    This is by far the best video ever. I’ve been trying to add more external rotation with the right shoulder on downswing. When I look at my swing, I’m like why is my lead hip bumping forward so much?!? I guess sometimes the body has a hard time isolating one body part from the rest. If you just think right shoulder closer to right hip, then you add more tilt without even knowing it. But this right shoulder lower right hip higher, this a game changer. Awesome vid man

      @@CogornoGolf FYI - I found this video because I was looking to increase my shoulder angle at impact. If you search for "shoulder tilt", you'll find a lot of videos about the WHAT. But, I found only one about the "HOW", and that one proposed pushing the hips toward the target. You might consider adding something about shoulder angle or tilt to this title go get more views. Thanks again!

    Agree with other commenters, this is a master class in side *bend* versus side *tilt*. Mixing the two concepts up is, trust me, a recipe for disaster. I found that in the backswing, I was *tilting* left but actually bending *right* (I’m a rightie). Probably goes without saying you can’t do the move Eric teaches here from that position!
    When I got things straightened out and started to actually *bend* left in the backswing, the opposite - right side-bend - followed naturally in the downswing.

    A real eye opening video for me regarding RSB and how to do it properly for more efficiency and effectiveness (Address coming closer together of right hip to rightshoulder from both ends/perspectives to be differentuated from a tilt that is a no no)) . RSB is a macro move follwing the transition to pre impact where the shaft is parallel to the ground. It is a key move preceding spine extension coming into impact or the hit. I learn something new everyday, Thank you Eric. I also now watch Kelvin Mayahira thanks to your suggestion and find that the two of you together (lots of syncronization of knowledge here) helps me better understand the point of your videos and vice versa. Very helpful. Where were you guys with your inisghts fifteen or twenyty years ago?

    Great Eric. Exactly what I do! Left hip rises/slides on the downswing and changes arc and path (blocked shots). Easier for me to try to keep left hip down, left knee bent, than right hip up. More left side bend on backswing seems to help me, as well.

    I can't believe it's taken me this long to start to research this topic. I had no idea how significant side been really is! I'm sure I do it subconsciously on some level my swing is pretty solid but as far as teaching and sharing and explaining ideas this is amazing. So in your other video about the backswing killer you mentioned that in the backswing you're steepening and in the downswing your shallowing. So would you say the right side Bend is the real shallowing move? I have a friend that swings very over the top and he's been trying to fix it for years and him and I have tinkered with all kinds of stuff but nothing ever seems to get to the root of it. I think this might actually be it

      @CogornoGolf  Рік тому

      Thank you, Jacob!
      Yes, the trail side bend is a key part of shallowing the arms, hands, and club on the way down. We just want to make sure that we aren't doing it RIGHT AWAY to start down.
      More details here on that here!

      @@CogornoGolf Eric. I tried it out on the course as well and it works, straight drives and irons. Use a narrow stance. I tend to tense up in the arms and shoulders in the transition but working on it. With your method you will square the clubface without trying to make it happen Thanks again. Outstanding explanatory technique.

    Can you add a little more detail on the right hip going up in transition don’t understand how that works. Does right by here come off the ground like Justin Thomas?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 місяці тому

      Hey Jason!
      So the right hip DOESNT ACTUALLY.....GO......up....
      Thats just an exaggerated feel.
      In reality the feel is that it STAYS......up.
      In backswing the left leg flexes and the right leg extends.....that makes the right hip higher than the left in the backswing.
      Want to KEEP that hip tilt in early transition as you add RIGHT SIDE BEND (right hip closer to left)
      So its more about KEEPING the right hip up as the right shoulder goes down and remember thats not REAL......just a FEEL.
      hope that helps

    I think you may have actually helped me solve some old school swings as well. I was always wondering how people who didn't seem to turn much still got power. As an example I would take maybe pain Stewart or call him Montgomery or even Greg Norman in his prime. Did they do more tilt than turn? I'm just saying some people seem to turn a lot more than they tilt or vice versa and is that the difference I'm seeing when it swings more linear versus more rotational?

    • @CogornoGolf

      Hey Jacob!
      When measured on 3D, elite golfers will have pretty similar profiles of extension, side bending, and rotation...but yes, the exact amounts/rates will certainly be different amongst the games greatest players. Lots of variables at play...would be a fun one to dig into more! :)

    Hello Mr. Eric, thanks for the awesome lesson, is this something that will eventually happen without thinking about it?? I want to get more technical with my golf swing analysis to better nurse a nagging left hip pain and it seems more rotation will help to get rid of sway which puts way too much pressure on my left hip. Just want to make sure I'm going in the right direction with my drills... thanks so much...

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      Hey Les!
      Hard to answer that....
      There is no guarantee it happens automatically, no. But it could.
      You only ever should be thinking about/focusing on what YOU need (not everyone needs to focus on more right side bend)...
      Ideally work with a good coach to help identify the biggest priorities

    Whatever forward bend which was lost on the back swing needs to be regained on the downswing along with right side bend. Correct? If so, then should the forward bend be regained simultaneously as the right side bend occurs or should they both occur consequently with forward bend regained followed by right side bend into impact?

    a) shouldn’t tell people to let their right leg work toward the golf ball. Takes up space that the arms want to use.
    b) even when you’re “exaggerating” the feel, you don’t have nearly enough side bend in your downswing. Your right shoulder is fairly high at impact (compare left shoulder at top of BS w right shoulder at impact) which is why you have to throw it and your exit is so high.

    I notice that in order to raise your right hip you lift your right heel off the ground. This side bend happens during the backswing, correct? So please advise how you raise your right heel during the backswing? My left heel is more likely to come up during the backswing. Do I need to learn how to levitate? I am confused.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 роки тому

      Hey Pat!
      1. You side bend to the left in the backswing. To the right in the downswing.
      2. You do not raise your right heel during the backswing. You do a bit during the downswing.
