can't look at her with the guilt and that is the bottom line. They are amazing she and him both are very strong people she has lived losing the love of her life and he has healed from his addiction coping with his guilt and loving a new life. I love them both for their love and their music i always cry when i hear James thou for some reason. He played in Hartford Ct UP ON THE ROOF AT THE RUSSIAN LADY and he played that song there i wish i was there that night. He was neighbors with the owner at Martha's Vineyard and his neighbor owned the Russian Lady in Htfd. I will never forget i missed going there that night he was not announced and no one knew it was a surprise visit up on the roof .

      I don’t like hearing the recordings of this song by James and other women he married after Carly. He spoiled it for me when he did that. I always thought it was a special song for him with Carly. The things he has said when her refers to Carly , which is rarely, make me think he never really loved her. I guess he couldn’t when he was addicted, though. An addict only lives his drug of choice. It’s a shame she didn’t get a chance to be with him after he kicked his addiction.It seems unfair to her.

      Wow...I'm so sorry for your loss. What a gift you gave him though--the fact that you sang this song to him (even changing the words a little bit to fit you two) says an awful lot about your relationship. May he rest in peace and I hope that the fact that he's not suffering gives you peace, as well. You'll meet again--and what a wonderful day that will be, huh? :)

    What a waste! I have had a couple of bad times but I can't help but cry when I hear this song. They were so good good together. What's up w/our life? Why do we seek others and not understand what is in front of us? They were so good in Mockingbird! All knew they were so much in love! I wish I had had just a piece of this in my life.

    Well the sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising.
    So this old world must still be spinning round and I still love you.
    So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
    I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
    But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.
    It won't be long before another day, we gonna have a good time.
    And no one's gonna take that time away. You can stay as long as you like.
    So close your eyes, you can close your eyes, it's all right.
    I don't know no love songs and I can't sing the blues anymore.
    But I can sing this song and you can sing this song when I'm gone.

    I've read many comments about this video. Many talking about what happened AFTER it. What's the point? To me, this video catched one of the most gorgeous, perfect moments of art and pure live of the human kind. If 'The Force' actually exists, it was there, indeed. And anyone that listen and watches the video immediately gets better, somehow. Since a friend discovered it to me, I can't stop looking and listening. By the way: love is not forever; but this video IS love: 1+1>>>>>>>2.

It has always been a favorite of the the many wonderful James Taylor songs. Thinking goods thoughts for you as you remember your mama.

    The beauty that it is possible for two souls in harmony to achieve together is poured out in music as displayed by the love James & Carly have happening here on Martha's Vineyard in 1977. You Can Close Your Eyes is one of the most pleasing songs ever written to play on acoustic guitar. This music video is my favorite of James and Carly together. May the harmony of your spirits be rejoined in heaven when you two are asked to reprise this song.

    Wrong chord at 0:15 to 0:16. Played an A bass note over what was supposed to be a D chord. He let it ring for the duration (chord is only 1 beat anyway) then repeats the A bass for the next A chord. You can barely notice because he's so awesome. What a beautiful song. One of my fave JT songs...

    • @gbwooden
      @gbwooden 9 років тому

      +Mark Mancini it is perfectably acceptable to use inverted chords in a song. Placing the A in the bass position of a D chord is not that unusual. (My music theory professor and I did not agree on this point.)

    • @gbwooden

      +Mark Mancini I see it now. He makes a quick finger change. I guess the trick is in not letting on---and being James Taylor.

    • @Tanstaaflable
      @Tanstaaflable 7 років тому

      Wow, you must be an amazing musician to be able to point that out. Pointing out an insignificant, debatable error in an otherwise genius live performance has let us know that you do 'real' music and have real training. Not like James Taylor who has written a score of legendary songs and changed American music history. It should have been you.

    • @heavnnnsent
      @heavnnnsent 6 років тому

      @@Tanstaaflable #### I don't know Mark Mancini but I heard a wrong note too after listening to this song over and over, it kind of screwed up the harmony for a second no big deal nobody's perfect. I have no musical education but even I heard it. There's nothing to get all riled up about. Mark was not being an asshole he loves the song and was probably pretty shocked to hear a wrong note as I was! Our reaction to the song is what the "comment" area is all about. Nobody meant to say anything negative about James Taylor, we were just surprised to hear a wrong note, that's all. Please know that Mark Mancini is entitled to his comment without being treated with sarcasm and negativity by internet trolls!!! You got to admit that you went a bit too fart!!!! Next time we want less sarcasm and more love from you. Capiche?
