- Get ready for some Guilty Pleasures. Everyone loves watching a bad movie now and then. Like being unable to tear your eyes away from a car wreck, there’s something fascinating about watching a film go up in flames. A terrible tv show, on the other hand, is a different situation entirely. That requires you to commit every single week to watching something awful, which is kind of like circling around the block to drive past that car wreck again and again and again. So while bad movies live on in the cultural zeitgeist, terrible tv shows are often immediately forgotten. Which is where your friends at Doyouremember come in. I’m Nostalgic Nick, and today we’re takin’ a drive down memory lane to fondly remember the hot messes that were some of the most terrible tv shows of the 1970s. Even The Brady Bunch Hour? 🤮
You can't possibly be including the "Brady Bunch...". That gave "cringe" a bad name. I kept thinking "what to the authorities have on these people to make them do this?"
Man, I have not turned on a TV (save special events) in almost 5 years. With all of the channels, broadcasters and selections, be it cable or streaming…”There's still nuthin’ on TV…” Frankly, I could barely get through this and I grew up in the '70s, so, e seriously cringe-worthy offerings 🤢

that set was used a lot actually! I saw a 'Don't Smoke' short which was filmed on it as a kid.
I am glad that I am not the only one that thought that. I saw this and was like, other than carpet, they looked like they were poaching the Brady Bunch house.

Oh yeah! It was cocaine as shown in the movie Blow. Makes you confident no matter how clueless you are. Shakedown Street by the Grateful Dead anyone? How about the Star Wars Xmas Special? There's way more drug addled decision making examples out there.
@@jimogrady1131 I went to Roger Waters Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking tour and it was like the door man knew my weed would be down my pants and in my underwear, like he had some psychic powers 🤔, but my friend went to a different line and that guy wasn't a psychic and he was able to get his pot into the concert.
In 1977, after seeing the very first Stars Wars movie for the first time, was a fantastic time and situation to have been a child! May the Force be with you.
I was 12. The perfect age for the perfect movie. Mom took me to a matinee one afternoon out of the blue. It was sold out, so we had to watch "The Black Hole" instead. When it was over, mom noticed the next showing of Star Wars was coming up, so she got tickets and we ended up seeing it anyways. At 56, I still remember that day vividly.
My only memory of Me and the Chimp was him crawling out on this ledge calling frantically BUTTONS, BUTTONS, BUTTONS. It's quite something when you manage to give a 7 year old a headache.
Never saw a single one and I don’t recall ever hearing about any of them.

You must not have been born yet; they were before your time probably; I remember these shows and had watched some, if not all, of these featured; the narrator was right about most of them being unwatchable and cheesy, if not crappy.

Greetings from Ireland. We actually liked Holmes and Yo Yo over here. I remember we tuned in every week. It was harmless fun for kids.

@@CDash162 HeeHaw was a fun show. It was like Laugh In, only they had Country music and funny country characters and jokes. The a look at a clip or two. It was a very popular show.
Eve Plumb had no regrets whatsoever not participating in The Brady Bunch variety hour, at least that's what she said in an interview I saw, and I can honestly say I don't blame her 😂😂

I was in a punk band called Fake Jan. We broke up after one rehearsal.
I hated every Brady Bunch show.
A great gag they could have done was pretend they didn't notice the switch of actresses for Jan but then say something like, "Wow Jan, you look great. Did you do something to your hair?"
Good list, but you probably should’ve included The San Pedro Beach Bums. That show was so bad it hurt my feelings.
An appearance by the girls from Charlie's Angels could not save this show.
And Spencer’s Pilots.

you mean the Robin's Nest remake which was a spinoff of Man about the House which was remade in America as 3s Company.

When I saw the title of this video, I figured it would be a big eye roll, expecting to see shows that I loved as a child. However, I don’t remember any of these listed. I guess I was too busy watching the good shows, instead of these flops.
I remember choosing to not watch Supertrain - the premise was just too ridiculous.

That was the problem; it was Love Boat on a train. There was another short-lived show called Flying High which was Love Boat on a plane. Maybe if they had the premise of a train traveling through a post-apocalyptic wasteland it would have been a hit. They could have called it Snowpiercer.

In real life, chimpanzees and other primates are not meant to be pets because they are wild animals. As the world famous animal expert, Jack Hanna once said "Never keep a primate as a pet!"
C'mon! it was the 70's and the chimp REALLY loved the coke.
Chimpanzees are unpredictable and do not make good pets. I remember hearing of handlers having their faces, fingers and genitals torn off.😧😲😢😱
@@kenkemzura903 tell me about it. My brother was killed by a chimp when he inadvertently had blueberries in his front pockets. The chimp just beat him senseless trying to get the blueberries. To this day I can't look at blueberries without thinking of that day 🥺

Robert Reed loved his TV family, so I think his short-lived reunion with them was his motivation to debase himself.

Lucky you. My younger sister was a Donnie & Marie fan. So, the Brady Bunch thing was right up her alley. Over 40 years later, I still haven't forgiven her.
Funny thing, though: there was a goodnight" scene in the clip for "Me and the Chimp". One of its co-stars, Kami Cotler, would go on to play Elizabeth in "The Waltons", a show famous for its "goodnight" scenes that closed almost every episode.

I remember "Supertrain" provided ALOT of material for Johnny Carson's tonight show monologs.
So did Hello Larry.
Nobody at NBC like Fred Silverman and his horrible shows, which all tanked in the ratings.
They were using the Tonite Show to undermine Fred Silverman. He had a lot of enemies at NBC.
You'd think Super Train would've been a hit. Should've been Love Boat on a train. From what I've seen in clips, the writing appeared to be part of the problem.

@@johncbeer No, Teen Wolf was on MTV. The show I'm talking about was called Werewolf-It was about a College Kid who inherited a Werewolf Curse, and he had to go on the run, like the Fugitive, In order to escape from a Werewolf Hunter. It was a pretty cool show.
I can understand an unknown actor signing up for a meh, or terrible show after reading the script. It’s either like going on a job interview for a job you know you don’t want, just for the practice of interviewing; or just getting your name and face out there.
But, if you’re already a star, and/or had a part in an iconic show or movie, why??? How much money did they offer you? Were you that bored?
don't think I remember Supertrain, but at least heard of the others. The Brady variety show was the only one I watched more than once. But back then, there were tons of variety shows.
Everybody had a Variety Show(From Sonny & Cher to the Captain & Tennille) back then.

Wasn’t there a sequal of 3s company, called 3s a crowd? It built around Jack, his girlfriend and her father.
Yup, and it got horrible reviews but was not that bad if you actually watched it (which obviously most did not, lol). It didn't make this list because it started in the early 1980s.
The follow-up series to 'Bewitched' was pretty crime-against-humanity!!! & wasn't there an absolutely tragic TV adaptation of 'Westworld'???
I think CBS did a Pilot for Westworld.

Supertrain was the brainchild of Fred Silverman. He was a famous Network TV Executive who had previously worked for ABC, where he helped create a lot of Hit Shows like the Love Boat, Dynasty, Charlie's Angels, and Fantasy Island. Silverman was offered a lot of money to work at NBC, So he switched over to them. He wound up Producing flop after flop for the Network, With Shows like Cliffhangers, Pink Lady, and of course Supertrain. Hello Larry was also another Show that was his. This eventually infuriated the NBC Higher Ups, and it turned into a real hostile work environment for Fred Silverman. He was even made fun of in a Saturday Night Live Sketch where John Belushi portrayed him as a Meglomaniacal Lunatic with a Dictatorial Attitude. Shortly after that he quit.
Fred Silverman almost bankrupted the Network with what he spent Producing and Developing Supertrain. And he also hired Pink Lady(A Singing Dou that was Huge in Japan) to Star in their own Variety Show, Hoping their appeal and popularity would somehow transfer over to the States. Unfortunately, neither of the two singers spoke any English, So they had to learn their lines on the show phonetically. Needless to say, The Show Was A Complete Disaster, One Of The Worst In The History Of Television. Anyway, after a few years of this Fred Silverman resigned as the Head of NBC. He then went on to Produce Thicke Of The Night, A Talk Show Starring Allan Thicke(Later the Star of Growing Pains). He wanted to have a Hit Late Night Show and to get back at the Tonite Show(which always mocked him) by ruining their ratings. Thicke of the Night, however, turned out to be another Disaster, Barely watched by anyone when it played in First Run Syndication, and was soon gone from the Airwaves.
There were actually Two Sketches about Fred Silverman on Saturday Night Live. I remember the first one had Belushi(as Silverman) raving like a Madman, Shouting out Ludicrous Ideas for Different Television Shows, One Right After Another, And his Assistants frantically trying to keep up with him, Trying to Write Down all of his ideas. In the Second Sketch-Fred Silverman takes a Secret Meeting with Kate Jackson, And passes on Information about his Network. The Implication in this Skit was that Silverman was Secretly Still Working for ABC, And that he had been sent to NBC in order to Infiltrate and Destroy It From the Inside. Pretty Hilarious Stuff.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Hello Larry-One of the most infamous short lived Sitcoms from the Seventies. It starred Maclean Stevenson, who was lured away from CBS's highly successful MASH by NBC, In order to become the Star of his own Series. Unfortunately Hello Larry turned out to be one of the biggest ratings dud in Network History, and pretty much Derailed Stevenson's Career.
All I remember about Hello, Larry is that MacLean Stevenson played a Disc Jockey and his Daughter was played by Kim Richards.

@John Barber Remember when they Spun Off Fish into his own Show. Was that on for even two seasons?
@@lordgreystoke-6390 Todd Bridges started out as one of the adopted kids in Fish. This was a few years before he became a regular on Different Strokes.
You missed "The President's Daughter". Ran about 3-4 episodes. The plot line was the engaged daughter trying to be alone with her husband/boyfriend, yet always found by the Secret Service even if the young couple never knew it. Voyeurism, bad acting and a useless plot line killed it. Thankfully.
I think that's The President and J.J.! One show he certainly missed!
@@isaactaylor08 I got curious and started looking. The show you listed, per IMDB, was a little earlier with some big names. In the search, I uncovered "Nancy". 1970-71. That's the one I was trying to remember. Heck of a title, eh? Anyway, there's also a major Wiki page on the show. I recalled only one episode: the daughter marries her longtime fiance. Unknown to them, 12 Secret Service agents are in the same hotel while on their honeymoon. SMH. Thanks for the assist.
My 9 year old self loved Holmes and Yoyo, all I remember as a 53 year old adult is the opening bit where Yo-yo flips at the garage, it’s funny I always thought I made it up as you never see or hear about this show ever. Thank you for validating my memories LOL! Good job 👍

Some of it was funny. Like when the Robot took things literally. Like when his human partner would say -"Let's Split!", and the Robot would do a Split.

I remember most of these shows and they stunk just like you said.
I was 6 when Holmes and Yo-Yo was on. It was my favourite show, and I was heartbroken when they cancelled it. I would probably cringe at it today, though.

Man, I watched a lot of TV in the 70s but only vaguely remember that Brady Bunch show. That first one with the chimp reminds me of BJ and the Bear which I do remember watching. Looks like it was taped on the Brady Bunch set. Also, IIRC, Super Train was a spinoff of the movie The Big Bus. It also had a pool...and a bowling alley!
While I have heard of three of those, from what I can remember from back in the day, I have to admit that I have not seen any of them. It seems I have not missed anything

There was a TV show called "The Hathaways" from 1961 to 1962, starring Peggy Cass and Jack Weston. They had three chimps who got into those mad-cap "adventures." I was six at the time and loved the show.
It was a lot harder to have terrible shows in the 70s since it wasn't a lot of channels to put a show on. Now days it can be tons of crap because it's 100s of channels on tv plus all the different streaming sites

3:42 - The Brady Bunch Variety Hour" (created by the same team that gave us "HR Puffinstuff"!) was beautifully parodied on the Simpsons "Spin Off" episode... complete with a fake Lisa!
Sid & Marty Kroft also Produced the Donny & Marie Show.
And the Bay City Rollers Show.
Sigmund and the Sea Monsters was just as painful as watching any of the others from S&M (appropriate, lol) Krofft! Even as a little kid, I remember thinking: dang! this is low-budget.. but watched ANYWAY! lol🤦

@@unclegilbert-5865 According to Wikipedia "Songwriter/producer Shunichi Tokura named the duo "Pink Lady" after the cocktail." In fairness to them, they were super-cute, but they really had no business on US TV. The show was cancelled after only 6 weeks.

I loved Holmes and Yoyo.
They used the same premise of Holmes & Yoyo in several "Dramatic Series" over the years. These shows in which a human cop was partnered with a Robot includes Future Cop, Mann & Machine(both NBC), and Fox's Almost Human. None of them were successful.
It certainly had it's charm!

That show starred Jerry Van Dyke and almost ruined his career. He had been offered the role of Gilligan, on "Gilligan's Island" and chose "My Mother the Car" instead. He admitted that was a big mistake.

I turned 9 in 1970 thus I watched a lot of TV in that decade and the only show I even remember hearing of was "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour" though I never watched it. I did grow up with 'The Brady's' but those other shows looked awful! Love your videos, keep up the good work 👏

My two favorite chimps Were "Chatter" and "Lancelot Link, secret chimp".
I remember "Holmes and Yoyo" and "Brady Bunch Variety Hour." Strange that I don't specifically remember much about any of the episodes, except that they existed briefly. A rare exception is Yoyo's ability to read a large book in seconds, followed by a "Thanks, I enjoyed it.".
There was one show you may have forgotten or overlooked, or left out fpee some reason, titled " Turnabout. " I remember watching the first episode with my as a kid and we thought it was hysterical. After that, we tried a few more episodes but we all thought it took a nosedive after the funny premiere and stopped watching. I don't think it lasted much longer.
Also there was a goofy show called "Quark" but again I don't recall much except it was very goofy, and recall characters Betty and Betty, Gene and Jean, and Quark himself.
I remember the Brady Bunch Variety Hour with fake Jan, and also Three's a Crowd, which I thought was hysterical. This is the first time I have heard mention of Three's A Crowd since 1979.
Later, they tried to have everyone from The Brady Bunch in a drama, that didn't work. The Ropers were on Saturday, a bad night for any TV show.

And the worst of the worst from the 60s was the single episode of Turn On. The show was so bad, it was canceled before the ending of the first episode.
Holmes and Yoyo was the one that stood out for me. Dad loved it, and since he was in charge, I sat through it. It had some truly hilarious moments, but not enough to redeem it.
I was wonering why Three's A Crowd was on here, but this wasn't the John Ritter - Robert Mandan show.
Three's A Crowd came out in the 80s.

I watched all nine episodes of Supertrain, it was my favorite show and I was devastated when it was gone, I'm still not over it.
I liked Supertrain because I love trains. I had envy when a coworker of my Dad's showed me that he had an either an HO- or an N-scale model of the Supertrain. He picked it up and I recognized it right away.
I feel that way about “Firefly.” It should’ve gotten at least one full season!
3's A Crowd can still be found on GSN ... kind of funny when the wife learns things she didn't think to ask about ... Like the old married couple when wife found out that the Frank that went on the business trip was secretary Francis!
I thought 3's A Crowd was going to be about that horrible Three's Company spin-off!

I never heard of any of these shows. I was in college 71-75 and toured with bands 75-84. I never watched Saturday Night Live until I had a weekend off in Vegas. The band gathered in my apartment (mine, drummer and bass player) and got ready to watch it. We saw the opener and the power went out in the entire area. I still have never watched Saturday Night Live.
I'd like to see videos on such "great" shows as "Grady" and "The Sanford Arms" (both spin-offs of "Sanford and Son") and "Needle and Pins" (which starred Norman Fell and Deirdre Lenihan). Nice video here.

Brain is hurting. Not sure if these were in the 70's but here are duds. Ultra Talented Tim Conway in "Turn-on" . Didn't make it past episode 1. Another dud , "Radar" made it through Ep.1 . Conway's show wasn't seen in most markets. Brain still hurts.😵
I'm so glad I started working long hours when these came on in the 70s I couldn't make it through any of these shows without falling asleep it made sleep so much more enjoyable

I remember when I was watching a show in the 70's, I only saw one episode, and then they took it off the air!
I remember most of these dreadful programmes. Some of these were particularly dreadful, Brady Bunch Variety Hour, Supertrain. Holmes and Yoyo could have been better. The premise was good. 3s A Crowd was one of the most awful game show ever made.

Ever see "It's About Time" from 1966? Boy, what a disaster that was.
It's About Time was about a couple of Astronauts who got stuck in the Prehistoric Past. It wasn't really that bad, It might've been ahead of It's time.
Maybe It's About Time should've been a Drama instead of a Comedy? Sounds like they went with the wrong format.
@James Satterfield I remember they messed around with the format of It's About Time during it's one and only season. First it was about Astronauts trapped in the Past, Then It became a Show about a Caveman Family transported to Modern Times. They never could figure out how to make it work.

Oddly enough, Robert Reed, who always complained about the scripts on the original Brady Bunch series, LOVED doing the Brady Bunch variety hour

Yoyo from Holmes & Yoyo always reminded me of Hymie from Get Smart
The Producer of the show was Buck Henry, who was also responsible for Get Smart.
