  • Each year, millions of people around the world become infected with a tiny worm that can cause massive swelling in their arms and legs. Hailey Johnson, a postbaccalaureate research fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institutes of Health, is trying to figure out a way to kill these parasites by targeting the symbiotic bacteria that live inside them. With the help of her research, we may one day have more effective ways to protect people from this disfiguring disease.
