I see comment after comment about the number of preamp tubes. Why do people comment it about something that's already commented so many times? Who cares? So anyway that's my comment on all the comments. By the way this was a nice video. Thank you very much
I really don't like the way it sounds through the small on board speaker. The amp also has a hum when I play it back through the speaker that is not there in the direct out. I called Vox and sent an email about this problem and no one ever got back with me. I took the amp apart to try and change the tubes thinking that maybe the hum was come from a bad tube. However I couldn't figure out how to remove the tubes without breaking something. The design is pure S$*T. I'm not even using it at all anymore - using tube preamp pedals instead. I'm sorry I wasted my money on the Chinese piece of junk. I don't think Vox will be selling many of these and will probably be discontinued before too long. Just like all those digital modeling amps - at first they sound good and after awhile all the warts and weaknesses show up. ~ Gretchtim1, commenter on the Gretch Talk Forum, dated December 1, 2017 And he was right, Vox discontinued this amp after fielding too many customer complaints.
With respect Don, this amp has just ONE 12AX7 per the specs on the Vox site. The video description above is wrong and so is the Sweetwater site product description. Even the Vox site is confusing with the photos they've posted for the AV15 - two of the photos there are of the AV60 showing TWO 12AX7's and a speaker out on the back panel. I can hear a distinct difference between the AV15 and the 30 and 60 when throwing the two power amp stage switches in the lower right. It's much more obvious in the 30 and 60 because of the 2nd 12AX7.
I think there might be only one tube in the av15. Apparently they SPLIT use the one tube. half pre-amp and half power-amp. ???????? am I wrong????? Also, is it hard to change valve? It looks all sealed up.
It's very hard to assess these amps from a YT video. So many factors in the way. The guitar being used, the mic, the codecs, the edit and nasty way YT mangles video quality.
If it's noisy it's because you are using a RF shielded frequency cable which bounces sound waves from the environment into the amp causing static and I also have no idea what I'm talking about
I started out with a squier starter pack and will change my amp would this be a good amp for a beginner, I do nit expect to play gigs so i dont need a very loud amp
FloodExterminator-yes, this amp would be an excellent choice for a beginner, as long as you're good with all of the switching options. Some people prefer a simple, plug-n-play amp, this is more of a tone-tweaker's amp. Thanks! Don Carr
Is this a better sounding - better amp - than say the Valvetronix series ..I have the VT20x. In other words - is this amp - the AV 15- more like a tube amp? vs the Valvetronix? Should I just wait and get myself the more expensive Tube amp? Thanks-
I find that I use it a lot for practicing say more than the blackstar. I like it. I want to eventually get a Fender blues jr for my first tube amp. The voicings on the Valtrex are good to my ears. Plenty loud. Easy to use.
But it looks and sounds interesting. ..I like Vox and Marshall but my dream for tube is the blues or Princeton. I am very much a beginner. More experienced as a listener and lover of the instrument and players that I enjoy.
Hi, Tim. Since the preamp section on this is all tube, it still takes pedals very well. Between pedals and all the sounds it comes with, it makes for a very versatile setup. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
It is sad that word "modelling amp" has become synonymous with bunch of bells and whistles bullshit sounding l6 Spider type amps... thsi is a great great demo, as always by Mr Carr... great piece of gear this is
Even the magic of Don Carr and his 513 wasn't enough to make that amp sound good. Don usually makes everything he touches sound awesome, so I could only imagine how horrible this amp must sound with an average player and guitar. No thanks.
+offinthepines Give me a break Captain Negative. Again, you're tossing out all of this negativity without any quantifiable data to back it up. Please reiterate in detail what you find objectionable?
Blackbrooke How can anyone possibly determine the quality of an amplifier's sound based on a You Tube video? Realistically, I've experienced large variations between actual amplifier and guitar sonics in the studio and live play verses what is presented on You Tube-Google.
Nice sounds. Wish they tried this kinda amp with cheaper guitars though. That prs is near 4k
I know they usually play a $2000 dollar guitar thru a 200 dollar amp. Plug in a squire not a prs.
I'm really enjoying these Sweetwater video reviews. High quality stuff, thank you!
Great review showing all the cool applications available with this amp.

I have av 15. Mine always noise. Do you plug noise gate before plug in to this amp ?

Crunch 1 sounds surprinsingly close to a Wattkins Westminster amp!
Haha thats a pretty obscure animal! The model on the amp is an AC15 so it shouldn't be miles away!

Thanks! Don Carr
Yes this would be amazing tones for a begginer!
I guess it could have done with a little more depth in the bottom, but that's not so easy to do with an amp of this physical stature.
would this amp be any good for a nice jazz tone?
Yes
No it's hard to get a jazzy Jeff tone out of this because he was a disc jockey, this is a guitar amp
I wish I had his hair. Maybe if i practice more my hair will grow back?
Does the amp really sound like a cheap fuzzbox? Or is this from the recording.
DEFINETLY recording
It's wonderful how your cheap guitar is sublimated by this amp.
Anyway I think I'll get the same one (I mean the Vox, AV15 or 30).

Blues Jr or Princeton by Fender, that is...small 15 watt...
Good demo, any possibility of a head 100 or 50 watt version???
+Damon Stewart there's a 60w 1 by 12 combo version for ~ 450 €
when youre more interested on the guitar than the amp that is getting reviewed
I have this same amp and it has one tube, I think he said that it has two.
good job!
Has anyone out there know if it takes pedals well.,..av15

@@sweetwater I have been A long time Sweetwater customer thank you for your response to my question and I'll be ordering one in the near future.!!🎸⚡️🤘
1:10 i feel so analog.
It sounds good to me but for an attenuator
It has 3 effects, Delay, Reverb and Modulation, it's hardly a modelling amp

+offinthepines hybrid amp can't do distortion well .Its not a new thing .vox, fender every one failed to make one good

The clue was "on this upload"
